My favorite.
There Is No Kill Like Overkill
Sometimes, the act of killing an opponent can be completely overdone. A prime example would be shooting an enemy until they're almost dead, then, to finish them off, completely blowing up their body and everything else in a five mile radius. All in all, it's waste of resources, tactics, and time....but it's always, always worth it. Always. Especially if the enemy is just hanging on up until the end. Actually, that's just cruel.

It would, for an Imperial-class Star Destroyer. A Super needs something grander. Thunderer was a British Battleship name that has shown up in Scifi more than once, always as the name of a large and powerful ship.

School system in Va. won't teach version of Anne Frank book
Culpeper County public school officials have decided to stop assigning a version of Anne Frank's diary, one of the most enduring symbols of the atrocities of the Nazi regime, after a parent complained that the book includes sexually explicit material and homosexual themes.
[...]
The ALA has documented only six challenges to "The Diary of Anne Frank" since it began monitoring formal written complaints to remove or restrict books in 1990. Most of the concerns were about sexually explicit material, Maycock said. One record dating to 1983 from an Alabama textbook committee said the book was "a real downer" and called for its rejection from schools.

Howdy, Hoops honey! How are you?
I think Salinger (esp Catcher in the rye) is one of those books you have to read at the right time in your life (childhood, basically). I was 13 or so and even then I wasn't all that impressed with holden caulfield. Never much liked 9 Stories either.
I can't understand the mindset of someone (who isn't a neo-Nazi, say) who wants to ban Anne Frank or thinks it's "too much of a downer". WTF?
"It's really a wonder that I haven't dropped all my ideals, because they seem so absurd and impossible to carry out. Yet I keep them, because in spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart. I simply can't build up my hopes on a foundation consisting of confusion, misery, and death. I see the world gradually being turned into a wilderness, I hear the ever approaching thunder, which will destroy us too, I can feel the sufferings of millions and yet if I look up into the heavens, I think that it will all come right, that this cruelty too will end, and that peace and tranquility will return again." Saturday, 15 July, 1944, pg. 237Quote 23: "[F]inally I twist my heart round again, so that the bad is on the outside and the good is on the inside, and keep on trying to find a way of becoming what I would so like to be, and what I could be, if... there weren't any other people living in the world." More sexting hysteria:
[Link: www.chicagotribune.com...]
Last week, two middle school students in Valparaiso, Ind., were caught sending nude pictures of themselves to each other on their cell phones. The students were caught when the 13-year-old girl's cell phone rang in class, and her teacher confiscated it, according to a police report. The girl cried that she would get in trouble because a 12-year-old boy sent her a "dirty picture."The boy sent the girl a picture of his genitals and requested that she do the same, the report said. The girl then texted him a picture of her naked, police said.
The students have been charged with child exploitation and possession of child pornography, both felonies. They were referred to the county's juvenile probation department, which will determine whether authorities pursue or drop the charges, Gensel said. If convicted, the students could be required to register as sex offenders, he said.

Australian censor board demands large-breasted pron-stars
"Australian Classification Board (ACB) is now banning depictions of small-breasted women in adult publications and films. They banned mainstream pornography from showing women with A-cup breasts, apparently on the grounds that they encourage paedophilia, and in spite of the fact this is a normal breast size for many adult women. Presumably small breasted women taking photographs of themselves will now be guilty of creating simulated child pornography, to say nothing of the message this sends to women with modestly sized chests or those who favour them...."

Oh, why not...
Work without Hope
by Samuel Taylor Coleridge
All Nature seems at work. Slugs leave their lair—
The bees are stirring—birds are on the wing—
And Winter slumbering in the open air,
Wears on his smiling face a dream of Spring!
And I the while, the sole unbusy thing,
Nor honey make, nor pair, nor build, nor sing.
Yet well I ken the banks where amaranths blow,
Have traced the fount whence streams of nectar flow.
Bloom, O ye amaranths! bloom for whom ye may,
For me ye bloom not! Glide, rich streams, away!
With lips unbrightened, wreathless brow, I stroll:
And would you learn the spells that drowse my soul?
Work without Hope draws nectar in a sieve,
And Hope without an object cannot live.

Most definitely.
At the same time, kids do use it to get into some serious trouble-- not to send each other pics of themselves, but to send and receive photos to and from adults, usually random freaks they meet online. Webcams are more of a problem in that regard.
Even so, that (real) threat is totally overblown. It's usually just cases of teenagers and preteens playing games and exploring sex, just like they've always done. Only now if they're unlucky (and it's usually the girls this happens to) they can wind up with their photos all over the school.
Teens are going to do this kind of thing. Instead of a puritanical freakout over it we should just acknowledge it.

My baby (adopted) brother's facebook page right now...
Whether you agree with his philosophies or not, no one can deny the extreme Intelligence that Obama brings to the table. He also has big brass ones.
I cannot think of a single person that would have gone to the oppositions stronghold in a televised Q and A session as he did last night. Those 140 congressmen were in their element, surrounded by their brothers and sisters, faced with being able to pick and choose their topics. Obama had no shot at coming out of this victorious... only he did. ... See MoreHe took on any and all questions, and for the most part did so with no deflecting or political hocus pocus. Hopefully he will come away with some amount of respect from the republicans in attendance, and actually be able to work with them. I believe that he will give if only they give some too.
At any rate, for really the first time in my life, I can say that I am Proud that I cast my Vote. I believe that is the best thing any American can ask of their President.

Because there is going to be one, trust me. This device isn’t as obvious as iPhone. It’s kind of subtle. Which means that those of you who have done the spiritual work to prepare for it will be fine, but those who haven’t done the work, well, they’re probably going to miss a lot of this at first. So you’ll see some noise about who needs this thing, it’s just a fancy desk ornament, and so on. I am telling you this now so that you can be ready for the harsh voices and they won’t hurt you when you hear them. Just let the negativity pass by you. Do not engage with it or try to fight it or argue with it. Step aside, and let the dark energy flow away.Peace, enlightened beings. This is what you and I were put on earth to achieve. And that is what this device ultimately is about. Yes, you can read on it, and watch movies. But those are functions. Features. Those aren’t its purpose. The purpose of a device is something different altogether. What this is about is bringing people together to form the universal One, the great synchronization of human vibration in a global mesh of energy, like the planet in Avatar. That is the real goal. We are all one person. One spirit. I am inside you, and you are inside me. (Not really.) But anyway, do not allow yourselves to forget the higher purpose of what we are doing.
Oh, and we are totally going to fuck the cable carriers. But that too is just a side issue.

That's priceless. Found this, linked on the site from the NY Times where it was apparently posted in all seriousness :
Why I Take Good Care of My Macintosh
By Gary SnyderBecause it broods under its hood like a perched falcon,
Because it jumps like a skittish horse and sometimes throws me,
Because it is poky when cold,
Because plastic is a sad, strong material that is charming to rodents,
Because it is flighty,
Because my mind flies into it through my fingers,
Because it leaps forward and backward, is an endless sniffer and searcher,
Because its keys click like hail on a boulder,
And it winks when it goes out,
And puts word-heaps in hoards for me, dozens of pockets of gold under boulders in streambeds, identical seedpods strong on a vine, or it stores bins of bolts;
And I lose them and find them,
Because whole worlds of writing can be boldly laid out and then highlighted and vanish in a flash at “delete,” so it teaches of impermanence and pain;
And because my computer and me are both brief in this world, both foolish, and we have earthly fates,
Because I have let it move in with me right inside the tent,
And it goes with me out every morning;
We fill up our baskets, get back home,
Feel rich, relax, I throw it a scrap and it hums.

That's actually a pretty serious issue. More and more people are moving away from their tv's and getting their content online. It's going to be interesting to see how cable companies try to keep up. I know comcast has added a ton of on-demand tv series to compete with sites like Hulu but it's not enough to keep people like me from just streaming Hulu through my xbox. Hulu has so many more options, on-demand isn't coming close to competing yet.

Oh yeah-- it's a huge issue.
There was an article in the NYT recently about a couple who have just completely dropped TV and get all their 'tv' content from online. I have to say that's been true of both Jimmah and myself for a couple of years, even before we knew each other. Books, music, TV, and movies-- it's so easy now to find them all online. I haven't paid for cable at all in like 6 years-- until recently i didn't pay for internet either, just pirated wireless.

Previously:
Matthews: "Can Obama now win over the regular folks, white folks, against John McCain?"
Matthews: Obama "can't walk into a dinette with five or six guys there, white guys, in some cases ... He can't just shake hands and hang out"
Matthews: Does Obama "connect with regular people" or just African-Americans and college grads?

Matthews fucks up nearly every time he talks about race, and really ought to learn that he doesn't have any sort of tact around the topic. Once you've committed enough gaffes, it becomes kind of meta.

Nope this is a "Chris Matthews is a closeted bigoted racist" free zone.
No one can make the point of how surprised Chris Matthew is that an African American male can continually put words together to make intelligent statements is so obviously racist. The only explanation is his "make racist comments free card" he picked up at the "but I have neighbors who know black people" convention.

Interesting question. Depends on who you are 'positively judging", I would say
As a white male, if I were to positively judge another white male on that alone ,,,, I would say i have racist and/ or bigoted tendencies
If I were to positively judge a black person on that alone, it could be argued that I would also have those tendencies, (i.e. ,,,, theres a black person, I have to treat him better and "like him" just because he IS black to make it 'fair")
(don't know if explained that well enough)

The one time my brother ever hit me was when I was really young, like, eight or so, and I offered to trade him all of my baseball cards of black players. He asked why, and I said, "I don't like the chocolates", repeating some dumb racist thing I'd heard someone say. He smacked me on the arm once, twice, three times, and then told me he knew that I didn't mean harm but that he needed to hammer in that I should never say or think anything like that again. Then he explained about how racism passes down passively, and why it's so dangerous.
He was only twelve, but he already knew what was up. Great older brother.

MATTHEWS
When Matthews first arrived in Washington, D.C., he worked as a police officer with the United States Capitol Police.[4] Subsequently, he served on the staffs of four Democratic members of Congress, including Senators Frank Moss and Edmund Muskie. In 1974, he mounted an unsuccessful campaign for the Pennsylvania's 4th congressional district seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, in which he received about 24% of the vote in the primary campaign.[5] Matthews was a presidential speechwriter during the Carter administration. Matthews later worked six years as a top aide to long-time Speaker of the House of Representatives Tip O'Neill, playing a direct role in many key political battles with the Reagan administration.
Any doubt about his 'political affiliation"???

"Nothing will be spared," it added, saying that the companies themselves would "bear the guilt" if their staff were harmed.

The concept is frequently associated with Charles Tiebout.[1] The term was also popularized by Ronald Reagan.[2]. Lenin is also said to have created the term in 1918 during World War I when he said that Russian soldiers had voted in favour of peace with Germany with their feet, since they were deserting in large numbers from the front line.

The official IRNA news agency and state Press TV said the defendants face charges ranging from plotting against the establishment to violating security regulations. Five of those on trial, including two women, were accused of "moharebeh," or defying God, a charge that could carry the death penalty, the semiofficial ISNA news agency reported.
The new prosecutions, coupled with the execution on Thursday of two men accused of involvement in anti-government groups, could mark an attempt by Iran's hardline leaders to intimidate the opposition ahead of a new round of street demonstrations expected in February.
Those who stood trial Saturday — including a follower of the Bahai faith, an alleged communist and a student activist — were detained during anti-government demonstrations on Dec. 27, when at least eight people were killed and hundreds more were arrested after clashes between opposition activists and security forces. The violence was the worst since authorities launched a harsh crackdown immediately after Iran's disputed presidential election in June.

3. Flying machine
"Abbas ibn Firnas was the first person to make a real attempt to construct a flying machine and fly," said Hassani. In the 9th century he designed a winged apparatus, roughly resembling a bird costume. In his most famous trial near Cordoba in Spain, Firnas flew upward for a few moments, before falling to the ground and partially breaking his back. His designs would undoubtedly have been an inspiration for famed Italian artist and inventor Leonardo da Vinci's hundreds of years later, said Hassani.

Hmm...in their minds...they would argue yes, but from what I see and as not being an engineer, it looks like a 'spinny thing'.
I guess here is my overall attitude about this subject however:
1. It's 2010 and I can sit in a basement, clacking on some buttons, and technology is in place that you can read what I am typing on this rectangular screen that changes all sorts of pretty colors.
2. I have to go outside, hop in my car and still do about the exact same as since the bloody car was invented, pull a lever and put some fossil fuel liquid into it to make it go.
Point 1 still fascinates me. Point 2 makes me think that there is some serious R & D issues that should have been worked out by now...I'm like...COME ON already. This car thing should be completely figured out by now to get super far mileage on super little. But that's just me.

Elsewhere in the lawless tribal belt bordering Afghanistan, suspected U.S. missiles killed nine alleged militants, officials said.
Fourteen civilians and two police officers died in the suicide attack in the Bajur tribal region, while 20 people were wounded, local government official Bakhat Pacha said. The attacker, on foot, struck a market area in the region's main town, Khar, he said.
Some of the wounded were in a critical condition at hospitals, he said.
The attack came a day after officials said security forces had killed 44 militants in three days of battles on the outskirts of Khar.

In some ways, yes. But while the kamikazes were deployed against military targets (and were not in fact a violation of the laws of war), suicide bombing has typically been deliberately deployed against civilian targets with the aim of terrorizing the targeted population into submission.
So it started when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

GOP lawmakers to try to block federal funds for 9/11 prosecutions
The legislation expected to be introduced early next week is sponsored by Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.), whose district borders Washington, D.C., and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), and would prohibit funding for any Justice Department prosecution in civilian courts of a person being tried in connection with the 9/11 attacks.
Earlier this week, Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) introduced a similar bill that would prohibit the use of federal funds to try within U.S. civilian courts any detainee being kept in the Guantanamo Bay prison.

Most definitely.
At the same time, kids do use it to get into some serious trouble-- not to send each other pics of themselves, but to send and receive photos to and from adults, usually random freaks they meet online. Webcams are more of a problem in that regard.Even so, that (real) threat is totally overblown.
And figure out ways to protect kids, rather than charging them with crimes for fooling around with their phones.

Is the recent racist remark from Chris Matthews not thread worthy? I mean if Rush, O'Reilly or Imus had said the stupid "I forgot he was black" comment we would be discussing how racist it was.
Matthews on Obama: "[T]his gets very ethnic, but the fact that he's good at basketball doesn't surprise anybody"
We did discuss it. Yes, it was racist. Chris Matthews is a weird man.

We boys were subjected to an extremely bizarre film that pretty much said: "BEING MALE, YOU MAY SUFFER FROM AN ERECTION FROM TIME TO TIME. If this happens to you, seek out the advice of your P.E. coach or clergyman, both of whom only stick their finger up your butt when it's in your best interests." re: #464 Walter L. Newton
That article is a good illustration of how cap and trade just moves emissions (and job loss) around the world without a net reduction in emissions.
All of this is doubtless useful to the interests of Tata back in India, which is heavily involved not just in bio-energy, renewables and insurance but also in ‘carbon trading’, the worldwide market in buying and selling the right to emit CO2. Much of this is administered at a profit by the UN under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) set up under the Kyoto Protocol, which the Copenhagen treaty was designed to replace with an even more lucrative successor.Under the CDM, firms and consumers in the developed world pay for the right to exceed their ‘carbon limits’ by buying certificates from those firms in countries such as India and China which rack up ‘carbon credits’ for every renewable energy source they develop – or by showing that they have in some way reduced their own ‘carbon emissions’.
It is one of these deals, reported in last week’s Sunday Telegraph, which is enabling Tata to "mothball" nearly three million tonnes of steel production at its Corus plant in Redcar, while opening a new plant in Orissa with a similar scale of production, gaining in the process a potential £1.2 billion in ‘carbon credits’ (while putting 1,700 people on Teesside out of work).

Just finished a book about iran by Bob Baer, a former CIA guy. And while I disagree with his ultimate conclusion that we should basically engage iran, find out what they want, and agree to much of it, he did explain something about suicide bombings that some of us probably don't understand.
He said that while the shia have a military and political stretegy behind these acts, the sunnis use them strictly for wanton violence and pure destruction. So when hezbollah or other iranian proxies blow themselves up, frequently there is at least SOME connection to a military target. But the sunnis are not as strategic and prefer to simply kill innocents, even though there is no real political gain from such violence. Very interesting stuff.

I agree with that analogy. It's the same with Iraq. The Dems in congress didn't like the way the war was being fought and would have loved to undermine the CiC. I was not a big fan of the Iraq war but once we were in it I wanted to win and supported the President and the military. Smae thing applies to these trials. My preference is military tribunals but if Obama thinks the best avenue is the courts then I wish him well and hope he gets the convictions. I would support any measures that help him get those convictions. It would be counterproductive to attempt to sabotage terrorist trials by cutting off funding.

Cold and sunny here, too. We were down in the single digits last night. On the eminently practical Fahrenheit scale, that is.
At the moment, the house is slowly filling with the smell of braising pork shoulder, slowly bubbling away in a puddle of apple cider, apple chunks, onions, carrots, celery, cinnamon, allspice, ground ginger and cayenne pepper. At $1.29 a pound, I may have to buy another shoulder and freeze it.

What it means is that the IPCC is incapable of putting together a properly referenced report. Which implies that the conclusions drawn by the IPCC in that report, or by others, are unsubstantiated.

In Saturday's weekly Republican address, Senator Susan Collins expressed her shock and disbelief that federal investigators spent only 50 minutes questioning bombing suspect Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, 23, before they allowed him to meet with a court-appointed attorney.
Collins says the FBI unilaterally decided to treat Abdulmutallab like a common criminal, not like the foreign terrorist that he is suspected of being, without consulting any of the nation's top intelligence agencies.
The senator calls the decision dangerous, and she accuses the Obama administration of having a "blind spot" when it comes to the war on terror. Collins says foreign terrorists are enemy combatants and should be treated as such.

It's generally a bad idea for those not involved in a situation to comment on it.
I'm not getting into the story here, because I see no reason to attack and futher humiliate someone who isn't present. Unlike several of you, who appear to be slavering at the opportunity to get involved, especially if it means a chance to get your iceweasel-hate on.
Anyone interested will find the backstory in the comments. The rest of you trying to stir shit? Piss off.
Awful lot of rhetoric just to say piss off...
612 | suchislife Sat, Jan 30, 2010 11:00:06am |
Iceweasel, this is unsolicited advice from a total newby, I know. I hope I'm not reopening this, but I don't have another way of telling you, and it is something that has been on my mind. You know how (this came up before) cheaters will accuse their spouses of cheating? One of the things you've most been accused of lately is baiting people, making them angry on purpose. So, if you think this is an unfounded accusation, you should ask yourself where it comes from, and react accordingly, namely, not by becoming angry.
I repeat, unsolicited advice by someone who has no stake in this, so do down-ding if you feel I'm being presumptious!
That said, I really don't know what I would do if I was you. Obviously you have no way of fighting the hostility towards you short of dragging up stuff that does not belong here, and is probably subjective to a certain degree.
Finally, you do realize that I'm adressing this to you, not because it seems to me that you are in the wrong (from what little I have seen), but because I can't see the opposite camp (sad to write that) caring about my opinion if they turned so completely against you to the point of completely disregarding your point of view over this after all the time you spend here.

Sharm disappeared after calling out a couple of trolls, who retaliated very nastily at having their ongoing bad behavior dragged out into the sunlight. In one of the overnight threads, roughly a week ago.

Totally agree. When I see 3-4 people start to get personal with one another, I leave. Life is too short for that bullshit.
There are some lefties here who I really like. We disagree, but that's it. I have two grown boys who do or believe a couple things with which I disagree, but I love them with all my heart. My 27 year-old is pretty far over on the left, but a father and son could not possibly be closer than we are.

Welcome to the world of human fallibility, but the bottom line is still that a summary report on science is not the science, even if includes some parts that are bad science.
i believe that some of our consternation is regarding the fact that the summary report is the easiest piece of the puzzle. data errors are understandable, as long as they're limited and don't invalidate the concusions. summary errors are...how did someone else put it...sophomoric.

I've been telling people from the beginning it's entirely personal and has nothing whatsoever to do with events on here. I refused to discuss it, for months, even to defend myself, because I don't think it's cool to divulge someone's personal confidences-- even when they're lying about me. Even when I know they're emailing people all kinds of crazy shit.
Then the door was opened by the person in question. That's it.
Anyone with a personal issue with me should just email me. None of it belongs here, and none of it ever did belong here. And it's a real turn-off to readers and members, both those registered and those thinking of registering.

What with the latest SCOTUS decision, maybe we should be talking about this:
With the President’s budget scheduled for release next week, I’ve grown increasingly interested in how the sausage is made: each agency’s recommendations and justifications, OMB’s clarifications and prioritizations, legislative language, committee actions, implementation reports, and after-the-fact evaluations. In digging into the issue, I’ve found a mishmash of resources spread throughout the internet (that I’ve compiled here). What has become increasingly apparent is that there is no single place where citizens, journalists, and legislative staff can access information about the budget, and often times the underlying numbers are locked away in PDFs, and budget justifications are available only in obscure locations on government web sites.
Wouldn’t it be great is we could easily compare what was allocated versus what was expended? To see how the numbers changed over time? To find the legislative language, OMB’s short summary of a particular appropriation bill, and the agency’s justification all in one place — right next to a report on how it was actually spent? To be able to translate budget-speak and codes into plain English?

I watched a TV report the other day that was upset that we had sent "guys with guns" to Haiti. Lots and lots of going on about "guys with guns."
Here's a snippet of a report from today:
There are 20,000 US troops in Haiti or offshore, and American now controls the port and airport. Humvees from the 82nd Airborne Division bump thought [sic] the potholed streets of Port-au-Prince's slums. US soldiers stand guard while Haitian special police question and search for suspects, trying to cope with the crime wave from the jails emptying during the earthquake.
My daughter read a report about what specific types of crimes are prevalent. I wish she didn't have to know about that type of thing.
God bless our guys with guns.

I don't think we're anywhere near leaning left. We've just gotten past the days when I got dinged down for admitting to voting for Obama.
(You may be on to something, though.)
On my first comment I gave a little bit of my background and said I'd voted for Obama. Every comment I made after that was downdinged so hard I thought I might be Space Jesus. And Mandy Manners suggested I was a "Fucking Commie Bastard" like my "hero." I'm still being hounded by Miss Manners, but I have more Karma points than Space Jesus; so I'd say LGF is leaning a little "lefter" than it was--maybe 45 degrees.

Before I move on up, let me make it clear to those who think I am referencing anyone here, that I was talking of the MSM reporters, serial AGW deniers and their pretenses when I posted this. Discussing the failings of UN committees is fine by me, if not terribly exciting.

It's creepy as hell. In 2005 (!) he also said "Everybody likes the president, except for the real wackos...."
I thought Ta-Nehisi Coates had a good take on this in the Atlantic:
I Just Remembered Chris Matthews is White
I think it's worth noting that Chris Matthews wasn't trying to take a shot at anybody. I also think it's worth noting that he was attempting to compliment Obama and say something positive about what he's done for race relations. (See Matthews' clarification here.) But I think it's most worth noting that "I forgot Obama was black"--in all its iterations--is something that white people should stop saying, if only because it's really dishonest.
One way to think about this is to flip the frame. Around these parts, we've been known, from time to time, to chat about the NFL. We've also been known to chat about the intricacies of beer. If you hang around you'll notice that there are no shortage of women in these discussions. Having read a particularly smart take on Brett Favre, or having received a good recommendations on a particular IPA, it would not be a compliment for me to say, "Wow, I forgot you were a woman." Indeed, it would be pretty offensive.
The problems is three-fold. First, it takes my necessarily limited, and necessarily blinkered, experience with the fairer sex and builds it into a shibboleth of invented truth. Then it takes that invented truth as a fair standard by which I can measure one's "woman-ness." So if football and beer don't fit into my standard, I stop seeing the person as a woman. Finally instead of admitting that my invented truth is the problem, I put the onus on the woman. Hence the claim "I forgot you were a woman," as opposed to "I just realized my invented truth was wrong."
More at the link, but imo he nails it.

No it's not. And don't forget, I get the off line emails just like you do. I know what's going on. I'm not oblivious to some of the machinations that go on off line, off this blog. The little party has more guests than you imagine, you just can't see them.
Oh we have known for some time that there is a cowardly whispering campaign being organised by the newly ascended Saint Sharmuta. Congrats for confirming it.
You know what's shitty about a whispering campaign? You can't respond to the lies that are being circulated because you don't even know exactly what they are. If she has something to say, she should say it here where it can be seen and responded to, instead of this disgusting, gutless behaviour that she is perpetrating by email. But she will not do that because she knows how easily we can debunk her bullshit and expose what really went down if it is brought out into the open, as happened the last time:
[Link: littlegreenfootballs.com...]
[Link: littlegreenfootballs.com...]
If you are concerned about Sharmuta and her reputation here my advice to you is to stop picking at this, because anytime you do, the truth will be told, and the truth about what she did here ain't pretty.
Like I said at the time, I wish none of this had been brought up here in the first place; this sort of thing is NOT what LGF is for, but if it is brought up, make no mistake - ice and I will set the record straight.

re: #635 suchislife
They were not talking about trolls but about Sharmuta's ongoing feud with long time lizards Ice weasel and by extension Jimmah which finally peaked in her accusing Ice weasel of "telling her friends to let her starve when she was in need" which prompted ice weasel to post some of the back story because she wouldn't let that stand, so that it became obvious that none of this constant sniping has anything to do with what happens on this blog or even with right/left politics. I really wish anyone who has a personal problem with ice weasel for things they think she did but of which there is no record would just send her private emails, I'm sure she could handle that very well and I for one would appreciate it greatly. I really doubt any of these insinuations will change anyone's mind.
I just saw that things have moved on, thankfully, and I'll end it with this, but I did want to say this.
Absolutely, suchislife. As iceweasel said at the time, this has been going on for months, and has been brought onto LGF by Sharmuta who has at every turn refused to deal with the issue offline:

re: #735 Jimmah
Hi Jimmah, I've been thinking about this a bit more, and I've reread this thread and some others, and I've come to realize that whereas for me and most of the other lizards here, it's easy to say just keep it of the blog, all the while people you personally know and who know you accuse your wife of all sorts of things judging from the amount of anger people that are so very reasonable and amiable otherwise as say reine de tout seem to bear her.
And while I know nothing about what happend offline, I can extrapolate from the veracity of the criticism leveled against you two for your conduct on this blog.
Also, I've come to realize that the constant baseless accusations of a vast icewing conspiracy to bait and downding people out of existence has actually scared me away from taking a stand a couple of times. I mean, seriously, you two liked each others comments on a blog so much you actually got married, ice weasel who you like so much you married her has been targeted for months, and now people say it's a conspiracy that you upding and downding the same comments a lot of the time? Seems to me the only proper response to that is "Get a room!" Which you did, permanently.

Mandy bullying new posters is great! It's funny when she tells people to google new posters' usernics, or reposts their comments and tells them to downding them even more!
Iceweasel calling her out on it? Oh that's BAD! That's the 'real' bullying!

Everything Ice says in this unfortunate affaire du blog is to the best of my personal knowledge true. Let's just say, meeting someone only on the Web and then bringing them into your real virtual (to include email, but also phone calls, chats, sharing pictures, etc.) can work out, or it can go wrong, just like in meatspace.
When it spills back into blogspace, no one but the off-web people really know what happened.
And that's the way I think people should leave it. What happens off-blog should stay off blog.
Good night, and good luck, to one and all.
