I'm currently educating a friend of mine about the music of both Ben Folds and Ben Folds Five. She remembers hearing "Brick" on the radio and loved the new song because of the video with the Fraggles and she wants to hear more.

This is probably the most fun tutoring session I've had in ages. XD

But it was also clear that Mr. Romney's aides were worried how the campaign was faring with six weeks until the election: Mr. Ryan and Mr. Romney will campaign together more in coming weeks, an aide said.

In normal circumstances, that might be seen as inefficient, since the No. 2 is often used to cover more ground and to level the more aggressive attacks against the opponent.

But having them campaign together more suggested that aides feared that Mr. Romney, on his own, was not generating enough attention and excitement.

112th CONGRESS
2d Session
H. RES. 789

Reaffirming the importance of religion in the lives of United States citizens and their freedom to exercise those beliefs peacefully.
IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
September 19, 2012

...

Whereas a Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life survey from 2007 shows that 92 percent of United States citizens believe in God and 78.4 percent identify themselves with Christianity;

...

Whereas a 2006 to 2007 study by the Association of Religion Data Archives shows that 30.3 percent of religious people perform charity work, and of that 30.3 percent, 75.9 percent are part of Christian congregations: Now, therefore, be it

Resolved, That the House of Representatives--

(1) reaffirms the importance of religion in the lives of United States citizens and their freedom to exercise those beliefs peacefully;

(2) recognizes that Judeo-Christian heritage has played a strong role in the development of the United States and in the lives of many of the Nation’s citizens;

(3) rejects efforts to remove evidence of Judeo-Christian heritage and references to God from public structures and resources; and

(4) expresses support for preserving the freedom to exercise religious beliefs in the United States.

Whoa! Allen West is a Wizard:

Last paragraph:

Broadly speaking, I agree with Rep. West that the role this dotty little video played in all of the intense anger has been largely overstated. But it doesn't cost us much to simply say that we, as a nation, do not agree with the obscene viewpoints expressed therein -- hopefully, we don't. (If West does agree with them, he should nut up and say so.) But it sort of doesn't help anyone to express a viewpoint that comes off as substantially more brutal-minded than the Ezekiel 25:17 recitative from "Pulp Fiction." Try, real hard, to be the shepherd, Ringo.

I know that "Ringo" refers to a character in Pulp Fiction, but I'm going to use the name as an older reference:

Allen West's atitude towards dealing with a hostile force of people can be described as "If brute force doesn't work, you haven't used enough of it!". In COIN, brute force is counter-productive. All you do is convince the insurgents of the validity of their cause, while creating a steady supply of converts for them via collateral damage.

Going rogue!

Paul Ryan vs. The Stench

Even before the stench article appeared, there was a strong sign that Ryan was freeing himself from the grips of the Romney campaign. It began after his disastrous appearance on Friday before AARP in New Orleans. Ryan delivered his remarks in the style dictated by his Romney handlers: Stand behind the lectern, read the speech as written and don’t stray from the script.

Ryan brought his 78-year-old mother with him and introduced her to the audience, which is usually a sure crowd pleaser.

But when Ryan began talking about repealing “Obamacare” because he said it would harm seniors, one woman in the crowd shouted, “Lie!” Another shouted “Liar!” and the crowd booed Ryan lustily.

“I hate to say this, but if Ryan wants to run for national office again, he’ll probably have to wash the stench of Romney off of him,” Craig Robinson, a former political director of the Republican Party of Iowa, told The New York Times on Sunday.

snip...

Though Ryan had already decided to distance himself from the floundering Romney campaign, he now feels totally uninhibited. Reportedly, he has been marching around his campaign bus, saying things like, “If Stench calls, take a message” and “Tell Stench I’m having finger sandwiches with Peggy Noonan and will text him later.”

That was a touchdown! Both players have their hands on the ball when they are in the air, but the Seahawk player's feet touched the ground first. According to the NFL rulebook, the player has to secure the ball in his hands or arms AND touch the ground with both feet inbounds or any part of his body other than his hands. Of course, the refs blew the pass interference, but as far as the replay is concerned, the TD should count.

Of course, the refs blew the pass interference, but as far as the replay is concerned, the TD should count.

Go back and read the rules...For fuck sake 2 billion people watched the replay and you and the NFL front office think it was a catch. The NFL really messed up. I'm fucking pissed that the entire issue could be solved for an extra 20 cents per ticket. They damaged the product and that replay clip will be played forever.

I've been saying for ages that the only thing that matters this year is the debates. Whoever crushes the other is the next POTUS. Period.
I think Obama will do just fine..But never underestimate your foe. Don't forget, Mitt is like Gordon Geko from Wall Street. Smooth operator.

Agreed completely. I think Romney is a formidable debater. I don't want him to win, but I haven't ruled out that he could, and I would be wary about underestimating him.

I can't see how Romney can debate well against Obama without abandoning everything he's said the entire campaign.

You pretty much just described his campaign to day.

You're the only person I've seen arguing this. All of the ESPN talking heads I watched today said the exact opposite. The video says the exact opposite.

It was an interception. And even before that, the idiot refs blew the offensive pass interference call that should have ended the game in the first place.

The refs blew it. Simple as that.

They should have called offensive interference for the push-off...the interception was irrelevant.

Exactly. The pass interference should have ended the play and the game no matter what. The fact that they were too stupid to call an interception an interception is just another scab ref fail.

I don't know much about football, but is it possible that some sort of Uber-Coach will over-rule the call on the field at some point down the line?

105 SteveMcG  Tue, Sep 25, 2012 7:41:39pm

re: 98 Lidane

No doubt about the PI. SOme talking head on ESPN said before the season started that pass interference was going to get out of control. Having said that, I can't understand how everybody is missing the crucial point, and that is the Seahawk player's feet touch the ground first. Just because the defender looks like he has a better grasp of the football, the offensive player meets the criteria of a catch. As soon as he completes that catch in the end zone, the play is over immediately. I think this is a case of everybody hating the temps. They deserve it, to be sure, but I don't think you can guarantee that the regulars would have called it any different. I really would have expected a learning curve for the temps, but they're just as bad now as they were in the preseason.

They're mostly high school football refs...think about it. The pros are so much bigger and faster than high school kids. These guys have to be intimidated as fuck out there.

It's going to stand. The NFL has already said they're not going to do anything about it.

I'm not surprised. Admitting that it was a shitty call means admitting that the scab refs are incompetent, which would only bolster the position of the real refs and their union. The owners don't want to do that, so the league is just going to keep up the Baghdad Bob routine about the shitty officiating.

The Seahawk player doesn't even have a grip on the ball. At best, he's got a single hand on it. The idea that he caught it is wishful thinking at best.

Honestly, I wouldn't blame them if they did. It would be a huge blow to the owners, sure, but it would send a message that the players and coaches have had enough of the scab refs.

This was a division game. The shitty call at the end will likely make a difference at the end of the season if the Packers make it to the playoffs. This isn't the pre-season anymore. These calls matter now.

120 SteveMcG  Tue, Sep 25, 2012 7:53:20pm

BTW I'm well aware of the pass interference. That's not reviewable. Should have been called. I think the refs got caught up watching the flight of the football. That 'snot the first time I've seen a blown offensive PI.

121 Mich-again  Tue, Sep 25, 2012 7:54:34pm

If anyone made the right call it was the replay guy. He isn't a replacement ref btw. If the guy on the field had made the wrong call it would have been reversed by the replay guy. Give the replacements a break. They aren't that much worse than the other yo yo's.

It is kind of like the tuck rule game. Everyone thought it was a bad call, but it turned out to be the right call for the rule as the rule is worded. That's how I think this will all settle out.

Lesson for the Cheesehead defensive back because he probably never heard this before from any of his hundreds of coaches since Little League.

KNOCK IT DOWN!

What are the rules for simultaneous possession. It definitely looked like the GB player had more possession if that matters.

124 SteveMcG  Tue, Sep 25, 2012 7:58:36pm

Both players had their hands on the ball. That's posession. That's the rule. Just because it looks like the defender had a better grip doesn't mean the offensive player didn't also have posession. Everybody's so worked up to trash the temps they don't want to resort to reason.

125 SteveMcG  Tue, Sep 25, 2012 8:01:11pm

The only rule for simultaneous possesion:
"If the ball is caught simultaneously by two eligible opponents, and both players retain it, the ball belongs to the passers."

That is my understanding of that rule. I just refer to it as "tie goes to the offense" rule.

No it's not. The GB player caught the ball first and pulled it to his chest before the other player put his hand on it. The rule doesn't apply to simultaneous possession. It doesn't matter who's feet touched first.
I agree with the millions of experts on this.

130 SteveMcG  Tue, Sep 25, 2012 8:40:22pm

I keep repeating upstairs that you don't have posession until your feet hit the ground. It doesn't matter whether the defender pulled it to his chest. It's not relevant. What is relevant is that both players had their hands on the ball when their feet hit the ground. That's what the rule says. The rule doesn't give you extra posession for pulling it to your chest. If the defender had been able to pull the ball away from the offensive player, maybe you have a case. In real life (not in the haters' idignant imaginations) both players had their hands on the ball when their feet touched the field.

If the ball is caught simultaneously...

That's the argument right there. If one guy catches the ball first, the other guy can't just grab it later. But that isn't what happened. They caught it together. Ugly play, right call. Horrible way to lose a game Packers.. Knock it down next time.

132 SteveMcG  Tue, Sep 25, 2012 8:50:58pm
