Thread (four tweets):

While the city seems to want to test people, the goal is simply to kick homeless people off trains. They are not providing sufficient space for them.

Been there, done that, if you can make homeless people “move along,” then we don’t exist. I can’t remember how many times I was kicked out of public libraries.

This is also why the Los Angeles Metro Rail stations do not have any bathrooms in their stations. Deliberately designed to discourage loitering by homeless people…

So getting a bit caught up, I see the Pentagon officially released those videos that have been floating around on the internet for quite some time now.

Yeah, they are indeed unidentified flying objects (I think the preferred nomenclature these days is “unidentified aerial phenomenon”). And while that’s quite interesting, and I’m genuinely curious as to what exactly they are, it doesn’t mean they’re being piloted by E.T., or the grays, or the Martians from Mars Attacks!

Still, good to see the Pentagon release it and classify it as “unidentified”, which is exactly it is. Now we need to find out what it is and where it comes from.

330 more coronavirus cases reported in Nebraska, its biggest one-day jump (Scottsbluff, Nebr. Star-Herald)

This breaks the previous record, set twice last week.

Omaha is the Douglas County seat and Nebraska’s largest city.

Nebraska saw its largest one-day jump in coronavirus cases on Monday, and a 15th person has died from the virus in the Omaha area, health officials reported.

Also on Monday, Douglas County again saw its largest daily jump in cases.

Nebraska reported 3,358 cases on Monday, up 330 from the day before. The previous highest single-day increase was 311 cases, which occurred twice last week.

The new death in Douglas County was a woman in her 60s, according to the Douglas County Health Department. She had other health problems that made her vulnerable to severe illness from the virus, the Health Department said.

The county reported its first case on March 6 and its first death on March 27.

The Health Department reported that 49 new cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus, were confirmed Monday. That’s the highest daily total since the county began reporting cases in early March. The previous highest daily jump in cases occurred Sunday, when the number rose by 41. Monday marked the sixth consecutive day of double-digit increases in cases in Douglas County.

The article notes the ages of newly-infected people range from four to sixty-two.

Official figures for the state are here:
nebraska.maps.arcgis.com

Panhandle Public Health District (the eleven Panhandle counties plus Grant County) reports one new case today, bringing the cumulative number to forty-five. Twenty-eight have recovered. There is no report yet which county that person is from.

The woman in my county who was reported weeks ago is still in the hospital.

Two-thirds of cases here are women. The hardest-hit age group is 40-49.

Yeah, it could be some heretofore unknown atmospheric phenomenon. It could also be some unknown tech, at least unknown to the pilots who chased or if it’s some foreign technology, unknown to the Pentagon; I know it’s currently believed that Capt. Thomas Mantell died while chasing a Skyhook balloon (the Mantell incident is one of the more famous cases in UFOlogy) and in 1948, Capt. Mantell wouldn’t have known about Project Skyhook, as it was a classified project at that time.

Still, it’s nonetheless interesting and I’m sure that quite soon - if not right now - the usual suspects are gonna be out there saying OMG THE PENTAGON JUST SAID WE’RE BEING INVADED BY LITTLE GREEN MEN!!! or something to that effect.

Judge Rejects Reality Winner’s Petition for Release From Prison Due to COVID-19 (Law dot com)

Judge Randal Hall noted that, even if he did have authority to commute her sentence, he wouldn’t do so.

A federal judge has rejected a motion to commute Reality Winner’s sentence to home confinement despite the presence of COVID-19 at the federal prison where she is housed.

In a Friday order, District Chief Judge Randal Hall, of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Georgia, said he agreed with federal prosecutors that Winner has not exhausted her administrative remedies through the U.S. Bureau of Prisons. Hall also held that the bureau, not the judiciary, has the sole authority to grant Winner “compassionate release.”

Hall noted that, even if he did have authority to commute her sentence because of extraordinary circumstances associated with the spread of COVID-19 and her prior medical conditions, he wouldn’t do so.

“Winner is in a medical prison, which is presumably better equipped than most to deal with the onset of COVID-19 in its inmates,” he said.

The US Navy had a long running effort to keep track of these things.

While ordinary officers, even fly boys, may be unaware of many secret projects (US or otherwise), the DNI is pretty clued in to what goes on behind closed doors.

I can only speculate on what is really behind the USN releasing this stuff now. Sure, the NYT leaked some of it a couple of years ago, but what could propel the USN to officially acknowledge it now? In the middle of a pandemic… in the closing three innings of the election race… at the beginning of a Great Recession with likely resultant warfare hither and yon…

You have to get everyone off the train before you can send in the sterilization crews. And the people evicted are being offered testing, accommodations (opening temporary tent shelters in parks that won’t be so crowded; the weather’s nice enough and parks are closed to the general public) , and if they refuse any services at all they’re at least being sent off with a towel, a couple bars of soap and a bag of food.

On the other hand, I assert that America’s fascination with scary unknown UFOs is deeply routed in the magical thinking of religious fundamentalists. This is more than just correlation - it’s a deep reveal into how humans think.

Parks being closed to the general public: Are not homeless people part of “the general public?” What do the police do if they find homeless people in parks now? Harass them as they usually do, or arrest them and throw them in jail for being in a closed park?

Poll in today’s regional newspaper:

Gov. Pete Ricketts announced the relaxation of some directed health measures on Friday. Do you think lifting of restrictions went far enough?

Choices are “yes” and “no.”

The Star-Herald allows comments on poll questions, so I noted the question is loaded: It did not offer the answer “his restrictions do not go far enough.”

There’s certainly a strong hint of Christian eschatology in parts of UFOlogy - the notion that when things are at their bleakest, that when it seems all hope is gone and humanity is doomed, E.T. will arrive in his magic spaceship, save us all, and usher in a new Golden Age. You can clearly see this in the UFO religions.

The general public that’s in the park in normal times is A LOT of people and their dogs, not the least little bit distanced from each other. The homeless people who sleep in the park during normal times are VERY distanced; they have their individual little spots in the wooded parts or under bushes far enough off the walking paths where people out for a walk won’t usually even notice them. And no, they’re not being arrested.

McSweeney’s Internet Tendency is breaking from its usual humour to look for serious stories of the elderly during the epidemic. The bottom of the article from the editor includes a link to add your own story.

In the past few weeks, the voices and even the lives of older people have been marginalized, scapegoated, written off. Most recently, certain politicians have presented a false and horrifying choice — either we protect citizens over 60 or we save the economy.

We thought it was time to hear their voices. They are living this anxious, troubled moment like no one else. Every day we will add more stories to this mosaic — some tragic, some wistful, some full of levity and hope. They will be at the top of this page every morning.

Please add your voice. If you want to share your thoughts, or if you know a family member, neighbor, or friend who should be heard, click here for our submission guidelines.

A bit of interesting novel coronavirus news from Czech Republic just being reported on Czech television. A team of Czech epidemiologists took a look at blood samples from inhabitants of the town of Český Krumlov, blood samples taken in December of last year…..and found antibodies for SARS-CoV-2.

Several individuals from Český Krumlov suffered from a then-unknown life-threatening respiratory illness starting in mid-December of 2019 - a few of them ended up in the hospital and two of them had to be put on ventilators and both subsequently died in short order, before the end of last year. It was blood tests taken from the deceased and put into storage that detected the presence of SARS-CoV-2. The team then tested those who survived - and found SARS-CoV-2 antibodies present in their blood as well. The owner of a local bed and breakfast, identified as a 43-year-old Czech man, tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 and he’s said that he was in daily contact with tourists from China during mid-December of last year.

Český Krumlov is very popular with Chinese tourists (indeed, tourists from around the world as it’s a UNESCO designated World Heritage Site) and was visited by over a quarter million Chinese tourists last year alone.

The epidemiologists are going to continue their work, but this strongly suggests that SARS-CoV-2 was circulating in Czech Republic as early as December of last year, not the beginning of March 2020 as is currently believed. And I’d be willing to bet that if SARS-CoV-2 was already causing illnesses (and deaths) in Český Krumlov by December 2019, it sure as hell was circulating in Prague too: The head of the team said they’re going to turn their attention to Prague next.

There’s nothing really strange about the possibility of COVID-19 being out of China by December 2019. If the first identified patient was diagnosed on November 17, 2019, considering how much travel into and out of Wuhan there is, mid-December 2019 is completely unsurprising for early European cases. Even late November wouldn’t shock me if that turned out to be the case.

That said, it may have been in the US much earlier than thought, but that still doesn’t mean there’s herd immunity or a far lower infection fatality rate vs case fatality rate than currently believed. The Branch Covidians and VDH can fuck right the fuck off on that.

I was just remembering right now that in the last two weeks of January and into the first two weeks of February, my Monday morning lessons at the University Hospital of Ostrava were cancelled. The reason being that visitors were prohibited because of an outbreak of what was described at the time as “viral pneumonia”, and I recall my student (a general practitioner) said it was unusually virulent….he’d never seen anything quite like it in his ten years of practice. I’ll have to message him and ask him what he thinks in light of the COVID-19 pandemic; I haven’t seen him since early January because of their closure owing to this “viral pneumonia”, then I came down with what, in retrospect, I’m about 99% sure was COVID-19, then he went on vacation for a couple of weeks, and right after that, the state of emergency was declared here and hospitals went into lockdown.

I know several people who were really sick here in Southern California in January, February, and into early March. All assumed they had the flu. One lives in the same house with me, one is a close friend that was here a lot, another was a friend up in Los Angeles, and the last was a coworker. The LA friend was recently tested for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies and was negative, as was her fiance.

I caught what I assumed was the flu from one of them (I think it was from the office coworker based on early symptom similarities) on or around March 3rd and ended up with pneumonia and was about to go into get checked out around March 20 aft er emailing my primary care doctor. Then I started to feel much better the next day so I never bothered to try to make an appointment or go to urgent care. I feel like I’ve gotten about 90% better, but it’s never gone away completely. I feel fine, but there’s this nagging “I can tell my lungs aren’t A-OK” feeling. I’m consistently in a 93-98% SpO2 range so I’m trying to not let it bother me. I have no idea if I had the Flu and a “normal” case of walking pneumonia or if I had COVID-19.

Everyone that lives with me is fine and never got sick other than the one that was sick in February. I *really* want an antibody test to see if this was an extremely mild and dragged out case of COVID-19, or if I just had one of the damn flu virus that’s going around here. Just for peace of mind. I have no idea how to go about getting such test here yet.

Yeah, I’m in the same boat…I can tell my lungs took some damage from whatever it was I had back in February. They’re planning on doing free antibody blood testing to anyone who wants it in the next two weeks or so, an initiative of the Ministry of Health as part of collecting general epidemiological data regarding COVID-19 in Czech Republic, so when they do that, I’ll go get a test.

I forgot to mention that I do know someone who actually had COVID-19 in mid-March as well but I had no contact with her since October. She had one of those “mild” cases and seems to be fully back to normal now, at least based on what she’s said on Facebook.

She also stated no one that lives in the same home with her caught it, or if they did they were completely asymptomatic.

Meanwhile I was really into Vonnegut reading Cat’s Cradle, Sirens of Titan, God Bless You Mister Rosewater, Slaughterhouse Five and I was waiting in anticipation to read Breakfast of Champions…

heh. My reading ran through most of those books (except “Love Story”) right when I was graduating high school in 1981. Had read “Jonathan Livingston Seagull” a few years previously. It was probably my sister’s copy of the book. And my SF reading from the local library had gotten me binge reading whatever Vonnegut they had - which if I recall correctly I had missed since they had it shelved in general fiction and not in the separate small SF section I had discovered years earlier.

Also, the Roswell incident is believed to have been directly related to a failed Project Mogul balloon launch and in 1947, Mogul was classified information, so it would’ve been covered up at that time.

That video could also be an artifact from the camera system and software recording it. Looks like thermal imaging as well.

An anti-vaxx group organized last weekend’s reopen Florida rally in Tampa

Organized by a local anti-vaccine group, hundreds of protesters gathered in Tampa Sunday afternoon calling for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to immediately reopen the state despite the coronavirus pandemic. Pro-Trump posters, anti-abortion signs and Gadsden (“Don’t tread on me”) flags could be seen, while protesters stood shoulder-to-shoulder, ignoring local rules on social distancing.

Of course Biblical scholars would be interested in UFO’s.

“As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind. Elisha saw this and cried out, ‘My father! My father! The chariots and horsemen of Israel!’ And Elisha saw him no more.”

(we’re still waiting for him to come back. Every year at Passover, we leave a door unlocked, set a place for him at the table, and nobody else can sit in his chair.)

And Ezekiel is often cherry picked for the “a wheel inside of a wheel” to indicate a visitation by a UFO.

Well, looks like Kenya’s not gonna fuck around with poachers of endangered species:

Kenya is home to a number of iconic animals ranging from elephants and rhinoceros to giraffes, leopards and cheetahs. Elephants and rhinoceros are among the most threatened, as their tusks and horns make them prime targets to poachers.

It’s illegal to kill the endangered animals in Kenya, and the Wildlife Conservation Act, put in place in 2013, carries a life sentence or fine of $200,000 for offenders.

However, according to Najib Balala, cabinet secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, “This has not been deterrence enough to curb poaching.” As a result, a much harsher sentence has now been announced: poachers in Kenya will now face the death penalty.

This scientist, though challenged, has the best history of dealing with DoD approaches to UFO thinking. His early 1970s conclusions were that most of the reports could be explained, that the few remaining could not be explained with current human and conceptual tools, and that most inquiries bogged down in special interest and case-making.

One possible reason for the USN release is internal personnel needs—The Navy has to trust its pilots and their training, and cannot safely choke off incident reporting.

My personal theory is that the USAF was more than happy to have people believing in UFOs if it distracted them from finding out what was really going on, namely testing weapons and other aircraft based on poached Nazi designs.

Little did they realize how much of a cultural institution UFOlogy would become.

Of course we knew Trumpworld knew of the dire situation unfolding with covid19. They did nothing and covered up how bad it could be. We knew that folks like Loeffler and Burr used their briefings to go to their brokers to cash in on the insider info. We will probably learn that Trumpworld did the same thing, because that’s the only thing that matters to Trump.

But we also see how Trump muzzled everyone from Birx to Fauci in the early days to play down the seriousness. And I question whether Esper and the DoD took actions sufficient to protect the military from disruptions. It’s clear that it was haphazard at best - 26 ships with outbreaks, and multiple ships have had to be diverted to deal with outbreaks including the Roosevelt.

A long read from a Snopes investigation to giveaways of food being promoted on Facebook.

The groups are themed toward support of police, nostalgia, and right-wing politics.

However, they are run out of Kosovo, and are used to gather private information by diverting people to a bogus streaming service in Cyprus to gather credit card details.

The groups have created fake profiles of Americans, in one case stealing the photograph of a private investigator in Mississippi and claiming he’s a cop to add credibility to the site.

Additionally, on one site a New York City police department branch started following one of the pages, adding further credibility. When Snopes approached the NYPD to ask them about it, they were told the police were unaware the pages were inauthentic. Nevertheless, the Brooklyn department is still following that page.

The food giveaway (fake) is capitalising on the pandemic and fears of food shortages to sign people up.

They’re planning on doing free antibody blood testing to anyone who wants it in the next two weeks or so, an initiative of the Ministry of Health as part of collecting general epidemiological data regarding COVID-19 in Czech Republic, so when they do that, I’ll go get a test.

I’m entirely in favor of testing, as widely as we can do it. That said, I noted a while back that UCSF had become able to test everyone who presented at their hospital with covid-19-like symptoms. They’re close to Santa Clara county, which, as we know, was already a hotspot.

95% of the people they tested were negative, and that was in April, around three weeks ago.

I find the timing of this recent UFO information sharing a bit suspicious. Granted, it’s not earthshaking, but the release of more information certainly could be. Maybe these videos were trotted out as part of a marketing test. You know, see how it goes, then push the envelope a little bit.

But if we are going to be visited, let it be the great state of Texas, right in the middle of that shitbag Joel Osteen’s megachurch, just because it would be so entertaining to watch his followers’ heads explode.

“You know, I told them from the beginning it was a bad idea. Either you do it right or you don’t do it at all but they were begging me, just begging. ‘Mr. President, we want to reopen our states’ so I said if you’re going to reopen, you better follow the rules. Apparently they didn’t follow the rules and now it’s a mess out there. A real mess. This should never have happened. Terrible. All they had to do was follow the rules. Just follow them.”

From washpo reporting
Paraphrasing from electoral-vote.com

the President’s Daily Briefings in January and February included more than a dozen warnings about the imminent threat posed by COVID-19, and Trump ignored them all. … We may never know everything Trump knew (or should have known) and when he knew it, but we’re getting to the point that this is not a “Trump administration” failure so much as it is a “Trump and only Trump” failure.

Not according to my “sane” conservative acquaintances. Everyone’s to blame, not just Trump, dontcha know?

As dumb as that motherfucker can be at times, I think he knows he has that level of protection from everyone who votes Republican. No matter how bad things get, he knows deep down that they’ll never come out and blame him, whether it’s fear of him or lemming-like loyalty to the party.

Shit, as good a job as Gov. Hogan in MD appears to be doing, as soon as it’s clear enough, he’ll go right back to supporting Trump like a good little GOP drone.

I can’t see him doing that. The only wiggle room Maher has is that he’s actually on-board with the cervical cancer vaccine, but that’s mostly because religious right freaks thinks it turns girls in to wanton sex machines. But given all of his other wacko views on medicine, to get a vaccine at this point is to admit failure.

The science podcast I listen to features a woman who use to date him for a while. When they get on the subject of vaccinations, every so often her relationship with him gets acknowledged. She has said that the whole subject is a sacred cow for him. Nothing will ever budge Maher from admitting he’s wrong on this.

Remember, Roberts voted to uphold the ACA twice before the pandemic. I don’t believe he would strike it down based on an even more stupid theory than the prior cases. At least we know to run candidates now.

This has a lot to do with the shortage of candidates. You have to pay these fees to the party in order to run in an election you will likely lose.

VI. Alabama Democratic Party Requirements

The state party requires candidates to file a qualifying fee and the following Declaration of Candidacy form.
WARNING: Qualifying forms and fees must be received in our office prior to the qualifying deadline regardless of postmark. We must have the forms in hand by 5:00 PM at the end of qualifying in order to certify the nominees by our deadline.

2020 Forms

Declaration of Candidacy [PDF document]

Delegate Qualifying Form [PDF document]

Presidential Qualifying Form [PDF document]

Petition Signature Form for Presidential Candidates [PDF document]

Qualifying fees are based on 2% of the base salary for each office. The following calculations are subject to change if found to be incorrect.

Please call[no phone numbers allowed] for an updated list of qualifying fees.
Type Office Qualifying Fee
Federal President $2,500.00
Federal United States Senate $3,480.00
Federal United States House of Representatives $3,480.00
Judicial Associate of the Alabama Supreme Court $3,321.44
Judicial Circuit Court Judge $2,520.36
Judicial Court of Civil Appeals Judge $3,301.44
Judicial Court of Criminal Appeals Judge $3,301.44
Judicial District Court Judge $2,500.36
State Public Service Commission, President $2,069.80
State School Board (Seats1,3,5,and 7) $360.00
Party 2020 Democratic National Convention Delegate $50.00

No argument here. I can almost look past people voting for Christie the first time. Almost; my sister’s a teacher. That whole “I don’t hate the teachers, just their union” bullshit is infuriating, mostly because people are generally stupid and it puts a bullseye on teachers’ backs. Plus, it was pretty fucking clear at that point that Republicans in general were starting to lose their shit.

That said, there was no fucking excuse for voting for him the second time. I still get a migraine from Newark Star-Ledger endorsing him by essentially saying “We hate him so therefore we must endorse him.”

For their own short term gain. I don’t think many of them are thinking long-term, but instead fixated on a short-term threat.

(Perhaps a poor analogy, but the southern states could well have accepted Lincoln’s election in 1860 and easily dragged out slavery for another twenty years or more, and probably entrenched Jim Crow equivalents even deeper. Instead, they listened to their radical fire-eaters and initiated a bloodbath that lost them slavery within five years and set themselves back economically for generations.)

“As soon as I saw what it was linked to on Saturday, it was exactly that time I knew I had to get it totally taken off my body,” he said. “I said cover it up [to reporters], but I want to get it removed from my body. It’s shameful that I had it on there ignorantly.”

Rohrwasser, who was selected in the NFL draft’s fifth round Saturday (No. 159 overall), told Patriots reporters that day that he thought the tattoo stood for supporting the military and said he “should have done way more research before I put any mark or symbol like that on my body.”

If you’re going to run in Texas as one of the major party members, you have to file fees (not every office allows political affiliation). If you’re not going to run under a party, there are signature requirements: ballotpedia.org.

Like I said, though, Texas Democrats finally learned it was time to run people in every office.

In Nebraska, all offices are ostensibly non-partisan. The only party affiliations are for federal offices.

For every office, the filing fee is 1% of the office’s annual salary. You must use your own money and may not raise funds specifically for the filing fee. (Keeps the poors from running for significant offices.)

As such, the two times I ran and won on the village board, the filing fee was $0, because the position did not pay. In my second term I supported an ordinance to pay village board members $100 a month. This time around the filing fee is $12, paid to the village clerk who files it with the county.

Which is probably for the best, going from leader of a state legislative house to national office is a jump that probably doesn’t work out well for most.

I’m still torn on the VP nomination. Normally, I don’t think it matters all that much. The Vice-Presidency is still the proverbial bucket of warm piss as far as I’m concerned. But given the high likelihood that Biden won’t seek a second term, whoever is his running mate this year will likely be the nominee in 2024. Normally, I’d say I’d want someone like Harris to stay in the Senate where she could do more, but in this case, I’d be a bit more open to a pick like that (and it does open an interesting question of who Newsom would pick to replace Harris in the Senate).

Biden already said he would not seek a second term, so anyone he picks gets an incumbency leg up in 2024. By then the GOP should be a smoking ruin as far as viable candidates go—Trump sucks the air out of all of them.

Joe Biden ‘won’t run for re-election’ if he beats Trump in 2020 (The Independent, 11 Dec 2019)

Joe Biden “won’t be running for re-election” if he wins the White House in 2020, according to a new report, as the 77-year-old former vice president maintains a clear frontrunner status in the Democratic primaries.

Advisers to Mr Biden told Politico it was highly unlikely that he’d seek a second term in office, with one source telling the news outlet: “He’s going into this thinking: ‘I want to find a running mate I can turn things over to after four years, but if that’s not possible or doesn’t happen, then I’ll run for re-election’.”

That would make Mr Biden a “good transition figure” for the Democratic Party, one adviser added, noting how the former vice president could usher in a young, diverse Cabinet and “fresh faces” after taking out Donald Trump in the upcoming presidential elections.

The issue, of course, is that the US only recently surpassed SK in tests per capita. In addition, because SK was so far ahead of the US for so long, SK was able to get on top of the epidemic much faster; understand the outer bounds of the problem; etc. They therefore didn’t need to continue to increase the testing rate. The US, lagging behind so terribly in testing, had the numbers of confirmed cases explode. This, in turn, has increased the need for testing, such that even though we are finally in the neighborhood of most first world countries, we still need much more in order to maintain control over the situation in some areas.

Sterling, Colo. Journal-Advocate

Logan County COVID-19 recovery plan faces challenges

TL;DR:

Gov. Jared Polis (D) asked the state’s health districts to come up with plans for phased reopening of business, which would have to be approved in Denver before they can proceed.

The Northeast Colorado Health Board punted, leaving it up to the six counties in the district to each come up with their own plans to separately send to Denver.

Logan County (seat: Sterling) county commissioners came up with a plan, saying they will proceed with or without the blessing of the state, and if Covid-19 flares up again they will have to consider shutting everything back down.

Logan County borders the Nebraska Panhandle; there is a lot of traffic between Sidney and Sterling. A flare up on our borders where we have no real hospital capacity here would not be helpful to us, but that can’t get in the way of wingnuts only thinking about themselves and their money.

It can be out over training ranges or over our cities. So far it looks like this idea came from the military and was put out as a request to Trump, and draws from the existing budgets.

Even losing the war, they managed to impose Jim Crow laws that lasted a century. There might not have been a bloodbath but they have persisted and have in power now those who share their abhorrent views. The President and everywhere the GOP retains legislative power in diverse states these views reign supreme.

Military pilots have to put in a certain number of flight hours to maintain their credentials. The flight demonstration squadrons need extra flight practice for the precision stunts they do.

If they weren’t doing a flyover on the East Coast they would still be flying anyway.

The only issue I have with it is the “let’s thank first responders with an air show rather than the gear and money they need.” It gets a lot of television coverage (look, kewl aeroplanes) and bumps “people are dying in New York and New Jersey” out of the news for a cycle or two.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. —Attorney General Daniel Cameron filed a motion Monday requesting to join a Northern Kentucky plaintiff’s lawsuit against Gov. Andy Beshear, challenging his prohibition on certain types of interstate travel during the pandemic.

Cameron was originally named as a defendant in the lawsuit against Beshear, which challenged the governor’s March 30 executive order banning out-of-state travel, with the exception of travel for work, groceries, caring for a loved one, health care or when required by a court order.

However, the motion filed Monday by the attorney general’s counsel, Carmine G. Iaccarino, seeks to realign Cameron as a plaintiff in the lawsuit “because his interests coincide with” the plaintiff challenging Beshear.

“Here, the Governor’s travel ban impermissibly violates the fundamental right of every Kentucky citizen to interstate travel,” states the motion. “This being the Attorney General’s position, he should be realigned as a Plaintiff.”

Campbell County resident Allison S. Alessandro filed the original lawsuit on April 2, calling the governor’s order an unconstitutional infringement on the rights of Kentuckians to travel outside of the state, which is “a fundamental right firmly embedded in this nation’s jurisprudence.”

sigh…

It’s not like riding a bike. Any pilot who didn’t fly a certain number of hours, and do a certain number of takeoffs and landings in the last 30 days loses his license. Refreshing their skills and getting re-certified later costs more than if they’d just kept up.

And they’re not just for PR and recruiting; the stunt teams devise new tricks, to teach to people who will later use those same tricks in combat, to stay below radar, to evade missiles, etc.

Trump signaled the executive action at the White House on Tuesday, saying he planned to sign an order aimed at Tyson Foods Inc.’s liability, which had become “a road block” for the company. He didn’t elaborate.

The order, though, will not be limited to Tyson, the person said. It will affect many processing plants supplying beef, chicken, eggs and pork.

Trump’s order sets the stage for a showdown between America’s meat giants, who’ve been pressing to reopen plants hit by mass outbreaks, and local officials and labor unions who’ve called for closures and are trying to prevent the virus from spreading. The president himself has long agitated for Americans to return to work and restore a U.S. economy crippled by social distancing measures.

The White House decided to make the move amid estimates that as much as 80% of U.S. meat production capacity could shut down. Meat stocks rose on the news.

Liability is a “road block”.

Being responsible for protecting their employees is a ROAD BLOCK.

“To be clear: I haven’t filed anything. I authorized a letter of interest that was sent on my behalf to the Greens and I’m testing the waters for Green Party nomination,” he said.

I mean, I wouldn’t have seen him as a Green, but do we really need this bullshit?

Then again, I’d guess he’d be more likely to pull from Trump than from Biden, but still…

Jill Stein must be pleased with this development.

Trump attacked him, Birx just corrected his statistics. And his statistics were wrong according to every source I can find.

Stunt flying and parachute teams are funded by the recruiting budgets. They are out to impress the soldiers and airmen of 2025.

I don’t think he has that authority unless he invokes the Defense Production Act. The President can’t simply tell a business “you need to stay open because a shortage would look bad for me in November.”

He also doesn’t have the authority to override state governments, as much as he’d like to believe he does.

He is invoking the DPA and does this :

Trump signaled the executive action at the White House on Tuesday, saying he planned to sign an order aimed at Tyson Foods Inc.’s liability, which had become “a road block” for the company. He didn’t elaborate.

Mean he is going to protect Tyson from inability after forcing shiv worker to work or just protect them in general…?
