Today, impeachment manager Rep. Jamie Raskin read aloud the single charge against the former president, kicking off impeachment proceedings in the Senate where Democrats will aim to sway at least 17 of their Republican colleagues to vote to convict the former president for inciting violence against the government of the United States. #Colbert #ALateShow #Monologue

Biden ain’t wastin’ time no more…

The Biden administration is moving forward with the creation of a bipartisan commission to study reforms to the Supreme Court and the federal judiciary,” Politico reports.

re: #1 Dangerman

I’d love to see Biden propose and enact expansion of the judiciary - new circuits - new district court positions, and bringing the Supreme Court size up to match the Circuit number (originally, the intention was to have each seat on the Supreme Court match the circuit numbers but that fell by the wayside in the 20th Century.

just bracing myself for round two “son of The Big Lie” soon to be seen at an impeachment near us…

After all, if these guys can ignore multiple Secretaries of State, Established Media Networks, The Courts themselves to perpetuate this comical “belief” that the election wasn’t valid…

I’m guessing showing them on video, with their own words and actions will not convince them of any additional culpability either. What is likely to happen, is if the networks carry this, where an array of witnesses, compromising videos and a history of social media posts don’t convince enough in the mushy middle then I assume that Joe will have to get his administration to go into retribution and vindictive mode…

while I would applaud that, the long term repercussions if he does and if he doesn’t, aren’t going to be pretty.

“…and God bless you all.”

The obligatory catch line to so much wrong with this country. These fucking assholes had an “intimate” powwow to discuss how to waltz in the Capitol - with little security - and raise hell to steal an election. They were paid to travel, their heads filled with more bullshit after months of lying bullshit, some had tours to know what was where, then set their sights on kidnapping and/or murdering key people. All to bring Trump’s lies to fruition and steal the presidency.

And these MAGA dipshits that participated - they’re gonna start rolling over. They’re going to out what was discussed, and who said it. Where did the money come from? Who bought your goddamned lunch? It’s all coming out.

Everybody involved in this needs to burn. Every last one. Trump, Rudy, Cruz, Hawley, Boebert, Lindell - all of them. AFAIC, some of these are death penalty offenses, and not mere sound bites for Fox News to discredit.

Got first vaccine shot today. Registered through CDC’s VAMS website.

Filled out form online yesterday. Went to hospital site where they had a calendar to schedule appointment. Had all times open for today.

They did the whole thing in tents outside the hospital (which is just a few minutes from my house, so really convenient.)

Half an hour in and out—including the 15 minutes they have you wait after the shot. So far, no side-effects; arm isn’t even sore.

I’m not sure there’s a mushy middle in this case. If 20% of voters say they approve of this, that’s not even half of all repugs, and the “general” polls are showing around three quarters disapprove. And hardly anyone is undecided.

Is “of a police officer” a special circumstance in federal law?

Federal Law (18 USC 1111-1122) covers homicides.

Officers murdered while performing their duties under 1114 would be punishable as homicide under 1111. I’d say that it falls into the 1st degree murder with punishment of death or life in prison. You could throw in conspiracy for good measure if you want to stack the charges.

DC has its own separate charge for murder of a law enforcement officer: DC 22-2106. It provides separate sentencing - life without parole. It gets dicey because of where the homicide took place on federal property (Capitol Hill); I’m not familiar enough with the jurisdictional issues how they’d charge in this case.

This article covers the issues more deeply than my take. The tl;dr version: it depends, but it’s likely to be applied to at least some of those who participated in the insurrection.

I figure Jesus will have a plane if He comes back, though strictly speaking He won’t need it except to get and hold the attention of the masses. What kind though? I think an AC-25 would be a good choice. This is the fictitious gunship version of the Boeing 747. It could be armed with, well, nearly anything you want except heavy naval guns (and I know some of you would want them). I think auto-loaded 155s would be feasible along with an assortment of missiles. It could also have external MOAB racks for dealing with the largest Houses of Superstition in the Fundy-Industrial Complex. The name “Banshee” was suggested for 747 gunships some years ago but I think “Sky Whip” would be more appropriate for this mission.

Any time a Dem is elected, it’s going to be a fight to keep them in office since the 2020 election was “stolen” from a GOP.

Until that lie is exposed to daylight with consequences, it’s going to be the standard way elections are handled. Every election will be disputed, people voted in are regarded as temporary, and the lies will flow like water to alter reality and keep the dumbshits whipped in a frenzy.

We’re not even a month into Biden’s presidency. The GOP needs to die. The cable networks perpetuating this bullshit need to be bankrupted.

Had Trump actually listened to the health care experts instead of Jared, Atlas, and other know nothings, we would have seen Trump handily win reelection. And the economy wouldn’t have been as wrecked, the death toll wouldn’t have been as severe, and we’d be looking at reopening sooner because masking would not be a question/issue. Go ahead, drag this out forever. Make it an endless technicolor parade of conspirators and co-conspirators, and assholes ratting each other out for all the shocking bad shit they’ve done. Then convict and imprison.

Everyone would be doing it, including Trump’s own people.

If he’d had any ability to lead he would have seen past the economy and understood that people will rally around a strong President during times of crisis.

But his brains simply saw the equation strong economy = strong chance of re-election and he was not going to let a piddling little Democrat Hoax/Just-Like-the-Flu get in the way of that.

Years ago, there was talk of splitting the 9th Circuit, but the consensus seemed to be the only way it could really work is if you either split California or possibly make California it’s own Circuit. Splitting California would be a nightmare when the two circuit craft different rules/tests on issues. And making California it’s own circuit would put it in a weird position vs other states/circuits.

For what it’s worth, I agree about expanding the Courts. Especially the Supreme Court, expanding the Court lessens the importance of a single justice and thus the stakes of a confirmation hearing.

The objective is to steal home. I mean, long-term objective is to round the bases. We have rounded the second base. We can see third base, but we’re not there. It’d be a major theft right now to get into third base…

The vote meant something. The consequences do not. Now she’s a martyr, not a criminal. Martyrs are more dangerous than people rightly convicted.

Less severe than expulsion, a censure (sometimes referred to as condemnation or denouncement) does not remove a senator from office. It is a formal statement of disapproval, however, that can have a powerful psychological effect on a member and his/her relationships in the Senate (ha, as if! - emphasis mine). In 1834, the Senate censured President Andrew Jackson — the first and only time the Senate censured a president. Since 1789 the Senate has censured nine [10] of its members.

I think you could split the circuit based on states; CA becomes its own circuit, and the balance have their own new circuit. Both old and new circuit would start with the same precedential law - 9th circuit, and they can diverge going forward as with any divergence among other circuits.

CA has the population to support being its own circuit. It’s not even close. By population the 9th more than 2x bigger than the next biggest circuit by population.

Over the past several days, a handful of corporate stocks have surged to cartoon-hilarious price levels, as denizens of the website Reddit appear to be deliberately inflating them for fun. Nothing particularly special has happened to send these stocks, which include video game retailer GameStop and movie theater chain AMC, on their starward trajectory. It’s rather obviously a game, and the kids are having fun.

Some hedge funds, however, are losing a lot of money, particularly Melvin Capital. With malls closed, a retail business such as GameStop seemed like a pretty obvious target for short sellers including Melvin, who bet big that the company’s stock price would fall. But after ending 2020 at $18.84 per share, GameStop stock is selling for well over $200 as I write, with the price swinging quite a bit, as it is all happening for no reason. Melvin Capital has lost $3.75 billion and counting.
