They’re convinced that their failures are not because their ideas are bad, but because they haven’t thrown enough magic technology at the problem.

Most of the legit criticism I’ve read has been about uncanny valley & other CGI issues with it as well as the usual Disney problem of being shot-for-shot copies of the animated original. Did you notice any of that?

It is mostly, but not exactly, the same as the original. It’s the same plot but, for example, they cut the French Chef chasing Sebastian. Its a live action movie with talking birds, crabs and fish so yeah, there are CGI issues. I think kids will enjoy it.

not perfect, but hell, so little is, he provided a tiny ass fig-leaf for McCarthy and left intact the vast majority of the social underpinning that was needed for Vets and other federal programs that directly help people.

They claim there is no edge.Think of a snow globe with the Earth as a flat disk at the bottom. The North pole is in the middle and Antarctica forms the circle around the edge. They also claim that if you fly over Antarctica you exit one side and enter 180 degrees away. Like Pac Man does when he hits an edge.

I have been going through this series, and am enjoying it tremendously. I wish I had better memory! By this class, he is getting to the point between the end of WW I and about 1933. It is a complicated set of circumstances, with Germany, Poland, the Baltics, Belarussia, Ukraine, and revolutionary Russia, shifting power across the land of Ukraine.

I highly recommend the whole series, but this one is just especially educational, getting into times we have some knowledge of.

What about the House Democrats? Though it’s unlikely (if possible) they’ll unanimously vote for the Biden-McCarthy debt-ceiling plan - I’m guessing there will be a few Reps on the fringes who will vote Nay for the optics - that’s still a sizable bloc of votes.

Target pissed off the group with money by giving into those who hate, even though I totally understand why they did it (the workers didn’t ask to get involved).

Target was trying, but it can tough for a corporation like it to do something like that. We’re going to have to figure out a way to make them understand that giving in to the hate is harmful, but it’s going to need to be done in a way that shows the bigots that they lost. I just personally don’t need a woman’s swimsuit.

When I need to do Walmart type shopping, I go toTarget.

I found Target had great supply logistics during the Trump administration great toilet paper shortage.

Q: “Trump is the best US president ever.”

A: ‘He was great, it was the first time I ever had to stand in line to buy toilet paper.’

The folk who are pissed at Target for being woke, and then react to protect their employees, can fuck off.

One argument is a “spotlight sun” which is about as dumb as you can imagine.

YouTuber SciManDan gave up on religious counter-apologetics to focus on flat earthers, or “flurfers” to some. (Atheists will occasionally take on flat earthers because almost all are either Christians or Muslims and use the Bible or Qur’an to justify their beliefs.)

The oil companies like to play games here in the DFW area. Over a month ago prices at every location jumped 35 cents within a day. Over the next three weeks, they worked their way back down to the original level, and then jumped about 25 cents. They’re now down about three cents off that mark.

I commented the other night about the dumbass who would rather fill a couple of disposable coffee cups with lukewarm tap water because it came from a water dispenser in the gym than just get it from the tap in the room because we didn’t have any bottled water for sale.

Tonight was the flip-side of the coin: The lazy-ass who, when told that the gas station across the street has more and better variety of snacks and drinks than we do…admits he’s too lazy to walk, doesn’t want to spend the gas to drive over there, and doesn’t have anybody who can give him a ride at this hour.

You know when you watch those shows about some cataclysmic event that basically knocks humanity back to the Dark Ages overnight and how there will be massive number of deaths from starvation? Yeah, these jackholes are at the top of the list, because they’ll be dead in their homes for lack of bottled water or anybody to drive them a five minute walk to the 7-11 at the corner.

Even back in the 1980’s it was observed that AI was always something that would be implemented in 10 years (or more) in the future. Anything that had been already implemented as “AI” was quickly relegated to “Not AI” and as ‘trivial’.

I always viewed computational AI in my lifetime as a philosophical exercise. It allowed us to begin to understand a human problem and its complexity, rather than actually solve it or duplicate the human solution.

Frum is thinking that McCarthy did not have a caucus that could agree on any policy issues. So he basically went for symbolism. Biden gave him that in return for policy wins.

The best negotiators try to figure what the other side really wants/needs and how to give it to them in return for what their own side wants/needs.

Maybe not as flashy as burning the other side to the ground. But certainly more likely to ensure a successful agreement that both sides are committed to.

History is written by the victors.

You’re assuming the Trumpers are not the victors.

(Sorry for the length. Took some painkillers for my hip and they tend to drive me into a didactic mode. Hope you enjoy)
TL:DR The Trumpers are not organized to deal with a social structure more complex than Feudalism. And hierarchical Feudalism simply cannot be successful in the complex cultural environment we now inhabit, where IT requires greater distributed democracy to be successful. They will make stupid decisions because of bad information flow while we will make wise decisions, because of our enhanced abilities to deal with greater levels of informaion flow.
_________________________________

The Trumpers will never be the victors at the end. They simply are not organized to deal with the complexity of the modern world. Their authoritarian hierarchy is only as smart as the guy at the top. So maybe they could govern a feudalistic society. But not one designed to deal with iinformation flow in microseconds. Consequently, they cannot get the right information to the right person at the right time to make a wise decision quickly. So they keep doing stupid shit.

Over the last 300 years in these sorts of techno-economic battles (by my count we have had 3 major ones and 3 minor ones), the winning side always has more distributed democratic processes that short circuit the hierarchies and allow information to be moved rapidly, permitting wiser decisions. They use more of their diverse population to help make decisions. The losing side often forms a culture of epistemic closure, where everyone thinks alike.

The Colonials arguably won because their democratic information flow took days whiile the hierarchical British took months. The authoritarian South simply did not take advantage of properly using the rapid information flow that the railroad and the telegraph created (ie Grant kept in daily commuication with Sherman using the telegraph, the first time generals hundeds of miles apart communicated almost in real time. Meanwhile, Lee likely made fatal errors in Gettysburg because his cavalry was unable to provide him necessary information).

The hierarchies of fascist Japan and Germany relied on leaders at the top making decisions while the Allies pushed decision-making to the edges. So a group of 20 US sharpshooters, without specific orders, slowed down the German advance in the Battle of the Bulge, permitting the Allies to move the fuel dumps critical to Germany’s plan, using the Red Ball Express made up mostly of Black Americans. We may have been racially segregated but we found ways to use everyone productively.

Each time, history looks at the losers and wonders why they made such stupid decisions. The British made several leading to Yorktown. Lee at Gettysburg gave us Picketts Charge. The Japanese atacked Pearl Harbor without a declaration of war and then failed to destroy the fuel dumps in Hawaii. Hitler thought he could sustain a second Blitzkrieg in late 1944, even though the Germans did not have the fuel to accomplish anything close to what was needed.

This is a different sort of war but the underlying pressures are similar. And the losing side will again make stupid decisions. History will wonder why the GOP went apeshit with the abortion issue. It activated a huge number of people to vote for Democrats. Even some Republicans see that they have gone too far. But it is not stopping them, as some now go after contraceptives and even interracial marriages.

Now add in the environmental issues, a corrupt Supreme Court, climate change, COVID (ie Trump would likely have won in 2020 if he had just been even little bit on the ball here). The younger generations hate the GOP because of its terrible policies. They know diversity is the key to solving these complex problems facing us. They know that organizing a company based more on its social map rather than a hierarchy is a key to success.

The Trumpers could only win if America, and the world, collapsed back to a Feudal society. But this will not happen because we arlready seeing the new social organizaiton strucures that will beat their hierarchical structures. The victors are aleady becoming apparent.

For example, the so-called “woke” companies are demonstrating something new. They care about their employees than just about profit. Disney went against DeSantis because its employees forced it to. Target removed the LGBTQ+ materials to protect it employees from stochastoc terrorism. I am not saying the companies are perfect but they are moving away from the Free Market capitalism of the GOP in important ways. IT is driving the best to move power closer to the edges, empowering employees to make wiser decisions. It allows these companies to fully use the diversity of everyone to solve the problems facing them. Meanwhile, Trumpers want to restrict decisions to mostly rich white males.

Politics is a trailing marker for these societal changes. This period is almost done. The Trumpers simply are not smart enough to make wise decisions. Biden and the Democrats, on the other hand, are showing that is exactly what they can do.

In the future, IMHO, historians will examine in depth the organization of Biden’s White House.I suspect it will look very different from the incompetent hierarchy that drove Trump’s Whte House (ie a narcissist like Trump could never allow someone really competent to be in the room with him for long. Thus why he surrounded himself with nincompoops.). I suspect that in Biden’s WH, a lot of decision-maling power has been distributed outward away from the center, Biden loves not being the smartest in he room. And because of that he makes wise decisions.

What the Democrats accomplished in the first 2 years of his term was historic. Not only did they get a lot of progressive things passed but they did it with the smallest majority ever for an effective Congress. FDR, Johnson, and Lincoln had huge majorities in both Houses of Congress. I am still amazed how much he got done with such a Congress, one where the VP was a vial aspect of passing legislation by breaking ties.

Now with even less power, he has negotiated a bill that removes any economic hostage-taking via the debt ceiling until after the election. The budget is kept at 2023 levels, which is what would happen with the continuing resolutions usually seen when budget deals are being worked out. It is less likely the governmen will be shut down now over the budget. He appears to have expanded SNAP benefits, without having any large scale decease in the budget.

From what I have seen, this is one of the most amazing negotiations ever, since he was supposedly working from such a poor position. He has, I beleive, helped secure the Democratic Blue Wave I think we will see by taking these things off the table.

Becasue we know the GOP will continue to make very bad decisions. Many driven by a corrupt partisan Supreme Court and an even moe corrupt leadership.

And, Biden will likely make it happen in a bipartisan way!! He is even using the diversity provided by his political enemies. Amazing That is why we will win.

Some people show be separated from children (and society).

Mom Leaves Four Kids Under 13 Home Alone For 8 Days While She Travels Alone To Germany (Little Things, May 27, 2023)

On September 21, 2017, police in Johnston, Iowa, conducted a welfare check on the home of Erin Lee Macke. They’d received a tip that Erin’s four kids were left home alone… while she was in Germany!

The kids — a pair of 12-year-old twins, one 7-year-old girl, and one 6-year-old girl — said their mom had left for Germany the day before. She didn’t plan to come back until October 1.

It’s unclear why Erin traveled to Germany, or why she went solo, but photos posted to her Instagram while she was away showed her posing with a friend at the Walhalla Memorial in Bavaria, visiting the Regensburg Cathedral, eating bratwurst, and taking tours of the hop fields.

When police called Erin in Germany, she said her babysitters canceled last minute so she simply left the kids alone. Authorities confirmed she made no child-care arrangements for when she was overseas. Police Lt. Tyler Tompkins said he’d never seen or heard of a case like this before.

Police ordered Erin to fly home immediately, but she ended up cutting her trip short by only four days! She was then arrested and charged with four counts of child endangerment.

Ahh. But COVID has started us on a path to finally move vaccine development into the 21st century (we still make flu vaccines from ferilized chicken eggs).

Technologies will allow us to create a useful vaccine in weeks. IT will help us manufacture and distribute them. We are on the cusp of an amazing period where we will learn to manipulate our immune systems to not only fight off disease but make cancer an inconvenience.

The point about Win-Win is an important point. One hallmark of the organizational success of the Fossil Fuel driven era of the last 100 years is everything is a zero sum. I win and you lose. Greed is good. Hierarchy demands this because if you win, I have to lose. It you move up the hierarchy, I must move down.

But in the IT era we are in, that does not create effective and successful communities. The ones that have been successful are those that find win-win solutions.

Currently Andrew Johnson and Buchanan both rank below Trump; but ultimately it will depend on how the next few years play out. The damage Trump has wrought on our nation will take years to repair.

Buchanan was basically a nonentity. IMHO, the only two who compare to Trump are Andrew Jackson, for his genocide against the indigenous populations of the South resulting in the Trail of Tears, and Andrew Johnson, who was deeply racist and worked to block Black civil rights after the Civil War. It’s a close call, but since Jackson basically founded modern American democracy in its embryonic form, and Trump tried to end it with a violent coup, I’ll make the call for Trump as the worst President ever; he is hands down the most corrupt. YMMV

I called the non-emergency number. The woman is a guest. The police got them to calm down and eventually she came in by herself and went to her room crying but not obviously physically injured. My guess is a breakup. Considering how loud it was getting, and the one time I went and talked to them, she was sitting in the front seat facing him in the driver’s seat back against the door like ready for a fast escape. I just had a bad vibe so I don’t have any regrets for calling it in even with my utter lack of trust for the blue.

I guess the rule of thumb is do not call the police in regards to a situation with black people unless the situation absolutely calls for an armed response.

178

So far, we got away this year with nobody at the front desk calling the cops. Only time I know of a guest calling the cops themselves was one that claimed their truck was stolen. We never heard anything more on that, but so many instances in recent years of cars being “stolen” in our lot turned up as being repoed that I wouldn’t be surprised if this was another case of a debtor getting caught because he thought they couldn’t catch his ass over state lines.

COVID Outbreak at CDC Conference Infected 181 People (Daily Beast, May 26, 2023)

More than 180 people have been confirmed infected since attending a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention conference—one that was held for the very same personnel whose job it is to contain rapidly spreading diseases. A meeting of the agency’s Epidemic Intelligence Service at an Atlanta hotel in late April was the origin of the mini-outbreak, The Washington Post reported. The event had 1,800 people in attendance, about 70 percent of whom did not wear a mask, according to a CDC survey. Thankfully, nobody has been hospitalized in connection with the CDC conference outbreak. The agency is planning to host another meeting at the same venue next month.

Remember, the pandemic is over.

Because they’re still trying to sway people into not seeking treatment for Covid-19. It’s why we still have so many people dying of Covid-19 now.

Some antivaxxers have moved on to pregnant women to convince them not to get the DTaP vaccine. (That vaccine is recommended in the final trimester to afford some immunity to a newborn from diphtheria, typhoid fever, and pertussis).

‘Murderers’ and ‘criminals’: Meteorologists face unprecedented harassment from conspiracy theorists (CNN, May 27, 2023)

These are just a handful of the threats and abuse sent to meteorologists at AEMET, Spain’s national weather agency, in recent months. They come via social media, its website, letters, phone calls - even in the form of graffiti sprayed across one of its buildings.

Abuse and harassment “have always happened” against the agency’s scientists, Estrella Gutiérrez-Marco, spokesperson for AEMET, told CNN.

But there has been a rapid rise recently, coinciding with extreme weather in Spain. A severe drought has shrunk water levels to alarming lows, exacerbated by record-breaking April temperatures.

The abuse got so bad that in April, AEMET posted a video on Twitter calling for an end to the harassment, and asking for respect. Even the government intervened. Teresa Ribera, Spain’s minister for the ecological transition, posted on Twitter in support of the agency: “Lying, giving wings to conspiracy and fear, insulting … It is time to say enough.”

The harassment of meteorologists by conspiracy theorists and climate deniers is not a phenomenon confined to Spain.

National weather services, meteorologists and climate communicators in countries from the US to Australia say they’re experiencing an increase in threats and abuse, often around accusations they are overstating, lying about or even controlling the weather.

That certainly seems to be the intent, to argue that doctors have some dark and sinister (or at least embarrassing) secret reason for putting so many patients on ventilators in the spring of 2020 that they are going to great lengths to avoid admitting to the public. The overall effort being to suggest that the medical community rushes to do things that ultimately are harmful, is slow to catch on, and then hides the “truth” rather than admitting something that could embarrass them if not lead to litigation.

Chair of NC Baptist Children’s Homes resigns after arrest for animal cruelty (Religion News Service, May 26, 2023)

(RNS) — Southern Baptists have been dogged by leadership scandals for years.

Now they have a different kind of abuse scandal on their hands.

A Baptist leader in North Carolina resigned this week after he and his wife were charged earlier this month with three counts of felony animal cruelty and a misdemeanor offense of communicating threats.

James David “Jim” Goldston III, 71, and his wife, Agnes, 73, are accused of poisoning their neighbor’s three dogs. Two of the dogs, Labrador retrievers, died. A veterinarian confirmed that all three dogs were poisoned, according to the Wake County Sheriff’s Office.

Goldston had been chairman of the board of trustees for the Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina, a well-known faith-based nonprofit. He was also a board member of an animal rescue organization.

The Goldstons are also accused of threatening their neighbor. A handwritten letter tossed into their neighbor’s yard read “Your Daughter is Next. B Careful,” arrest warrants obtained by The News & Observer newspaper showed.

That was a new one. Guest apparently checked in in the middle of the night last night, came by to ask how late they could stay without getting charged for an extra day. Told him that after 11am (i.e. normal checkout) that we charge for a late check-out, after which he tries to explain that he and the family wanted to take a trip to the beach and then come back to checkout. Told him that we’d have to charge him an extra day if they stayed past noon, at which time he tells me he thought they had a full 24 hours from normal check-in time (3pm) before they’d be charged.

Then he asked for a copy of his receipt and confirmation letter to take back to his room, I imagine with the intent of going over it with his wife to see if there’s some loophole that’ll allow them an uber-late checkout without penalty.

A vicar who was found with more than 22,000 indecent images of children and dead rotting animals in his home is to be sentenced today.

Reverend David Renshaw had been the vicar at Holy Trinity and Christ Church in Worthing since 2018.

He was found guilty of 8 offences by a jury earlier this year - and was warned by a judge he faces a lengthy jail term.

The vicar, who smoked crystal meth and boasted about corrupting young boys, attempted suicide after the guilty verdict.

‘It’s life or death’: failure to protect trans kids at ARMS a systemic problem (The Graphic, Amherst Regional High School newspaper, May 9, 2023)

Over the last two years, Amherst Regional Middle School students, parents, and staff members voiced concerns to district leadership about adjustment counselor Hector Santos and current eighth-grade guidance counselor Delinda Dykes, noting that the two routinely misgendered and deadnamed transgender students and staff, invoked anti-LGBTQ prayer at school, allowed religion to overflow into conversations with students and staff, and failed to provide support to students who were facing gender-based bullying or intimidation at school. Santos also posted religiously worded anti-LGBTQ material on a public Facebook page.

This year, when Santos’s daughter Tania Cabrera was brought on to serve as the seventh-grade guidance counselor, staff and students told The Graphic she also misgendered trans kids, told staff that a trans student had reverted to using their legal name when they had not, did not report on an anti-LGBTQ harassment incident that was reported to her, and told a trans male student who went to her for support that she sympathized with his parents, who had “lost their daughter.” The Graphic reached out to Dykes, Santos, and Cabrera with every allegation and allowed them the right to reply; in three almost identical statements sent by email, they refuted all claims made in this report.

‘Bible-believing’ school guidance counselors placed on leave over ‘misgendering,’ ‘conversion therapy’ allegations (Christian Post, May 23, 2023)

Three Christian school guidance counselors in Massachusetts have been placed on leave after a school newspaper used anonymous sources to accuse the counselors of engaging in so-called “conversion therapy” and not using the chosen pronouns of trans-identified students.

An attorney for Hector Santos, Delinda Dykes and Tania Cabrera says the Amherst Regional Middle School (ARMS) student-run newspaper used anonymous sources — later cited by other news outlets — that potentially put the Christian counselors’ safety at risk by granting anonymity to the article’s sources.

Among the allegations: that Santos performed “conversion therapy” before school hours in Amherst schools, Dykes prayed against a so-called LGBT “demon” and “handed out chocolate crucifixes,” and that all three failed to refer to students by using their self-declared pronouns, according to attorney Ryan McLane, who is representing the three employees.

Book Riot, May 4, 2023

The Illinois Senate has passed HB 2789, a bill whose terms dictate that state funding from public or school libraries that remove books from circulation will be withheld.

As per the bill, the $62 million of funding that goes to the state’s libraries will only be eligible for said funding if they “adopt the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights” or “develop a written statement prohibiting the practice of banning books or other materials within the library or library system.”

Alexi Giannoulias, Illinois’s newly selected Secretary of State, first drafted the bill in response to the 67 book bans that were attempted in Illinois, as well as ban attempts in other states.

As to the cause of the increase in book bans, Giannoulias shared that, “All these efforts to curb reading materials have absolutely nothing to do with books. They are about restricting the freedom of ideas that certain individuals disagree with and that certain individuals think others should have access to.”

That’s why most of the academic world switched to machine learning, to separate it from the idea of intelligence. ChatGPT has learned a lot about sequencing words. It has not actually learned to form concepts about their meaning so that it can decide on the truth of a sentence it creates.

There seem to be emergent abilities in LLMs like ChatGPT4. Asking it how it would stack an arbitrary list of items on top of each other in a stable maner, for example (pick items that are random enough to have not been discussed in this context), and theory of mind reasoning.

If only there was a huge, stable fusion reactor that we could use to generate massive amounts of clean electricity.

Hans Christian Andersen was Danish, ergo, The Little Mermaid is part of the Nordic Cultural Tradition, ergo, all the characters must look like they are descended from Vikings.

That sums up every criticism of everything from LOTR sequels/prequels to Marvel Thor Ragnarok comics.

I went to get some stuff done in a video game I play with my son and my friend, and come back to a philosophical discussion on the state of AI. We can munge about with word definitions all we want, but in the classic sense of “artificial intelligence” as “machines capable of thought,” I believe the comment here summed it up best:

re: #131 Targetpractice

AI is always 10 years way, just like commercial fusion power is always 50 years away.

The various forms of so-called “artificial intelligence” today are simply algorithms that have built-in autocorrection factors, which can be adjusted on the fly by humans telling the algorithm whether its predictions were correct or not. These algorithms are very limited in scope, by design, because the further you increase their scope, the less accurate they become; the algorithm cannot balance too many variables when it is performing its autocorrections. Eventually, its outputs become useless, as over-training causes it to oscillate back and forth between extremes.

Yet another NOT A DRAG QUEEN

open.substack.com

The Church dismissed sex abuse allegations against a priest. Now there are six more victims

After the Archdiocese of San Francisco said a claim against Father Daniel Carter was “unfounded,” six new victims have come forward with similar allegations

Whenever we learn about sexual abuse in the Catholic Church, it usually comes with the understanding that justice may be elusive. In many cases, the abuse happened so long ago that the legal system prevents victims from taking their attackers to court. Some states have responded by reopening a window for filing sexual abuse lawsuits that had previously been closed due to statutes of limitations.

The Bay Area affiliate of NBC just published a remarkable story by Michael Bott, Candice Nguyen, and Jeremy Carroll about how the Church ignored an allegation of sexual abuse and allowed the priest in question to continue working, only for him to strike again… and again… and again… and again… and again… and again.

Their piece centers around Danielle Lacampagne, who told Catholic leaders that she had been abused by Father Daniel Carter when she attended Ecole Notre Dame des Victoires, a private school in San Francisco, in the 1970s.

The priest molested her. Once again the bishops played Pedo Ping Pong moving this molester from parish to parish as he molested kids again and again.

All rightwing politics is a grift, part eleventy.

If I was less ethical, conservatives would be my target.

You get the occasional grifter on the left but usually they get found out pretty quick.

I suppose the Texas GOP gave away the game when about a decade ago they put in their platform they were opposed to teaching critical thinking skills to children.

Texas GOP rejects ‘critical thinking’ skills. Really. (Washington Post, July 9, 2012)

In the you-can’t-make-up-this-stuff department, here’s what the Republican Party of Texas wrote into its 2012 platform as part of the section on education:

Knowledge-Based Education - We oppose the teaching of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) (values clarification), critical thinking skills and similar programs that are simply a relabeling of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) (mastery learning) which focus on behavior modification and have the purpose of challenging the student’s fixed beliefs and undermining parental authority.

Yes, you read that right. The party opposes the teaching of “higher order thinking skills” because it believes the purpose is to challenge a student’s “fixed beliefs” and undermine “parental authority.”

It opposes, among other things, early childhood education, sex education, and multicultural education, but supports “school subjects with emphasis on the Judeo-Christian principles upon which America was founded.”

Just waiting for this ass to run for Congress as a Republican and he gets elected.

‘QAnon Shaman’ meets fans at Arizona church after prison release

Over a hundred people gathered at Reformed Living Bible Church in Scottsdale, Arizona, this Sunday to celebrate the homecoming of Jacob Chansley, dubbed the “QAnon Shaman” after he was pictured walking through the U.S. Capitol in a bison-horned headdress on Jan. 6, 2021.

Chansley wasn’t wearing the face paint or horns that he’s famous for, but instead donned a white suit and American flag-themed tie and signed autographs on mugshots and T-shirts at a table as people lined up to greet him.

“Here I am saying hello, a couple years later, in a much more public way than I ever anticipated, and it’s really surreal, almost like a dream,” Chansley told the crowd, according to AZ Central.

Angeli was sentenced to 41 months in prison in November 2021 after he pleaded guilty to charges related to Jan. 6. He was moved to a halfway house and released last week. Prosecutors say that while he did not commit any violence on Jan. 6, he played an effective role in goading others to breach the Capitol building.

Speaking to the crowd on Sunday, Chansley said that, while he was in prison, he got closer to God than he possibly could have imagined and “felt God’s presence on several occasions.”

“We must not sever our kinship based on divisive propaganda, but instead learn to find what we can agree on and rebuild our nation based on those commonly held values,” he said.

The jail sentence wasn’t long enough for this traitor.

How did Chansley serve two years in the Navy and only make the rating of Storekeeper Apprentice (E-2)?

He graduated from high school in Phoenix, Ariz. His buddies at the Capitol insurrection threw him under the bus afterwards, claiming he was “antifa.”

Chansley believes a whole bunch of conspiratorial nonsense aside from Qanon: Bilderberg conspiracy theory, Masons designed DC along ley lines, the left is “occult” and you need God to beat that, you know, normal stuff.

In short, he’s a crank magnet.

As far as I can tell, he’s back in Arizona.

“QAnon Shaman” was released after serving 16 months of a 41 month federal sentence.

Additionally, all parties involved said that claims were untrue that there were exonerating videos later found which caused the sentence reduction.

Finally, Chansley’s full name is Jacob Anthony Angeli Chansley. He is also known as Jake Angeli.

*snip*
Due to Federal Bureau of Prisons protocols and his plea agreement, Chansley — who had served 16 months of his prison sentence — was transferred to a halfway house in Phoenix on March 28 and is expected to be released on May 25.

*snip*

Albert Watkins, the lawyer who represented Chansley during the trial, told us in an email, “The release of Mr. Chansley was solely a decision of the Bureau of Prisons and was based on the plea agreement, sentence, and the protocols of the Bureau of Prisons.”

*snip*

Emery Nelson, a spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Prisons, told us in an email, “Jacob Anthony Chansley transferred on March 28, 2023, from the Federal Correctional Institution Safford to community confinement overseen by the Bureau of Prisons’ (BOP) Phoenix Residential Reentry Management (RRM) Office.”

“Community confinement means the inmate is in either home confinement or a Residential Reentry Center (RRC, or halfway house). Mr. Chansley’s projected release date from custody is May 25, 2023, via First Step Act release,” Nelson said.

*snip*

“While we don’t discuss a specific inmate’s release method, we can share that an inmate may earn good conduct time. Prior to the FSA, qualifying inmates earned up to 54 days of good conduct time for each year served” and the bureau “pro-rated the amount of good conduct time earned for the final year of service of sentence. Under the amendments made by the FSA, qualifying inmates will be eligible to earn up to 54 days of good conduct time for each year of the sentence imposed by the court,” Nelson said.

It saved me days of fretting about writing it, should I turn out to need the speech. Here it is prior to edits by me except the XXs. I will, of course add some personal touches and change some words but what a relief!

“Fellow XX enthusiasts, I stand before you overwhelmed with gratitude and pride as I accept this incredible honor of being inducted into the XX Hall of Fame. This moment is a culmination of countless hours of dedication, perseverance, and a deep love for the sport that has shaped my life in positive ways I never could have imagined. XX has always given back more than I’ve put into it - and that continues to this day!

First and foremost, I want to express my profound appreciation to the selection committee for recognizing my contributions to the world of XX. To be counted among the legends and pioneers of this sport is truly humbling. I am grateful for your belief in me and for bestowing upon me this prestigious recognition.

I must also acknowledge the incredible individuals who have played an instrumental role in my journey. To my family, thank you for your unwavering support, encouragement, and sacrifices along the way. Your belief in me has been the fuel that propelled me to chase my dreams.

I would be remiss if I didn’t express my deepest gratitude to the XX community. This vibrant and passionate community has been my second family, providing endless support and camaraderie throughout my career. The friendships forged on the fairways and within the disc XX community are bonds that will last a lifetime.

XX has given me so much more than championships and accolades. It has taught me invaluable life lessons that extend far beyond the confines of the course. Through this sport, I have learned the importance of discipline, perseverance, and the power of a positive mindset. XX has taught me to face challenges head-on, to embrace failure as a stepping stone to success, to always strive for improvement and opportunities to give back.

As I stand here today, I am filled with a sense of responsibility to give back to the sport that has given me so much. I am committed to fostering the growth of XX, to inspiring the next generation of players, and to promoting the values of inclusivity, sportsmanship, and respect.

In closing, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the XX Hall of Fame for this extraordinary honor. This induction represents not only my personal achievements but also a celebration of the sport we all cherish. Let us continue to propel disc golf to new heights, embracing its spirit of camaraderie, and spreading the joy it brings to countless individuals around the world.

Thank you all for being a part of this incredible journey.”

He has been pretty coy about the actual assignment. Possibly because he sees a publishable paper in it.(Publishing in academic journals is critical to academic success.) Possibly because he may use this or a related assignment in other courses.

We make it sound a lot worse than it really is. There’s stress like any job, but most nights the worst we have to deal with is just general stupidity. No bat necessary, though I’ve thought about putting it up on the wall with a sign saying “For Use On Asshole Guests.”

Toward the end of my stint in the entertainment industry, my duties expanded to managing our recording studio.

One of the talents recording at that time could be demanding and a handful to deal with. (ya know he was an artist and was really talented)

So as a gag, I purchased a pipe wrench and had it framed enclosed in glass, and hung it in the control room with the notice: “Break glass in case of [talent’s name]”.

It got a good laugh, and the glass surface was never broken, but subsequently used by others for bumps.

My first was Pink Floyd Animsls tour at soldiers field. But since this is about Uriah Heap…

Alpine Valley Rush headlined the last show of their Farewell to kings tour. Uriah Heap was the opener and sandwiched between them was Sweet. Because of time constraints Uriah’s set was cut short after just a few songs.

The only objection, if you call it that, to the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid is that quite honestly, it’s really not all that necessary.

If Disney feels the need remake earlier films, I’d suggest going with films that had a great premise, but somehow didn’t quite hit the mark.

Films such as The Black Hole (that’d be great for a remake/reimaging - lose the sillier comedic elements and go with a more straightforward sci-fi flick with elements of horror). Or Dragonslayer…I’d keep the screenplay pretty much as is, with a minor tweak here and there, but just find a really good cast and make Vermithrax Pejorative (coolest dragon name ever, BTW) a seamless mix of animatronics and CGI for some scenes.

“Dear Lord, Why?”
- Austin Lounge Lizards

Sci-fi author Tim Boucher says he’s created 97 books in nine months with the help of AI.

In an article for Newsweek, Boucher said he’d used AI image generator Midjourney to illustrate the books, and ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude for brainstorming and text generation.

*snip*

Boucher’s set of novels are each between 2,000 to 5,000 words and feature 40 to 140 AI-generated images. He said the books generally take around six to eight hours to create with AI tools and then publish, but some can be done in as little as three hours.

*snip*

In February, ChatGPT was credited as the author or coauthor on more than 200 titles in Amazon’s bookstore. Some of the most popular genres were AI guides and children’s books.
