This is Beth at the peak of her creative powers.

“More than any record I’ve ever made, I’m more open to being myself on these songs,” Beth explains. “I’ve come a long way with healing, and I’m comfortable with my darknesses, weirdnesses and things that I’m ashamed of – as well as all the things that make me feel good.”

BAD WOMAN BLUES

Got the lips
Got the legs
I was born to drive a man insane
I don’t worry and
I don’t shame
Put it on me, I’m the queen of pain
I been bad
I been cruel
I’m not sorry baby, sorry for you
It’s my party and I don’t dance
Just want your liquor and your cheap romance

I’m not your mama I’m not your wife
I’m not the one who’ll make it right
Them good girls always lose
I got the bad woman blues
I got the bad woman
Bad woman bad bad bad woman blues

Got hips
Got the shake
I put the cherry on your chocolate cake

Don’t need roses or your pink champagne
I be the sugar rush in your veins

(Chorus…)

Sad as I am… it feels so good to be bad
There ain’t no love
If there ain’t no crime
That’s a rap
That’s a rhyme

I’m not your mama I’m not your wife
I’m not the one who’ll make it right
Them good girls always lose
I don’t pray to angels dressed in white
I’m not the one who’ll save your life
Them good girls always lose
I got the bad woman blues
I got the bad woman bad woman bad bad bad woman blues

Sad as I am…. it feels so good to be bad

I’m hungry. I’ve got a small bag of almonds in front of me. But I also want to keep the dog calm so that she’ll go to sleep. Just thinking about the almonds seems to send force waves to her whiskers. The first crinkle of the package and she’ll be in my grill with “so what are we eating?” I know almonds are a no-go for dogs….

I’m gonna do the right thing. Good night. off to a shower and bedtime.

(Oh, and so cool—I saw a shooting star tonight in the twilight around 8ish while walking the excitable girl!)

You don’t want to stick around anywhere close to a category IV hurricane. Getting out early makes driving easier (less traffic) and finding a place to stay easier (more motel rooms).

There’s a lot of overlap with victims that use both thc vape cartridges and nicotine vape cartridges. I’ve seen many of the thc vape cartridges that are phony. Yeah they come in a box and have pretty graphics but they’re still not vetted. You cannot trust anyone and it would not surprise me one bit that fuckwads are pushing poisoned cartridges. That’s partly why full legalization and regulation is the way forward. I have vape cartridges (vetted products) but I don’t much care for them so they sit in a pencil cup mostly unused.

Co2 processed oil strips all the flavorful terpenes out leaving you with a flavorless cloud that oozes lcd. Then, some add back shit flavors that taste even worse than the nothing they start with. Dabs are way too much work and George hangs too close for all the heat you have to use. I’ve had my volcano for about 10 years now and that, to me is still the best way to do it, with flowers.

Go read the statement by US Attorney Justin Herdman going after white supremacists. Here’s part:

Democracy allows you to test those ideas in the public forum. If you want to submit your beliefs to the American people and get their reaction, please be my guest. Keep this in mind, though. Thousands and thousands of young Americans already voted with their lives to ensure that this same message of intolerance, death, and destruction would not prevail - you can count their ballots by visiting any American cemetery in North Africa, Italy, France, or Belgium and tallying the white headstones. You can also recite the many names of civil rights advocates who bled and died in opposing supporters of those same ideologies of hatred. Their voices may be distant, but they can still be heard.

Go ahead and make your case for Nazism, a white nation, and racial superiority. The Constitution may give you a voice, but it doesn’t guarantee you a receptive audience.

Your right to free speech does not automatically mean that people will agree with you. In fact, you have an absolute God-given and inalienable right to be on the losing end of this argument.

What you don’t have, though, is the right to take out your frustration at failure in the political arena by resorting to violence. You don’t have any right to threaten the lives and well-being of our neighbors. They have an absolute God-given and inalienable right to live peacefully, to worship as they please, to be free from fear that they might become a target simply because of the color of their skin, the country of their birth, or the form of their prayer.

No you did not. My Silent Generation mother served in the Navy.

Scott Walker is treading on the territory of stolen valour here … “The Greatest Generation sacrificed for your rights.” He is vicariously claiming their sacrifice to claim she has no right to speak her mind.

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez is exercising those rights, and Scott Walker turns into a snowflake.

The conservative victim complex is so tiring. It never ends. They want groupthink for their ideas and no other is permitted; precisely the opposite of the Constitution they claim to support.

I imagine that the wholly-owned subsidiary of Koch Industries is still grieving over the loss of one of his patrons.

The new Tool album is streaming on Spotify/Amazon Music etc. now. Besides the 3 tracks we’ve heard by now with live tour recordings and the official title release a week or so ago, there are 4 short interlude tracks. They’re cool but I was hoping for more. Then the song 7empest (Tempest) comes through, and true to its name it stirs shit up and blows you away. Damn. I think it’s their best song, period. And this is coming from an Opiate/Undertow originalist.

The two live tracks they’ve been playing on tour are way better on the album too. Much tighter and more nuanced. Excellent.

But 7empest? Holy shit is all I can say. I miss the old pissed off/angsty Tool, but can’t ignore how they’ve evolved over the years. One of the best fucking bands EVER.

I have to wonder, are people inhaling the vape? I’ve been vaping for about four years now, and I’ve never had a single issue.

But….when I bought my first e-cigarette, I was told quite explicitly by the salesperson not to inhale the vape - she told me that you use it like you would a cigar or a pipe, as the nicotine is absorbed through the mucous membranes in your mouth.

Police in Milwaukee in recent months arrested two men suspected of selling drugs that included THC cartridges, some of which were counterfeit and sold under the popular Supreme and Brass Knuckles brand names.

One alleged dealer, Muhanad “Mo” Wardeh, was living downtown in the upscale North End apartment complex along the river, and in tandem with two other dealers, according to a criminal complaint. He was making $800,000 to $2 million per month selling THC cartridges, according to a criminal complaint filed in Milwaukee County in April.

Wardeh, 24, claimed he was a member of “the cartel,” the documents state.

A source familiar with the case told the Journal Sentinel the cartridges he sold had names such as Blueberry Haze, Sour Diesel, Tropical and Girl Scout Cookies.

As vaping-related lung illnesses spike, investigators eye contaminants

Some marijuana vaping devices, such as vape pens, are a fairly recent phenomena and among the most popular devices for vaping cannabis. The vape pens are a potential target for black-market sellers because they’re cheap and easy to fill with counterfeit substances, according to officials and industry sources.

Former Food and Drug Administration commissioner Scott Gottlieb, a harsh critic of San Francisco-based Juul, said he believes it’s unlikely that Juul — or other large national e-cigarette companies — are associated with the recent cases because the illnesses appeared to have developed suddenly and do not appear to be spread evenly across the nation.

Traditional vaping products could cause chronic problems, Gottlieb said, but these patients have acute illnesses.

“What’s likely causing the harm is something that they are putting in to make it easy or cheap to mix,” he added.

Some state health officials and clinicians are increasingly focused on contaminants in THC products.

67
Amory Blaine  Aug 30, 2019 • 3:39:44am

…One patient purchased his product from an illicit drug dealer. Another patient told Lamberty he had previously smoked marijuana but bought an online product and vaped THC for the first time about a week before falling ill.

In California’s Kings County, all seven patients who had acute respiratory distress syndrome reported buying marijuana vape cartridges from “pop-up shops,” said Nancy Gerking, the county’s assistant director of public health.

“The patients had switched from regular retailers to the pop-up shops,” Gerking said. The patients “found a difference between the potency of the products,” she said. “They had to use twice as much, so they were taking twice as much of the product into their lungs.”

This “company’s” boxes are all over the place.

Dank Vapes Is the “Biggest Conspiracy” in Pot That Can Put You in a Coma

Dank Vapes has a logo. You can buy Dank Vapes T-shirts. Sales of Dank Vapes products can be easily spotted on Twitter or Instagram or Medium. Inverse has reached out to government agencies, accounts claiming to sell Dank Vapes, cannabis labs, and members of the cannabis industry.

They all seem to tell a similar story — that Dank Vapes may be fake. It’s a black-market “brand” that has inspired loyalty online but comes with serious risks.

“They act like a cannabis company, but they actually don’t exist. They’re in the packaging industry,” Mark Hoashi, founder of the Doja app, which is “Yelp for the cannabis industry,” tells Inverse.

“These are just people filling cartridges as ‘Dank Vapes.’ It’s not a singular facility. It’s just people in their garages filling them and selling them.”

Day has broken over Dorian:

76
lawhawk  Aug 30, 2019 • 6:21:22am

Greets and saluts from the NYC metro area.

Looks like Dorian is seriously strengthening and slowing just as it’s about to hit Florida. That’s real bad news as storms push water ahead of it due to the wind fetch, and slowing down means more water gets pushed ashore. That’s bad for coastal flooding and storm surge, but it could weaken the storm since it stirs up colder waters from under the surface (and ocean water temps are a critical component of hurricane intensity/strength).

It also means that we could see a wobble in movement IMO. NHC is already warning that the storm will have serious weather impacts for days in Florida. Intensity remains likely as a strong Cat 3 or a Cat 4. Some of the models appear to be trending towards Cat 4, with sustained winds above 130mph.

Jeff Masters thinks rapid intensification is possible, especially if the eye becomes more clearly defined.

This storm is no joke.

In my classes, we read literature that has a political bent, often a liberal bent, but, let’s be honest, there ain’t much good literature written from a conservative point of view because creativity necessarily forces you into empathy for people different than you. And if you’re an artist and don’t believe that, you’re a shitty artist.

Today is Mary Godwin Shelley’s birthday. She was born on August 30, 1797. In the disastrous “Year Without a Summer” in 1816, she, her lover (later husband) Percy Shelley, Lord Byron, John William Polidori and Claire Claremont spent the summer in Geneva, Switzerland. The weather was dank and dark, so a challenge was set to write a “ghost story.” So much of modern horror and science fiction comes out of that summer. Polidori came up with a short story called “The Vampyre” and Mary Shelley wrote “Frankenstein, or the Modern Prometheus.” Here’s a picture of one of Shelley’s notebooks, and if you click on the link, you will be taken to the Bodleian Library, where you can look at pictures of the notebook pages.

The god they claim to believe in has told them what he will think of them, and it wouldn’t be pretty. Which pretty much proves that they don’t actually believe in that god.

RC moral theologians use a term called “practical atheist”. There’s a lot of them in pews.

Atheism really is the most logical response to the practice of the majority of Christianity, certainly the calvinistic & darbyite evangelicalism as exists in America.

I’ve never been logical enough, I guess.

As an atheist, I’m not sure I’d agree. I would say the most logical response for a believer in the face of many of the religous sects I see is to keep searching till you find one that makes sense to you, and avoid the ones that respond with “Who are YOU to question GOD?”

My beliefs, or rather my lack of belief, doesn’t come from a reaction to anyone’s beliefs or religion. It’s just that the Universe makes more sense to me with nobody in charge.

The other problem is that lots of people never get past the Jesus they saw in Sunday School at 5 years old and think that’s all there is. They never read the “hard passages”, never think about the consequences of (especially) sins of omission, and never have to consider faith as an adult does. One may need to be born again to come to the faith but that doesn’t require you to leave your brain and your conscious at the door.

My brothers describe this as “Sunday School theology” - your faith never got past the teachings in the church coloring books we all colored in Sunday School.

Nebraska Corn Farmers ‘Outraged’ at Trump

Corn farmers in Nebraska are “outraged by the Trump administration’s lack of support for the American farmer,” according to a press release by the Nebraska Corn Board and the Nebraska Corn Growers Association.

Axios: Farmers across the U.S. have had to cut costs, take up side gigs and go without health insurance to stay afloat during the U.S.-China trade war. The Trump administration has promised billions in aid to affected farmers, though an analysis showed that most paid so far went to the country’s largest and wealthiest farmers.”

Reference to the Italian neo-fascist Lega (nee Lega Nord)? Theyr’re part of the whole Euro right-ward rise, been around since the 70s.

re: #187 Rightwingconspirator

Oh yes we were. Else why deny?

Not necessarily. I’m assuming this tweet was written or directed by somebody with half a brain, though.

The US government did declare that they launched a cyberattack on Iranian intelligence capabilities as retaliation for the drone downing. The newspapers didn’t notice, but this is significant, both that the US is now prepared to use offensive cyber capabilities, and that they were used in response to a kinetic attack. In the US and NATO doctrine, cyber is now a full domain of war, where we can retaliate in one domain for an attack in another. The flip side of this is that the US (and NATO, and other Western allies), when victim of a state cyber attack, could take out the building where that attack was launched under the laws of war.

This tweet says that this is not a US cyber attack, and this is not an escalation of hostilities.
