John Mayer Live in Studio: “Last Train Home” (The Ballad Version)

I don’t think John Mayer felt like he put enough guitar in the original version, because this slowed-down ballad version has metric tons of incredibly tasty guitar playing. And it looks to this guitar player like he’s really playing every note we hear. Not to mention the soulful note-perfect vocal. Mayer at his best.

Well, Mr. Eastman you really better lawyer up cause you’re in deep shit now!

During the Jan. 6 riot, an attorney for Trump told Pence’s team that the vice president’s inaction caused the attack on the Capitol

As Pence hid from a marauding mob, John Eastman wrote to the vice president’s chief counsel: “The ‘siege’ is because YOU and your boss did not do what was necessary to allow this to be aired in a public way so that the American people can see for themselves what happened,” referring to Trump’s claims of voter fraud. The email exchange, in which Pence’s counsel, Greg Jacob, blamed the siege on Eastman’s “bull——” legal advice, is among a host of new details in a Washington Post examination of Eastman’s actions around the events of Jan. 6.

Man, am I sorry! On a tiny little level, I am doing the same thing for a database I manage for a nonprofit I founded way back in 1975. All of the lint and dust that has found its way into that database since it was digitized in 1980 is having to be cleaned up. Bleah.

Since I said that much, I might as well add that I have no experience in databases, and had to take this on when the dear friend and volunteer who had kept it all these years was nearly killed (and her husband was killed) when a semi-truck driver went to sleep and drove over the top of the small car on an interstate highway. So I just got into it a couple of years ago, and because of the age of the software we used (written by another volunteer), we have had to hire a set of Joomla/MySQL/php programmers to work out another set of scripts to display the database on a public website. So every comma has to be confirmed and explained. We started on this project two years ago, and I sure know a lot more about databases than I used to, but it is a scratch of what I need to know. But at least I can stay at home and cuddle my cats when I get too frustrated!

This gets back to the discussion earlier about reports that Eastman is having difficulty finding a lawyer to sit by him during Congressional testimony. There’s not really any good option in front of him by this point. It’s either deny, plead the fifth, or refuse to testify.

Friends-
This weekend I drove past Cook’s Garage restaurant as they were having
an event, and saw the attached flags display, containing at least six or
eight Confederate flags. Please post this as widely as possible to blow
the whistle on these guys.

Cook’s Garage, a yokel theme restaurant, has been featured before at LGF:
Lubbock Restaurant Under Fire for ‘Racist’ Vintage Neon Sign(12-20-1017)
They were also the rally point, and chief promoter, for a couple of gigantic pro-Trump pickup caravans that completely blocked Loop 289 around Lubbock last year.

Remember when the worst the media told you about Halloween was that you might find razor blades or poison in your candy?

38
ckkatz  Oct 29, 2021 • 10:09:58pm

I remember those warnings.

Per current warnings, I’m still hoping that a neighbor might pass out edibles. :)

Growing up, soaping car windows and tp’ing the landscaping on the night before Halloween (we called it Devil’s Night) was the big excitement. I guess that I was kind of mellow.

I am probably going to pass out candy this year. (Full size kitkats.) Although I have not heard anything about what others in the neighborhood are planning. I also usually give the kids a few so they can give them to their parents. (Who are standing in the dark on the street trying to look invisible.)

I did not do the Halloween thing last year.

Yes, that should enhance Halloween popularity. Although I suspect that most of the trick or treaters will be adults in disguise.

The danger to me on quiet nights is not that I’ll go buying stuff online, it’s that I’ll pull up some let’s play of a game I haven’t played in years and immediately feel the motivation to dust it off knowing I’ll never finish it. That’s how I ended up burning up 1/3 of my recent vacation playing Civ 5.

I spent today (in the pouring rain) trying to figure out why my window well was flooding.

The usual rule is that water in the window well, or basement, was previously on the roof. But the surface area around the window well looked dry. I ended up putting a submersible pump in, which kept the water down to about 1/2inch.

The three frogs in the window well did not look pleased by that turn of events, though.

Funny you should mention these vices…

After I dried out from playing in the mud and it got too dark; I spent a couple of hours playing Civ IV this evening.

And then went over to Amazon to order a hard case (and a spare generator) for the Coleman dual fuel lantern I picked up from REI last weekend. It just arrived because the rain that went through on Tuesday had it marooned in Brunswick, New Jersey for a couple of days.

I am replacing a 60 year old coleman lantern I inherited from my father. It sprung a couple of leaks and I have not yet had time to figure out what parts I need to replace.

The old lamp is probably worth about $20 these days. And the parts probably will run north of $50. And maybe $100… Sigh….

Reminds me of a lot of car restoration shows I watch. It’s not the cheap, readily available part that’s the problem, it’s the part that’s harder to find than wood from the true cross and costs about as much to acquire.

I have looked at Civ 5 and Civ 6. Both seem to require a large investment of time and focus to learn. And I guess that I am getting lazy.

Yes, using Nimoy to narrate things in Civ 4 was quite a smart move.

Based on seeing Civ 6, I have started looking at WarHammer:Total War, though. In fact I was just watching a video about dwarfs versus rats. I have not yet gotten around to playing a campaign, though. Looks like Version 3 is due out soon.

Civ 5 is a good game and isn’t terribly hard to learn, though you will quickly find out how unforgiving it can be if you botch your early game. I found that other the other day when I decided to up the difficulty level and quickly found the other AIs were eating my lunch before I even reached the Medieval Age.

Which I bring up because I decided after a whole two days of playing a single game of Civ 5, I would try my luck at another Firaxis classic and installed X-COM from my Steam library. And that is a game that will very quickly paddle your ass if you get cocky and foolish too quickly.

It can certainly be a rich man’s hobby.

Don’t a lot of these folks fabricate their own custom parts these days?

Back in ‘the day’, I remember scouring junk yards looking for parts for my old beater Dodge Dart.

Growing up in Pittsburgh, the climate tended to rust out cars within 5 years. And the crappy roads would then knock the parts of them.

In the 1970’s a 100 yard section of US 22-30 was completely filled with potholes. And was just behind a rise/ridge, so you couldn’t see until you were in it. I hit it and immediately bent a rim. So I pulled over and noticed a vast array of discarded car parts strewn across the road.

While changing the tire a guy pulled up behind me. He was literally driving his brand new car home from the dealers when he also bent a rim . And while we were talking another car drove past and lost it’s muffler.

A state trooper pulled up behind us to see what was going on. I just pointed to the field of potholes and car parts.

WaPo is reporting that in the middle of the January 6th insurrection, Trump lawyer John Eastman sent a message to Pence’s chief of staff blaming PENCE for the attack:

As Vice President Mike Pence hid from a marauding mob during the Jan. 6 invasion of the Capitol, an attorney for President Donald Trump emailed a top Pence aide to say that Pence had caused the violence by refusing to block certification of Trump’s election loss.

The attorney, John C. Eastman, also continued to press for Pence to act even after Trump’s supporters had trampled through the Capitol — an attack the Pence aide, Greg Jacob, had described as a “siege” in their email exchange.

The ‘siege’ is because YOU and your boss did not do what was necessary to allow this to be aired in a public way so that the American people can see for themselves what happened,” Eastman wrote to Jacob, referring to Trump’s claims of voter fraud.

We’re looking at a torn up basement because the prior owner of this house fucked up when they built a half bath down there. Now we know where the constant moisture in the garage corner came from. So all the drywall and plumbing needed replacing. Once that’s dry and we’re sure there’s no leaking, it’s time to paint and then reinstall the sink and toilet. Fortunately one of my husband’s best friends and my husband know how to fix this kind of mess so instead of thousands of dollars it will cost about 400. Still a lot for us, but I can’t complain. Florida, overall, is #7 in case rate and #7 in death rate. Explain to me again how Florida is doing so well? Case rate is not the best metric because many cases are not officially diagnosed since people may not have access to official tests that get recorded on public records.

Fortunately one of my husband’s best friends and my husband know how to fix this kind of mess so instead of thousands of dollars it will cost about 400. Still a lot for us, but I can’t complain. It’s always something around here. Another pro in the moving out of GA column.

My stupid insurance finally sent over the check for the repairs, and my contractor told me that next week (as in, a week from this upcoming Monday), we get our new roof. After that, I’m going to call another insurance provider and get started on the process of switching insurance companies. The full repairs won’t be completed yet, but hopefully the new roof and the contract will be enough to convince them to cover it.

It’s encouraging that so many people have accurately identified the weaknesses, fallacies and mistaken assumptions of the militia/civil war mob.

Incidentally, the all-out run on guns and ammunition continues unabated. Guns of all kinds are still in short supply, with ammosexuals apparently snapping up every piece that can be manufactured or imported even though manufacturers have had their operations cranked up to maximum for years now.
The militia goofs really do think that 40 or 50 guns will make them safer and stronger than 20 or 30. The same is true of ammunition, which remains in desperately short supply despite sky high prices. 2 million rounds are better than 1 million to these goofs.
Their biggest mistake, though, has nothing to do with weaponry: They think they represent the majority.

Is “Let’s go Brandon” the dumbest thing you’ve ever heard? I don’t get it. It’s like 2nd-grade humor at best. I will never understand conservatives. They don’t value anything worthwhile and they celebrate stupidity.

No. It’s a dog whistle. Saying something that seems benign or meaningless on the surface while in truth supporting a vile slur.

It’s code for, “Fuck Joe Biden.” A crowd at a NASCAR race started chanting the latter, and one of the announcers tried to cover for it by saying they were chanting, “Let’s Go Brandon”. So now it’s become a right-wing meme.

Speaking of this silliness…

Local gunshow. Half the size of the last one, only a small number of black guns - probably the ones that weren’t outrageously priced were sold last night. Only a small bit of the usual right wing/NRA propaganda. Nowhere near as insane as the Obama days or the virulent racism of the Trump days (though a couple of morans running around with big Mjölnir pendants proclaiming they’re “norse” racists).

But holy snapcaps Batman! The guns on the table were mostly way overpriced, the ammo was fairly thin on the ground and overpriced and no one was interested in buying except at stupid low prices. I’m interested in thinning out my safe so I had my S&W Model 13 (4” 357 magnum, CAI reimport from some overseas police force) with a fair amount of holster wear (classic carried lots, shot little) along but was in “rough shape” according to one of the ones who looked at it. I’m like, yeah right. But it’s not a plastic fantastic so no one was interested.

All in all, a waste of the $5 entry fee.

Interestingly, the only Henry guns in stock at Academy are the AR-7 and AR-17 “US Survival” .22 breakdown rifles. This is also the only Henry gun that would be of even peripheral interest to the ammosexual fascist mob. The other Henrys, classic wooden stocked manual-action guns for the most part, are nowhere to be found. I see this with a lot of “sporting” as opposed to “tactical” guns. I surmise that they are not in short supply because of high demand, but because dealers see no reason to order a slow seller for inventory when fast-selling black people killers are out the door as soon as they arrive.

I hate this stuff and I’m going over to my mom’s in a couple of hours and I know I’m gonna hear this nonsense from my brother. This is the second of the last Nascar race weekend of the season. Unfortunately next week the championship is in Phoenix. Fortunately Phoenix Raceway is 41 miles from my house (why yes, Phoenix is huge), so all that blather is a LOOOONG way from me.

Didn’t stop there. My aunt’s pulpit pimp played The Mister Ed theme backwards and swore it said, “Satan is Served by this Song”.

Part of this comes from southern crackers having babies with light-skinned black folk, and for the children to need to have a way of explaining their darker features. I think there are also a lot of fake portuguese for this reason.
