————————————————————————————————————————

Bet you’ll never see me fall again
After one of these
Though they’ll never break my heart again
The first one is on me

So I learn to love the chase
And to play the game
But don’t make the rules easy
It turns a suitable man invisible
Now I can’t see him but I can see through you

(See through you)

I remember when we were just friends
The grass was neon green
All this running ‘round and in the end
It was never really me

So I learned not to regret playing hard to get
But love can make me easy
It turned my beautiful man invisible
Now I can’t see him but I can see through you

Man, Invisible
Man, Invisible

Now I see through, see through you
(I can see through you)
See through, see through
(I can see through you)

But you’ll never see me fall again
(I can see through you)
And they could never break my heart again

Now I see through
See through
See through
See through you

Yes, plus years of genetic grooming to create seeds that will produce such large vegetables. This is mentioned in the article I posted.

He thought he was in peril from the Mueller appointment; he was quoted as saying “Oh my God. This is terrible. This is the end of my presidency. I’m f——d.” But when he managed to escape with no repercussions, thanks to Bill Barr and Mueller’s less than exciting report and testimony, he was confirmed in his belief that he is bulletproof and that nothing can touch him. So far, we haven’t yet seen anything to prove him wrong.

Breeding does make a difference but the plant still has to produce sugar (which it turns into other things), and that takes light. A lot of light.

the most plausible hypothesis I’ve heard is that somebody cloned his hard-drive (snuck into his home or hotel room or something, or maybe it’s as doable as when I see spies on TV shows clone phones if they get close enough), stuck a bunch of stickers on a same-model laptop, sprinkled a bunch of fake stuff throughout, then made sure to leave it at a shop where the guy working the desk is legally blind and can’t possibly identify who brought it in.

Eventually it ended up with Rudy, who made a lot of pronouncements about it, but when NYT, WaPo, WSJ and CNN wanted access to have their own computer expeerts authenticate it, Rudy wouldn’t let it out of his hands for a minute. That’s why the media didn’t think they could run the story.

So my linux box bricked on me a week or so ago and I wound up ordering a POS 200 dollar Windows 10 S laptop from Amazon (64gb storage with SSD slot). I put another fifty bucks down for a cheap ass 256GB 2.5” SSD and plugged that in - then I installed Linux Mint which makes this thing usable.

Check out the name of the volume on the SSD - going to spend another sixty or eighty bucks and buy one from a stateside manufacturer.

Oh, and the keyboard is UK English - British pound above the #3 - double quote above the #2. I set it for US English as I don’t look at the keys anyway.

Now to get my Citrix client to work for the bank so I can use this machine when I’m on the road…or I carry the Thinkpad Linux box when it’s not inconvenient. Oh, and I’ll have a new wordle streak. Whatevs.

I still did dual boot because I really don’t need all 64 gb for Linux. 50 is plenty. The 256 is for storing pictures of my dogs and music and shit.

On the Coast of British Columbia, Ancient Stewardship Gets a Modern Spin
From tracking rare spirit bears to responding to disasters, First Nations coastal guardians are on watch.
atlasobscura.com

Here in the Great Bear Rainforest—a vast region of old-growth forest and icy fjords that harbor iconic animals including wolves, whales, and ghostly spirit bears—hands-on stewardship has always been a way of life for the Indigenous people who call it home. Now, thanks to a new co-management agreement with British Columbia, the first time a Canadian government has shared authority with any First Nation, that stewardship will have an even greater impact.

Good stuff. We are progressing, in some ways.

Yeah, Win10S is crippled on purpose and is really only suitable on a machine that needs to be locked down, like a kid’s machine, but it ends up installed in the lowest-cost Windows machines (usually the low-end laptops and tablets from Walmart and such) because the OEM licenses from Microsoft are much less expensive than even the Home versions.

An anti-gay bigot’s company town has a racism problem. Shocking.

Sadly, this jackass has been very successful.

FAYETTEVILLE, Georgia — In 2013, Dan Cathy, the 69-year-old billionaire who leads his family’s fast-food empire, Chick-fil-A, saw hundreds of acres of wheat fields near where he grew up and had a vision.

At the time, the Atlanta area was becoming the Hollywood of the South thanks to massive tax breaks from state lawmakers, and Cathy was working with the UK-based Pinewood Studios to turn the land 30 miles south of downtown into a state-of-the-art production complex. As the studio grew, landing massive clients like Disney’s Marvel Studios, he and a team of developers planned a new kind of company town alongside it — a quaint but diverse community modeled after European villages to draw artists and entertainment industry players to the suburbs.

“We’ve been very careful to envision a community that will attract a wide spectrum of people, that will inspire folks to live well, and to honor others. I believe this is the model for future generations,” Cathy said in 2016.
By 2017, what was then called Pinewood Atlanta Studios had become the second-largest studio in the US — behind only Burbank, California’s Warner Bros. — creating unprecedented opportunities for Georgia to attract major shoots, according to a state Senate report about its exploding entertainment industry. Pinewood Atlanta’s 18 stages were consistently booked, former employees told BuzzFeed News, and parts of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame were filmed there. In 2019, Cathy’s family trust bought out Pinewood, rebranding it as Trilith, a nod to its three pillars of “storytelling, purpose-built places, and emerging technology.” The studio has since grown to 24 stages and signed a five-year contract with Marvel Studios — recent productions include Disney+’s Ms. Marvel miniseries. Netflix also built its Love Is Blind pods on-site, shooting scenes from both seasons there.

“He wants to build an engine equal to Disney, and no one is going to question that,” one former studio executive told BuzzFeed News. “Chick-fil-A runs this town. Everyone trusts what Dan Cathy says.”

Trilith Promised A New Model For Hollywood In The Atlanta Suburbs, But Black Residents And Former Employees Say Racism Lies Just Below The Surface (Buzzfeed)

So Trump demanded the search warrant released figuring it would show the FBI ginned up an excuse to “raid” MAL and instead showed he was being investigated for espionage, obstruction of justice, and violating the PRA.

Then he demanded they release the probable cause affidavit in a transparent attempt to figure out who’d ratted him out, only for the (admittedly greatly redacted) affidavit to show that he’d taken nearly 200 highly classified files with him to MAL when he ran from the WH last year.

Now he’s trying to stall for time by demanding a “special master” appointed on the laughably ridiculous claim that privileged documents were taken from MAL, only for the DOJ to file a response not only detailing how he’s been lying to their faces for months, but that the reason they grabbed his passports was because they were sitting in the same desk drawer as classified docs containing HUMINT. Why is the part about the desk important? Because alongside the lie that all the documents the NARA sought had been turned over, the paperwork Trump’s lawyer signed also included a passage that no classified documents were kept anywhere on the property but the storage room.

At this point, I can only assume his next cunning plan will be to threaten to sue Merrick Garland if he doesn’t immediately end the investigation, return all the classified documents, and issue a public apology for hurting Donny’s fee-fees.

Honestly, with the way Trump has acted so far, it really seems like he thought he was up against James Comey again and he could just keep poking the bear all he liked because the only response would be a terse “We don’t discuss ongoing investigations” when the press asked if he was full of shit or not. He’s been caught totally off-guard by a DOJ that is willing to keep calling his bluff and tell the public just how full of shit he really is.

Hello nightmares, you are welcome!

An Australian shopper and her husband stumbled upon a bizarre Sylvester Stallone movie prop on sale for nearly $4,000 in an antique store.

Ceramicist Bae Bellingham was antiquing with her husband in Katoomba, New South Wales, when she discovered the naked latex replica of Stallone in the store’s basement, Newsweek reported.

“My husband and I were away for a couple of nights in Katoomba,” said Bellingham. “It’s a kooky village and the Katoomba Vintage Emporium is probably their kookiest antique store. Downstairs I took a picture of a weird screaming doll, and thought ‘yep, that’s the weirdest find of the day.’ “

The advantage of being a completely open hell-bound Mammon cultist heretic like Graham is that your followers are as evil and dishonest as you are, and admire your audacious assault on the truth as a sign of power. A more conventional hell-bound pulpit pimp, otoh, must contend with the possibility that at least some followers are honest, though very stupid, and just might be so naive as to be offended by excessively brazen lying and grift.

For that matter, there are people (though not Cheeto) who could swim from Little Diomede island (U.S.A) to Big Diomede (Russia), 2.2 miles away. It would take a good insulated wetsuit, though, since the water temperature is essentially freezing all the time.

During the Cold War, the section of the border between the U.S. and the USSR separating Big and Little Diomede became known as the “Ice Curtain”. In August 1987, however, Lynne Cox swam from Little Diomede to Big Diomede (approx. 2.2 miles (3.5 km)) and was congratulated jointly by Mikhail Gorbachev and Ronald Reagan.

I can’t read the article, that website just gives me the headline then offers up a bunch of other headlines.

Breeding does make a difference but the plant still has to produce sugar (which it turns into other things), and that takes light. A lot of light.

from the article:

Marshall said Cookie Monster might be bigger with “a couple more days of sun” and a late summer “not raining every day for six weeks.”

“If it got a little more daylight, it could have been bigger,” he said. “Yeah, a little more photosynthesis and a little more sunlight (would help).”

But given the pumpkin’s size, he added, “you’d have to say (the rain) didn’t hurt.”Marshall grew his pumpkins in a 700-square-foot greenhouse, and planted Cookie Monster on June 4, making it 86 days old. Before he harvested it, he said the vine was over 65 feet long. Marshall said he watered the pumpkin with between 25 and 75 gallons of water daily, adjusting for rainfall.

re: #127 Dave In Austin

Every American should see that cache of stolen classified information. They should be demanding that the FBI and DOJ arrest Trump, just as surely as they would arrest someone like Hansen or the Rosenbergs.

Trump was caught red handed with national security information he had no business possessing. Trump remains a national security threat and the DOJ must indict and prosecute. Perp walking is absolutely essential to protecting democracy and US national security.

Who cares if the GOP with caterwaul if that happens. They’re the law and order party. They’re the ones who made it a felony punishable for up to 5 years in prison for mishandling classified info. Those SCI documents were being kept in an unsecure facility in Trump’s desk drawer. That’s about as unsecure as any place on the planet.

This isn’t 3 documents out of 30,000 that were on a secure private service that were classified after the fact as happened with Clinton and DOJ, FBI, and Congress found nothing to suggest charging. It was all innuendo and distraction from Trump crimes ongoing in 2016/2017/2018/2019/2020/2021.

Same with Hunter’s laptop. There was no classified information involved. It’s all innuendo, and the more Fox focuses on Hunter’s laptop, the more you know that Trump stole and mishandled classified information and engaged in still more crimes to cover up the earlier crimes.

Had anyone else been caught in a similar fashion, the search warrant would have turned into a perp walk for all those involved and who had access to Trump’s office. Because you know damned sure that everyone else in Trump’s inner circle had access, and the means to view/copy/transmit those documents to others.

The GOP continues to cover up for Trump crimes, no matter the crime he engaged in.

When the GOP talks about crimes in cities or states run by Democrats, they are desperate to distract and deflect from Trump’s one man crime spree that was aided and abetted by a criminal and corrupt GOP. They are all coconspirators in undermining US natsec. They’re all coconspirators in trying to end democracy and install a fascist regime in the WH under Trump.

Gun violence is higher in red states on per capita basis. Gun death rates are higher in red states on per capita basis. Easy availability of guns makes that happen.

GOP doesn’t care about gun violence any more than it cares about health care or covid or infrastructure. GOP led states do worse on pretty much every aspect - education, life expectancy, per capita death rates from covid, infrastructure scores, etc.

It’s no secret why - the GOP treasures tax cuts more than any other thing on the planet. They want tax cuts to help millionaires and don’t care how much of the burden goes to everyone else. It’s why the GOP seeks to end Social Security, gut the safety net, and undermine education funding, housing assistance, disaster aid, and all the rest.

It’s all money that the GOP thinks should end up in the pockets of millionaires like Trump.

Fuck ‘em. And DOJ must indict and perp walk Trump and his cronies.

That’s not politicizing the DOJ. That’s the DOJ doing its fucking job and holding the rule of law sacrosanct. What they’re doing now in delaying the indictments is denying equal justice under the law.

And I mean, the response to the talking point is obvious and can be given instantly, but that’s not the point. The point is to give the rubes some fodder for their confirmation bias. Gotta keep the cult members well-fed.

On that topic, actually, I saw an interesting Twitter thread I may go back and find again. Apparently, the Cult of Trump (and other cults like it) don’t just feed off confirmation bias; there is a dopamine-triggered response to “being right” - that is, successfully predicting something that someone else confirms for you. However, that response has diminishing returns, as most dopamine responses do. That means that if, for example, a Fox News viewer starts to get TOO good at predicting what they’re going to say next, they get bored; the dopamine stops flowing, and they need to find a new and less predictable source of confirmation bias to feed their dopamine addiction. It’s apparently at its strongest with a 50/50 mix of “correct” and “incorrect” predictions. This is how people who get started on conspiracy woo get sucked into the vortex; their dopamine-addicted brains are continually moving on to ever more wacked-out sources, in order to find new ways to reinforce their beliefs.

4) She cooperated immediately and fully by turning over the entire physical server for them to go through;

I knew Feebay’s new pay out system was the subject of a lot of complaints but I had no idea it is as bad it is. I tried listing some model kits on Ebay for the first time in about 3 years. All 3 of them sold. Buyers paid a total of $91.06. My net from that is $29.50. For real, I only get a third of what was paid for my goods. Part of that (about $18) is legit, for shipping expenses. The rest is a blizzard of Feebay grift, bullshit, and hidden charges: listing charges, advertising charges, extra advertising and promotion charges, etc. On one sale, I ended up owing Feebay $1.47 for the privilege of giving my model kit away, and having to pack and mail it myself.
Oh, by the way, I have to wait a week to get paid my pittance, and that is after they finish “processing” the buyer’s payment, which will take Cthulhu only knows how long.

Lost in all the sauce about Trump going down for espionage is that his attorney, Christina Bobb, is in over her head in the proverbial shit, as well. She signed an affidavit stating that there were no documents matching the DOJ subpoena left at Mar-a-Lago, nor any copies, after a “diligent search”; and then the DOJ came and took a bunch of stuff that, wouldn’t you know it, matched the subpoena. The feds are not going to take kindly to the fact that she, at the very least, did not do her due diligence before signing the affidavit; at the most, it’s willful obstruction of justice.

In other news, Gorbachev is dead at 91. Led the end of the Soviet Union. His efforts to keep it on life support failed, especially after his disastrous handling of Chernobyl disaster.

He recognized the need for reform, he just underestimated his nation’s ability to undertake what was necessary.

While this is what we all want - and you could sell tickets to this event - it’s not going to go down like that. Trump will be afforded an opportunity to quietly turn himself in; if he declines, it’ll either be house arrest, or he will be seen leaving Mar-a-Lago in the company of two nondescript men, in one of his limousines, which will turn out to be driven by a federal agent.

Frankly, I expect he won’t even have to make an appearance at the courthouse for his arraignment; they will allow him to appear remotely, due to his status as ex-president. But I have no doubt now that he will be indicted on multiple felony charges that should land him in prison for the rest of his life, or until a future president commutes his sentence “so the nation can heal.”

They mishandled them, lied to DOJ about their existence, and were caught red handed.

Franklin Graham weighs in on the Trump search: “If they felt that he had something that belonged to the government, they certainly could have asked and he would’ve returned it.

ARRRRGGGH, THEY DID!!! SEVERAL FUCKING TIMES!!!!!

The other scenario at play is that Franklin Graham know this, but is counting on his supporters to be stunningly uninformed and locked in the Fox-o-sphere.

Corollary to that: my mother-in-law started ranting at my partner the other day about “I don’t know what the hell they’re teaching kindergarteners up there.” My partner was just like “I don’t know what the fuck she was talking about and I don’t want to know.”

We can only assume it was something insane Fox is reporting as news.

re: #147 Shiplord Kirel: Fan of Big Bird, Bert, and Ernie

GOD DAMN!
I don’t see how these assholes will stay in business. They are certainly going to do without mine.

yeah, I no longer sell anything musical-related on Ebay. I use Reverb, which after one slightly disappointing delay in getting a Rickenbacker shipped back to the seller, has pretty much been smooth sailing. It’s basically (as I recall) a 5% fee, plus I think 2.5% for the credit-card rakeoff. That doesn’t really bother me. I’m effectively paying a seller’s premium on what amounts to an auction site, plus paying a fee that they have to pay in order to get the banks to speak to one another and acknowledge the worthiness of the color of my money. Their shipping is pretty humane. I don’t have to pay UPS insurance because I use their own personal guarantee system, so if something breaks, the buyer can have a luthier fix it, or it can come back to me and presumably I can have a luthier fix it. I recently sold a Taylor for 999 bucks. I ate the nominal shipping fee that I’d listed with in order to make the sale. When all was said and done I netted 810 bucks. Shipping was something like 75, I had a 4 or 5% bump to get more eyes on it, so that was 50, then whatever was left went for the “regular” fee and the Paypal fee. I’m not complaining. I bought the guitar, with tax, for 1054 in 2018, so basically I leased a nice guitar for nearly 5 years for about 4 bucks a month.

2) She had clearance;
3) The documents were classified after she already had them on the server;
4) She cooperated immediately and fully by turning over the entire physical server for them to go through;

Ben’s not very good at this.

Trump stole and mishandled classified info by the boxful. There’s no comparison to the Hillary case.

And even if there was, let the DOJ go after Hillary- Trump tried, and both Barr and Sessions found nothing to prosecute because it only became a felony after Hillary was out of office.

Trump made mishandling a felony. Trump engaged in the mishandling of classified docs. He possessed them in an unsecure location.

Mishandling is just one aspect.

I remember a key moment in Catholic catechism class when I was perhaps 8 or 9 years old: The Monsignor came into the classroom and the nun/teacher kneeled down to kiss his ring. Even at that age, I found that gesture outdated, offensive and somehow un-American.

Now that the asset is likely no longer useful, I’m wondering what the next unexpected revelation will be.

This already is beyond what would have made it past a fiction editor so it’s going to be something like Orbán or Erdoğan setting up a disposable Trump lickspittle (Jared or Gym or Rand or Flynn or whomever) by inviting them over for a conference only to have drug-sniffing dogs alert them and, in the process of searching for contraband, they find drugs and confidential documents from the US and France or Israel or wherever they think would create the most chaos. Of course, Orbán or Erdoğan will solemnly offer to return the documents but they and Putin will just sit back and watch who nervously tries to leave their countries and who quickly quits the embassies or who suddenly goes silent…

I’m still wondering how soon the Cheneys knew about Trump/espionage and whether this is the looming catastrophe they foresaw. Interesting that their split with Trump really started just after he left office, sensitive documents in tow. Nice of them to let us know.

Halliburton is based on Qatar, no? And Qatar undoubtedly has well-placed spies in Bonesaw’s entourage. Halliburton would then tell Darth. (that Darth, not “our” Darth. Although really, for all we know, they could be the same guy).

As for the Cheneys telling us… I choose to believe they have (and disclosed to) close, trusted friends at NSA and CIA. That’s more important than telling you and me.

The Daily Beast has obtained audio from a campaign event earlier this year where Pennsylvania U.S. Senate candidate Mehmet Oz (R) staked out his most extreme position on abortion yet, telling voters he believes abortion at any stage of development is “still murder,” including from the moment of conception.

Said Oz: “I do believe life starts at conception, and I’ve said that multiple times If life starts at conception, why do you care what age the heart starts beating at? It’s, you know, it’s still murder, if you were to terminate a child whether their heart’s beating or not.”

all killing is not murder
using the word ‘killing’ one day after conception is still awfully charitable by itself

We don’t know what would have happened because the pandemic response team would have detected the virus well before it became a pandemic and would have taken serious measures early to combat it. Maybe it never would have evolved into a pandemic. OTOH, given how even the original strain was mild for most of those infected, it could still have spread worldwide before it could be stopped.

This position didn’t come out of nowhere. Trump has been attacking the FBI and DOJ for years precisely for this reason—so when compelling evidence of his criminal activity was made public, his base wouldn’t trust law enforcement.

Remember that 45py claimed in 2016 that he had actually won the popular vote as well, Hillary’s nearly 3-million-vote lead was the result of voter fraud and manipulation. A claim which was never verified or proven or found to have any substantial basis in fact.

But he knew that it would come in useful in preparing for the next election…

I was just thinking something. Is it possible that some (most?) of the documents were at MAL during Dump’s presidency, not just after it? I haven’t heard anyone bring this up.

Most likely because the current “Trump Document Flap”(tm) relates to material which the Government (I.e. DOJ, FBI) knows to have been removed from the WH/Presidential Office during January of 2021and subsequently transported to Mar-a-Lago (improperly removed, insecurely transported and stored, and illegally retained, but never mind for now) - and which return the G had already requested. And wrt which they were lied to by Trump/Trump’s people about said return. Which lie, once found out, prompted the Great Raid and its associated vaporings.
IMO, it’s a vanishingly unlikely probability that what was in the 15 (or however many) “Mar-a-Lago boxes” was the ONLY classified material Trump and/or his creatures mishandled (criminally or otherwise) during his tenure, but the present lot seem to be the only ones that have had the proper - literal - paper trail to go after. For now, anyway,

Interesting data point.

I got an email from a small ammo sales company out of Oklahoma. I like buying from them because it’s a family business and they don’t blat obviously right wing stupidity.

Anyway they’re doing an inventory reduction sale on 9mm, 5.56 and other gun nut hoarder calibers which implies demand is down despite the GOFPs and Mango Moron’s attempts to invite.

Pity I don’t have the money to take advantage of it…

Why is Chaya Raichik still allowed to post on Twitter, never mind being not in jail.

Because it is not in Twitter’s interest to shut down any of this “controversial” stuff. It drives clicks, it gets ad revenues, it makes them money, and right now, there’s no law against it to force them to act against their financial interests. (I doubt the feasibility of crafting such a law that does not run afoul of the First Amendment.) The only way to get them to start taking this shit seriously is to start hitting them in the pocketbook whenever they fail to act.

How about .50 caliber. I got some damn deer invading my garden.

while not intended by abbott, this may actually be working out well.

immigrants are a valuable resource. NY and DC certainly think so.
and these folks came legally, got case numbers, and are simply waiting to be called.

they sure must be relieved to be out of a third-world shithole (sorry dem texas) for the relative safety and opportunity of DC or New York.

Lindsey Graham’s “riots in the streets.”

Lindsey G dreams of blowing Putin, maybe this gets him one step closer

I mentioned awhile back the immigrant mentality is different.

I have no birthright in this country. I had to pay and jump through multiple hoops just to get what some people have from their very first day on this earth. It was EARNED. Not given to me.

And so as a result of that, I feel obligated to work hard and contribute to society to justify my presence here and to validate all the work I put in to make it happen.

Many of the hardest working people I know are immigrants or first generation children of immigrants.

My favorite thing about the FBI photo is that it will always be referred to like this:

“I would like to refer the jury to the damning photo evidence designated as Exhibit 2A.”

Irony, yes?

It’ll drive the gunhumpers nuts.

Because she generates clicks ($$$) on Twitter at the expense of my Community. It’s going to take one of these children’s hospitals filing suite against them for allowing her stochastic terrorism on their platform and probably only after someone actually gets killed.

Makes me wonder what the parents of a farm family tell their children when a beloved pet dies. I mean, the thing was already roaming on a farm.

They had them more or less shut down for a few days and then let them back online. LOTT is doing her best to emulate KF and is waiting to openly brag about getting a transgendered woman killed or causing her to suicide. And Twitter will probably let her get away with it.
