Your attention is presented the title track from the album “Phenomenon”. The name does not mean the phenomenon of the OTYKEN group or its music, but the manifestation of the spiritual, true light in the heart of every person. In this song, we tried to convey the idea of the soul’s desire for the light that we need both in joy and in sorrow. We sing when we are sad and when we have fun. Human life is dynamic and consists of ups and downs. In difficult time, we need support. We are looking for someone to rely on. Sometimes true friends help us, sometimes relatives do. But there are times when we can rely only on ourselves and on the Almighty.

Perhaps the song “Phenomenon” will help you find yourself, believe in yourself and find a way out of a difficult situation. We present our songs to all people on earth. Thanks for your support and donations.

Listen to the new album “Phenomenon”. We tried to make all the tracks as harmonic with each other as possible, created a single atmosphere, sound, style and manner of performance. It was necessary so the album could be listened to in one breath as one continuous story. All songs smoothly flow from one to another. The album “Phenomenon” exquisitely combines modern genres of EDM, Rock, Pop, Techno, R&B with ethnic musical instruments, traditions and vocals of the indigenous peoples of Siberia. This music is for dancing, meditation, for the soul and vivid impressions.

OTYKEN group consists of many indigenous and small peoples of Siberia: Chulyms, Kets, Selkups, Khakases, Dolgans, Tuvans. This is the only multinational collaboration of indigenous Siberians in the Folk-Pop music genre so far. The culture of the indigenous peoples of Siberia has a close connection with the American natives, the Japanese Ainu and all Turkic peoples.

There’s a certain way to sum up modernity, modern life. It’s often thought of as a cliche. But while some cliches are “thought terminating,” as the internet likes to say, some are…true. Because they’re thought provoking. Timeless. Something like north stars. This one goes like this. Hey, you live however you like. As long as it doesn’t hurt anyone — it doesn’t bother me.
*snip*
When I take this stance on life, I am enacting the basic values of democracy. It is so, so crucially important for us to really understand and remember all that in times like these. Because more and more people don’t believe any of the above.

Instead, they believe something that, seen through the eyes of modernity, is truly and utterly bizarre. Hey — you. You random stranger, you person that doesn’t have anything do with me, you that I’ve never met before. I don’t think you should be able to live the way you want.

Republicans don’t have “doubts” about Ukraine, their “doubts” are that they’re prepared to support Russia over a Democrat. If Trump were in the WH and supporting Zelensky, you would not hear a single Republican questioning sending aid to Ukraine.

Trump’s former Catholic priest adviser hit with sex misconduct accusations

Inside the Unholy Sex Scandal Rocking Trump’s Ex-Adviser

Frank Pavone once chaired Catholics for Trump. Then he was defrocked by the Vatican. Now, women are coming forward to accuse him of sexual misconduct.

Frank Pavone, a defrocked priest who was formerly a Catholic adviser to Donald Trump, is engulfed in a sex scandal that is rocking the anti-abortion movement.

Pavone, 64, is the director of Priests for Life, a non-profit that funnels millions of dollars a year into the anti-abortion movement.

He is also an outspoken activist whose political activities have brought him into repeated conflict with the Catholic Church. In December 2022, he was defrocked by the Vatican after repeated clashes with his bishop over his use of social media to advocate conservative political causes.

Now, at least four different women have accused Pavone of sexual misconduct according to reporting by The Pillar. Pavone and Priests for Life have strongly denied the accusations.

The women, some of whom gave their accounts anonymously, accuse Pavone of inappropriate behavior in the workplace, ranging from unwanted sexual advances, non-consensual touching, grooming and lewd suggestions.

The allegations span a period of almost twenty years, from the late 1990s until 2018.

Two former members of Priests for Life have made public statements condemning Pavone’s alleged actions and calling for him to step down.

Salema Porgy

atlasobscura.com

After dining on this fish, your next course might be 36 hours of hallucinations.

In Arabic, it is known as “the fish that makes dreams.” This is no exaggeration. A single meal of salema porgy may contain a toxin that causes several days of vivid, sometimes frightening hallucinations, which scientists equate with the effects of taking LSD.

The small, golden-striped sea bream lives off Africa’s East Coast and throughout the Mediterranean. Ancient Romans supposedly treated salema porgy like a recreational drug, while Polynesians employed its psychedelic powers during ceremonies. The effects can last for days and may include “demonic hallucinations.” A 2006 study that examined two cases of men who ate salema porgy on the French Riviera noted that one man had auditory hallucinations of “human screams and bird squealing,” while the other “was not able to drive anymore as he was seeing giant arthropods around his car.”

Scientists understand very little about the forces at work behind the fish’s hallucinogenic side effect, which is officially known as ichthyoallyeinotoxism. Perhaps it’s the result of something in the phytoplankton they eat. There might also be seasonal influences at play: The 2006 study reports that levels of the trip-inducing toxin are highest during autumn, but most poisonings happen in late spring and summer. Further complicating things is that most salema porgy aren’t hallucinogenic at all, and those that are lack uniform poison distribution. The head is a common psychedelic source, but some sections are toxin-free.

If you do find yourself experiencing intense fish-inspired nightmares, remember: It’s all your in head. But it was all in the salema porgy’s head first.

the folks that track diseases and their origins are much more suspicious of the “wet markets” than they are of it being a bio-weapon. So the problem appears to be that in their rush to shut things down and remain opaque, the Chinese government didn’t leave much of an audit trail that would allow any kind of certainty.

The folks on the Right will use the theory however they see fit, depending on who they wish to bash, be it WHO, the CDC, the Dems or the Chinese, because to be fair, they don’t really give a fuck about how it developed as long as they can use it as a cudgel against whomever they choose.

I don’t think that anyone serious is calling it a bioweapon, but it is possible that a leak occurred. This is still an open question that could go either way. Though I think that the preponderance of circumstantial evidence makes the lab leak more likely than not. I would have leaned the other direction on this a year ago.

“Lab leak” is what MAGAts came up with when they were met with skepticism after they tried to accuse China of deliberately creating COVID as a bioweapon and couldn’t adequately explain why the Chinese government would infect their own population first. As far as they’re concerned, proving a “lab leak” will be the same as proving that China released COVID on the world and then they (and Dems) covered up the truth in an effort to hurt the US as a whole and Trump specifically.

They played a song they haven’t played since August of 2016. And it’s a song I watched them *turn into a song.* Long story. But for me, as a massive fan of the band, it was glorious and these fuckers keep drawing me in.

I already have tickets to three more shows this summer.

They’re playing three nights in Aspen in a couple of weeks, last time I saw them there was late winter 2019. It’s too expensive to see my favorite band in Aspen for me, happened around that time. Before that, I saw them play almost 20 times at the Belly Up Aspen, a small very groovy live music club in a basement right downtown, cap. 450. First time I saw Umphrey’s McGee at Belly Up Aspen I brought two friends, we all bought our tickets at the door and they were $25. This was 2010. It’s $200-500 these days. People will pay it! All three nights in Aspen have been sold out for months. Aspen is a 90 minute drive from my house, really bums me out I don’t get to see my favorite fucking rock ‘n’ roll circus play *so close to my home.*

Too easy to speed. I saw one highway patrol cruiser in over 200 miles - between Colorado City, AZ and the Colorado/NM border - writing a ticket for some hapless passer-through who just happened to get caught doing 82 in a 65, this was less than 50 miles from Four Corners.

If you saw what I saw yesterday you’d want to call in an F-16 airstike to the dam. It’s very near dead pool for hydroelectric power generation. This winter’s snowpack will definitely help, Powell will rise by maybe 15 feet come May/June. But that’s still 35-40 feet from where the lake was at it’s peak in the late 90s.

They think it slipped out on the bottom of someone’s shoe

Now that they feel vindicated that the “lab leak” has been proven, look for them to start demanding yet another round of testimony from Dr. Fauci to confront him with his “lies” about what really happened at the WIV.

I don’t think that anyone serious is calling it a bioweapon, but it is possible that a leak occurred. This is still an open question that could go either way. Though I think that the preponderance of circumstantial evidence makes the lab leak more likely than not. I would have leaned the other direction on this a year ago.

How many Trump appointees made that declaration?

Warren Buffet’s annual letter, with link to a pdf.
A snippet:

Charlie Munger, my long-time partner, and I have the job of managing the savings of a
great number of individuals. We are grateful for their enduring trust, a relationship that often spans
much of their adult lifetime. It is those dedicated savers that are forefront in my mind as I write
this letter.
A common belief is that people choose to save when young, expecting thereby to maintain
their living standards after retirement. Any assets that remain at death, this theory says, will usually
be left to their families or, possibly, to friends and philanthropy.
Our experience has differed. We believe Berkshire’s individual holders largely to be of the
once-a-saver, always-a-saver variety. Though these people live well, they eventually dispense
most of their funds to philanthropic organizations. These, in turn, redistribute the funds by
expenditures intended to improve the lives of a great many people who are unrelated to the original
benefactor. Sometimes, the results have been spectacular.
The disposition of money unmasks humans. Charlie and I watch with pleasure the vast flow
of Berkshire-generated funds to public needs and, alongside, the infrequency with which our
shareholders opt for look-at-me assets and dynasty-building.
Who wouldn’t enjoy working for shareholders like ours?

And doesn’t account for the fact that Trump first claimed China was doing a great job, and then claimed that they infected the rest of the world and yet Trump refused to treat it as a bioweapon. Rather, Trump purposefully chose actions that maximized harms to Americans, especially those in blue states in the hopes that it would damage those states and people permanently.

Trump and his psychopathic/sociopathic regime caused hundreds of thousands to needlessly die from covid. They’re still at it, and will lie and dissemble to claim that this is all China’s fault, when they had the ability to minimize the harms with masking, social distancing, and vaccinations.

None of the GOP states did particularly well in the pandemic. None.

FL has a far higher per capita death rates than most blue states - and the blue states with the highest per capita covid death rates are those that were hit hardest in the first wave when no one knew what we were truly up against and Trump/GOPers were doing all they could to slow distribution of key materials to blue states to mitigate the harms.

Had the nation followed the Washington state model of infection control, we might have saved hundreds of thousands from needlessly dying. GOPers went beyond opposing social distancing or masking, to straight up suing for the right to spread covid easily - and they’ve succeeded.

Greets and saluts from the NYC metro area. We’re finally going to see measurable snow overnight tonight, and it might more than double our winter 2022-2023 total in one shot - NWS predicts 5-8 inches. NYC has barely had a trace of snow. We’ve had maybe 2-3 inches total this winter. Nothing to shovel. Mostly nuisances. That changes tonight.

Heck, any amount of snow might more than double the total we’ve had to date. We’ve had a snow drought, as most precip this winter has been in the form of rain. That’s real bad for aquifers, that rely on snowpack to recharge over the winter.

It’s been awful for the ski areas too, as they just aren’t getting the snow or the temps sufficient to make snow either in and around the greater NYC metro area (even the Catskills and Poconos have been getting less snow - and you’re not inclined to go skiing if you’re not seeing snow at home).

Watching her interviewed on GMA. Wow, at 103 she is spot on. The love and respect the students show her is very sweet.

At age 103, Sister Jean awakes daily at 5 a.m. She sits up quickly to avoid going to sleep again — “I’ve got too much to do,” she says. After prayers for the day ahead, she reads the Gospel on her tablet.

“I guess there aren’t too many 103-year-old nuns using iPads these days - there aren’t too many 103-year-olds, period,” she writes in her memoir that will be published Feb. 28. “But I’m pretty comfortable with modern technology. I’ve always said, ‘If you’re not moving forward, you’re going to get left behind real quick.’ Adaptability is my superpower.”

In “Wake Up with Purpose: What I’ve Learned in My First Hundred Years,” Sister Jean Dolores Schmidt tells her life story, offers spiritual guidance and shares some of the lessons she’s learned.

I stopped doing inflationary comparisons even before that Austin Powers movie where Mr Evil demands “One million dollars” and gets laughed at. The amount is only relevant in the context of the period, or the plot. “Payback” with Mel Gibson was about a guy who wanted the $70,000 he was owed. Not more. Not less…and while the mob boss laughed at the amount, it was the principal of the matter - Mel’s character was killing his men - so no, he wasn’t going to pay him the money he owed him.

Regarding Covid -19 origins (wet market vs accidental lab leak): not aware of smoking gun evidence in either direction. SAR COV-1 started in a wet market, so it makes sense that that would be the first place to look.
Circumstantial evidence for an accidental lab leak:

No infected animals were found in the Wuhan market, just infected people.

Bats with similar Coronaviruses exist in the wild, but about a thousand miles away from Wuhan.

Wuhan lab collected virus sample from that area and likely was studying similar viruses at the time. I say likely because Chinese authorities cut off access to the viral databases in the summer of 2019 and are refusing to say what exactly was being studied; Wuhan scientists have been collecting and working with coronaviruses for many years and had numerous samples.

Although the Wuhan lab has BS4 facilities, much of the coronavirus research was being done using BS2 level protocols.

There’s been a lot of politicizing this, and the bottom line is that it’s still an open question to the western scientific world. Chinese authorities likely know the truth with a high degree of certainty since they likely know exactly what viruses were present in the lab in late 2019 and what experiments were being done. But for whatever reason, they’ve clamped down and are not releasing the info.

This assumes:

1. All animals were properly tested
2. There are no circumstances in which a false negative could have occurred.

In addition, it’s also possible that any infected animal (or animals) that had been at the market were no longer there by the time the testing was done. It WAS an active market (with animals being bought and sold regularly) for a little while after Covid had emerged.

Sure, but with SARS COV1, plenty of infected animals were found. A bat virus would have likely spread to other bats in the market. It’s very unusual (unprecedented?) for a virus to jump species and 1) stop infecting the original organisms and 2) be very virulent towards a different species.

Yes, they are excellent dancers; in great shape as athletes must be; and amazing entertainers as well.

Locally in the DC Region, wayyyy back when I still had the knees to do lindy the go-to’s were Tom Koerner and Debra Sternberg.

Sure. But just because there are crazy conspiracy theories doesn’t mean that there’s scientific consensus on the origin. We really don’t know yet. And saying that it’s a slam dunk in either direction isn’t supported by the available evidence, IMHO.

and even as a non-conspiracy theorist, anything the Chinese officials say has to be taken with a major grain of salt.

It was seen by many as an abomination and a blight on the landscape. As much as I will miss it, I believe it is time to start planning the decommissioning of the Glen Canyon Dam and the end of Lake Powell.

I don’t believe this will happen in our lifetimes. One of the primary reasons for building it was as a sediment cache so all that silt that comes down the river won’t flow into Lake Mead and shorten its lifetime. There is far to much money riding on the water provided by POwell and Mead to remove it.

Even if it reaches deadpool and can no longer generate electricity? My notion is that it will be a necessity once Lake Meade also reaches the limit of its generating capacity. They will need to drain one to replenish the other.

Well, my ex chose this one ~25 years ago when we were moving into the house we were buying. The house is gone, the ex is gone but the vacuum? New belt & bag and it works like a new machine. Light weight commercial model. Gotta like that.

re: #128 JC1

Another angle is that one of the scientists working at the lab caught it at an expedition and brought it to Wuhan.

I normally carry two laptops in my bag. One is my personal, the other is my work computer. I was hoping upon hope that we would reach the lines at the same time and with me close enough to say:

I know several people who needed IVF services to have children - without that service, they’d be childless. It’s insane that these know nothing extremists want to deny access to these services and attack them but that’s their worldview.

It’s not natural? That’s it.

Know what else isn’t natural? Sanitation. Cleaning supplies. Clean water. Go live in a failed state and die prematurely because you can’t get health care or are poisoned by the water or air because those countries don’t have adequate health or safety regulations in place.

You want to quibble about the ethics behind behind a procedure that is envisioned down the line - like being able to choose a gender or something of that sort? That’s an argument. This isn’t that.

This is a blanket attack against facilities that provide essential services to families seeking to have children. They hate the fact that they can do it without a guy being involved other than as a sperm donor. They hate that non-traditional families can choose to have children in this fashion. They hate that the patriarchy doesn’t dominate like it once did.

Fuck them.

Callous human traffickers threw young migrants into the sea to try to lighten the boat that sank off the Italian coast, according to a report Monday — as officials fear the death toll could top 100.

“The traffickers started to throw kids out,” one of the 81 survivors told La Stampa of the overcrowded 65-foot wooden boat that smashed into rocky reefs before dawn Sunday.

“They grabbed them by the arm and threw them in the sea.”

Woody Harrelson has become a darling of the far-right after pushing a wild vaccine conspiracy theory during his SNL monologue (Insider via MSN)

The story doesn’t read like he was pushing anything
(I didn’t see it)

On Saturday, Harrelson told a rambling story about a “crazy” movie script he read in 2019 while smoking weed in Central Park.

“The movie goes like this: The biggest drug cartels in the world get together and buy up all the media and all the politicians and force all the people in the world to stay locked in their homes,” Harrelson said. “And people can only come out if they take the cartel’s drugs and keep taking them over and over.”

How do you get from movie script and I was high, to pushing a conspiracy theory?

It’s Woody, I expect it was worse. I would have skipped SNL if I ever watched it anymore just because of his presence. He’s been a idiot for a long time (raw vegan, Covid caused by 5G cellphones, etc) and a classic of an “actor” who only plays one character no matter the script.
