Stephen Miller, Mark Meadows, Other Top Trump Aides Ordered to Testify in Jan. 6 Probe; Judge Rejects Claims of Executive Privilege

Politics • Views: 10,938

Mark Meadows, Stephen Miller, and other former top Trump aides tried to claim executive privilege (via Donald Trump’s legal team) to get out of Jack Smith’s subpoenas…. DENIED.

In a sealed order last week, Judge Beryl Howell rejected Trump’s claim of executive privilege for Meadows and a number of others, including Trump’s former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe, his former national security adviser Robert O’Brien, former top aide Stephen Miller, and former deputy chief of staff and social media director Dan Scavino, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Former Trump aides Nick Luna and John McEntee, along with former top DHS official Ken Cuccinelli, were also included in the order, the sources said.

Trump is likely to appeal the ruling, according to sources briefed on the matter.

Naaah, more likely it will take up a few days, rather than hours: which will buy TFG a minor respite to tweet out some more of his ALL CAPS fulminations, and issue his hollow blustering “threats”, (which, I’m sure, the media will appreciate, as it will give them just so much more airtime to fill up with inane speculation): but it’s just so much can-kicking…

What I’ve seen so far of the new Chatbots and the like is an ability to do some limited-domain tasks well (with good prompting), and an ability to produce a semi-infinite stream of plausible bullshit on demand for any topic under the sun.

Stupid executives will be mightily impressed by that second part (because they don’t realize it’s bullshit).

That tracks with the way AI works mechanically under the hood. Again, AI is designed to work best with a narrow focus; the more “general-purpose” you make an AI, the worse it performs at all those tasks. Essentially, the law of averages guarantees that a truly multi-purpose AI won’t even be a jack of all trades, but thoroughly average at best.

The flip side of that coin is the astonishing AI results that have been achieved when the focus is truly narrow (e.g., chess and go). As time goes on, the OG Turing test looks better and better as the touchstone for true AI.

This is the music video using the raid footage

Afroman - Will You Help Me Repair My Door (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO)

Chorus]
Will you help me repair my gate?
Will you help me repair my door?
Did you find what you was looking for?
Will you help me repair my gate and door?

[Verse 1]
Would you like a slice of lemon pound cake?
You can take as much as you want to take
There must be a big mistake
Would you like to have a slice of my lemon pound cake?
The warrant said “Narcotics and kidnapping”
The warrant said “Narcotics and kidnapping”
Are you kidding? I make my money rapping
Why does the warrant say “Narcotics?” (Well, I know narcotics)
But why kidnapping?
Let me ask you something, Officer

[Verse 2]
Any kidnapping victims inside my suit pockets?
Are therе any kidnapping victims inside my suit pockets?
You crooked cops need to stop it
Thеre are no kidnapping victims in my suit pockets
Let me ask you another question
Is there a thousand pounds of weed in my suit pockets?
Is there a thousand pounds of weed in my suit pockets?
You crooked cops need to stop it
There’s not a million pounds of weed in my suit pockets
Let me ask you something else

[Verse 3]
Any kidnapping victims inside my CDs?
Any kidnapping victims inside my CDs?
The Adams County Sheriff’s Department, you can get these
There are no kidnapping victims in my, in my CDs
How many pounds of weed are inside my CDs?
How many pounds of weed are inside my CDs?
Adams County Sheriff’s, you can get these
How many pounds of weed did you find in my CDs?

[Verse 4]
Why are you stealing my money?
Why are you stealing my money?
You represent the law and it’s funny
You’re stealing my legal-worked-hard-everyday-paid-taxes money
The sheriff disconnected my cameras
The sheriff disconnected my cameras
The sheriff should be locked up in slammers
The Adams County Sheriff’s Department disconnected my cameras

[Verse 5]
Did you have to traumatize my kids?
Did you have to traumatize my kids?
Did you have to traumatize my kids?
Did you have to traumatize my kids?
Will you pay me for doing me wrong?
Will you pay me for doing me wrong?
Will you pay me for doing me wrong?
Or will I have to get paid from this song?

[Outro]
Aye, you think they gon’ buy this, man?

And… they’ve lowered the winning amounts?

Used to be one would win $5 for a wb+pb pick, and $10 for either three whiteballs or two whiteballs and the powerball and now it is down to $7.

Wow, inflation has hit hard Powerball.

Reform of the federal civil service to make sure it wasn’t the president’s personal corruption cesspool of patronage was one of the major reforms of the Lincoln administration.

Naturally the civil service is a target of today’s Republicans, most crudely Trump, but the rest of the party isn’t far behind.

The next GOP president will almost certainly purge the civil service to install tens of thousands of hacks committed to sabotage. The damage will be enormous, and almost impossible to repair, which is another reason we can’t afford to elect another Republican president.

This will be only the fourth time the Final Four will have no No. 1 seeds since seeding began in 1979. The other years were 1980 (Louisville national champ); 2006 (Florida); and 2011 (UConn).

This marks the first time since the seeding process was introduced that no No. 1 seeds at least made it to the Elite 8.

Gordon Moore, co-founder of Intel, has died at 94. Moore served in a number of positions at Intel, including President and CEO. He is responsible for coining what has become known as Moore’s Law which posits the number of transistors that can be packed onto an integrated circuit roughly doubles every 1 to 2 years. His honors and awards for his achievements and his humanitarian efforts would require pages to list in their entirety. A true giant in the hi-tech world.

Well, Moore’s Law is now well and truly dead…

Mo Brooks is a conservative, therefore he only cares about himself.

He is a DeSantis supporter.

Former Trump ally Mo Brooks denounces him as ‘dishonest, disloyal, incompetent and crude’ (The Independent, November 14, 2022)

Mo Brooks, a former ally of Donald Trump who whipped up a crowd at the 6 January rally with his fiery rhetoric, has now described the former president as a “dishonest, disloyal, incompetent [and] crude” politician.

With many in the GOP openly criticising Mr Trump after the midterm elections disappointment, the Alabama congressman said it would be a “bad mistake” for Republicans to have Mr Trump as their nominee in 202[4].

Mr Brooks has said he will retire from politics after his sixth term in Congress ends on 3 January 2023. He earned an endorsement from Mr Trump last year for the 2022 Senate primary before he withdrew it, saying the Alabama representative “went woke”.

About the Missouri pastor who two days ago claimed without proof that prayer regrew three toes a woman lost to her husband shooting her in a domestic violence incident.

showmethetoes.com

The Website is asking for proof. They have the video (now pulled down from the church Website) claiming the woman regrew her toes through the power of his church’s prayer (along with social media posts which were also pulled down).

James River Church was one of the first churches to rehabilitate Mark Driscoll after he was given the left foot of fellowship by Mars Hill church in Seattle. So yeah, they’re going to be completely messed up.

ETA: They got Bill Johnson, the eminence grise behind Bethel Church Redding to go on about this? Oh man…wow.

The GOP is becoming more unhinged about LGBTQ people — which will only make them more unpopular (Salon, today)

Not if they establish their Christian fascist state first.

“A harmless drag show? Not possible.”

That was the response of Walter Wendler, the president of West Texas A&M University, in defense of his unilateral decision to cancel a drag show students had scheduled as a fundraiser for the anti-suicide group the Trevor Project. Wendler claimed his purpose was to stop speech that would “denigrate and demean women,” comparing drag to “blackface.” Students, however, argued, “Drag is not an insult,” but instead “a celebration of queerness, of gender, of femininity.”

In 2019, Wendler provoked a similar controversy by arguing that sex should only occur between married heterosexuals who do not use contraception. He was let go from his previous position as chancellor of Southern Illinois University Carbondale after he resisted allowing employees in same-sex relationships to have equal access to health care benefits. Student groups argue that Wendler broke a university policy barring the university from taking action against students “on the basis of a political, religious, philosophical, ideological, or academic viewpoint.”

The Salt Lake Tribune published the document of the person challenging the Bible in a Utah school district under the state’s new anti-pornography law.

The list of verses quoted were so long, the complainant put them in a Google Doc, which was linked in the Tribune article.

In the name of libertarian free speech (and to undermine the complaint to the school board), Google banned the doc from their site, but not before it was captured by Reddit’s r/Atheism to preserve.

All the verses listed in seven parts in the top of the comments, because the list of porn and violence in the Bible is just so long …

This is the backed-up document of Bible passages submitted to a Utah school district for removal on the basis of pornographic content.

Original article at the Tribune (Google Doc link within now dead): A Utah parent says the Bible contains porn and should be removed from school libraries. Here’s their full challenge. (March 22, 2023)

GOP rep suggests replacing libraries with ‘church-owned’ alternatives

Sounds like a job for The Satanic Temple.

But it wasn’t until yesterday when I saw a Republican member of Congress suggest that the nation’s public libraries be replaced with “church-owned” alternatives. Consider this missive Rep. Clay Higgins of Louisiana published on Twitter:

“Over time, American communities will build beautiful, church owned public-access libraries. I’m going to help these churches get funding. We will change the whole public library paradigm. The libraries regular Americans recall are gone. They’ve become liberal grooming centers.”

As best as I can tell, the GOP congressman wasn’t kidding.

He’s got plenty of worshippers here. The general store here has a whole section of Trump swag, slurs against Kamala Harris, &c.

I could simply refuse to shop in the general store, but the supermarket in the county seat has the same. To get away from Trump swag in a grocery store I have to go sixty miles to Safeway in Sidney or Scottsbluff.
