Now this is depressing. There’s a new technique used by advertising androids with more greed than common sense—the “pop-under” window. Apparently they’re not going to stop until they’ve pissed off and alienated every human being on the internet.

“Yeah, we know that,” you say. “What’s so depressing all of a sudden?”

Yahoo is doing it now too.

I’m going to send a very strongly worded letter to Yahoo today. Maybe several letters. If you’re concerned about the spread of obnoxious marketing techniques derived from the porn industry, I urge you to do the same. Business owners everywhere are going to be watching Yahoo’s experiment. If they perceive it to be successful, the whole internet will soon be infested with these tools of Satan—and they won’t stop there.

The androids are already experimenting with full-screen ads that completely take over your browser. In their desperation for advertising revenue they have lost all contact with human feelings, and have forgotten that if you lose the customer’s good will you have lost everything.
