Most of the animal products I now consume comes from cow’s milk.

Ah, how could I have forgotten “Impossible Meats” and other purveyors of plant-based meat substitutes that rely heavily upon genetic engineering and other tricks to create faux burgers and other “meats” for vegetarians who want to scratch that particular itch.

The reality is that Soylent Green is slowly becoming reality, the reprocessing of “cheap” foods and even lab-grown proteins into ready-made meals is the future. So long as inflationary forces continue to outpace wage growth for much of the population, there will be a ready market for “cheap” foods whose relation to “real” meat is sketchy at best.
