Who’s at the door now?

Sun goes down, windows wide
One step closer to the other side
I can feel what others do
Can’t stop this if I wanted to

Lyrics:

Who’s at the door now?

Sun goes down, windows wide
One step closer to the other side
I can feel what others do
Can’t stop this if I wanted to

Hey kid, what’s the plan for tomorrow?
Where will I wake up?

Hurry now boy, time won’t wait
The here and the now will separate
There are some things you cannot choose
Soul and spirit moving through

Hey kid, what’s the plan for tomorrow?
Where will I wake up?

Who’s at the door now?
(Wake up)

Two cold stones on a riverbed
Ripped and torn, cannot mend
Old white candles on a dusty porch
One flame down, another born

Hey kid, what’s the plan for tomorrow?
Where will I wake up?

Who’s at the door now?

You showed me how to breathe, but never showed me how to say goodbye
You showed me how to be, but never showed me how to say goodbye
Every page turns, it’s a lesson learned in time
You showed me how to breathe, but never showed me how to say goodbye

Try and make good with the air that’s left
Counting every minute
Living breath by breath

You showed me how to need, but never showed me how to say goodbye
You showed me how to grieve, but never showed me how to say goodbye
Every page turns, it’s a lesson learned in time
You showed me how to need, but never showed me how to say goodbye

Try and make good with the air that’s left
Counting every minute
Living breath by breath

Goodbye.

re: #258 steve_davis

my guess would be that, if republicans manage to fuck this up, Democrats will bring out the discharge petition as a kind of a deus ex machina, and then that will give “moderate” Republicans a chance finally to put up or shut up.

Think it is a done deal in the House. The Dems were ready to provide more than the minimum votes needed to move to a final vote. I firmly believe McCarthy made a deal for that support. Wonder what it will be?

Democrats stressed that their support for the initial parliamentary vote would not come for free. In exchange, the Democratic leader will win a private pledge for concessions from McCarthy on legislation considered later this summer or fall

Just a follow-up from yesterday:

This hits me really hard as this was my elementary school and I have some fond and vivid memories of my time there. The school was set to have a reading of this charming book:

goodreads.com

From the synopsis, it’s a book about all different kinds of lives people live. Some rich, some poor, some professional, some working class. People of all ages, orientations, and family histories.

This fun and fascinating treasury features all kinds of families and their lives together. Each spread showcases one aspect of home life - from houses and holidays, to schools and pets, to feelings and family trees. Ros Asquith’s humorous illustrations perfectly complement a charming text from the acclaimed Mary Hoffman; kids will love poring over these pages again and again. A celebration of the diverse fabric of kith and kin the world over, The Great Big Book of Families is a great big treat for every family to share.

And yet some bigots have decided to protest to keep their kids “innocent”

foxla.com

A flyer circulating among the Saticoy Elementary School community details the June 2 protest to counter a Pride event in which an assembly and teachers will read students a book by Mary Hoffman titled “The Great Big Book of Families,” which talks about diversity and “all kinds of families.”

And this then led to actual terrorism. Some monster went to my school and burned it. Just to keep other people’s kids from learning stuff that their parents wanted them to learn. As if these religious dipshits get to choose for everyone else. As if they can substitute, through use of force, their judgement for mine. As if they are in charge.

We have to fight this.

abc7.com

An LGBTQ Pride flag was burned at an elementary school in North Hollywood and police are now investigating it as a possible hate crime.

Before it was burned, the small flag was displayed in a planter outside of a classroom at Saticoy Elementary School. The Los Angeles Police Department says it took a report last week and launched a hate crime vandalism investigation.

It’s not clear who burned it, but a new larger flag is now on display outside the classroom.

Two words: Federal Budget. The Democrats aren’t stupid. They know the Republicans will absolutely shut down the government unless they get their way. Using the debt limit as leverage to get Qevin to promise to get his fuckwads in line over the federal budget, and avert a government shutdown, is EXACTLY the kind of shrewd “no u” ploy I’d expect from a man with more than 40 years of experience.

If anyone’s looking for some cheap entertainment, Disney has a new series out on their streaming service called American Born Chinese. It’s a crossover between a kung fu/Chinese mythology action show, and a campy teenage high school drama show. It guest stars Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan, among others, and it’s a delightful mix of serious takes on racism and high school bullying and cheesy over-the-top kung fu.

Can confirm. Good show so far, and much more mature than the previews show.

The question that keeps coming to my mind about Trump and the classified docs: what the fuck was he planning to do with them?

This is not a sentimental guy. He’s not keeping mementos. And he wasn’t just showing them to impress people; he’s never done anything in his life that wasn’t intended to benefit him somehow. So what was he thinking?

The Saudis gave Bagman Jared $2 BILLION. That probably was not for a bunch of MAGA hats.

They all want it to pass. But they’ll force 30 hours of debate so don’t expect the Senate to vote until late Friday.

My assumption is that she knows that it will pass the Senate. So she feels she can protest the bill’s theoretical imperfections. At least according to her theories.

I heard Jayapal say today that folks need to know that progressives are fighting for them. I am confident that there will be enough votes to pass the debt limit increase because everyone knows it has to pass, but that doesn’t mean everyone has to vote “aye.”

Respectfully, I disagree with your first line. I believe that we all face the human condition of being imperfect. And that we are all really trying as hard as we can to do the right thing.

I certainly see my failings, mistakes, and regrets. And sometimes find myself haunted by them.

As for the rest of your message, I see wisdom.

I think that most of us here have taken breaks at one time or another. Certainly I have. What generally clues me in is when I find that whatever I try doesn’t seem to work.

And thank you for the kind wish. I think that most folks wish you well. I certainly do. And look forward to your return when you are ready.

Will this stop Target from pouring millions of dollars into GOP campaigns?

Nope.

alternet.org

Fox News hosts’ call for Target boycott significantly backfires: Media Matters for America

As many conservatives continue to express outrage over Target’s support of transgender inclusivity, Fox News is urging viewers to boycott the company amid its support of GLSEN, an LGBTQ+ advocacy organization striving to “create safe, inclusive learning environments for K-12 students.”

However, Media Matters for America reports Fox Corps. — which owns Fox News — “previously said it has ‘raised awareness and demonstrated support’ for GLSEN.

Media Matters shared a clip from a recent segment of Fox News show, Outnumbered, in which co-host Dagen McDowell says, “Target has moved those Pride displays to the back of some stores, but we’re now learning the retailer has been donating to an activist group that’s trying to push gender ideology into classrooms.”

i had the experience today of having Fedex call me to discuss getting me to fill out the waybill certification for the guitar that’s been coming from Spain and is now sitting in Memphis (it’s a guitar in Memphis, which I’m guessing means it’s loving the hell out of life at the moment). I actually spent the first minute bitching about how Fedex has their “directions for driver” form so bolloxed that it’s impossible to actually use. I ended all of that with “I know you can’t personally do anything about any of that, but you’re the first live person from Fedex I’ve ever spoken to.” He laughed. I may not have been the first experience of that sort for him.
