Oh, on the subject of names and ethnicity, as far as I can tell from doing genealogy, my ancestors arrived here in the 1600s and 1700s from England, Scotland, Ireland, the Netherlands, France and Germany. Nobody has a problem spelling my last name (“Holmes”). It’s my first name (“Deana”, pronounced Dee-na) they have a problem with. It CONTINUALLY gets misspelled and mispronounced, even on Twitter when it’s right in front of them. I go by Dee at work.

I told those asshats at the church/cult I picket that I go by Dee because they were calling me Deana, pronounced correctly. (I presume they’re leading prayers from the pulpit because everyone got it right. Everyone.) The thought of my legal name in the mouth of those awful people just gave me the utter creeps and I’ve told them to call me Dee.
