Nope. I’m betting it’s the boos.

He would be facing a crowd that would boo him mercilessly. And he’d have no where to go and would show that he’s a vain and smug asshole, with a puss look while being incapable of dishing out a response. He’d fume.

And then have the inevitable 3am tweet storm about how the fans were awful Clinton fans who were bused in or some nonsense.

Despite painful defeat last week, Pres Trump tells Senators he thinks getting a healthcare deal is “an easy one…will happen very quickly.”

Either he’s learned nothing or he’s just bullshitting. Or both.

In any case, it seems like nobody’s sat him down to explain why it’s this, or Single Payer, or tens of millions lose their health insurance. There is no “Everyone’s covered, premiums and deductibles are cheaper, and coverage is better”

He’s figured out a few things that worked well for him, and he can do those really well, but put him in a new situation, and that simple repertoire is all he’s got. He literally used the same techniques to get people to invest in excess casino capacity in New Jersey; to get people to pay ‘tuition’ in Trump University; to get elected President; and most recently to try to pass the AHCA.

“Well well well. It’s almost as if Don Jr. thinks that all black people look the same.”

We do, just ask him. //

A few years back I read a research report that found that when many non-White Americans look at us, they’re not really looking at individual characteristics. The study was related to whether White Americans could give accurate descriptions of blacks who commit crimes when they’re at the locations where the crimes take place. The study’s results showed a majority of them can’t distinguish between one black person [in that respect (crime)] and another.

“Rep. Maxine Waters just now. Hot damn!”

Rep. Waters is a child of Jim Crow and the Civil Rights Era, as am I, and one thing our parents emphasized as we were growing up was the value of having a good education. My parents always said, “People can take a lot of things away from you, but what they can’t take is your knowledge.”

Rep. Waters is way stronger than O’Reilly, and it’s very likely she’s a lot smarter. Some Americans don’t understand that when you were black and growing up, or living, in 1940s, 50s, and 60s, America, you fought for every step forward you took, and an education beyond high school was one of those steps you worked hard to acquire. Also, when a black person went to college during the aforementioned years, it wasn’t simply one’s family one was afraid of disappointing, it was the entire community, so that left you no other option than to succeed.

There are so many little known programs that do so much good but Republicans just cut them because of “waste” and this bs about the private sector doing it better. As you guys know, I write the Small Business newsletter my boss publishes for Fairfax County’s Small Business Commision and apparently the Trump admin is planning to cut 43 mill from the Small Business Administration which includes a lot of programs that help prospective business owners.

It’s only happened a couple of times in my life, but I’ve been talking politics with my pops and I’ve gotten to the point of saying to his face “Dad, I love you, but right now SHUT THE FUCK UP before we get into a fight!”

Which is why most political conversations with my pops takes place over the telephone now.

I’m more in the camp of just letting him rant, nodding and smiling where necessary, and then moving on to the next topic. The nice thing about my folks is that they never dwell on political rants for long. It’s usually once or maybe twice a visit, and then it’s all over and we can talk basketball or cars or whatever cute thing the fishspawn are up to.

Heh. My only “Trump skiing” story: some years back, I rode the lift at Aspen with a local, who regaled me with the tale of the time Donald Trump was skiing there, and unexpectedly ran into his ex-wife Ivana at the top of a run. She started yelling at him, whereupon he hit the slope to try to get away from her. Ivana (reputedly a championship-level skier) took off after him, and kept pace with him downslope, skiing backwards, and screaming curses at him in Czech all the way to the bottom.
Sorry I missed that!

Don’t beat yourself up about it. There probably was, maybe even is, a little bit of decency. Problem is, with all things wingnut, the tendency is toward inertia - the more he moved to the derp side, the greater the tendency to continue toward the derp side. It’s funny for me seeing my Dad’s oldest brother post pretty left wing memes and links. I mean we knew that my Uncle was left leaning- he’s told us that Joe Biden was the first candidate he ever donated to but Dad also thought that his brother had a little bit of a right wing bent in some areas. Their father, my grandfather, they’ve all told me was petrified by the rise of Reagan. I don’t even want to know what he would think about Trump. Not just Trump’s ideology but how Trump treated people especially women.

Reminds me of a friend of mine from college. His family are Conservative - so much so that when he came out to them, his brother quoted the whole Leviticus ‘Worthy of death’ thing to him. He tied himself to the GOP, and remains there even as they increasingly make it plain they don’t want him. Indeed, his family doesn’t want him either - he’s basically paid from the family fortune to keep his distance. And he’s old (for his age) and sick, so he’s not going to strike out on his own at 59.

I get the same feeling about his Republicanism as I got from DF. Basically, they can spout the Free Market jargon, and rattle on about individual responsibility, but it feels more like it’s coming from being a team player, rather than a true believer.

It wasn’t too long ago that they started letting Catholics into the Country Clubs, and that was a big deal.

Some people take what their ancestors experienced and use it to tell other groups to shut up. I choose to use it as perspective. I come from a Catholic family and am what one would call “white ethnic”, I’ve never experienced discrimination for that. I know that life wasn’t easy for my ancestors but I do two things A) I don’t use what they encountered to miminize the suffering of others, that is while what happened to the Irish in Famine era Ireland infuriates me, the “Irish slaves” bs done every St. Paddy’s Day infuriates me and B) I choose to be empathetic to today’s immigrants because I know full well they have the same hopes and dreams for their families that mine did.

Graham doesn’t mean a word of it, since he’s not doing anything to get a proper independent investigation going in the Senate.

McCain, Collins, Flake, Sasse, Paul and Graham. All it takes is for three of them to convince themselves there’s blood in the water.

I am an Arctic researcher. Donald Trump is deleting my citations

As an Arctic researcher, I’m used to gaps in data. Just over 1% of US Arctic waters have been surveyed to modern standards. In truth, some of the maps we use today haven’t been updated since the second world war. Navigating uncharted waters can prove difficult, but it comes with the territory of working in such a remote part of the world.

Over the past two months though, I’ve been navigating a different type of uncharted territory: the deleting of what little data we have by the Trump administration.

At first, the distress flare of lost data came as a surge of defunct links on 21 January. The US National Strategy for the Arctic, the Implementation Plan for the Strategy, and the report on our progress all gone within a matter of minutes. As I watched more and more links turned red, I frantically combed the internet for archived versions of our country’s most important polar policies.

I had no idea then that this disappearing act had just begun.

Since January, the surge has transformed into a slow, incessant march of deleting datasets, webpages and policies about the Arctic. I now come to expect a weekly email request to replace invalid citations, hoping that someone had the foresight to download statistics about Arctic permafrost thaw or renewable energy in advance of the purge.

The worst thing is the Trump budget is cutting a lot of programs that do help the people of the coal region. And yet these poor fools still think he’s their friend.

Like many others I came to believe DF was part of a very dysfunctional family. He could not break away from his fathers influence.

On the positive side, I’ve always felt DF was extremely knowledgeable in military history and weaponry. He was always able to provide detailed information about very obscure battles and unusual weapons.

I always thought he should build on this knowledge and get a degree(s) in History and become a college/military school professor. He seemed to be wasting his time selling corporate training sessions.

If there was such a thing as clean coal, America’s coal industry would have found it long ago, rather than going almost extinct. The two biggest sources of technological advances are military research and businesses trying desperately not to cease existing.

So? They’d vote the same way, as their parents did, and grandparents, and great-grandparents, and great-great-grandparents. The party label has changed, but the story remains the same.

Let me ask you: You’re from the Klaniest corner of Louisiana except for maybe mine, right? Do you vote the same way all your ancestors there would have approved of?

More details:

LOS ANGELES —
California prosecutors say two anti-abortion activists who made undercover videos of themselves trying to buy fetal tissue from Planned Parenthood have been charged with 15 felonies.

The allegations said the pair filmed 14 people without their consent between October 2013 and July 2015, most of them in San Francisco and Los Angeles counties. They were also charged with criminal conspiracy.

Becerra said they used a fictitious bioresearch company to meet with women’s health care providers and covertly record them.

My thumbs bend back too. It is a sign of…a sign of…of… Well, I would have said superior genetics or some such nonsense, but since Trump’s thumbs do it too, I’ll just sit down quietly somewhere.

I see on Kos that the guy in Kansas who was injured trying to stop that terrorist from shooting the two Indian men in a bar has been given a mighty gift. The Indian community presented him with $100,000, so that he can get a home. Evidently he is a very nice guy who is getting well-deserved recognition.

So, I’ve been skimming here from time to time over the last few days, but I’ve been pretty busy with a.) life and b.) my brilliant decision to clean my oil painting-which is going to take something like 3 times as long as I thought due to the fact that dirt and cigarette smoke are welded onto a very irregular painted surface (serious impasto technique was used.)

Behind a private tag because not everyone wants to read a rant about cleaning a painting.
