When my daughter was a baby, (this was in Seattle in the 1970’s) some random person at the supermarket asked me if she was an adopted Vietnamese war orphan.

My daughter gets some of that. She came from Korea at 13 months. I know it makes her feel like she sticks out. People want to know why she doesn’t have an accent. If I came up to some random European looking person, said you look like you are from Germany, why don’t you have an accent I wonder if they would get a clue?
