I really resisted the idea of suddenly leaving after we got Bin Laden. Now I understand that we simply cannot help Afghanistan. Nothing we do actually helps Afghanistan. Not troops, not money. Certainly not governance.

Only Afghanistan itself and maybe the immediate neighbors even can help. I will simply never understand the desire for a 16th-century lifestyle and a fundamentalist/extremist approach to desired living.
