To be fair to the BBC, part of the reason is that Brexit technically is still on-going. If the Tories had allowed all the checks and restrictions to go into effect all at once, the country would have collapsed and the people would have been outside Westminster ages ago with torches and pitchforks. Instead, they’ve delayed things for years and implemented them in stages so as to cushion the blow. That way whenever fecal matter hits the rotary impeller, they can lie their asses off to the press about “COVID,” “Ukraine,” or (their favorite) “THE EU IS PUNISHING US!”
