ABC News: Andrew Breitbart is Not an ABC News Analyst

Media • Views: 8,160

Andrew Morse, Executive Producer of ABC News Digital, has released the following statement about Andrew Breitbart’s participation in their election night coverage.

Since conservative commentator Andrew Breitbart announced on his website that he was going to be a participant in ABC’s Town Hall meeting at Arizona State University, there has been considerable consternation and misinformation regarding my decision to ask him to participate in an election night Town Hall event for ABC News Digital. I want to explain what Mr. Breitbart’s role has always been as one of our guests at our digital town hall event:

Mr. Breitbart is not an ABC News analyst.

He is not an ABC News consultant.

He is not, in any way, affiliated with ABC News.

He is not being paid by ABC News.

He has not been asked to analyze the results of the election for ABC News.

Mr. Breitbart will not be a part of the ABC News broadcast coverage, anchored by Diane Sawyer and George Stephanopoulos. For the broadcast coverage, David Muir and Facebook’s Randi Zuckerberg will contribute reaction and response gathered from the students and faculty of Arizona State University at an ABC News/Facebook town hall.

(Hat tip: Killgore Trout.)

UPDATE at 10/30/10 12:18:21 pm:

Note that the announcement on Breitbart’s site considerably overstates his participation: ABC Election Night Coverage to Feature Loesch, Breitbart - Big Journalism.

ABC announced their election night coverage early on and Big Journalism Editor Dana Loesch will join the network in studio for 6 p.m. – 2 a.m. election night; Bigs founder and head of the Breitbart empire Andrew Breitbart will be bringing analysis live from Arizona.

18 Sol Berdinowitz  Sat, Oct 30, 2010 12:33:55pm

In 1985 they made a Hollywood film, “American Anthem” in Flagstaff, Arizona.

They called up a friend of mine who ran a recording studio there to provide a reel-to-reel tape recorder to be used as a prop in the filming, in a scene in which the protagnist was recording himself.

They dubbed other music over it, but the music that was causing the needles to bounce on the film was actually music that my buddy and I had recorded at his studio.

So I have been on the soundtrack of a Hollywood film just like Andrew Breitbart is an ABC news analyst.

How the hell does Jon Stewart not want anyone to know he’s a Jew? The guy talks about it openly on the show, for crying out loud. It’s not like he’s ashamed of it or anything.

Then again, I’m trying to apply logic to one of Malkin’s readers. My bad.

Speaking of faulty logic, check the most recent Tweet someone sent to Rachel Maddow:

The nice thing about Twitter is that we can track the malevolent memes that cause people to become political extremists. We can see the lies going in that cause these folks to hold positions that just don’t make any sense.

I think we’re going to learn a lot about how easily people uncritically follow those who would mislead them.

After seeing several, several Breitbart clips where he is either acting aggressively and foolishly to attack someone or defensively (in the same spirit, to attack and lash back) every time I see his name now or look at him I get this extremely negative and vindictive vibe that is all too irksome. It’s strange how the psyche is conditioned to be turned off to such irrational and mean-spirited people just by seeing the person or reading or hearing the name.

Bingo. And the ‘we want a christian nation’ folks never seem to understand that if you put the religion in the state, you get the state in your religion. For a group of people who want the state out of everything else, it’s a bit of a dissonant note…to put it lightly!

On of the announcers today at the Restoring Sanity Rally in Washington DC said 150,000 people had turned out.
That might have been a stretch.

Here’s a photo comparison of the rallies.
Via KeyPro:

At least 500,000 showed up at Glenn Beck’s Restoring Honor Rally.

Kentucky Stomper Charged With Fourth-Degree Assault

Timothy Mark Profitt, 53, is charged with misdemeanor fourth-degree assault after he stomped on Lauren Valle’s head and neck. Profitt “intentionally placed his foot on the shoulder/head region on the victim,” a criminal summons says. The newspaper reported that court records say Profitt will be arraigned Nov. 18. Such a charge carries a maximum penalty of 12 months in jail, a $500 fine, or a combination of both, the newspaper reported.

It’s basic Fox News logic. TV shows and celebrity are only negatives if the hosts are liberals.

Remember— for wingnuts, the people who went to the Beck rally are patriots and Real Americans. The ones who went today are pathetic sheep following a comedian, and nothing more.

I’ve even found someone to adopt him if my intensive search for his people fails. Things being what they are, not much could upset me, certainly not some guy on the Internet. I was just trying to dig into what he was getting at, though I’ve been here long enough to know better.

It’s not a total loss since all communication failing, it still counts toward my 50 posts so I can vote on blog entries. I’ve been a member for a while, but don’t post all that much because someone else usually expresses my position on a topic better than I could have myself.

BTW, LGF made me sane. If I’d been allowed to post when I first found this site, I would have lashed out at Conservatives due to years of experience with the theocratic variety and exposure to hate-filled freaks at F.R., and Charles would have been right to ban me. And the misleading “map” he has at the bottom of his comparison pic, to throw off your perception of how big the crowds are.

It looks like both pictures are taken from the top of the Washington monument. The difference is, the distance from the Washington Monument to the Lincoln Memorial is a good deal shorter than from the Monument to where the stage was at this rally.

You should get 100 updings for that. Literally. =)

Are you going to put your photos in a page? Here I am, sitting, waiting for your page.

I’m sory I will, the problem is that they need to get uplaoded to my dad’s machine first since they’re from his computer.

He has a mac and I have an IMB so yeah, transition is going to take its own sweet time.

This may be nothing but backward thinking, but it seems to me attendance at the polls is probably more significant than attendance at any rally.

It appears that some might be stunned by that idea.

Hey it can be “reasonablish” to think that how many show up a rally may be a premeasure of how of how many will show up at the poll…

So since we’ve got now ideas what those numbers will be we can only play around with the numbers we do have….

I get your point.

That said, I was far more impressed by what was said at the rally as opposed to how many people attended.

The same applies to other rallies.

I saw somebody in a gas mask at the Rally to Restore Sanity and or fear as well…. but it was much more like one of those WW1 gas masks rather than looking like modern day NBC gear….

I saw that.

The fact is, the number of the Beck rally attendees was a non issue for me. The content was contaminated- and that was enough for me.

Ever since the Park Police went PC and stopped issuing estimates, I could care less what anyone has to say about the numbers.

From what I heard not issuing estimates wasn’t so much going PC. It was more like “This isn’t part of our job, we don’t get paid when we do it, and whenever we do it people don’t use our numbers but instead s*** all over us for daring to tell them how many people there were. Why the f*** should we stress ourselves out when we get yelled at for it?”

If I recall correctly, the PP stopped because organizations were challenging and threatening to sue, charging them as ‘partisan’ and deliberately inflating/deflating numbers.

Each organization/agenda had to outdo the other.

It’s not a matter of being PC. It’s a matter of not having to deal with the bullshit. Anytime you start putting out crowd estimates for these things it causes an uproar from either side. One side or another is either complaining that the figures were too high or too low. This is nothing new and frankly I don’t blame them from shying away from this. They have other work to do.

I think it would be funny if Stewart commented “Crowd estimates? We don’t really know how many people were there, because we just don’t care”, and Colbert pulling out all the well worn wingnut talking points on crowd estimates to insist that there were “Way more patriots at the Fear rally then there were at the Sanity rally”.

Contaminated as in ‘Beckian’ tortured logic.

Look, I believe Beck often has good things to9 say- in fact, there are times I might even be sympathetic to his ideas. I suspect I’m not alone in that- I’d bet people who are on the other side of the politcal aisle would agree.

That said, Beck also has no trouble embracing racists (can you say say John Birch Society) and political rabble rouser’s who are as equally as repugnant as the ones he excoriates.

He is intellectuality dishonest0 and that is my beef with him.

You can’t embrace the John Birch Society and claim their ideology as based on American values.
