We Must Not Assume
A 29-year old Muslim is under arrest in Sweden for trying to board a plane with a handgun in his carry-on luggage: Terror experts quiz hijack suspect. He was part of a group of 20 flying from Sweden to Britain to attend an Islamic conference. But of course, when the rest of the group was detained, they immediately began screaming prejudice:
Passenger Abla Mohamed Ali told Swedish news agency TT: “Suddenly police came and said we had to leave the plane. They pointed at us with guns.
“The police took everybody that looked Muslim and put them in a room and everyone who didn’t look Muslim in another. They say we are witnesses, but we feel more like suspects.”
And the Muslim Council of Britain rushes to advise us hot-headed, genocide-prone Westerners not to jump to any conclusions:
A spokesman for the Muslim Council of Britain told PA: “It is a real issue for concern. We were surprised that a large group was first detained.
“It seems that the police may well have arrested everyone with a Muslim-sounding name at first. That’s worrying, but we’re glad they were released this morning.
“We must not assume that just because someone was of Muslim extraction he was planning to hijack a plane or that he was being motivated by his Islamic beliefs.”
Nope, we wouldn’t want to add 2 and 2 and come up with 4, would we? After all, there have been so few cases of Islamic extremists hijacking airplanes. Why, Islamic hijackers are rarer than jackalopes.
