AZ State Sen. Lori Klein Defends Herman Cain

“And I am not an unattractive woman”
Wingnuts • Views: 28,593

At least one woman has come forth to defend Herman Cain; of course, Lori Klein is Cain’s Arizona chairman, but still.

One Cain supporter who was on the conference call suggested to CBS News that Cain is simply in the process of retooling his campaign to deal with the problems with messaging, fundraising and other issues in the wake of the allegations. …

Lori Klein, an Arizona state Senator and Cain’s Arizona state chairman, told CBS News she stands by Cain.

She says she has known him for 12 years and he’s “never been anything but a gentlemen - and I am not an unattractive woman.”

Yeah! If Herman would have gone for anyone it would have been her. That proves his innocence. Good grief.

Meanwhile I thought I remembered the name Lori Klein, so I Googled her and sure enough — she got into the news earlier this year when she pulled a loaded handgun out of her purse during an interview and pointed it at a reporter’s chest.

This could have something to do with the reason Herman never sexually harassed her, despite her undeniable hotness.

I think this article is on par with Klein's defense of Cain:

Ariz. gun club offers Santa shoot

Want to improve the caliber of your family’s Christmas card this year? How about having your picture taken with Santa Claus and your choice of machine guns?

For a fee of $5 for members and $10 for non-members, the Scottsdale Gun Club in Arizona will arrange a Yuletide photo op with Santa and a selection of automatic weapons valued at $170,000.

"It's been really fun," said Brooke Rodda, a spokesperson for the club. "We've had a tremendous response from the community."

The "unique" opportunity, Rodda said, permits families to handle weapons in a "safe, controlled environment."

Ya know I respect gun ownership but this is exactly why people talk about gun fetishism. The last thing if I were a parent and my child were getting their photo with Santa is "you know maybe it would be great if they posed with Santa and an assault rifle." What creationists don't want to hear about the "Cambrian Explosion":

Biology’s big bang had a long fuse

The last common ancestor of all living animals probably arose nearly 800 million years ago, a multidisciplinary research team reports in the Nov. 25 Science. From that common ancestry, various animal lineages diverged and evolved on their own paths. Yet the major animal groups living today didn’t arise until roughly 200 million years later, in an exuberant burst of forms preserved in fossils during what’s called the Cambrian explosion.

“There’s a deeper history that’s been missing from the fossil record,” says study coauthor Kevin Peterson of Dartmouth College. He and his colleagues have been pushing back that date for a last common ancestor, and now, he reports, the analysis has the broadest reach yet. “We show that animals evolved quite a bit before they show up in the fossil record.”

This work updates the notion of a long evolutionary lag, when much of the basic biological toolkit was already in place for a later surge of new body forms, says paleontologist and study coauthor Douglas Erwin of the National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C., and the Santa Fe Institute.

“The Cambrian explosion is like the industrial revolution,” Erwin says. Inventions that would later be important for a major shift in technology — or, in this case, genetic novelties important for evolution — appeared long before they played a role in widespread changes that had a major impact on life.

For understanding animal origins, the new paper “is really worthwhile as it stands back and tries to make sense of the whole picture,” says James Valentine of the University of California, Berkeley, who studies animal evolution. [...]

Combining fossil dates and the DNA analysis, Peterson, Erwin and their colleagues conclude that the basic genetic tools for fancy animal bodies arose long before a surge of evolutionary innovation around the Cambrian period gave rise to modern animal forms.

During that 200 million-year-plus run-up to the Cambrian explosion, animals did evolve more diverse cell chemistry to regulate basic genes, and the environment changed. But Peterson attributes much of the Cambrian rise of modern animal forms to changes in the interactions among organisms themselves. “You see an evolutionary explosion, if you will, because animals are eating other animals for the first time,” he says.

[...]

And speaking of creationists:

Tolerant Swedish schools accommodate religiously conservative parents

Swedish teachers are conflict averse, and consequently stubborn parents often get their way. Teaching the emergence of life sometimes is like serving a smorgasbord. Religious creationism is presented alongside the theory of evolution. Students get to decide for themselves what to believe, this is shown by research at the University of Gothenburg.

This is one of the conclusions reached in Fredrik Sjögren's doctoral thesis Negotiated Power. Cultural Value Conflicts in Swedish Compulsory Schools (written in Swedish with a summary in English).

[...]

In his thesis he writes, freely translated: 'In a way you can say that students in some classrooms already in their early teenage years get to form not only their own values and morals but also their own scientific theory.'

Heh.... well, the Swedish author also falls into the trap of not differentiating between "belief" and "to accept".

IOW, people are always free to believe whatever they want. It's not my job to control the minds of others. However, I expect others to act a certain way, and actions betray what people really believe.

I can't force creationists to accept the reality of physics, geology, astronomy, etc. However, I demand that the society in which I live act as a whole based on the reality around us, not the fantasies of individuals.

In the land of the free... free from vaccinations, that is:

Parts of Washington, Idaho cool to childhood vaccines

North Idaho and Eastern Washington share a medical distinction: Both have far higher rates of parents not immunizing their children against childhood disease than either Idaho or Washington as a whole.

As a result, health authorities say, youngsters in the region are at increased risk for illnesses like whooping cough and measles. In early November, nine North Idaho children were diagnosed with whooping cough, also called pertussis.

[...]

Church noted that rural areas tend to have higher rates of parents choosing not to immunize their kids, either because having to drive long distances to do so may be burdensome or because of sentiments against government regulation.

Taggart said anti-immunization groups have been active in North Idaho.

"We don't argue with anybody," she said. "We tell them that's a personal choice, but that when they're not vaccinating, they're getting exposed and they're exposing."

I think that's just wrong. It's hyper-individualism. You don't have an absolute right to use yourself as an incubation chamber for diseases by which you can go around and cause other people illness, or even death.

The MSM is excited about the possibility that Republicans may actually agree to something that will help the country...
U.S. Republicans back payroll tax cut extension

The move by Republicans could help avert an end-of-year battle with Democrats after months of bitter budget battles that brought the country to the edge of default in August and cost it its coveted AAA rating from Standard & Poor's.

Some analysts estimate the payroll tax cut is estimated to boost economic growth by as much as 1.5 percentage points.

"In all likelihood we will agree to continue the current payroll tax relief for another year," Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell said after a closed-door meeting of his colleagues.

McConnell said there was now "a majority sentiment" among Republicans for continuing the temporary tax cut.

Sounds pretty spiffy, eh? If you bother to wade through the article you'll find this...

McConnell did not provide details on how Republicans would offset the cost of extending the tax cut. There has been speculation among some Democratic aides in Congress that Republicans could take aim at new federal subsidies under President Barack Obama's overhaul of the healthcare system.

While that likely would prompt Democratic opposition, a new round of ideas later in December could find bipartisan backing.

Among the ways to potentially cover the cost of renewing the payroll tax cuts are: cutting federal farm subsidies, selling some government assets, reducing federal pensions and administrative savings in the Medicare healthcare program for the elderly. All these ideas have been discussed in past budget negotiations

Guess how this is going to end up.

Treading on dangerous ground

US judge orders hundreds of sites "de-indexed" from Google, Facebook

After a series of one-sided hearings, luxury goods maker Chanel has won recent court orders against hundreds of websites trafficking in counterfeit luxury goods. A federal judge in Nevada has agreed that Chanel can seize the domain names in question and transfer them all to US-based registrar GoDaddy. The judge also ordered "all Internet search engines" and "all social media websites"—explicitly naming Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Bing, Yahoo, and Google—to "de-index" the domain names and to remove them from any search results.

[...]

Missing from the ruling is any discussion of the Internet's global nature; the judge shows no awareness that the domains in question might not even be registered in this country, for instance, and his ban on search engine and social media indexing apparently extends to the entire world. (And, when applied to US-based companies like Twitter, apparently compels them to censor the links globally rather than only when accessed by people in the US.) Indeed, a cursory search through the list of offending domains turns up poshmoda.ws, a site registered in Germany. The German registrar has not yet complied with the US court order, though most other domain names on the list are .com or .net names and have been seized.

re: #101 negativ

Law professor Venkat Balasubramani, writing about the case yesterday, sums it up eloquently: "Wow."

"I'm sympathetic to the 'whack-a-mole' problem rights owners face, but this relief is just extraordinarily broad and is on shaky procedural grounds," he writes. "I'm not sure how this court can direct a registry to change a domain name's registrar of record or Google to de-list a site, but the court does so anyway. This is probably the most problematic aspect of the court's orders."

bad precedent to set imo. i wonder if the judge has fully considered the ramifications. it sounds unamerican. the websites are already breaking the law selling bootleg chanel. why not just prosecute them for that?

More gems from Senator Klein;

[Link: www.mediaite.com...]

While defending Cain, she said;

"Klein suggested that if Cain is innocent he should sue White for libel and went on to attack the media for digging up the allegations. She also said that in politics, “we want a virgin to do a hooker’s job.”

Check out the video at the bottom, apparently she yelled at protesters to "go back to Mexico".

I wouldn't be surprised that she'll be running in the GOP primaries for president in the not too distant future.
