#Breitbart.com Target Joe Williams Will Leave Politico

Raving loons without standards set the agenda for Politico
Media • Views: 32,684

Reporter Joe Williams, suspended from Politico after a hit piece by breitbart.com’s John Nolte, is now leaving his job: Joe Williams to Leave POLITICO.

As we noted at the time, the Breitbart operative who authored the hit piece on Williams, John Nolte, is himself a raving lunatic who often calls for his political enemies to be “murdered.” For example:

It’s absurd that a good reporter like Williams is losing his job because of a deliberate attack by a right wing nutjob with no standards of decency. Politico should be ashamed of their response to this trumped up fake controversy.

The now-accepted version of Williams’ remarks is that he claimed Romney is “only comfortable around white people,” and that’s simply a distorted version of what he really said. The exact quote:

Romney is very, very comfortable, it seems, with people who are like him. That’s one of the reasons why he seems so stiff and awkward in some town hall settings, why he can’t relate to people other than that. But when he comes on “ Fox & Friends,” they are like him, they’re white folks who are very much relaxed in their own company, so it really is a very stark contrast, I think, and a problem that he has not been able to solve to date, and he’s going to have to network harder if he’s going to try to compete.

He said the people on Fox & Friends were white, which is undeniably true, and that was one of the things that made Romney feel comfortable. He did not say or imply that Romney is only comfortable with white people.

If you accept that interpretation, you’re letting John Nolte and breitbart.com do your thinking for you.

Stupid thing to say openly about Romney in any case. He is simply uncomfortable around anyone who does not share his background. Granted, very few of those folks are anything but white...

I don't agree with that interpretation of Williams' remarks. The now-accepted version says he claimed Romney is "only comfortable around white people," and that's simply a distorted version of what he really said.

re: #2 Charles Johnson

Yep. He talked about Romney's difficulties in Town Halls, which, on the GOP side, tend to be almost entirely white. The interpretation he was only or primarily talking about race doesn't fit with what he actually said.

That's the modern media landscape: say something that can be selectively misquoted, twisted or taken out of context to say something offensive and you can darn well expect that it will be used against you...

Yeah, but Politico really over-reacted on this one. Especially considering the source of the hit piece. The proper response should have been "Hey, Nolte, fuck off and go look in a mirror!"

In an MSNBC interview on June 21, Williams suggested that Mitt Romney was only comfortable around white people, prompting the conservative website Breitbart.com to flag a number of negative remarks Williams had made about Romney on Twitter.

Wow...just wow.

So conservatives can go around saying the most hateful/racist/homophobic things to people like Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Rachel Maddow and whomever else and no one gives a shit but one guy on the other side of the fence has the audacity to make a very pertinent point about Mitt Romney and they all pile on to decry his hurtful, insensitive comments and get him FIRED as a result?

What kind of country has this turned in to?

9 AK-47%  Sat, Jun 30, 2012 11:28:57am

They saw how the Shirley Sherrod distortion piece produced results and are not about to let up.

I am not sure if it is an attempt at maintaining the appearance of integrity, fear, cowardice or cluelessness on the part of the left that lets the right wing get away with this kind of bullsh*t.

Williams left Politico because of integrity. At least, an attempt at it. Even if wrong or misguided, Politico and Williams tried.

Breitbart? Not a smidge of integrity. What would it take for a Breitbartian to be axed or quit?

It will never happen.

Israel: Former PM Yitzhak Shamir dies at 96

Former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir died Saturday in Tel Aviv. He was 96 years old.

Shamir was Israel's seventh prime minister and served two terms, 1983–1984 and 1986–1992.

"Yitzhak Shamir was a brave warrior for Israel, before and after its inception. He was a great patriot and his enormous contribution will be forever etched in our chronicles,"

President Shimon Peres said in a statement.

"He was loyal to his beliefs and he served his country with the upmost dedication for decades. May he rest in peace."

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu lauded the former leader, saying that "He was a paragon of loyalty to the Land of Israel and the eternal values of the Jewish people."

"Yitzhak Shamir belongs to the generation of giants who founded the State of Israel and fought for the freedom of the Jewish people on its land," Netanyahu said. "He led the State of Israel with deep loyalty to the people and the land."

Opposition Leader Shelly Yachimovich offered her condolences over Shamir's death: "He was a determined prime minister who dedicated his life to the state. He followed his ideological path honestly and humbly, as a leader should," she said.

I'm amazed at the extent to which you can't say things about Republicans or the Republican party that are obvious. The party is overwhelmingly white and for the most part their policy ideas (HA!) only appeal to white people. This may not have mattered as much 20 years ago, but in light of the country's demographics its a blaring reality. Yet for some reason you can't talk about it, let alone why the two parties look the way they do. Having one multiracial party and one nearly all white party says significant things about this country.

Sounds to me like Milton, er I mean Mitt, plans on abusing executive privilege and signing one executive order after the other because that's what it would take. Joe Paterno's role in covering up Jerry Sandusky's child molestations grows as evidence is leaked

The Penn State administration had finally hatched a plan. It was too kind, backward and included possibly tampering with a criminal investigation. Still, it was enough of a plan that it could've stopped Jerry Sandusky, child molester, back in 2001.

Just a couple weeks earlier, a football graduate assistant, Mike McQueary, had witnessed Sandusky abusing a boy in a Penn State locker room shower. He told coach Joe Paterno. He told vice president Gary Schultz and athletic director Tim Curley. He could've been more specific. He was clearly specific enough, however, to get their attention.

Schultz plotted out a course of action, according to a bombshell report by CNN, citing an email exchange that's been uncovered in the school's independent investigation by former FBI chief Louis Freeh. The report could be released as early as next month.

In an alleged email dated Feb. 26, 2001, Schultz wrote to Curley that he assumes Curley's "got the ball" about a three-part plan to "talk with the subject asap regarding the future appropriate use of the University facility," … "contacting the chair of the charitable organization" and "contacting the Department of Welfare," according to a source with knowledge of the case.

[Link: dubois.fas.harvard.edu...]

As a mother navigating this new terrain, Ann’s preferred style seems to have been to teach her son to ignore racial harassment. A former colleague recounts an incident when Indonesian kids threw rocks and shouted racial epithets at Barry. The young Obama treated it as a game, reacting to the rocks as if he was playing dodge ball. When this colleague wanted to intervene, Ann said, “No, he’s okay... He’s used to it.” At first glance this seems like Ann was teaching her son tolerate disrespect so as to get along. Scott suggests, however, that Ann made this decision as a result of a clear-eyed assessment of Indonesian society. “Self-control is inculcated in part in Indonesian schools,” reports Scott, “And it’s done through a culture of teasing.” Kay Ikranagara offers this: “If a child allows the teasing to bother him, he is teased more. If he ignores it, it stops... If you get mad and react, you lose. If you learn to laugh and take it without any reaction, you win.” Seen from this angle, Ann’s apparent nonchalance about racial harassment and the lesson she inculcated in her child seems to be a savvy response well-suited to the Indonesian context.

The national GOP platform is going to bear a lot of similarities to the Texas GOP. And it needs to be spread and broadcast to everyone so they know what sort of ideology they are getting if they vote GOP.

The day after the convention ends is gonna be hilarious. Because the platform will be gone over with a fine-toothed comb and a litany of questions as to where Willard stands on each item is gonna be ready to ambush him.

You folks are making yourselves dizzy trying to spin this into something other than what was written. The man thinks Romney is more comfortable around white people and he wrote that. All this "technically" he just said all Fox News folks are white is a bunch of BS. "Technically" the Titanic didn't sink from hitting an iceberg either, it sank because it filled up with water. That's the same kind of stupid rationale I see written in the comments above. Hell, if some stupid conservative writer had written the same crap about Obama being more comfortable around black folks every one of you would be all over that "racist" bastard! You are all sounding just as stupid as those "wingnuts" you claim are so stupid!

Ayep, he's gonna find himself stuck between the proverbial rock and hard place, trying to hold to the whacked-out ideology of his party while at the same time making it palatable to indie voters. And that's before Obama begins needling him with questions like "What do you plan to replace the ACA with?"

I won't make excuses. I think Mitt Romney is only comfortable around rich white people. And he's probably most comfortable around other Mormons. It's not his fault. Unlike President Obama he has had very narrow experiences and lived in cultural and economic isolation. President Obama has lived a much more diverse and worldly life starting at birth. As a result he's always comfortable in his own skin no matter who he is around.

I think Obama would probably be uncomfortable in number of different circumstance, but a much smaller one than Romney, because, as you said, Romney has lived in a bit of a bubble.

It really shows; Romney's attempts to interact with ordinary people are forced and awkward, he really has no clue what it's like.

Which is what Joe Williams was saying.

One of the more puzzling things about the Joe Williams story is that Politico hired him to report from "the intersection of race and politics," if I recall properly the words Politico's bio of him. His statement regarding Mitt's comfort level seems perfectly consistent with reporting from such a place.

No one seems too outraged when some pundit mentions that Obama seems comfortable with folks such as Common, or the Reverend, or Oprah.

Yep. He talked about Romney's difficulties in Town Halls, which, on the GOP side, tend to be almost entirely white. The interpretation he was only or primarily talking about race doesn't fit with what he actually said.

Indeed. Put Mitt Romney in a more private meeting with business leaders and he shines. But prior to running for governor of Massachusetts he didn't really hold public-facing positions, and it shows.

I think he has a tough time trying to understand the aspirations of people who don't come from the background that he does. Remember what he said about kids who struggle with school, just borrow 20 K from Mom and Dad and start a business? He's out of touch because he either doesn't want to understand other people or it could be a personality problem. Not sure. I've heard people say he's more relaxed amongst business leaders and fellow Mormons.

In other news. Kaspersky AV has a mind of its own and decided to start blocking all manner of things including blocking the Twitter embeds from loading correctly, logging off of LGF, reloading the LGF page when posting, preventing a Twitter search, etc. So. Had to reset to defaults and it works now. Although I had to do that twice now so it must be a messed up update from Kaspersky.

While I am sad that Joe Williams had to leave Politico, I think he'll be alright. Hopefully, either MSNBC or some other media organization will pick him up since he was an excellent political commentator. Interesting that Glenn Beck can say that President Obama hates White people with no repercussions, but just goes to show that the media has no liberal bias.

Saw Williams on Current TV last Friday on Bill Press' morning show. Perhaps Press can hire him.
