Full Details of the Iran Nuclear Deal
Here’s the detailed synopsis released by the White House of the 6-month deal reached with Iran yesterday.
This actually looks like a pretty good deal to me. Two major points in its favor: Iran commits to halting all uranium enrichment above 5%, and even better, commits to neutralizing their entire stockpile of highly enriched 20% uranium before the end of the first 6-month period. At the very least, this will seriously slow Iran’s progress toward nuclear weapons.
Inspections are greatly strengthened as well, so the international community will be able to get much more information about the current state of Iran’s nuclear programs.
While I have no illusions about Iran’s trustworthiness, even a first step toward peacefully mitigating the threat of a nuclear-armed Iran is better than an unbroken march to war.
