James O’Keefe’s “Scoop” on Hillary Clinton Is Yet Another #EpicFail

Politics • Views: 64,576

Here’s the video, and look what they unearthed about Hillary.

No, it isn’t “smoking gun” evidence that she murdered Vince Foster.

No, it isn’t “smoking gun” evidence that she is a lesbian.

No, it isn’t “smoking gun” evidence that she is really a man (as some wingnuts actually believe about Michelle Obama).

What this video exposes is that a Canadian citizen received Hillary Clinton souvenirs in exchange for a $75 contribution to her campaign, made via an American citizen, a Project Veritas “journalist,” standing next to her. A straw donation, in other words.

YouTube

O’Keefe warns that more videos are coming, showing the Clinton campaign breaking laws “at every level.”

This is Hillary, showing just how worried she is about this:

Can’t they arrest the straw donor like they did for Dinesh D’Souza? And then Arrest O’Keefe for Conspiracy?

New Zealand unveils final four flag designs. Country says: ‘Hmm.’

Four designs in a contest to replace New Zealand’s national flag with something that’s a little less Union Jack-y were unveiled this week. And now, New Zealanders are pondering a big question: Do you like 1) silver ferns, 2) silver ferns, 3) a Maori symbol based on silver ferns, or 4) silver ferns?

I said it earlier - the chances that one of O’Keefe’s ‘journalists’ would just happen to stand in line next to a ‘Canadian’ who wants to buy Hillary swag is just a little too convenient for my liking. I’m guessing the ‘Canadian woman’ was a plant.

And O’Keefe goes to great lengths in the narration to make it clear that it ‘just happened.’ I’m not buying it from that clown.

From the article:
Mr. O’Keefe made the case that the video showed a willingness by the campaign to skirt laws that forbid taking donations from foreigners by using a conduit.

Bzzzt—assumes facts not in evidence.

Mr. O’Keefe and his lawyer, Benjamin Barr, acknowledged that Project Veritas did act illegally by facilitating such a donation but that the infraction on their part was so minor that it was akin to jaywalking.

See D’Souza, Dinesh, CONVICTED FELON.

Mr. O’Keefe maintained that the organization was acting for the greater good to shine a light on corruption in politics and that more videos would be trickling out from its team of investigators who are spread across the country and infiltrating campaigns. Claiming not to be partisan

OK—we’re done here—this is the biggest pile o’shit I’ve read in days hours. For shame, NYT—although I don’t think you have any.

51
Acemarilllion  Sep 1, 2015 • 7:05:33pm
Although campaign finance violations are a serious issue, Mr. O’Keefe’s presentation drew some snickers from the reporters that Project Veritas had convened for the event. He struggled to justify breaking laws and using fake names to find wrongdoing, and at one point Mr. O’Keefe was asked pointedly, “Is this a joke?”

This is pretty awesome - the story of a dead raccoon in Toronto.

Just after 9 a.m. Thursday morning a good citizen of Toronto saw a dead raccoon on the sidewalk. He alerted the city’s contact centre to come get the animal.

The city responded 12 minutes later. Animal Services was notified, they said.

But around noon the raccoon was still there. And someone put a note next to it.

Well played, Toronto.

Scientists discover giant prehistoric sea scorpion

In the prehistoric oceans, this was one bad bug.

Scientists are marveling at the world’s oldest sea scorpion — the Pentecopterus, named after a Greek warship.

Imagine a creature nearly 6 feet in length, with a long head, a narrow body and large limbs for grasping and trapping prey.

NationalJournal is expressing their concern over the browning of Iowa and the impact that will have on politics:

How Iowa’s Population Mix Might Scramble its High-Stakes Caucuses

The gulf separating liberals and conservatives on the volatile issue of immigration somehow seemed even wider because their disagreements were expressed so politely during an afternoon forum on Saturday in this picturesque lakefront community about two hours Northwest of Des Moines.

[…]

Though immigration has not been a central issue in local Iowa politics, attitudes about the growing racial diversity recasting this once monolithically white state could add an unpredictable new element to the presidential competition here.

[…]

Just so we wouldn’t miss the magnitude of the problem, he gives us some details:

All of the state’s population growth has come among racial minorities. Since 2000, Latinos have nearly doubled in number to almost 158,000. The number of Asians and African-Americans in the state has each increased by about half. The three groups now combine for nearly 11 percent of the state’s population, up from about 6 percent in 2000.

[…] Census Bureau figures show that since 2000, non-Hispanic Whites have declined from about 93 percent of Iowa’s population to 88 percent. Over that time, the absolute number of Whites living in Iowa has actually fallen by about 8,000.

As in most places, the change has come even faster among the young, which points toward compounding change in the future. Since 2000, the number of Iowa Whites younger than 20 has declined by over 88,000, according to calculations by demographer William Frey, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution’s Metropolitan Policy Program. Over the same period, the state has added nearly 77,000 children of color younger than 20. Non-White students now comprise a majority in the public schools in Des Moines, the state’s largest city.

The author goes on to discuss the Iowa politics and what he perceives as a hardening of the anti-immigration stance of Republicans in the state due to the political campaigns being currently waged by Trump et. al.

He mentions that Storm Lake (the location of the gathering discussed in the article) is in Rep. King’s district.

Nevertheless, the article implies that on the whole the brown immigrants have been welcomed by the locals, with some exceptions of course.

Only 3 weeks earlier the same author (Ronald Brownstein) helpfully pointed out to us:

46 States Saw Young White Population Decline

What he doesn’t discuss is that without the immigrant boom Iowa would be destined to lose yet more representation in Congress after the next census. In my lifetime Iowa has gone from 7 Congressmen to 4 Congressional districts, because the population did not grow while many other states’ did. Now Iowa has a chance of keeping its 4th Congressman.

Anyway, the likes VDARE wasted no time jumping on this story and decrying the browning of Iowa, with the usual vileness.

Since Obama was elected the US population has grown by over 15 million people. That will be around 18 million by the time of the next election. A great deal of the net population growth is by immigrants and their children. Most of these immigrants do not fall into the ancestry bins of “Northern European” or “Western European”, which (misleadingly) are labeled “white”.

And that’s the way it is. And of course VDARE and Trump fans don’t like it, because it means they will not have much political power at all, real soon.

I see Trump and the xenophobia he’s fueling as the last great rage by the racists. In another 10 years there just won’t be the percentage of the population left to give them any real power.

Jeb! knows this (even Trump knows this.) Everyone with even the tiniest capability for numeracy will be able to understand this.

What is less well understood is that the categories like “white” and “Hispanic” make no sense, especially if they are supposed to be mutually exclusive. These labels are used to create identities to which people want to cling, but they ignore the complexities of our past, of our cultures.

And more importantly these categories will fail in the future.

Going back to Iowa - say some lily white (Scandinavian/German) farm boy marries one of the Mexican senoritas - what are you going to label their children?

This is the same issue which is still boiling, long after it was called out, about Americans with darker skin because of sub-Saharan ancestors. At what point does one stop labeling them “black”?

Are we going to reinstall a one-drop rule?

Here some well meaning activist might chime in that I am trying to take away someone’s identity.

Well, I’d like to think that I am trying to re-define how we should look at ourselves. I propose we ought not to think of self-accepted identities as being mutually exclusive.

This is very much in parallel to our organic reality. We are a colony of a few trillion cells, which contain our DNA. Add to that we live in symbiosis with colonies of an equal or greater number of bacteria which cling to us (outside and inside).

We are both singular and plural, a concept that may strike some as odd if they’ve not encountered it before.

Nyet  Sep 2, 2015 • 5:03:58am

I find such stories fascinating, but of course treat them with a skeptical eye.

Carbon dating suggests ‘world’s oldest’ Koran could be older than the Prophet Muhammad

Carbon dating of a fragment from a Koran stored at a Birmingham library suggests that the book was produced between 568 and 645 A.D., said scientists at the University of Oxford, but Islamic scholars generally believe Muhammad lived between 570 and 632 A.D.

If the carbon dating is accurate, the Koran was made before the first formal text was assembled on orders from the caliph Uthman in 653 — and it could date from Muhammad’s childhood or even before his birth, reported The Times of London.

“Could” is not the same as “did”. The dates fit with the traditional dates of Muhammad’s life. Carbon dating is not so precise as to base arguments where +- couple of decades play a significant role on a single dating attempt, IMHO. For comparison, the Turin Shroud was dated in 3 labs simultaneously and the raw results were:

Tucson: 646 ± 31 years;
Oxford: 750 ± 30 years;
Zürich: 676 ± 24 years old;

Finally, the paper was dated, not ink. Paper can obviously be older than ink. And since one of the possible conclusions drawn is that “the Koran was made before the first formal text was assembled on orders from the caliph Uthman in 653”, and the upper limit was 645 CE, this fact plays an obvious role.

A little bit less sensationalism would be appreciated.

Gee, is it really shocking that racists get their freak on when a black guy gets in the White House?

Racism has always been there - but some people now feel unfettered in their hate and racism to try and restore things pre-Obama. That goes for the whole repeal Obamacare (eliminating Obama’s legacy as it were), and otherwise raising a hue and cry over every single action taken - ignoring that what he does is perfectly legal and within the powers of the office of the Presidency (see preceding post re: Mt. McKinley renaming to Denali as per Alaskan wishes).

But since the great recession, there’s been lagging economic growth among minorities, and the rich continue to get richer - making things even worse. The GOP is perfectly content to make the situation even worse by shifting tax burdens on to those least able to afford them. We see this time and again.

That is on the GOP, not Obama.

There’s also the email scandal, which likely won’t result in criminal charges, but which shows Hillary Clinton worried more about opponents playing ‘gotcha’ games than she did about protecting classified information from foreign rivals.

Editorial bias is not something Americans justify and excuse. Newspapers should report news. The opinion pages are a place for the paper’s leadership to express their discontent with a given candidate. Taking spoon-fed talking points from the GOP and reporting them as news (see: email scandal, Iraq war justification) is not what the press should do. It IS what they do, in large part, because it creates the story they can later ‘report’ on as journalists.

The cop would at minimum disarm the kid at gunpoint and frankly the cop would have to. Because from a distance that looks like a standard Beretta Model 92 FS, which the US Army uses as the M9. A cop sees that, he could be looking at a the prelude to a school shooting for all he knows, so he has to take action.

That does not mean a police officer seeing that should fire without warning. But a cop seeing a kid with that airsoft gun would have to assume it was a real gun.

I, barely, remember the kerfuffle up here in Canada when we changed our flag.

Nobody liked the new one. Now disliking it is one of those things that ‘are just not done.’

Of course I don’t get a vote on the New Zealand flag, but I think they should keep the Southern Cross on there, like two of the designs have, just for an Australasian look.

Tamir Rice would disagree if he could.

And here I am on the left coast. One thing; the prices for a ride in one of these aircraft are eye-opening. OTOH, thirty years ago I paid the eye-opening price of $200 for a ride in a Hawker Sea Fury. You could buy a running car then for not much more money. It was worth it. If you’ve ever fancied a ride in one of these aircraft, do it now. There are fewer of them flying every year.

In Missouri:

Police say a man stole a rifle and an American flag from a Springfield home, and then — holding both — went door-to-door screaming that he was looking for his wife and child.

Vernon Jordan, 49, was charged Tuesday with burglary, stealing a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Police say they contacted a woman on Monday in the 900 block of West Woodlawn who had found a rifle in her backyard, but didn’t know who put it there. She told officers that she had seen a shirtless man walking away from her home, however.

A neighbor of the victims of the alleged burglary said she had seen a man in the backyard of 2526 N. Franklin Ave. and confronted him.

The woman told police the man had said he was with the military, and that “she better not get in his way or he would take care of her.”

He then jumped a fence and left the yard. The woman said she found some mail the man had dropped that belonged to the residents of the house at 2526 N. Franklin Ave.

There was Aveline de Grandpre in Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation. She was the example brought up a lot last year during the Unity controversy, and a lot of people pointed out that as a portable title not using the distinctive gameplay of the Assassin’s Creed console entries, she really wasn’t so much an Assassin’s Creed protagonist as she was an Assassin’s Creed character in another game based on Assassin’s Creed. Still, de Grandpre was pretty badass.

Do I need to point out that Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation was so successful that it ended up being ported to the PC and consoles? And the gameplay wasn’t that different.

Leave it to Dragon Age: Inquisition, who gave us the first openly LGBT character on the game box

1. Anything that is in the world when you’re born is normal and ordinary and is just a natural part of the way the world works.

2. Anything that’s invented between when you’re fifteen and thirty-five is new and exciting and revolutionary and you can probably get a career in it.

3. Anything invented after you’re thirty-five is against the natural order of things.

I’m an American citizen that lives in England. What is to stop me from donating to any Republican candidate and having them send me a thank you for donating letter with my UK address on it, filming it and using that to scandalize a Republican candidate?

How about this- In Israel, the city of Ramleh, which gets confused a lot with Ramallah (Palestinian city in the West Bank), even by the local Israelis, is a short drive away… So I’m thinking, someone sends a donation to Trump and other GOP candidates with a thank you card in both English and Arabic; how fast do you think there would be a scandal once it hit the web? I’m betting on a factor of seconds, not minutes…

Will Palin take a stand on Denalification of Alaskan heritage?

GREAT FALLS, Mont. — The Secret Service has selected a fitting enough code name for Gov. Sarah Palin: “Denali,” same as the Alaska national park and preserve famed for its mountain peaks and wildlife. Perhaps even more perfect is their code name for former oil slope worker Todd Palin — “Driller.” McCain and Palin have made drilling for oil a central part of their platform, so much so that “Drill, baby, drill!” is now a regular McCain-Palin rally chant. The names aren’t exactly state secrets; although the Secret Service doesn’t advertise them, the names are generally symbolic, with the service relying on more sophisticated methods to safeguard protectees. McCain is “Phoenix” and his wife Cindy is “Parasol.” Sen. Barack Obama is codenamed “Renegade,” while his wife, Michelle — in keeping with the theme of selecting code names for spouses that begin with the same letter — s “Renaissance.”
Sen. Joe Biden’s handle remains unknown, though he has joked he’s so boring it could just be plain old “Joe.” Denali is word that comes up with some frequency in the commercial world. It’s the name of a luxury model of GMC SUVs, the great Mastodon from “Gumby” and a computer project that “enables hosts to safety execute untrusted applications,” particularly in “virtual machines,” according to The University of Washington.

Wondering who is in charge of the Casey County Clerk’s office while Casey Davis is riding his bicycle everywhere that is NOT Casey County, playing Christian martyr. (He’s refusing to issue marriage licenses even though not a single SSM license has been requested there.)

A fellow Kentucky clerk, Casey Davis, has protested alongside Kim Davis and insisted Tuesday on CNN’s “New Day” that “we’ve not tried to prevent” same-sex marriages, and “we’ve only tried to exercise our First Amendment rights.”

Casey Davis said gay couples could go to another county to get married when a county clerk objects due to religious beliefs.

“There was a lot of people that died for that right and I think we should be able to exercise it,” Davis told CNN’s Alisyn Camerota.

Casey Davis is now riding his bicycle from Louisville, Kentucky to the West coast to raise awareness for what he described as an assault on religious liberty.

It is a symbol of humility and reverence to cover one’s head in G-D’s presence. The word is derived from Yirah M’Elokah “Fear of G-D”

Paul took that concept and flipped it, which is why Christians uncover their heads in church.

Not bad, except for the height. LBJ was 6’4”. Cranston is only 5’11”. IRL that’d be a pretty significant difference, but movie magic can minimize that 5 inch difference.

LBJ routinely used that height to his advantage with the LBJ stare (especially when chain smoking cigarettes), he’d tower over those he was speaking with and getting into their personal space in order to intimidate them into accepting a position LBJ was taking.

If I remember when I get home I’ll try to post the statement by Matthew Vines—a gay evangelical Christian—on the Kim Davis situation. Short version: He laments Davis’ use of Christianity in this way but condemns those who have responded harshly to Davis, i.e. body shaming; encourages LGBT and their allies to respond in a loving manner and to take the long view, while also noting gracefully that Davis is a person of little power who will eventually be a footnote in history.

If Tom Cruise (5’7”) can play Jack Reacher (6’5”) Bryan Cranston can sure play LBJ.

MrBWS watched that movie and apparently I made a face.

Hollywood magic can fix anything.

It is a symbol of humility and reverence to cover one’s head in G-D’s presence. The word is derived from Yirah M’Elokah “Fear of G-D”

Paul took that concept and flipped it, which is why Christians uncover their heads in church.

Christian *men*. Up until quite recently, women were expected to cover our heads in church. That’s from a verse in the New Testament which could mean that, or women wearing long hair like Kim Davis (and yes, since she is an “Apostolic Christian” that is exactly why she has long hair), or various religious groups where women wear caps or cover their hair completely. (1 Corinthians 11: 4-10) Or you could be like a lot of people and say that Paul was just talking to Corinth and didn’t mean the USA two millennia later.

I take a more sympathetic view of Henry. Having just come out of a long, bloody dynastic war, I understand his obsession with siring a male heir. And he broke the power of the Church over England, the Church by this time having become corrupt and entirely too powerful. We often judge Henry’s actions by modern standards, but really, he was practically the first English King of the post-Medieval era.

And it’s hard to believe that his daughter, Bloody Mary Tudor, doesn’t rank right up there. Too short a reign, perhaps. And his OTHER daughter was one of England’s greatest monarchs - no Henry, no Elizabeth.

Charles, there may be a bug related to embedding tweets in a private comment directed to a user. It appears to add an extra “>” after the second HTML tag, so it shows as %%TWEE%% for some reason. Editing and removing the extra carrot lets the tweet display as normal.

I read somewhere that Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is 6’5”, and Vin Diesel is about 5’10”, but in the F&F movies, you’d never know it.

Also, Martin Freeman is not 3’ tall, and Benedict Cumberbatch is not, in fact, a dragon. So, there’s that.

Heh.

Good to see the President is going to be able to slide the Iran Agreement through. Looks like we will have a nice American Holiday weekend for all the Republicans to bitch about it. They will be laboring to explain why this is bad, bad, bad…and of course will fail to mention much of our issues with Iran can be traced back to USA political fuckery for a good portion of the 20th Century.

I hope the Iran Agreement turns into a nice deal and hopefully leads to some cooperation with Iran and the West so that maybe Iran can get back around to the country it was before the 80s. It would also be nice for it to be successful so it is another wrong prediction by the GOP Warriors.

I have that sometimes when I have a lot of Vines playing in the LGF arkle I have open. Just find each and pause and it should go away. Perfect excuse to read every comment and not scroll to the end :3

I already do that from previous lessons of threads with lots of Vines. My issues with the site yesterday were unlike anything I’ve had happen before. Today it is a bit better, but I do notice clicking on links and the like still takes time to open.

I’ve even made sure my anti-virus wasn’t causing the issues.

I’m hoping it is something that Charles discovers and it clears up.

Same here. I pushed back against one person who says that war has been declared on cops. Typical claptrap from everybody responding to my pushback. BLM is racist because a few idiots at the MN state fair spewed idiocy. It doesn’t matter that police deaths are at historical lows because of rhetoric from idiots counts more. Gun control is not the answer. Yadda, yadda, yadda.

Fox guest stumps O’Reilly: Cop shootings are down — does #BLM get credit for that?

“There are fewer cops shot this year than last year than last year,” Moskos replied. “Are you willing yo give Black Lives Matter credit for that? Cop shootings are down.”

“I know they’re down slightly,” the Factor host said.

“They’re down 17 percent,” Moskos continued.

“In August, they’re up,” O’Reilly said.

“The month before, there were none,” Moskos countered. “Overall, they’re down. So I don’t see an epidemic there.”

Me thinks BllO doesn’t understand Statistics 101. Yes, they may have been up in August but overall they’re down. Oh and the people who kill cops are still indicted, don’t have a large part of the media attempting to justifying their deaths, and people who say “Well they were no angels.” That’s what the “Blue Lives Matter” people simply refuse to get. Cop killers are being indicted. Cops who kill unarmed black people? It’s a small miracle if they’re even indicted let alone convicted.

Has President Obama or anyone in the administration said that cops deserve violence against them and that people who kill cops shouldn’t be indicted? Oh no? What’s that, they’ve actually condemned violence against cops too. So shut the fuck up about how the administration and president is supporting violence against cops. If anything, it’s a joke that the cop killers are punished more harshly than people who kill civilians.

While this list doesn’t break out the number of deaths due to homicide, but rather lists all deaths in the line of duty, the figure of officers killed is frankly all over the place.

The 2015 stats illuminate that very point. Firearms related deaths in line of duty are down, while vehicle-caused deaths were way up.

Total fatalities for 2015 are at 85 through today. For same period in 2014, there were 73, and that’s nearly entirely attributable to higher vehicle fatalities (like an officer being struck by a vehicle that was up 10 from 28 to 38), especially since firearms deaths were down 13% (from 30 to 26).

So, Obama would need 7 more to filibuster a vote by the R’s on the Iran deal. Here are the undecided/undeclared. Since I don’t think any R’s will vote to filibuster, probably all 7 would need to come from remaining 10 D’s. Might be too much to hope for now that he has the votes he needs to sustain a veto. The order she has defied is not the Supreme Court’s action on Monday, but the August 12 order by Judge Bunning that she resume licensing marriages. That is the order that the Supreme Court — and, earlier, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit — had left intact.

Although it appears at this point that the judge’s order may apply only to the four couples who sued the clerk after being turned away, the couples’ lawyers — in a separate filing on Tuesday — asked the judge to explicitly expand his order so that it would apply across the state, and include any same-sex couples who apply for official permission to wed.

Although Davis is the only county clerk in the state who has consistently refused to issue marriage licenses since the Supreme Court in late June opened marriage equally to same-sex couples, other clerks have asked the state’s governor to seek legislation to protect others who object to licensing for same-sex couples.

Although Davis’s case may in time return to the Supreme Court, it will be unfolding this week and in coming weeks first in Judge Bunning’s court and in the Sixth Circuit.

re: #516 Fourth Football of the Apocalypse

Ugh, why?

Because Davis’ lawyers will want to push the case, regardless of the outcome - because they’re beating a dead horse quite and truly dead.

And the Court’s essentially telegraphed their intention if that happens - a swift spiritual kick indicating that you don’t have a 1A right to impose your religious views on others through your official govt position. That’s a de facto violation of the 1A. Either do your job, or find another one that suits your religious proclivities.

I hear Hobby Lobby has a opening for cashier. Because that’s about all that Davis seems qualified to do. If even that.
