This is an epic Trump lie on “legislative approvals.” First of all, Truman doesn’t have the record. Second, Trump has signed fewer bills than: Eisenhower, Kennedy, Nixon, Carter, Reagan, H.W. Bush, Clinton, W. Bush, and Obama. pic.twitter.com/44dp6rbRkY

People have speculated that Russia/Trump have something on Lindsey Graham to make him do a complete 180. Indeed, I wonder if his using exactly the same language he used to describe Trump last year in his attack on the newsmedia for making Trump out to be a ‘Kook’, and ‘unfit for office’ was the equivalent of blinking SOS.

There’s a notion that the opioid epidemic is a “white” epidemic (which is then cited for the argument that we care about it only because its victims are white.)
But that is wrong. Fentanyl’s angel of death is claiming black lives at horrific rates, too. https://t.co/HNhXDhMvix— Alec MacGillis (@AlecMacGillis) December 22, 2017
IOW, all the concern over those poor white people killing themselves with opioids, and how lives are being ruined can now morph into Crack Cocaine II, and punish black people again, which is really what Jeff Sessions wanted anyway.

I can definitely see that. As a guy, if a woman were a Trump supporter, I’d have to conclude she was either openly or unconsciously racist, and probably stupid. If I were a woman, I’d have to conclude a male Trump supporter is not only openly or unconsciously racist and probably stupid, but also lacks any respect for women.
If I were a gay man or a lesbian, I’d have to conclude that any potential partners who supported Trump were also self-loathing.

Under Mike Mulvany, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s new primary mission is to hunt down “outdated, unnecessary or unduly burdensome” regulations. Which means its open season on consumers.
Welp…

The CFPB’s webpage still lsits it’s function as thus:
Our core functions
The CFPB was created to provide a single point of accountability for enforcing federal consumer financial laws and protecting consumers in the financial marketplace. Before, that responsibility was divided among several agencies. Today, it’s our primary focus. Our work includes:
Rooting out unfair, deceptive, or abusive acts or practices by writing rules, supervising companies, and enforcing the law
Enforcing laws that outlaw discrimination in consumer finance
Taking consumer complaints
Enhancing financial education
Researching the consumer experience of using financial products
Monitoring financial markets for new risks to consumers
We’ll see if that changes.

Pretty cool: I build a box with four electrical outlets controlled by raspberry pi. The box turns the outlets on and off through various sequences. It’s designed to control outdoor lights, because of the clicking you can hear from the mechanical relay, which is able to handle 10 amps. I’ve made it so it works when turn the power onto the box, so you don’t have to log in.
I might later try to build one with fuses so I can use an optocoupler. They have a lower amp rating. I blew one of those earlier because my son plugged in a fog generator into one of the outlets.

The changes don’t stop there. In addition to his signature, Trump’s name appears three times on the coin, which is thicker than those made for past presidents. And forget the traditional subdued silver and copper: Trump’s coin, a White House aide marveled, is “very gold.”
The aide said the president, whose real estate properties are known for their gilded displays of wealth and status, was personally involved in redesigning the coin. Trump, who also had a hand in creating his famous red campaign hat, “wanted to weigh in on it,” the aide said. “It’s beautifully made.”
Because what we really need is a president that literally gilds everything so we can truly have the Neo-Gilded Age.

This is asshole Mike Cernovich’s Ask Me Anything on Reddit. Oh boy, is it hilarious. They tear him a new one something bad.
Today is a very special day for me for a couple of reasons.
First, yesterday was the winter solstice…the shortest day of the year. Up here in Alaska, the next couple of weeks will be gaining less than a minute of daylight a day but, as we move further into Spring, the days will quickly gain nearly 5 minutes of additional daylight every day. The days will be getting longer very quickly. Winter solstice is a BFD here in Alaska.
The second reason, and probably more important, is today is my birthday. I am now LXXV having “survived” 3/4 of a century. I know, I’m as surprised as the rest of you. That a lot of real, live history to have lived through.
I believe I’m one of the older posters here at LGF so I’m going to put on my “Senior Sage and Wisdom” hat and offer some wise advice. Over the past few weeks I’ve seen a lot of “Doom and Gloom” postings about the future of the United States of America. Just STOP THIS CRAP!!!
Take some time to look at our history:
In the 1860’s the Nation nearly came apart with the Civil War….and, The Unites States of America survived.
In October of 1929 the stock market crashed leading to the Great Depression….and, the United States of America survived.
On December 7, 1941, Pearl Harbor was attacked leading the USA into World War 2….and, the United States of America survived.
On November 23, 1963, President Kennedy was assassinated….and the United States of America survived.
These are just a small sample of the difficulties our country, the United States of America, has endured during our 241 years of existence. Think about what our citizens thought in the days and weeks after these events.
Did they give up?
Did they drown themselves in buckets of sorrows?
HELL NO!!! They buckled down and moved forward.
Contrary to popular belief, the vast majority citizens of the United States of America are compassionate, caring, and loving people. Most of our fellow citizens will continue to advance and make the corrections sorely needed in today’s environment.
Today we are living in what will be known as “The Lost Years of the trump Administration”. The Republicans have sent the country into a black hole. But, over time, we will recover. Some have said it will take a year to recover for each month trump is in office. Not true. What trump and the Republicans have demolished can be quickly repaired by a Democrat WH and Congress. Trumps EO’s can be undone with just a new and revised EO. The trumpettes in the Executive Branch can be fired on the first day of a new administration. Removing trumps Judges will take a little longer, but I foresee many of trump’s Judges, being as incompetent as they are, being kicked off the bench for improprieties. And, there are plenty of current common sense Judges, having been appointed by prior administration, still serving.
So, stop all the doom and gloom thoughts and start working for a better future for the good ‘ol USA!!

I went for a 10k run this morning. It was at best like 55, which is fine for a lot of places but kind of chilly on my toes.
Although granted I did the 8k in Chicago over Thanksgiving and that was in the 30s-40s. But I at least wore socks for that.
I am so grateful for the running right now because I have been cooking ALL THE THINGS to cope with everything and made 6 dozen cookies on Wednesday and well. I’m doing an excellent job of maintaining weight. :)

What is the price of freeedom? About 6 billion, out of your 18.7 billion.
Saudi authorities are demanding at least $6 billion from Saudi Prince al-Waleed bin Talal to free him from detention, people familiar with the matter said, potentially putting the global business empire of one of the world’s richest men at risk.
The 62-year-old prince was one of the dozens of royals, government officials and businesspeople rounded up early last month in a wave of arrests the Saudi government billed as the first volley in Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s campaign against widespread graft.
The Saudi government has disclosed few details of its allegations against the accused, many of whom have since been released from detention in a makeshift prison at the Riyadh Ritz-Carlton after negotiating financial settlements. The $6 billion Saudi officials are demanding from Prince al-Waleed, a large stakeholder in Western businesses like Twitter, is among the highest figures they have sought from those arrested, some of the people familiar with the matter said.

This would not have gotten out if it weren’t for Brent Adams (@brent338). He worked for @samhaskell for 3 years & was disturbed by what he saw/heard, so he started saving emails. What is a “legislative approval”?
Trump just said he had 88 “legislative approvals”. I don’t know what that means. Can someone please tell me what that means?

I actually know what he means here: he uses “legislative approvals” to mean “bills passed and signed.” His total includes things like post-office renamings. https://t.co/lc0PHkiIS6

Chelsea Handler, who has no connection with Kentucky, describes Jim Gray, the openly gay mayor of Lexington, a “wealthy establishment male”. But Democrats should back Amy McGrath because she’s an “ideal female candidate”.
I like Amy McGrath, I like Jim Gray. It helps nothing to pit personalities and fling insults. And it’s doubling insulting to assert that gender should be the deciding factor.

Tennesseans will be allowed to bring their guns to the new home of the legislature but must leave any hand-held signs behind, according to a recently implemented policy.
The policy, which Lt. Gov. Randy McNally, R-Oak Ridge, and House Speaker Beth Harwell, R-Nashville, approved Dec. 14, expressly prohibits “hand-carried signs and signs on hand sticks” because they “represent a serious safety hazard.”

I’ve never understood the supposed “national security” screaming around Uranium One. It amounts to less than 20% of the uranium extracted in a year, it’s low-quality (i.e. has to be extra refined), and the US imports most of its commercial-grade uranium for power generation anyway. But the way the wingnuts talk about it, you’d swear we sold Vlad our entire stockpile of weapons-grade uranium.

True story. My youngest moved to a older home in an older part of Denver. The medical and recreational laws were in effect, and the underground MJ market was always in full bloom. Ha. His next door neighbors were there for about 6 months after he moved in and he said they had a lot of activity coming and going. He thought some dealing was going down. Quietly. They moved out, and the new couple who moved in were very friendly and both parties are 420 cool….so…..One day his new neighbor came over and showed my boy a container just like that Cheese Ball one in the pic. Half full. Because…It was full.. Once…when they found it…From the previous. They forgot it. They had that much. Kush.

Awesome story…in my younger days when I bussed tables I worked with a waiter who had been a farmer. His apartment had every closet packed with bags of nuggets. He sold one bag to furnish his place…jesus we got B-A-K-D Baked! at his place after work. It was a great time to be in my early 20s. He’d give me a 1/2 ounce sometimes and say, “Tips were light at the restaurant tonight…hope this fills the gap.”
Apropos of nothing else, I picked up a spherical ice cube tray at the Surly Table yesterday. Just had my first Manhattan with one of those frozen baseballs in it. So nice having one big cube.
