The new SCOTUS appointment has the potential to have a far greater impact on people’s day to day lives than nearly anything that Trump has done to date or is contemplating doing—the attempt to re-instate the ability for insurance carriers to discriminate based on pre-existing conditions being the only one with possible greater significance.

this is true
and lets understand this as a single isolated thing
kennedy was luck or fate or timing. no one played the refs or did anything underhanded. its been clear for quite some time that this could happen. we all talked about it before the election. (merrick garland not withstanding)

in and of itself, an opening, maybe 2 was likely to happen under any circumstances
im not saying its good in any way. only that it was somewhat forseeable
People seem to forget that SCOTUS justices can be impeached, and with seemingly a low bar to warrant it based on actual historical precedent.
Samuel Chase was impeached by the House of Representatives for…. no not corruption or treason or murdering children… but for “being too partisan and biased in his rulings”. The Senate cleared him, but it seems obvious to me that getting both houses of Congress could potentially undo the whole “fucked for decades” thing really fast if the Democrats can grow a spine.

Light moment anyone?
The Daily Mirror reports that photographer Nicolas Chinardet had been commissioned by QX Magazine to photograph members of an LGBT Christian group at a central London church for a feature article.
Chinardet posted on his Facebook page that he was “shooting a few Christians,” and apparently that phrasing ran afoul of Facebook’s text-analyzing algorithms. 30 minutes later, the photographer’s account was suddenly suspended for 24 hours without any means of appeal. He then took to Twitter to express his frustration with the ban.

1. Due to Trumps Tariffs, they’re almost certainly paying more for parts and raw materials (or soon will be)
2. They’re hit with tariffs on exports motorcycles produced in the US

I was just arrested with 500+ women and @WomensMarch to say @RealDonaldTrump’s cruel zero-tolerance policy will not continue. Not in our country. Not in our name.
June 30 we’re putting ourselves in the street again.

I need Jefferson Davis Bureagrard Sessions to tell me again about how all the uncivilness is because of “the other side”.

He’d have no problem lying to you unfortunately.
re: #12 Charles Johnson
Not gonna lie - I’m seriously depressed about the future of the US today. If Trump gets to appoint another right wing justice, and he probably will, we are simply fucked. For a long, long time. There’s not going to be any quick fix for this.
Sure, stay strong. Keep fighting. Et cetera. I’m not giving up. But the tiny flame of hope is in danger of flickering out.
nah. we’ll pack the court. seriously. there is absolutely no reason we can’t have 11 justices on the court. the other issue will be that IF Trump is both impeached and removed, his picks will be politely and quietly asked to resign. It would be intolerable for it to turn out that the Manchurian Candidate gets two lifetime picks to control 1/3 of the checks and balances.
That was also an Infowars catch-phrase. They offered $200,000 to anyone that wore an “CNN is ISIS” T-shirt on television.
My country really sucks right now. https://t.co/LyYDzsaYsU— Speculawyer 🇳🇴-American (@speculawyer) June 28, 2018
This is both not true and extremely damaging to American national interests. Stop it Mr. President. And why aren’t any of Trumps foreign policy advisors stopping these statements? Is the inter-agency process for making US foreign policy completely broken now? https://t.co/bAn1VhjWkO

If Trump is gone the GOP remains, but your sermon sounds nice.
They deal with him in large part because of the court. The Kochs, Mercers and a bunch of entrenched powers are not going to quietly let them resign.
re: #33 dangerman
this is true
and lets understand this as a single isolated thing
kennedy was luck or fate or timing. no one played the refs or did anything underhanded. its been clear for quite some time that this could happen. we all talked about it before the election. (merrick garland not withstanding)
trump is president
he gets to do this
and it sucks
and yes garland/gorsuch makes it worsein and of itself, an opening, maybe 2 was likely to happen under any circumstances
im not saying its good in any way. only that it was somewhat forseeable
Exactly. People are going to have to learn the hard way that voting for Republicans or voting third party in general elections is voting for Judge Borks’ America.
re: #40 sagehen
If it gives anybody a bit of hope…. let me point out that Earl Warren, Sandra Day O’Connor and David Souter all turned out to be not nearly as conservative as the presidents who appointed them expected.
The US right has learned from these problems, and now dispenses much more reliable products (Alito, Gorsuch).
re: #101 Big Beautiful Door
When the Democrats regain power, they simply must add two seats to the Court to restore balance. Its not a radical suggestion; the GOP ended all norms when they stole the seat from Garland.
If they have the votes for that, they would have the votes (but probably not the spines) to impeach all Trump judicial appointments. If the election of 2016 is proven to be fraudulent, such housecleaning would seem to be a no-brainer.

There’s this too, if impeaching any of them seems to be a Bridge Too Far.
