Repubs: “Why won’t Democrats work with us on a bipartisan bill?!”

Dems: “Okay, so we’re looking at increased spending to help people cope with the crisis…”

Repubs: “Yeah, no, we were thinking like sending out a whole bunch of bootstraps to those folks while paying for another huge bailout to big businesses…”

Dems: “Alright, fuck this, we’re going forward with our bill.”

Repubs: “WHY WON’T YOU WORK WITH US?!”

Did anybody catch this? Singaporean authorities were successful in foiling a plot of another Christchurch-style massacre of two mosques in the city-state. And the suspect is 16! And he was self-radicalised via the Internet, and people still want to pretend that right-wing extremism doesn’t exist even after January 6th

I do believe this may just be the best explanation I’ve seen yet regarding the recent stock events:

Best, not accurate. xD

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem refused to acknowledge Thursday that Democrat Joe Biden defeated her close Republican ally Donald Trump in a free and fair election, instead using the opportunity to criticize Biden’s actions since taking office,” the AP reports.

Best explanation? The people who blew up the stock market back in ‘08 are losing a shit-ton of their own money…and they think there should be a law against that.

na-na-na-na-na cat photo!

Current food experiment:
Sweet Potato Hasselback. Has some potential but still a bit more work to prepare as compared to just baking them with the skin rubbed with a bit of olive oil. (Could doing something like add maple syrup similar to a squash hasselback recipe I’ve had. But that might well be too sweet. Those suggesting marshmallow instead… no. Just no.)

“Maybe you do not care much about the future of the Republican Party. You should. Conservatives will always be with us. If conservatives become convinced that they can not win democratically, they will not abandon conservatism. The will reject democracy.”

As the late end of Gen-X falling into most of that as well and being a fan of the video maker already I agree with most of this.

Just one thing. Can we please stop using the term “Neo-liberal”? As soon as I hear anyone say that term it takes an almost herculean feat of strength for me to not tune them out.

It’s meaning is lost. It means whatever derogatory thing the person saying it want’s it to mean. It’s helped the left turn the word “liberal” into a slur that it shouldn’t be far worse than then anything the RWNJs have.

WTF

“At any time before the inauguration”? There’s no way that’ll ever fly. The Constitution says the envelopes shall be opened and the votes shall be read, and that has to happen in order for there to be a President-elect to inaugurate. The AZ GOP is just making good on their threat to prove themselves the craziest sons (and daughters) of bitches on the whole funny farm.

This is hedge funds shorting stocks; 2008 was banks involved in sub-prime market and investment banks packaging CDO’s and selling them to investors. Totally different type of strategies. This is a small event with only individual hedge fund(s?) going bankrupt, not major institutions threatening the stability of the banking system.

It also would fly in the face of the “Safe Harbor” provision of the Electoral Count Act, which puts this proposal in potential violation of the Supremacy Clause.

Yeah, I thought about the safe harbor provision, but forgot about the Supremacy Clause bit. As our friends at #lawtwitter would say, “That’s a bit of a problem.”

Sounds to me like something ALEC is trying to push. They are working to repeal the 17th Amendment to the Constitution (the one that lets the people vote for Senators). They hate the thought of anyone other than wealthy white property owners having the right to vote.

If we don’t eliminate the Electoral College, these fantastical schemes will continue to propagate.

That would sort of work for a striped cat. Especially an orange one.

Er, yes, I knew all of this. That wasn’t the point of my post, which was to point and laugh at how the guys who made a fortune against those sub-prime mortgages, knowing that their failure would mean millions would lose money and possibly more, are now in very real danger of bankruptcy because somebody caught them trying to do it to a retail chain and turned it into an opportunity to watch a lot of hedge funds burn. And now are demanding not that shorting stocks/investments be regulated, but that people who catch and exploit such behavior be punished.

How can she be a train wreck for the GOP when they have proved that she is smack in the middle of the GOP mainstream?

Because she’s breaking the unwritten rule: She’s saying the crazy shit out loud. You’re only supposed to speak in code words and dog whistles.

It didn’t strike me that there would be overlap between the hedge fund guys and those involved in the subprime fiasco — totally different types of organizations were involved. Both bad actors taking advantage of the market rules for stock/bond investments — but different actors. I am being just too pedantic here.
