Agrawal, who saw Musk turn on him months ago, is set to receive the largest payout of $38.7 million, due largely to the entirety of his shares vesting upon his firing.

Ned Segal, Twitter’s chief financial officer, is set to receive a $25.4 million payout for getting fired.

Vijaya Gadde, the chief legal officer, will leave with $12.5 million.

Sarah Personette, the chief customer officer, would get $11.2 million.

Sometimes it pays to get fired. Twitter’s top executives stand to make a total of $88 million between them if Elon Musk ousts them. Here’s the payday for each executive. (BI via MSN)

However, the default split for donations made there is 99 percent to Trump’s political operation — and just 1 percent to Masters’ Senate campaign in one of the closest battleground races in the country. (Donors could choose to change the default split, but it requires clicking through a link written in smaller type and jammed between several more eye-grabbing colored boxes.)

Politico

The rest of the argument “could be a boon for Masters anyway” is bullshit

99%. Pigs

Wonder whether this attack is even on Elmo’s radar? If he had any sense, this would terrify him about his proposals to let “free speech” reign on his platform. Of course, O’Reilly incited a murder and never suffered any penalty for his words. Elmo may feel the same way — that the violence is not his problem; it’s those who commit the crimes who need to be punished but those who indirectly (or directly) instigate them are safe.

Maybe I shouldn’t be insulting the real and one and only Elmo; after all, he’s a good guy.

I don’t know if this is Stephen Miller’s new grift, or a very old one, but I got a snail mail flyer from America First Legal with overt race bating (Only Blacks and LatinX wanted. No whites or Asians wanted, etc), and hating on Biden.

Affirmative action in education is relatively unpopular (compared to many more progressive ideas) in California. The attempt to repeal a ban on affirmative action (Prop 16), lost by a slightly greater percentage than the measure to pass it (Prop 209 from 1996) originally did, despite the significant move to the left over the decades (Someone who has been in California for more than 20 years, please correct me.).

What’s far less popular is overt race bating.

I go to the website, aflegal . org (Not linking to it), which claims to be a conservative answer to the ACLU where I found Stephen Miller’s mug* on the front as President, with discussions of CRT, Immigration, “DOJ Politicization”, and standard far-right talking points.

*I’m really waiting for his mugshot.

Yeah, gonna have to do an ‘actually’ here. Diablo, the original, was set somewhere hell-like, DII was both on earth and in hell. DIII was a travesty that should never have been published. Blizzard lost their shit, in general, a while ago. WarCraft, the original and II and III, along with the first 10 years of WoW were great, but the company lost their soul after that.

Crush White Nationalism  Oct 28, 2022 • 12:50:18pm
Abstract
Conducting organic materials, such as doped organic polymers1, molecular conductors2,3 and emerging coordination polymers4, underpin technologies ranging from displays to flexible electronics5. Realizing high electrical conductivity in traditionally insulating organic materials necessitates tuning their electronic structure through chemical doping6. Furthermore, even organic materials that are intrinsically conductive, such as single-component molecular conductors7,8, require crystallinity for metallic behaviour. However, conducting polymers are often amorphous to aid durability and processability9. Using molecular design to produce high conductivity in undoped amorphous materials would enable tunable and robust conductivity in many applications10, but there are no intrinsically conducting organic materials that maintain high conductivity when disordered. Here we report an amorphous coordination polymer, Ni tetrathiafulvalene tetrathiolate, which displays markedly high electronic conductivity (up to 1,200 S cm−1) and intrinsic glassy-metallic behaviour. Theory shows that these properties are enabled by molecular overlap that is robust to structural perturbations. This unusual set of features results in high conductivity that is stable to humid air for weeks, pH 0-14 and temperatures up to 140 °C. These findings demonstrate that molecular design can enable metallic conductivity even in heavily disordered materials, raising fundamental questions about how metallic transport can exist without periodic structure and indicating exciting new applications for these materials.

One of my former co-workers from a previous job murdered his wife with a hammer and scissors. He changed weapons mid-murder, then left the body there and went out of town on business, meeting another of my former co-workers who said he seemed a little off, but not as off as someone with a corpse at home should be. The print advertising industry is small enough that I happened to have worked with the killer and the person he met on business at the same agency. They had both moved on by the time of the murder.

Changing weapons mid-murder and going out of town for work as if nothing happened freak me out more than just the murder itself. He seemed like a pretty chill guy. We were all very surprised by what he did. It taught me that I never know what a person is capable of.

New York Attorney General Letitia James has reached a first-of-its-kind arrangement in an investigation of child abuse cover-ups by the Catholic Church. The Diocese of Buffalo has agreed to secular oversight.

Seven other New York dioceses are under investigation by the Attorney General.

Catholic Diocese of Buffalo Will Submit to Government Oversight (New York Times, October 25, 2022)

The agreement, which is the first of its kind in New York, includes no financial penalties but instead mandates a series of structural reforms within the diocese, particularly regarding its handling of abuse allegations.

Under the deal, priests who have been credibly accused of abuse will be assigned an independent monitor with law enforcement experience to ensure they comply with a list of restrictions, which include a ban on watching pornography, performing priestly duties and having a post office box.

Those monitors will be overseen by Kathleen McChesney, a former high-ranking F.B.I. official who also led the child protection office at the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. As part of the settlement, two former Buffalo bishops, Richard Malone and Edward Grosz, will also be banned for life from holding any fiduciary role in a charity registered in New York.

So it turns out getting a muffler replaced on a Smart is not an easy task.

My wife on the Smart forum (she goes by the handle “Long Haul Smart”) ran into dozens of people looking for anyone who could change mufflers on a Smart, because Mercedes dealerships are short-handed on Smart mechanics. The shop we had our car in cannot even get the parts.

We called around as far away as Ft. Collins, Rapid City, and Lincoln, but no muffler shop could accommodate us.

I caved and tried the Mercedes dealership in Denver. Our last trip there (just before we went to Canada) didn’t work out so well because of a very long delay in getting an appointment. This time when I called them, they said “how about Wednesday?” So we’re off to Denver Tuesday afternoon. (The shop in Scottsbluff tried adjusting our low-beam headlights, and they won’t stay adjusted. The mechanic posited that Hurricane Fiona damaged them, and it would take him a long time to get replacement parts. That will get fixed in Denver as well. They have all the parts in stock.)

Phase Two will be the tires: There is only one shop in our area which can change the tires on our car. We’ll hit them up for a new set of tires next.

Phase Three is the auto body shop which repaired our car after I hit the elk in June. They can replace the hurricane-lost body parts on the starboard side of the car.

On Sunday, in one of the most vile sermons he’s ever delivered—and that’s saying a lot—Christian hate-preacher Jonathan Shelley told his congregation at Stedfast Baptist Church in Texas that we’d be “lucky” if the Holocaust really took the lives of six million Jews, that being Jesus-like meant spreading antisemitic hate, and that the biggest problem with the phrase “Judeo-Christian” was the “Judeo” part.

He also added that he wouldn’t shed a single tear if a terrorist murdered everyone in a gay bar, echoing what his colleague said after the Pulse nightclub massacre several years ago.

Anymouse 🌹🏡😷  Oct 28, 2022 • 5:56:36pm

To no one’s surprise.

About a year ago, US Sen. Ron Wyden (D- Oregon) released an internal Department of Homeland Security report detailing how the Department’s officials, including Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf, Acting Deputy Secretary Ken Cuccinelli, and Acting Under Secretary for the Office of Intelligence and Analysis Brian Murphy desperately worked to exploit the 2020 George Floyd protests in Portland, Oregon, in order to create and promote a narrative of the city being “under siege” by evil agents of Antifa.

At the time, though damning, the report was heavily redacted — but thanks to Sen. Wyden’s efforts, it has now been unredacted so that we may see the full extent of the DHS’s malfeasance during this time.

“Oregonians had a right to get a full accounting of the Trump Administration’s twisted efforts to provoke violence in Portland for his political gain,” Wyden said. “Now the public knows much more about how political DHS officials spied on Oregonians for exercising their First Amendment right to protest and justified it with baseless conspiracy theories. Undersecretary [Kenneth] Wainstein deserves credit for following through on his commitment to me to review the last administration’s unnecessary redactions and release these important details.”

“The report documents shocking, coordinated efforts by our government to abuse its power and to invade liberty in violation of the Constitution,” said Oregon federal public defender Lisa Hay. “In Portland, we were concerned that the government unconstitutionally collected information, including through the illegal search of protestors’ cellphones last summer. This report confirms that was their intent.”

The Portland Van Abductions

Some hours before he was abducted by a squad of feds in camouflage tactical gear, Mark Pettibone was playing a pickup game of Frisbee.

It was what had become a normal night for the summer of 2020 in Portland, Oregon. The city was now four months into the pandemic and two months into the ongoing protests against police brutality in the wake of George Floyd’s death.

All this AI stuff I find fun to play with, but the nagging question in my mind is how much will this hurt all of us?

Consider the AIs for writing.

Content at Scale advertises:

The first ever content automation platform that was built to scale content marketing by replacing the need to hire a team of writers.

“The output from the AI has beaten 36 out of 40 writers I’ve hired!”

Creating something new is already nearly impossible. Original thoughts are rare, and even more so when put on paper/screen.

I stated earlier that I think we’re only 10 years away from when TV and cinema are going to be transitioned to something other than they have been.

I think we’re even closer for writing, at least commercial writing. Given so much ad copy is already automatic how long before scripts for advertisements to be done likewise.

And when AI for animation makes a few more leaps, will there be need for actors?

Love-Child of Cassandra and Sisyphus  Oct 28, 2022 • 8:24:45pm

Trying out one AI writing bot, feeding it some Trump inanity to see what AI can do with it.

From Trump’s recent rambling: “Who is going to enter the Trump Quicksand? Many have tried, leaving permanently damaged, or never to be heard from again!”

Feeding that into the AI to see what different flavors it can create:

Enter the Trump Quicksand! Many have tried, leaving permanently damaged.

—-

Quicksand is a dangerous substance, its victims are often considered nightmarish. It is thought that if you fall into the Quicksand, it will destroy your body and soul. For example, many have tried, leaving permanently damaged, or never to be heard from again!

—-

The Trump Quicksand is perilous territory. It can swallow a person, forever trapping them in an underground world of darkness. If you fall in, you will never be heard from again!

—-

Who will be the first? The Trump Quicksand of Politics, or the individuals who are trapped in by political battles?

—-

Who Is Going to Enter The Trump Quicksand? If you are watching this video, you already know that! We might ask ourselves what is lost in the world by trying to get back up to the surface. But it is even worse if we don’t try at all!

—-

There are many who have gone before you, only to disappear forever….enter the quicksand of Trump’s world and you can be next!

—-
And my favorite:

Enter the Trump Quicksand and you may lose not only your dignity and reputation; but more importantly, your self respect. One wrong move can change everything about you in one moment!

The AI pumps out all sorts of options. Here’s another one:

Well, you see, I was going to run for president. Historically, most republican presidents and prime ministers have some sort of degree in government. This is good for two reasons: 1) It’s evidence of a long-term interest in the issues foremost in the job description, and 2) It shows one is capable of acquiring facts and learning from them. People who claim not to see any difference between republicans and democrats also tend to be stupid, but that’s a different story.

Most folks who try to spoof local numbers get it wrong (the last four digits start either with 0 or 9, and local calls here can still be made with seven digits, despite the national changeover to ten digits).

This is a dark time for the world. There are rumors of war between The Two Towers and The Ring’s minions. Trump, leader of the free world, tweeted that he’d be meeting with Azog to form an alliance against them.

Of course Trump will make an alliance with Azog.

The AI nailed it, what Trump really said in AZ:

My fellow Americans, we are indeed in a blissful era. We not only see an incoming Supreme Leader, but also a nice and kind congress who is prepared to use their powers to make him a happy man. By destroying incredibly annoying checks and balances, so that they can promote the cause of free-market orthodoxy around the world. It’s in this context that we bid farewell to a painful past: the one where people are calling for more regulation, democracy and human rights.

“These student-athletes can’t be negatively impacted by this,” 26-year-old Brown said. “We all must ensure they complete their senior yr both academically & athletically.”

Paul Pelosi Secretly Called 911 and Spoke in ‘Code’
politicalwire.com
“The San Francisco Police Department confirmed during a press conference on Friday evening that Paul Pelosi, husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, was somehow able to call 911 before being attacked with a hammer, allowing dispatch to respond,” Insider reports.

“Confirmation that Paul Pelosi made a 911 call came after media reports said he had secretly called 911 so that the intruder would not know and spoke in a way that would alert the dispatcher to what was happening without giving himself away.”

Depending on where you are, the police can be dispatched pretty quickly even without a message.

Back in the 1980s, I accidentally set off my Commodore 64’s modem to dial 911. Within a couple minutes, the Virginia Beach Police were at my door, even though I’d killed the call when the police dispatcher came over the speaker of my modem. I had to explain to the police I’d mistakenly directed my computer to dial 911, which got me a short tongue-lashing about frivolous waste of city resources.

In the case of high-profile politicians and their families, I imagine local police would respond even quicker.

GOP senator speaks at transphobic rally where people threatened to kill doctors (yesterday)

Signs read “Doctors who mutilate children should be killed” and “Homo sex is sin” at the rally Sen. Marsha Blackburn and other Republicans spoke at.

By the way, I thought Tulsi Gabbard said she’d rejected her previous anti-LGBT positions? Wait, she did, in 2019 in Politico, saying her statements were wrong and hurtful. Now she’s palling around with Sen. Marsha Blackburn and the “kill the gays” party.

White supremacists and Proud Boys joined other far-right politicians, pundits, and protestors at a recent “Rally to End Child Mutilation” in Nashville, Tennessee. Some of the protestors held signs supporting death and violence against doctors who provide gender-affirming care to transgender youth, and a Republican elected official was in attendance.

The rally, held at the city’s War Memorial Plaza on October 21, was organized by conservative podcaster and transphobe Matt Walsh. Walsh spoke at the event alongside Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), state lawmakers like state Sen. Jack Johnson (R) and state Rep. William Lamberth (R), former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard from Hawaii, a lawyer from the anti-LGBTQ hate group Alliance Defending Freedom, and other anti-trans activists. An estimated 1,500 to 3,000 people attended, according to varying media reports.

Federal funding for the Covid vaccine is about to end, but you’ll be happy to know that FEMA is still paying for funeral expenses.

FEMA COVID-19 Funeral Assistance State-by-State Breakdown (September 6, 2022)

WASHINGTON — FEMA has provided more than $2.7 billion to over 431,000 individuals and families to assist with COVID-19-related funeral costs for deaths occurring on or after Jan. 20, 2020. This assistance helped pay for the funerals of more than 441,000 people who died from COVID-19.

(more at FEMA)

For the Covid denying families, they first have to admit their family member actually died from Covid, and second they have to apply.

The chart breaks down payouts so far by state, and the number of applications.

Putin Appointed ‘Chief Exorcist’ as Kremlin Whips up Satanic Panic (Newsweek, October 26, 2022)

This is where the “desatanisation” of Ukraine came from. Patriarch Kirill designated Putin so-called Chief Exorcist.

The assistant secretary of the Security Council of Russia also accused the United States of trying to spread the Church of Satan in Ukraine.

The usual fake news chain.

Step 1: A Telegram channel posts a video in which Kirill rants against “globalism”, putting it into an eschatological context, thus of course mentioning the Antichrist, Russia, Putin, LGBT and whatnot. The channel itself claims that thus Kirill makes Putin into fighter against the Antichrist (even though Kirill does not actually mention any fight by Putin, he only mentions him as a president who openly professes his faith.)

Step 2: various websites don’t factcheck what the Telegram channel wrote and quote the channel’s interpretations as Kirill’s words.

Step 3: some of them tack the “exorcist” description on top of what the Telegram channel claimed, even though the word is also never mentioned in the video and its use would be extremely weird in this context simply culturally (despite exorcists existing in the Orthodox church). Which means it is merely their own description of what they perceive as Kirill’s message.

Step 4: clueless and oblivious Western outlets uncritically repeat what the dregs of the Slavic internet have brought to their porch, without any sort of factchecking, and also misinterpret these sources’ own formulations of Kirill’s message as Kirill’s direct words, despite the sources not having claimed that they were citing Kirill directly.

And so it goes.

Fantastic article in The New Yorker on China’s greatest grifter/possible agent Guo Wengui by Evan Osnos.

newyorker.com

On the afternoon of June 4, 2020, bobbing on a boat in New York Harbor, Guo and Bannon held a live-streamed press event to announce a joint initiative. The two were an unusual sight: the exuberant Chinese tycoon in a dark, double-breasted suit, alongside the glowering American with his rumpled silver hair and distinctive assemblage of collared shirts. The setting had been carefully arranged, with planes trailing banners overhead and Guo’s yacht and the Statue of Liberty in the background. The date marked the anniversary of the crackdown at Tiananmen Square.

Peering into a camera, Guo announced the establishment of a shadow government, which he called the New Federal State of China. In Mandarin, he made an impassioned call to arms. “We can’t keep dreaming anymore. We need to take action, action, action!” he shouted, slicing the air with his hand. Bannon, who does not speak Chinese, stood by awkwardly. In 2018, he had signed a yearlong deal with one of Guo’s companies for “strategic consulting services,” at a cost of a million dollars.

Barefoot Grin  Oct 29, 2022 • 5:08:22am

“I’m sure you’ve seen the pictures all over the Internet of people who have had these shots and now they’re magnetized,” Tenpenny said in her viral testimony. “You can put a key on their forehead—it sticks. School instructional fees for students consist of overdue lunch payments, technology fees, senior fees, student-basic fees, etc. If students don’t have a zero balance, they potentially could miss out on school dances, proms, driving to school or even graduation.

So they have to pay, what, to use the computer lab? To enroll in physics or chemistry? I don’t know what the fuck “senior fees” and “student-basic fees” might be, but… isn’t that something that’s part of what public schools are supposed to provide all their students?

So it’s not just that you don’t get to eat. If your parents are poor, you can’t take science classes or use the computers or go on field trips, you can’t play sports or join drama club or chess club, because we want to be damn sure that if your parents are poor when you’re little, you should be poor your whole life. We don’t want the schools to be responsible for helping your better yourself.

I can’t find a Tweet from a Big Brain I cannot find. He gave some evidence a lot of polling is by GQP firms and they’re flooding the zone with shit tweaking 538.

In my modest AM Hateradio listening over the last few weeks they are assuredly leading in all the polls and it’s going to be a monstrous red wave. I know they are always lying, the only question is how they are lying.

It’s going to be close.

And he’s still looking great for a kaiju.

I got my brother’s shopping list for Japan: he wants me to find and bring home a Mothra pillowcase or bedspread. (Yeah, he can buy them online from Ali Express, but he doesn’t want to buy it from China.) He also broadly hinted that if I could stuff a 3 foot Godzilla into my suitcase, that would be good too.

For my mother, he said I have to bring home “all the flavors of KitKats available.” It’s partially my fault. I inadvertently introduced mom to KitKats years ago when I was buying a dozen yogurts for her. I included a KitKat bar for me, it ended up in the bag, I shoved the yogurt bag into the vegetable crisper, didn’t take out the KitKat bar, and she ate it. She’d never had one. And then I brought home flavored KitKats from Japan and she was ecstatic.

We (the channel managers) have a lottery system at work because most of us have worked at the bank for a couple decades, so seniority is pretty well hardened. I don’t particularly care to want time off around the holidays*, but the lottery is good for me to be able to group together a few weeks (as I did here) so I could go off to Japan.

*I was on call last Christmas, I still went over to my mother’s house. I’m not that nuts.

Huh?

If there are mass layoffs/multiple people quitting you will have less chance of getting the time off you want.

Assuming you don’t move to a civilised country.
