TL;DR, Wisconsin police are investigating crime involved with stealing nude photos and videos from women’s volleyball team players and posting them to the Internet.
One possibility for what Musk is doing with Twitter is he’s using it to try to become a 21st century social media Hitler. The way Musk invokes the “voice of the people” (e.g. in his stupid push poll for the amnesty of right wing shitposters) reminds me of Hitler’s theme of pretending to speak for the German Volk.

Nothing says “I’m proud of my faith” by saying “we wish to remain anonymous (and get a tax break).
The $100 million for He Gets Us comes from The Servant Christian Foundation, a nonprofit backed by a Christian donor-advised fund called The Signatry. (Both declined to name the donors who helped envision and pay for He Gets Us, who want to remain anonymous.)
So as a 501(c)3, they are tax-exempt. They do have a Form 990 on file, where they show their distributions to various religious organisations (presumably to post adverts and for services rendered).
That means every non-Christian in the nation (Jews, Muslims, Hindus, pagans, atheists) is paying out of their own taxes to spread an explicitly Christian marketing campaign (which on their own Website says is aimed at Generation Z because they feel that generation will be lost without Jesus).
2021 grants and contributions to the foundation total $626,704,210, twice what 2020 was. That’s nearly a billion dollars in two years. All of it tax-exempt to spread an explicitly religious message rather than do things like feed the hungry or house the homeless.

The commercial I saw seemed to be trying to imply - very subtly - that Jesus doesn’t hate anyone for who they are - gay or trans in the commercial I saw - without directly coming out and saying it. The possibility I immediately thought was so that other Christian groups wouldn’t attack them.

According to the Christianity Today article I linked above, they’ve already failed there. Groups are saying they are watering down the message of Jesus as Deity, the marketers themselves try to equate Jesus as the savvy capitalist marketer, the 990 shows shittonnes of rental property income and government grants, &c.
There is no particular statement of faith to join their marketing campaign (any church can join).
By the way, breaking down my turkey and cooking the whole legs about an hour longer than the breast (at 325°) worked really well to get the dark meat properly cooked without drying out the breast. Plus, I did it a day ahead so I could use the spine for stock and drippings for gravy.
I’m going to have to make notes on what I did because I’ll forget by next year, and the internet is no help. Heritage turkeys apparently take either longer or shorter times to cook, and should absolutely be cooked at higher or lower temperatures than a regular turkey. Right.
But not tonight. After dinner for 12, I’m tired and think I’ll head off to bed.

If memory serves, apparently the Southern Baptist Convention was involved in a way with the “He Gets Us” campaign but backed out last month after right-wing crazies called up the “He Gets Us” referral line and learned they were referring people to LGBTQIA-friendly churches. At least that’s my memory, and I’m not in the mood to go look it up right now. But I know it was the usual suspects from Founders Ministries raising hell. *scowl*
Oh yeah, I knew about the foundation and in fact have the Form 990s here somewhere. I *really* want to know who is funding this thing. The foundation running this had something like $2 million in it before suddenly being converted into a vehicle for nearly $1 billion in funds to run a media campaign for Jesus. I definitely remember saying at the time I learned this that the money could be better spent on what Catholics call “corporal works of mercy,” but then again, advertising agencies would not benefit, and gee, what would the poor hucksters DO?

And in the war everyone forgot about over the invasion of Ukraine:
Local forces in north-east Syria have told the BBC that they may be forced to abandon camps holding Islamic State (IS) group detainees.
The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said they no longer have the capacity to guard the compounds if Turkey launched a fresh ground operation there.
Turkey has attacked hundreds of targets in the region in retaliation for a bombing in Istanbul.
At least six people were killed and dozens more were wounded in the blast.
Turkey has blamed the bombing on Kurdish separatists based in northern Syria.
The SDF - a mostly Kurdish militia alliance backed by the US - has denied any involvement in the attack, and has accused Turkey of using it as a pretext to justify a long-planned cross-border offensive.
On Wednesday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the strikes were “only the beginning” and that he was determined to secure Turkey’s border with Syria by establishing a “security corridor”.

Rapper Kanye West has said he intends to run for US president in 2024, despite facing several scandals over his recent behaviour. The star, who has legally changed his name to Ye, posted a video of his campaign logo to social media, alongside the caption Ye 24.
He also claimed to have asked Donald Trump to be his running mate.
West previously ran for president in 2020, but that campaign flopped, attracting a meagre 70,000 votes.
His latest claims came in a video posted after West was spotted at Trump’s Mar-A-Lago golf club earlier this week, accompanied by Nick Fuentes, a prominent white nationalist.
West said his request for a running mate left the former president, who recently launched his own re-election campaign, “most perturbed”.
In a video titled Mar-A-Lago Debrief, West claimed: “Trump started basically screaming at me at the table, telling me I’m going to lose. Has that ever worked for anyone in history?”

The real problem re insurance is not the cost or even making it mandatory.
It’s that it affixes responsibly and we can’t have that.
re: #203 wrenchwench
We need a whole lot more of that, to spread around. And getting some profit for the insurance industry produces support in Congress. It’s magic like that.
i have always been in favor of gun insurance. voluntarily.
there will never be votes for mandatory.
still, before insurance can even factor in, it has to be possible to hold people responsible. insurance won’t pay unless someone is liable.
right now people get away with all kinds of stuff with their guns and they are not held liable in any way.
an insurance company is not gonna pay out when the criminal and/or civil legal systems didnt hold someone responsible.
no.
first the laws to sue have to be changed. to have their assets and future at risk.
as easily and with as much of a predictable outcome as other liabilities/bodily injuries are now. and with cases that dont take 10 years to resolve.
if people’s hard earned stuff was at risk, a lot of them would seek insurance.
sure some wouldnt and instead choose to go bare. if they have assets, too bad.
and of them, some wouldnt have a lot of assets to threaten. that’s problematic.
the twisted interpretation of the 2A focuses on the “shall not be infringed”.
and in this political environment, there will never be 60 votes for anything.
that’s why i say make things voluntary.
no prior infringement or requirement to do anything.
but it’s also clear that the 2A doesnt mean your rights cant be ‘infringed’ after you behave badly. - illegally carrying, brandishing, shooting, killing etc.
overall, i think the threat of losing your freedom, finances, and future 2A privileges would be great motivators to enough people to get the violence numbers way down

Catching up:
On Thanksgiving: Good dinner last night with family. Listening to Jim and Ingrid Croce “Croce” album via Siri command then the dog show from Philadelphia because bad signal on football game channel. My breed was robbed 😎!
On Christmas decorations: My neighborhood is 1/3 decorated as of this AM We do the 25 days of Christmas December 1-26. Then we strike the set. A tradition I started years ago in a scorched earth, emotionally immature petulant fit on morning after Christmas because of cumulative family BS. I put away everything by 8 am except a small pile of trashed decorations not worthy of going back in storage.
The family comes out, initially shocked. I point to the pile and say hey if you want to prolong the season throw a tennis ball at those ornaments and destroy them. This turns out to be a really fun family exercise and then I took us all to breakfast.
The next year, I recall my dickishness, as I lay in bed on December 26 and I sleep in clean until 7:30
I walk out and the family is up and striking the set, placing a new small pile in a “The Lottery “ kind of way. Tradition!
Plus the house looks amazing afterwards, but yes many think we are freaks.

Look at that effort as simply a speeding up of the sewerization of Twitter. Makes it quite clear that Musk is not going to treat all accounts as equal. That the bias/prejudice that remains is one that advertisers want nothing to do with and that Twitter is now longer a place really useful to find information any longer.

My biggest fear. Believe it or nuts but this was entirely operator error and not a malfunction of the lift. Notice how they were able to stop the lift. If this had been a true rollback with catastrophic brake failure it would’ve kept rolling back faster and faster until the heavy side was empty, and many people would have died surely (no one died here, 10 were injured, two had to go the the hospital). This particular lift (in the country of Georgia) was repaired and runs to this day.

That looks like a lot of constant adaption work since instead of just having to adjust the pull of one API whenever it changes you’d be doing it for each of them.
Plus whenever said framework gets noticed I’d wonder if the various platforms might view it poorly, or as a threat to squashed and hindered as much as possible.

The list is a absurd by that measure. But don’t dismiss it. A mass flagging campaign has begun based on the list and is already claiming victory for a number of bans. It’s a sign far-right extremists see @elonmusk as a ally who will empower them and destroy their enemies. (2/2)

I make it easy for you. This way you don’t have to go through all of the car chases and assorted action sequences.

cats are by nature all fascists, so that would make all dogs antifa
On as Belafon@universeodon.com. There doesn’t seem to be a search feature on the mobile web page.

Kanye West announces 2024 presidential bid
Rapper Kanye West has said he intends to run for US president in 2024, despite facing several scandals over his recent behaviour.
The star, who has legally changed his name to Ye, posted a video of his campaign logo to social media, alongside the caption Ye 24.
He also claimed to have asked Donald Trump to be his running mate.
West previously ran for president in 2020, but that campaign flopped, attracting a meagre 70,000 votes.

I’m doing my mastodon setup from the web page desktop. Haven’t tried any mastodon mobile apps.
I’ve inferred from three weeks of poking around mastodon, the mobile apps, iOS & Android, are not as far along developmental-wise as the typical twitter mobile apps.
A quick search found the following comments on mastodon re mobile apps:
Metatext - The interface is nicely laid out and clean. How does this compare with other’s experience in app or web?
I like Metatext mostly. I think they should allow edit post. For some reason they don’t. And I can’t get the images to show the original image aspect ratio on it. It also doesn’t have the “explore” features I find here. Some other things might be missing too. But it’s good if I want to use my phone to access.
I started out on the Android Mastodon app, but found it rather clunky and unreliable. I now use the Web UI on all devices. Both the mobile and desktop versions are quite well designed, and they play well with the accessibility tools and settings I need as a vision-impaired user. The one pain point is the desktop web UI’s post/reply entry widget, which does not play well with a11y.
Oh good, it looks like the folks at Tapbots are working on a version of Tweetbot for Mastodon!
