It’s one of the big problems with Mastodon. There is a search feature but it only allows searching for users and hashtags. You can’t search the text of posts. This is by design. A very poor design.

Speaking of Amazon, for some reason I can’t get to Prime Music… it thinks I’m not a Prime subscriber. But then it prompts me to Try Prime, so I select that and it tells me that I’m already a Prime subscriber… and I get directed back to the Try Prime page.

Methinks something is broken.

On the very first day of the new Republican-led Congress, we will read every single word of the Constitution aloud from the floor of the House—something that hasn’t been done in years.

— Kevin McCarthy

As I recall from the last time, Republicans didn’t read every single word of the Constitution, because they dropped all the sections pertaining to slavery, such as the 3/5ths clause and the fugitive slave clause.

This time around, I’m guessing they’re going to spend extra time celebrating those sections.

the last time they read the constitution out loud (in 2011) they fucked it up by missing the 18th amendment

slate.com

and:

During the reading of the Constitution, because of an inadvertent double page turn, Section 4 of Article IV was skipped, as was a part of Article V. (It was entered into the record later.) The proceeding was interrupted by a protester questioning President Obama’s place of birth. And an argument began on the floor over the version of the Constitution being read, before a word of the preamble was uttered.

Republicans won enough seats during midterm elections to capture a slim majority in the House, but their ability to advance their agenda will face both practical and ideological challenges tied to such a historically small margin,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

With little wiggle room, party leaders will need the support of nearly every Republican to propel partisan legislation, giving each member more leverage to alter or block proposals.

You know who is really good at this?

Nancy Pelosi

Lift Update - Splice Complete | Al’s Blog, arapahoebasin•com

Back on November 4, I wrote a post that said the “lift will be done this month and maybe by Thanksgiving.” Mea Culpa. Whether I was overly optimistic or just underestimated how long it would take, I was wrong. Right now my best estimate is that the lift will be completed in Mid-December. I am bummed about the update, but want to be as straight forward as I can be. No one wants this lift completed and open more than me. Thanks for your patience.

Getting ready for a road trip tomorrow. The youngest has been staying with my wife’s cousin in DC since he landed a position with a firm there after he graduated college. He has since found an apartment and moved in. He was 21 years old before he even got his drivers license, and he really just doesn’t like driving. I had paid off my dads car after we had to take it away from him when the doctor said he shouldn’t be driving. I signed it over to th boy so he had a vehicle. His firm pays monthly for a public transportation pass for him. He doesn’t want the car anymore so he is bringing it back up today. Tomorrow we will take him back down to DC (about a 6 hour drive). I have a room booked at a place about an hour north of DC for wife and I for tomorrow night. Will be a quick little sightseeing and then drive back home Sunday.

Been off on PTO all week but have to get back to the grind Monday. All good things must come to an end.

re: #75 Dangerman

You’d think it would be a proud moment.

Nope.

This is how it always goes. See…the elite want the coercive power they hold over other to be invisible on one hand, but always want more coercive power on the other. As such they’re draw to authoritarian brutes whose rhetoric and deeds are open: they entertain the possibility that mobs and knouts would be a good accessory to acquire.

Even pre-WW2 the moneyed elite were racist shitheads that believe in natural hierarchy and hid their abuses out in colonies…but it was embarrassing to actually hang out with a guy who sold that idea in the public square to the petit bourgeoisie. Hitler got to hang out with people with money and they found him quaint and unsophisticated…but useful. The complete re-write of the history of the NSDAP downplays how often they got inside a velvet rope because the great and the good thought that they were manageable and useful…and couldn’t possibly take real power themselves.

Nowadays the layers of denial are even more cynical, because everybody knows that Nazis were sincere and what they’ll do with power…but the elite still want more coercive power, the allure has not gone, and it is literally part of their belief in inherent hierarchy that the elite imagine they’re the best, the smartest and axiomatically in control. This time they put a yoke on that lunacy and it will plow straight furrows.

(please pause at this moment to remember that these are not smart people, and the time and effort they seem to be putting into this does not mean it will work or address the problems they think it will address.)

What we’re watching is people playing chicken with eliminationist rhetoric: they already believe in eliminationism, but who’s going to say it loudest, make it the most explicit, without running for the cover of irony or “free speech.”

And so we’re going to see a lot of this—leaning towards an open eliminationist, someone Nazi in all but aesthetics, but leaving a minimal of deniability in place, leaning into “technically, you can’t prove I agree with this person.”

Here’s something the haters and baiters who gleefully defend Fuentes on Twitter need to consider: When those long-time, highly skilled Twitter employees were fired, what did they take with them when they left? I think it is very likely that the personal information of every white supremacist and Jew-hater on Twitter is now in the hands of committed anti-fascist activists.

Yeah, those old twitter employees who enjoyed banning people for calling neo-Nazis nutjobs and tolerated Holocaust-denying accounts accounts impersonating anti-deniers. They will surely show those fascists now! 😉

That would be a massive GDPR violation for which Twitter, the employee (if they ever came under EU jurisdiction — no holidays in France, guys), or anyone recieving the information would be liable.

‘QAnon Queen’ trashes RV rented from unsuspecting family — leaving it full of sardines

A Canadian couple rented their RV to a woman who then gave it to so-called “QAnon Queen” Romana Didulo, who later abandoned it badly damaged and needing thousands of dollars in repairs.

“They just left it in a mess,” Leblanc said. “They didn’t bother to clean out their food or the garbage or some of their supplies,” Leblanc said. “The slide is completely damaged. It can’t be opened or closed. There are issues with suspension.”

“Inside there was like food everywhere,” she added. “I think there was a sleeping bag they left behind. They left their sardines, naturally.”

Sounds “fishy” to me. I know I’m bad, I’m bad…

Half of Twitter’s top 100 advertisers appear to no longer be advertising on the website. A report from Media Matters for America states that these 50 advertisers have spent almost $2 billion on Twitter ads since 2020 and more than $750 million just in 2022.

Seven additional advertisers have slowed their advertising to almost nothing, according to the report, which was published on Tuesday. These companies have paid Twitter more than $255 million since 2020.
