Lyrics:

Isn’t this old night so nice
I hope you can feel what I feel tonight
Little boy’s not getting it right
Trying so hard with all his might

Clouds in the sky keeping the sun away
Doesn’t mean the sun is not shining today
Seems something is always in your way
You’ve got a wide, wide array of insurmountable problems every day

Hey, slip away, slide away
Into dreamland, dreamland
Slip away, slide away
Into dream, dream, dreamland, dream, dreamland

In your own private place of dreams
I hope you’ll find a place where it seems
The road is always straight and true
Wherever you walk is bright for you

I hope you’ll remember these times we share
Hope you’ll find some comfort there
In the meantime lose your cares
You can go anywhere, close your eyes and it will take you there

Slip away, slide away
Into dreamland, dreamland
Slip away, slide away
Into dream, dream, dreamland, dream, dreamland

Isn’t this old night so nice, so nice

Gonna cherish my time with you
Gonna smile, smile the whole day through
Wake up tomorrow maybe you’ll find
Darkness gone from your mind

Want you to be what you want to be
Don’t want you ever hurt like me
Smiling through the saddest times
Could only happens in dreams, I wonder is it nice as it seems

Slip away, slide away
Into dreamland, dreamland
Slip away, slide away
Into dream, dream, dreamland, dream, dreamland

Dream, dream, dreamland
Dream, dream, dreamland
Dream, dream, dreamland

Maybe you’ll get your wishes in dreams this night
Because I can’t seem to do it here in real life
Dream, dream, dreamland
Dream, dream, dreamland

Maybe you’ll get your wishes in dreams this night
Because I can’t seem to help you in real life
Into dream, dream, dreamland, dream, dreamland

Ms. Cyborg and I finally made it to our condo rental for a few days of R&R after laying Grandma Cyborg to rest yesterday.

It’s really fun out there. The snow is just starting to get deep enough where some cliff bands are just turning into steep pitches.

Wisconsin Supreme Court candidate Jennifer Dorow, and her husband Brian, are developing an indoor gun range that would not only host weddings and other events, but would also serve alcohol, Yahoo News reports.

The couple requested a Class B liquor license to sell beer and wine to members and guests in the ‘clubhouse.’ The range would also sell firearms and accessories on-site.

The gun club and the city have been in a series of legal battles for the last decade after the city revoked the club’s permit in 2010 when a bullet grazed a pregnant woman who was dining on the outdoor patio at the Delafield Brewhaus about a quarter-mile away.

what was she doing irresponsibly dining outdoors 1/4 mile from a shooting range ??? /s

They were bombing the Steep Gullies at Arapahoe Basin today, a sign they’re getting it ready for the public.

This skiing is serious. Here’s a picture I took with my phone the first time I skied them a couple of years ago.

Steep Gully #3, Arapahoe Basin, CO 2021/04/23. You can see these imposing gullies from Highway 6.

An aerial photo of the area:

The bomb blast sounds traveling around that mountain basin while it was snowing today was pretty surreal. Took several seconds for the sound to echo around the mountains.

This type of policing is not taught at the police academy, it’s taught by older officers to the younger ones. The culture itself cannot be stopped unless you disband an entire department and rebuild it from scratch.

Any guesses what will never, ever happen?

David DePape, whose assault of Paul Pelosi was released today, somehow was able to get a phone interview with a San Francisco television newscast, and showed exactly why the psychotic right wing is enamored with him. This is literally the insane ravings of a madman.

DePape in bizarre phone call to KTVU says he should have been ‘more prepared’

SAN FRANCISCO - David DePape called the KTVU newsroom Friday, the same day a superior court judge ordered video of the hammer attack on Paul Pelosi to be released. He told our reporter he had an important message.

He said he attacked Pelosi because people’s individual liberties are under attack.

In almost a call to arms, DePape says the, “people killing it have names and addresses, so I got their names and addresses so I could pay them a little visit…have a heart to heart chat about their bad behavior.”

In the chilling and bizarre phone call, he apologized for not going further.

“I want to apologize to everyone. I messed up. What I did was really bad. I’m so sorry I didn’t get more of them. It’s my own fault. No one else is to blame. I should have come better prepared,” he says.

There is the Police and then there is “us”.

But there are several levels of “us”. The first level of “us” is rich looking White People driving Volvos, Mercs, Audis, and Bimmers.

“Um, ma’am, you’ve got a brake light out on the left side of your vehicle, which is why I stopped you, could you please get that fixed tomorrow?”

You can write the rest of this story, which ends up with a black man, legally carrying a weapon, getting shot by a White Minnesota cop.

MILLSTADT, Ill. — It was a late Friday afternoon when a team of men approached a tiny pink casket. One wiped his brow. Another stepped away to smoke a cigarette. Then, with calloused hands, they gently lowered the child’s body into the ground.

Earlier that day, the groundskeepers at Sunset Gardens of Memory had dug the small grave up on a hill in a special section of this cemetery near St. Louis. It was for a 3-year-old girl killed by a stray bullet.

“It can be stressful sometimes,” Jasper Belt, said. “We have to use little shovels.”

More than 30 years ago, Johnnie Haire and the other groundskeepers built a garden site just for children, separate from unlabeled sections of the 30-acre cemetery where they used to bury infants. They added a birdbath and bought angel figurines, carefully painting each one a hue of brown. Haire wanted the angels to be Black, like many of the children laid to rest here.

“This is ‘Baby Land,’” said Haire, Sunset Gardens’ grounds supervisor, as he gestured across the area. “This is where a lot of babies are buried.”

When gun violence ends young lives, these men prepare the graves

Yeah, I always get a chuckle out of the “logic” that says that humans need “God” to know right from wrong. I tend to hear any such declarations as confessions, that the person arguing such has a lot of skeletons in their closet that are ready to come dancing out if the latch on the door ever breaks. Given all the cases we hear of annually of “men of the cloth” being caught engaged in everything from theft to infidelity to murder, there’s certainly plenty of arguments that being holy doesn’t bar you from being evil.

Hitler does that for WWII, as if anti-semitism had not been rife in Europe for many decades.

Today, LA’s Public Safety Committee will decide whether we should allow the LAPD to use a “robot dog”

These mechs were already rejected in NYC because they were used to aggressively police working-class communities of color.

They should be trained to sniff out tax evasion and turned loose in suburban communities with median incomes of $750K and upwards…

Yep, Jesse once again engaging in blaming the victim. Either the drugs turned him into a hulking monster who the cops had no choice but to kill or he dropped dead of an overdose and the beating was inconsequential.

What a way to go.

A man has died after being crushed by a pop-up urinal in London’s busy West End.

The tragedy occurred shortly after 1 p.m. local time Friday outside the Palace Theatre, currently home to the popular production of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.”

The victim was thought to be performing below-ground maintenance on the hydraulic public urinal when he was crushed.

The urinals are usually concealed below the street level during the day before they emerge from beneath the pavement for use in the evenings.

And in any sane country, the consensus and the laws would agree with you. But we live in the modern US, where millions of our fellow Americans and decades of legal precedent come together to agree that if the cops beat you to death but they can prove in court that you were already dying from a lethal overdose, then they should walk free with a pat on the back for protecting us from the “drug addict.”

If anyone is looking for a fun game to play, this one is highly addictive. Woodoku.

You move blocks into the grid with the goal of filling the 9 block grid, rows across/up down for points. Combinations (a 9 grid along with an up/down for example gets you more points).

There’s a daily “collect a bunch of preplaced gems” and a Journey that’s around 84 puzzles to solve in 6 days (I’ve never gotten past 57, and some puzzles I’ve had to try to solve 25x).

I love it!

At least gold is tangible, and (with silver) the basis of exchange for millennia. But I certainly don’t want to be living in a society where you have to barter for everything. The rationale for ending the Fairnesss Doctrine was we don’t just have limited airwaves anymore; cable has near-infinite bandwidth. If you hate Ted Turner’s liberal channel, let Rupert Murdoch have a channel that says almost the exact opposite every day.

Years ago when I cooked for a popular local restaurant my grandmother always wanted to eat there with family when I was working—it kind of pissed me off. I couldn’t see them; there was no way for them to know if they were eating food I had cooked; and it was always busy as heck so it was just more work for me (no tips for the cooks). Pavel’s well-regarded here by pretty much everyone (well, except the RWNJs and tankies like the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia).

The outgoing President, Miloš Zeman, was basically a bitter, venal and vengeful man who took great delight in being an asshole, apparently under the impression that being a spiteful old prick is one of the duties of being President here.

When I was in High School, the only way to watch a TV show was to be in front of the TV when it aired. And if you wanted to go out to eat but needed to be reachable, if you’re on call for work, you had to call the answering service and tell them the name and phone number of the restaurant.

oh, wait. you wanted to hear from those who aren’t oldsters. Sorry, senior moment leads to problems with reading comprehension.

So Jacob, Leah and Rachel were unbiblical? How about King David and his 8 wives? Solomon is reputed to have had 700 wives and 300 concubines.

The “Biblical” aspect they stress is that women are the chattel of their father (or male head of the family) until they are married off, whereupon they become chattel of their husband.

re: #174 Eclectic Cyborg

Why the fuck are conservatives so obsessed with sex?

All the “tradition” they point to is hierarchy so penetrating that part of the Inherent Order of Things is that lesser kinds of people cannot be permitted control of their own bodies, and better kinds of people are entitled to the bodies of others. This creates a system in which there might be rules-as-written where the powerful are not supposed to abuse that power over bodies, but there’s no accountability and no incentive to enforce those rules.

Even under best practices—no creepy abusers or cover-up conspiracies—to control sex is to control intimacy, personal connection, and pleasure…which are all good things to control if you’re setting up caste distinctions or a cult. But your body is not your own invariably leads to the conclusion that your body exists to be used by better kinds of people in ways that are abusive.

It’s a tell: they believe they are entitled to power and that there are no limits to that power.

If that means the occasional rape or organized molestation ring, that’s breakage; the system will continue.

Growing up, we had an 8-Track….and a quadrophonic stereo system (my dad was a big-time audiophile).

Admittedly built before I was born, when we moved into the farmhouse in the mid 60’s, my uncle’s hand built vacuum tube amp drove our stereo for a couple of decades. It was finally retired when they made a huge renovation in the late 90’s.

I used to love watching the tubes warm up before being able to start playing a record.

I bought a motorcycle for $1000 long ago. Didn’t like taking it on the freeway, layed it down, decided it wasn’t for me. Found a guy who wanted to trade a Nova for it: done. It was spray painted black but ran well so I had a car, albeit ugly. But this thing had power. Decided I wanted to change the oil: none came out of the dip stick. Opened the valve cover: looked like somebody poured Hersheys syrup over ice cream. I could see some valves moving below the lush velvety chocolate crust of solidified engine oil. Put the cover back on, went down to the Ford dealership, and bought my first new car.

The Nova sat out front for 3 months until an acquaintance came by with a heavy Get Out of Town vibe. ‘I hear you have an extra car, can you sell it to me?’ I was like hell no, I’m not selling that thing to you. Told him the story about the Hershey Experience under the valve cover. He said I’ll take it, I’ll give you something for it. $50 sold!

Saw him a few years later. He drove it for 6 months, didn’t do shit to it, then sold it for $500! I’m still laughing about it. Probably still runs.

From Friday’s WaPo Covid Newsletter

1. Healthy adults may soon be offered an annual dose of the latest coronavirus vaccine under a strategy outlined by the Food and Drug Administration, according to our colleague Laurie McGinley.

Under the once-a-year regimen, the agency would work to determine in the spring which strain of the coronavirus will pose the greatest threat the following fall and winter. An updated vaccine targeting that strain would then be rolled out in the fall — a shift from the agency’s current strategy of pushing boosters to counter variant threats.

2. Vaccine advisers to the FDA unanimously endorsed the agency’s proposal Thursday to retire the original coronavirus vaccine, The Washington Post’s Carolyn Y. Johnson and Laurie McGinley report.

If the FDA adopts the recommendation, the bivalent shots from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna, which target both the original version of the virus and the omicron variant, would be used for the entire vaccination series rather than just a booster dose.

3. “I have had two vaccines and three boosters. The last one was on Sept 22. When can I expect the next one?” — Michael, Pa.

If someone is up-to-date on all of their coronavirus vaccines, they might not be eligible for another shot until the fall. The current booster guidance has caused angst among many medically vulnerable people looking to ensure they are fully protected, especially because many health experts say vaccine efficacy wanes after a few months.
