Formula is a good supplement for the natural article these days, and in some cases, better than the natural article.

While infant formula manufacturers are getting closer to making a good illusion of breast milk, “better than” is pushing it. Breast milk is a dynamic food source that changes as infants age. There is evolutionary pressure for breast milk to be best for the infant at that time. No formula can replicate that; additionally, there are literally hundreds of oligosaccharides in milk that we don’t understand their purpose. Formula is much better than it used to be, but it is still far from the native product.

I know, but there are conditions where there isn’t enough breast milk produced, or that the quality of it is affected by external factors, most commonly medications or environment.

Breast-feeding is specifically contraindicated with my epilepsy medication.

Most medications do not have this problem though. When in doubt, ask a doctor or pharmacist.

Nebraska state senator Megan Hunt keeps getting in the news, this time over the amendment to the “drag queen child ban” bill filed by a Republican. That bill would ban anyone under nineteen from attending any drag show. Her amendment would ban anyone under nineteen from attending church camps, due to rampant sexual and physical abuse of children, and Christian indoctrination.

Democrat files bill to ban church youth camps as hotbeds of child abuse & “religious indoctrination” (LGBTQ Nation, January 30, 2023)

She keeps this amendment in her back pocket and files it any time the Republicans try to ban something here based on their religion. So far, the amendment has been successful every time in killing GOP religiously-motivated bills.

I posted downstairs, but here, Minnesota has used its new Democratic majority in the Senate to enact the PRO Act, codifying the right to abortion, contraception, and complete doctor-patient confidentiality in reproductive care. It was the first bill introduced in the new legislative session, which just goes to reinforce the point: Republicans only care about hurting people; Democrats care about protecting and defending people.

Black taxpayers are at least three times as likely to be audited by the Internal Revenue Service as other taxpayers, even after accounting for the differences in the types of returns each group is most likely to file…

“The findings do not suggest bias from individual tax enforcement agents…, They also do not suggest any valid reason for the I.R.S. to target Black Americans at such high rates”

“Instead, the findings document discrimination in the computer algorithms the agency uses to determine who is selected for an audit.”

I’m not bad. I’m just drawn that way.

Fuck all to hell, they wrote the algorithms to purposefully target a demographic that they knew would disproportionately hit persons of color. That’s because the IRS already knows what tax brackets are involved, what credits are involved, and how to target them is pretty straight forward.

When GOPers want enforcement of tax laws, you know they want this very outcome.

It’s also why those seeking the EITC are often hard hit with audits and penalty claims. GOP hates poor people, and poor persons of color are those they want to maximize the cruelty with.

re: #22 Captain Ron

Once again, poorly applied bronzer.

But it’s not the skin tone that bothers me. It’s that the DOJ and prosecutors are still waiting on someone else to bring the indictments that can come against Trump not a moment too soon. We’ll soon be in the part of the political calendar that arbitrarily indicates that you can’t prosecute because it would interfere with the political calendar.

Trump has engaged in and broken so many crimes that it’s still hard to keep track of all the crimes, but the DOJ is waiting on someone to trigger the first indictment. Heck, even NY DA Bragg has been dragging his feet on this for a while, refusing to indict Trump personally and directly even in the face of overwhelming evidence. GA prosecutors are looking at the grand jury.

Trump is that fucking ham sandwich people. Indict him. And yeah, there’s always a concern that some jury might find him not guilty. But that’s the thing - jury nullification is a real problem because all it takes is one Trump nut to deadlock a jury. Prosecute him anyways. The guy has been running around thinking he can never be prosecuted. Disabuse him of that notion.

They’re going after natural born citizenship again. The kind of thing where they can then turn around and disenfranchise lots of people because of who their grandparents are.

Former Rep. Steve King (R-acist IA-4) tried this in the US House.

It’s not likely the bill would pass (unconstitutional) but it’s the sort of performative nonsense that will drive conservative voters to the polls because Rs are doing something about those Ill Eagles.

“Jinger Vuolo?”

From the Buzzfeed article:

To be clear, Vuolo isn’t denouncing religion. She’s still a devoted Christian (her husband Jeremy is currently studying for his doctorate of divinity at a California seminary school and often preaches at a Los Angeles-area church helmed by a pastor whose views are far from inclusive [my emphasis]). Much of the book is dedicated to convincing the reader that Christianity, Jesus, and God are great — just not the version of them she was raised to believe in. Through her relationship with her husband and his brand of theology, Vuolo writes she has found peace and freedom that she never felt under Gothard’s tutelage and a true “relationship” with Jesus that she finds personally fulfilling.

So, not giving up the Christian hate, just her paedo brother and her family’s defence of him.

The pastor her hub works for is John MacArthur and his poisonous Complementarian Theology.

A couple weeks back a video circulated the internet of John MacArthur telling a female preacher - Beth Moore - to “sit down”, because “there’s no case that can be made biblically for a woman preacher.” Rather than a room aghast & offended, his reply was met with raucous applause and laughter. Just so we are clear: this didn’t happen in Alabama or somewhere else in the Bible Belt. No, it’s late 2019 and this happened in Los Angeles.

If by chance you’re familiar with MacArthur and this scene, I hope you’re recovering and continue to recover from the nonsense he’s spewed over the course of his life. It is bad, bad news. For those reading this who don’t know MacArthur’s brand: that’s a good thing and I say continue to avoid it.

Unfortunately though, this is nothing new for John MacArthur - an influential Southern Baptist minister & president of Masters Seminary. In fact MacArthur is doing nothing more than what he’s always done: work tirelessly to deliver to itchy ears a Bible that celebrates ‘biblical manhood’ while keeping women & non-males from positions of leadership in the name of God.

She still hates Teh Geyh people, and Jews, and Ni*CLANGS. She is “no angel” just because her brother was caught and her family covered for him.

KIRO reports officers arrested 57-year-old Steve Parker in Mount Vernon January 19th and found nearly three pounds of fentanyl, methamphetamine and cocaine.

Court documents state that Parker is an officer of two Skagit County organizations that help people with troubled pasts or addictions find employment and housing.

Parker told officers that he ran his drug dealing business out of a home on the Tulalip Reservation that he shares with his girlfriend.

He has another home in Arlington where he lives with his wife, mother-in-law and 14 registered sex offenders.

Meanwhile, if you are a Roman Catholic, you support this.

Another Colorado hospital stops letting women get their tubes tied, renewing questions about reproductive rights (Colorado Sun, today)

When the only hospital in Durango with a maternity ward decided that it would no longer let women get their tubes tied, there was no public announcement.

Mercy Hospital’s website doesn’t spell it out, either.

Instead, a read-between-the-lines statement added to the Centura Health hospital’s website in September noted that Mercy is “responsible for conducting itself in a manner consistent with the ethical principles of the Catholic church ministry.” The hospital had recently completed a “reeducation” of hospital staff and board members regarding the church’s ethical and religious directives, it said, adding that “patients are fully informed of all treatment options.”

Doctors who deliver babies at Mercy said they were told that beginning April 15, they can no longer provide post-cesarean-section tubal ligations, a sterilization procedure in which the fallopian tubes are cut. Women who have decided not to have more children often have their tubes tied immediately after a C-section, when they are already under spinal anesthesia, sparing them from having to schedule a separate surgery.

The hospital already prohibited tubal ligations after vaginal births, but had been allowing them after C-sections because it had been considered an undue burden to make patients schedule a separate surgery at another hospital, doctors said.

It’s been up to obstetricians to tell their pregnant patients that they will have to go elsewhere for permanent birth control.

“Patients are furious,” said Dr. Kimberly Priebe, who delivers 90-100 babies a year and has been an obstetrician-gynecologist in Durango for 20 years. “This decision undermines our patients’ trust in Centura.”

On the last line, no one should trust a Catholic organisation.

Tennessee working on the state’s pressing problems.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WJHL) - Two state lawmakers from Northeast Tennessee have sponsored bills that would incorporate the language “In God We Trust” into the Tennessee state seal.

State Senator Rusty Crowe (R-Johnson City) and State Representative John Holsclaw (R-Elizabethton) introduced Senate Bill 0420 and House Bill 0771 respectively. The senate bill was filed for introduction on Jan. 24, and the house bill was introduced on Jan. 30.

As of Monday, SB0420 had passed on first and second consideration and had been referred to the Senate State and Local Government Committee.

If passed, the bills would request that Tennessee Governor Bill Lee submit a new design to the seal by July 1, 2025.

Crowe responded to an inquiry from News Channel 11 regarding the bill and said while the current seal “reflects the importance of agriculture and commerce” in Tennessee, it could benefit from tying in faith.

The bishop who covers Durango is now forcing all non-Catholics to go two hours while pregnant each way to Denver during their pregnancy. In the event of a high-risk pregnancy, aside from the expense and time, the Church is forcing non-Catholic women to potentially die because of their faith rules.

The Church doesn’t care if women are injured or die, that’s a chance the Church is willing to take. They force doctors and nurses to lie to women as they take over secular hospitals like this one.

Catholic parishioners give time and money to this barbaric organisation. That is support.

Not support would be leaving for a different church.

Republican demands “stronger laws” to stop women from leaving state to get abortions (Salon, January 25, 2023)

He wants both stronger state laws and a new federal law.

Rep. Jim Banks, R-Ind., is expressing interest in supporting a piece of legislation that would prohibit women from leaving the state to receive abortion treatment.

During a recent appearance on “The Pat Miller Show,” Banks floated desire for stricter federal regulations to further restrict access to abortion care.

At one point during the discussion, Miller offered an example of a scenario where women could circumvent laws in one state by traveling to another state to have the procedure done.

“Our work as a pro-life movement is far from over,” Miller said. “If a young lady can hop in a car in Fort Wayne and in an hour and a half she can be in a place in Michigan or in just under 3 hours, she could cross the line into Illinois and achieve what she was able to do with abortion clinics here in Indiana. The fight is far from over.”

I don’t spend money in Chik-fil-A because of Chik-fil-A’s anti-LGBT agenda and funding hate groups. I feel that if I spend money in Chik-fil-A, then I am supporting their hate agenda (or it doesn’t matter to me).

I don’t spend money at Hobby Lobby because of their religious stance opposing contraceptive care for their employees, and for theft of historic artefacts from Iraq by purchasing them from terrorists to stock their “Museum of the Bible.” I feel if I spend money in Hobby Lobby, I support their hate agenda (or it doesn’t matter to me).

Likewise, I don’t support the Catholic Church’s hate agenda against women and LGBT people. I fortunately do not have to deal with their hospitals which exist to spread their hateful agenda against women and LGBT people. I do not give a dime to any Catholic charity for the same reason. I feel if I spend my money or time with them, I support their hate agenda (or it doesn’t matter to me).

Religion does not get a special pass from me just because it’s religion.

(“We’re having a rally in Georgia, and we need you to bring in a truckload of underaged sex slaves.” [someone in the back of the theater] “Wow. This movie just got really dark.”)

I’m just assuming the six conservative SCOTUS justices are all corrupt as fuck at this point.

Made the movie even funnier to me that they were stupid enough to want that nasty piss.

Also, these anti-drag bills are going to cause all kinds of clusterfucks come Halloween time.

There were plenty of restrictions back then on any type of commerce being moved across state lines - I remember us getting stopped whenever we came back from Arizona asking if we had any produce on board - but because states could (and still can) restrict alcohol l, getting it across state lines was big enough to make it the point of a movie.

Democrats are more likely than Republicans to say they would support efforts by their leaders to find common ground with the other party. 58% of Democrats say that Biden should try as best as he can to work with GOP leaders to accomplish things

I’m an unapologetic proud 42 percenter until those fucking loons can prove they can negotiate in good faith.

So, a lifetime member, basically.

re: #125 Anymouse 🌹🏡😷

You weren’t born into Chik-fil-A. You weren’t born into Hobby Lobby. Many people were ‘born into’ the Catholic church, baptized before they knew what a consent was, and have not been excommunicated. I’m not defending anybody. I’m thinking strategy and tactics. The Catholic Church is one of the most offensive institutions to ever exist on earth, and every one should be informed of that, but to say that about any of the ‘parishioners’ thereof, is to alienate the most powerful, beneficially destructive force at hand.

When they used to let beautiful palm trees be beautiful. I love the look of the dead fronds laying down. They make them cut them off now.
