We were in Yellowstone and there was a crowd on the boardwalk at Mammoth hot springs. As we got closer, there was a black bear lounging and eating berries. The Mrs. proceeded to ignore all else and got within 25 feet. I had to use the “dad” voice to get her to move to a safer distance. We have zoom lenses for a reason.

People can do really stupid stuff when they’re in the animals’ habitat.

Had a sociology class back in college and the instructor spent a bit of time on data collection, polling, etc. since it’s an important part of getting information. And they stressed quite a bit the need to seriously analyze the polling question for inherent bias and also having a sufficient and broad sample size to make a valid conclusion.

It essentially gave me a BS detector towards phone polls, internet polls, etc. Especially when the questions themselves pretty much declare that the polls goal is not analysis but finding “statistics” that will support a goal already decided upon.

Awesome video Charles, thank you for posting. When I was a kid I would swim in a lake that had a lot of freshwater mussels. I decided to harvest a dozen so that we could eat them. Turns out they are not as tasty as ocean mussels. Like chewing on rubber bands.
