I think DA Bragg needs to have a nice socratic dialogue with Lindsay the Trump Fart Huffer!

‘Smash some windows’: Lindsey Graham makes bizarre suggestions for Trump in face of indictment

rawstory.com

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) on Friday bizarrely suggested that former President Donald Trump could avoid prosecution in New York by attacking police officers and committing acts of vandalism.

Writing on Twitter, Graham asked rhetorically, “How can President Trump avoid prosecution in New York?”

He then answered his own question in a followup tweet: “On the way to the DA’s office on Tuesday, Trump should smash some windows, rob a few shops and punch a cop. He would be released IMMEDIATELY!”

Graham’s tweet as an apparent dig at the wrongly held belief that Black Lives Matter protesters who rioted in the summer of 2020 were never prosecuted for committing crimes.

As an Associated Press review found two years ago, “more than 120 defendants across the United States have pleaded guilty or were convicted at trial of federal crimes including rioting, arson and conspiracy” after committing crimes while taking part in anti-police demonstrations.

“More than 70 defendants who’ve been sentenced so far have gotten an average of about 27 months behind bars,” the AP added.

I’d like to see a comparison of the charges and sentencing between those protesters and what we’ve seen thus far from 1/6 insurrectionists.

My guess is that the sentencing has been much lighter against 1/6 insurrectionists as compared to BLM protesters. In fact, it’d probably be even lighter if you exclude the handful of seditious conspiracy convictions from the bunch.

Opinion The GOP response to Trump is one hell of an indictment
By Dana Milbank
wapo.st (gift link)

Really, I think you will enjoy reading it, and your mind will boggle, as mine did, at the total lack of substance, logic, and morality that Milbank exposes. I mean, we KNEW it, but it is another thing to see all the cases listed, in their shabby glory.

It’s no surprise that House Republicans leaped to Donald Trump’s defense after news of his indictment broke late Thursday. What was striking, though, was how many elected GOP officials now sound like Trump.

Then came Thursday’s [Weaponization of the Government] hearing, at which Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry and Sen. Eric Schmitt, the former Missouri attorney general, seated in front of a row of people wearing “Ashli Babbitt” T-shirts, rehashed details of a lawsuit they filed alleging the Biden administration pressured social media companies to restrict content.
Apparently, Jordan worried that, once again, his witnesses’ wild allegations (“the Biden administration has led the largest speech censorship operation in recent American history”) wouldn’t stand up to scrutiny. So he settled on an elegant solution: He hustled the pair out of the room after they read their opening statements, without allowing for any questions.
Democrats objected, and the hearing quickly devolved, like the others, into parliamentary skirmishes, shouting and personal vitriol. It became, in other words, what Boebert might call a public-urination match.

Published viewpoint from the Journal of the American Medical Association: The Supreme Court Is Harming Public Health and the Environment

Conclusions

The Supreme Court’s 6 conservative justices are bringing vast changes to the public health legal landscape. The Supreme Court is impairing the government’s ability to act in the public interest and undermining safeguards for groups that have been historically marginalized. Yet far from affecting only a subset of US individuals, the justices are weakening public health, with health and equity on the line.

Touches on COVID, false/misleading scientific information, environmental health, firearm safety, abortion rights, LGBQT+ rights, Medicaid, and health equity.

I saw John Edwards mentioned downstairs and his is probably the most relevant example right now, of a man whose career in politics was pretty much over the moment it was confirmed that he’d been screwing around behind his wife’s back. The response of the party and the voters was not to circle the wagons the moment it became public knowledge, it was to lament how much raw talent and potential had been squandered in pursuit of the forbidden fruit.

re: #70 Targetpractice

Bibi is another relevant example. A bunch of key Israeli officials have been indicted, tried, and convicted. Israeli President Katsav (7 years in prison for rape), former PM Olmert (corruption/bribery - 6 years reduced to 18 months), are two of the most recent convictions before Bibi was indicted on fraud. And yet Bibi managed to run and win election against a fractured left wing coalition. He put together the most extreme government in Israeli history, and the resulting strikes may yet topple his government.

But not today.

That’s what Trump is hoping for and that is what pundits here think could happen, ignoring that the US left (Democrats) aren’t fractured, and were able to turn out sufficient votes nationwide to beat back Trump. Democrats turned GA blue. They turned AZ blue. That matters. So, while GOPers are busy trying to subvert democracy in ways big and small, the turnout question was won by Democrats, and GOPers are even now starting to rethink opposition to mail in voting because it suppressed their own turnout sufficiently.

I saw a very interesting conspiracy theory on TikTok regarding why Lady G and the rest of the GQPers fell in line behind Trump. I haven’t checked the timeline, so don’t shoot the messenger.

But, the thesis goes like this: Both the DNC and RNC servers were hacked by Mother Russia/Russian Proxies prior to the 2016 election. Russia leaked information from the DNC server but NOT the RNC. So, the presenter of the conspiracy theory is that perhaps Russia told Trump about salacious data/info on the RNC server, which then Trump used to get the GQPers to kiss his orange arse.

Graham is the classic southern political poltroon. He is so morally empty that his life revolves around being found worthy by the utter rednecks who turn out faithfully in the upstate to ensure his reelection every six years. This part of the world once elected Butler Derrick, but that time is long dead. Also once had Fritz Hollings, whose claim to fame was leading a tour of the wretched conditions of black-majority schools in the low country.

downstairs, someone asked what the background story was on Soros and Bragg.

Here are a couple of explainers that I found:

Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg’s ties to billionaire George Soros are not as close as Republicans claim

Soros’ connection to Bragg — and possible influence on his investigation into Trump — are not as clear as Republicans leaders would make them sound. There’s no proof Bragg is “bought by Soros,” as Vance puts it.

A Soros advisor, who declined to be named to speak openly about private matters, said the billionaire “has never met or spoken to Alvin Bragg.”

Most of the criticism of Bragg appears to stem from support, and later political pressure, he received from the racial justice group Color of Change, which tries to influence government and corporate policy around the country. Soros donated $1 million to the Color of Change PAC in 2021. The Soros-funded Open Society Policy Center also piled $7 million into the group’s separate 501(c)(4) arm that year.

Yet, those familiar with the contributions said that the money the billionaire and his organization gave to Color of Change was not earmarked to back Bragg’s campaign, or intended to be used in an effort to pressure the DA.

Soros’ $1 million check to the Color of Change PAC, the largest individual donation it received in the 2022 election cycle, came days after it endorsed Bragg for district attorney and pledged more than $1 million in spending to support his candidacy, according to records.

A Color of Change official, who declined to be named to speak openly about private matters, told CNBC that the group ended up spending around $500,000 to back Bragg.

George Soros Denies Knowing or Donating to Alvin Bragg

On Friday, Soros gave a rare rebuke of attempts to link him to progressive prosecutors, stating that he neither knew Bragg nor donated to his election campaign. “As a matter of fact I did not contribute to his campaign and I don’t know him,” he told Semafor, “I think some on the right would rather focus on far-fetched conspiracy theories than on the serious charges against the former president.”

Soros, a Jewish-Hungarian billionaire, is a prolific donor to progressive causes. His wealth and religious affiliation have made him a target of antisemitic conspiracies which cast him as the shadowy boogeyman behind all manner of social and political change. The rights sees the name “Soros” as a euphemism for globalist political manipulation, and one need not have interacted with Soros to be accused of being under his thumb.

The ties between Soros and Bragg are based on little more than a donation the billionaire made to Color of Change, an organization that supports candidates for prosecutorial office. According to a report from The New York Times, Color of Change, which endorsed Bragg in 2021, never directly donated funds to Bragg but did spend on turnout efforts on his behalf. Soros gave Color of Change $1 million after the group endorsed Bragg, and the group reportedly intended to help Bragg with the money. Color of Change ultimately spent around $500,000 supporting Bragg, who was one of several candidates endorsed by the group in the 2022 election cycle. Soros had given to the group multiple times before it endorsed Bragg.

Yes, its very bad news for Fox that they couldn’t even produce enough evidence of Dominion voter machine fraud to create an issue for the jury. Summary judgement is disfavored, so its not a high bar to clear to create an issue of material fact for the jury. Now the jury will go into deliberations being told that Fox News broadcast lies.

There’s a world in which it could happen, but Fox’s reply to summary judgment would’ve had to have been the most brain-dead legal reply ever written. As pointed out above, even just to get this much thrown at them on SJ, they’re already on a bad footing.

Red Flag Alert for Genocide - USA [Lemkin Institute]

At the mainstream Conservative Political Action Conference in the USA on March 4, American actor-turned-pundit Michael Knowles announced that “for the good of society… transgenderism must be eradicated from public life entirely” to loud applause and shouts of support. The Lemkin Institute is horrified by Knowles’ statement, which is part of a much more widespread pattern of genocidal language and policies being used by political actors in the USA against the transgender community.

First, she pointed out that Bragg has prosecuted 117 of these types of cases. So he and his team might know a bit about these things.

Second, that most people are not prepared for how

My dad was born there. My granddad was a farm manager for universities and other entities in his 20s. They started at UMichigan, went to Normal (not sure if it was ISU), then to Urbana-Champaign—first to work on the Allerton farms then for the university as an ag extension “professor” for the rest of his career*. When my grandmom was in her 20s she often had to feed up to 15 or 20 farm hands as part of her husband’s job.

*My grandmother’s sister had 9 kids and most of them went to the University of Illinois and lived with my dad and my grandparents during the depression and WWII. As a result, we’re still a pretty tight extended family with regular family reunions and a family scholarship fund.
