Fuck.

You know it’s coming, eventually, but the reality always, *always*, punches you in the mouth.

My deepest sympathies on this loss to your family.

I went to Run for Something’s Website to see what seats are available for a person in my village.

It turns out there are twenty-seven different offices available in 2024.

Of those, I’m not qualified for things like judge seats, community college board, public power district, or natural resources district due to education. I’m not qualified for village board because I’m already on it.

That leaves the school board, the county commission, and state senator district 47. I plugged that in to them to see if there’s any help they can offer me.

Learned about Wallace’s contributions in my anthropology courses in college. I think I recall that he was more reticent about publishing his findings due to concerns over attacks from Christians, but googling doesn’t really back up that recollection. Anyway, there is a reason we don’t have “social Wallacism” instead of social darwinism as a mistaken rationale for empire building.

The video of the OP is excellent, and like nearly everything else in science, it is a real challenge for young earth creationist loons.

I wonder what the reaction here would have been to this video if it had been posted before the great exodus of the creationist cranks.

Whelp, I got a salad to munch on. I reached in for what I thought was Dorothy Lynch dressing (that’s the Nebraska version of French, with added doo-dads) but instead got Louisiana Buffalo Wings sauce.

That’s, uh, two great tastes which don’t belong anywhere together.

Hey why is FAUX so silent about this?

‘Unparalleled in its audacity and scope’: Herschel Walker implicated in ‘jaw-dropping’ wire fraud scheme

Failed United States Senate candidate Herschel Walker (R-Georgia) — who had the backing of former President Donald Trump — has been implicated in an “unprecedented,” “stunning,” and “jaw-dropping” scandal involving crimes such as wire fraud and campaign finance violations.

Late Wednesday evening, The Daily Beastexclusively reported that Walker solicited “hundreds of thousands of dollars” from billionaire benefactor Dennis Washington in March of 2022 “for his own personal company—a company that he never disclosed on his financial statements.”

When Herschel Walker emailed a representative for billionaire industrialist and longtime family friend Dennis Washington in March 2022, he seemed to be engaging in normal behavior for a political candidate: He was asking for money.

But unbeknownst to Washington and the billionaire’s staff, Walker’s request was far more out of the ordinary. It was something campaign finance experts are calling “unprecedented,” “stunning,” and “jaw-dropping.” Walker wasn’t just asking for donations to his campaign; he was soliciting hundreds of thousands of dollars for his own personal company—a company that he never disclosed on his financial statements.

Emails obtained by The Daily Beast—and verified as authentic by a person with knowledge of the exchanges—show that Walker asked Washington to wire $535,200 directly to that undisclosed company, HR Talent, LLC.

And the emails reveal that not only did Washington complete Walker’s wire requests, he was under the impression that these were, in fact, political contributions.

In the best possible circumstances, legal experts told The Daily Beast, the emails suggest exponential violations of federal fundraising rules; in the worst case, they could be an indication of more serious crimes, such as wire fraud.

DANVILLE, Ill. (WCCU) — On Tuesday night the Danville City Council voted to pass on an ordinance that would restrict abortion access in the city.

Hundreds of people from Danville and surrounding areas showed up in support and opposition to the ordinance.

At the beginning of the meeting, an Alderman asked if the ordinance could be removed from the agenda as they felt that the council had not had enough time to go over all the information and possibilities of the ordinance.

The ordinance stayed on the agenda after a vote. Then after 3 hours of public comment, all relating to the ordinance and subject of abortion, the council continued their own discussion and then made the vote. The vote was 7-7 with Danville mayor Rickey Williams breaking the tie and voting yes to pass the ordinance.

Those opposed to the ordinance are now worried about the legal and financial ramifications that the city will now face.

Before the vote on the ordinance, the council passed an amendment on the ordinance, that would not send the ordinance into effect until a law is passed that would legally allow the ordinance to take be in effect. Though that won’t stop the suspected incoming lawsuits.

Another take on the rumored Russian action-

I’m not a defense expert, but it does seem to me that if there were actual rumblings of an actual impending nuclear engagement, we’d be at DEFCON 1. Not that I necessarily expect that we know EVERYTHING that’s going on behind closed doors in the Kremlin, but launching nuclear bombers is a process with a lot of moving parts. Think about the Broken Arrow incidents the USAF has had over the years, and the shitstorm we had to deal with every time. People knew.
