Law • Views: 13,808

Donald Trump is now in the finding out stage of fucking around, and it’s wonderful to see.

A potential third indictment is hanging over former President Donald Trump, with new reporting on thousands of documents turned over to the Special Counsel’s office from former NYPD Commissioner Bernard Kerik. Ana Cabrera is joined by NBC News Correspondents Garrett Haake and Ryan Reilly, as well as former Watergate Assistant Special Prosecutor Jill Wine-Banks and former federal prosecutor Michael Zeldin.

Bribery trial turns up horrific allegations against Matt Gaetz pal

A bribery trial has turned up explosive allegations against disgraced Florida tax collector Joel Greenberg, an associate of Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL).

Attorneys for former Greenberg consultant Michael Shirley claimed the U.S. Secret Service found a thumb drive in Greenberg’s car containing 80 images of child exploitation material that the former Seminole County tax collector told federal investigators that he intended to use to frame an attorney at the tax collector’s office, reported WKMG-TV’s Mike DeForest.

Every day I wake up hoping he’s been arrested and held until trial. This asshole has done so much irreparable harm to this country. I don’t see us recovering, at least during my lifetime and I’m not even 50 yet.

On another note. It’s no fun having a 10 yo GSD with a UTI. Past few days he’s made a bit of a mess on the rug. Hoping the antibiotics which he started today kick in soon. But this did give me the push I needed to order one of those “portable” spot cleaners. Of course I went straight to Bissell and Hoover, but saw that Kenmore also has an offering. And it looks much easier to fill/empty etc. A bit cheaper too. Hurry up Amazon.

Interesting tidbit (via NYT) on the tentative (and, one hopes, strike-averting) agreement between UPS and the Teamsters. I was wondering how the government was involved in it, and, the answer seems to be “not at all”..

[Teamsters’ president] Mr. O’Brien had explicitly asked President Biden, who has called himself “the most pro-labor union president,” not to get involved in the negotiations. A group of over two dozen Democratic senators also pledged not to intervene.

The Biden administration helped broker a deal that headed off a freight rail strike last year. Many union members involved in that dispute saw the deal as leaning too heavily in favor of the major rail carriers.

Seems like the union got a good deal: though it said UPS made something like $100 Billion last year - guess they could afford to be accommodating….

In September 2007, I came to New York looking for work, fresh out of college with an art degree. Soon enough, I found myself working at a small architecture firm where a large part of my job was hustling signed and sealed drawings and paperwork from my boss to RH Consultants, which my firm hired as an “expediter” to cut through the city’s red tape. I was perpetually in a state of frustration, but the team at RH cheered me up, encouraging me to have a sense of humor and helping me learn the basics of handling the endless pile of forms required by the Department of Buildings.

When I first met Rex Heuermann in his midtown office, his face turned red like that of a shy teenage boy who had been surprised by a hot girl in the cafeteria. (Even sitting behind his desk, he looked to me like a giant.) His office was mostly staffed by women like myself, young and petite, the girl-next-door type. We knew he was married with a family in Massapequa, but he never spoke of them. Just a few months earlier, authorities say he murdered his first known victim, 25-year-old Maureen Brainard-Barnes.

My Boss, the Monster What else Rex Heuermann was up to as he allegedly committed the Gilgo Beach murders. (Intelligencer)

Mesmerizing gloryhole!

A mesmerizing whirlpool has opened up in California’s Lake Berryessa as the state’s battle against devastating droughts has finally cooled.

Officially named the ‘Morning Glory Spillway’, the bizarre effect is due to a water-draining system that was installed when the body of water was dammed in 1953.

It is essentially a giant concrete funnel, 75-ft wide at the top and 28-ft at the base, which stands just below the brink of the dam’s walls at 440-ft to prevent it from overflowing.

As an American you’re trained to think of fascism as some kind of exceptional ideological state…basically if Mordor was an idea…and that fascism was “beaten” during WW2 by the US.

But fascism isn’t some kind of unique thing with no comparables, it springs like a sucker from a thick branch of European ideology involving nationalism and colonialism. Nazism and Japanese imperialism amounted to an explicit attempt at speed colonialism; Italian and Portuguese fascism were imperialist and backward-looking to eras when they were world hegemons, the Spanish Falange and the Ustace were both Catholic-traditionalist. The geneaology has never been mysterious, except that politicians and holders of capital/power would prefer there not be too fine a discussion of how their preferred rhetoric and tactics in times of pressure are simply things fascists do.

But you’re also only taught a little about how post WW2 America immediately got comfortable with fascists—Salazar, Stroessner, Pinochet—putatively to fight commumism but de facto the bones of American fascism can be seen in our own attempts at colonialism in the Pacific and Latin America.

Aimé Césaire articulated something very similar, that fascism is essentially just colonialism applied inwards:

People are surprised, they become indignant. They say: “How strange! But never mind — it’s Nazism, it will pass!” And they wait, and they hope; and they hide the truth from themselves, that it is barbarism, but the supreme barbarism, the crowning barbarism that sums up all the daily barbarisms; that it is Nazism, yes, but that before they were its victims, they were its accomplices; that they tolerated that Nazism before it was inflicted on them, that they absolved it, shut their eyes to it, legitimized it, because, until then, it had been applied only to non-European peoples; that they have cultivated that Nazism, that they are responsible for it, and that before engulfing the whole of Western, Christian civilization in its reddened waters, it oozes, seeps, and trickles from every crack.

Yes, it would be worthwhile to study clinically, in detail, the steps taken by Hitler and Hitlerism and to reveal to the very distinguished, very humanistic, very Christian bourgeois of the twentieth century that without his being aware of it, he has a Hitler inside him, that Hitler inhabits him, that Hitler is his demon, that if he rails against him, he is being inconsistent and that, at bottom, what he cannot forgive Hitler for is not crime in itself, the crime against man, it is not the humiliation of man as such, it is the crime against the white man, the humiliation of the white man, and the fact that he applied to Europe colonialist procedures which until then had been reserved exclusively for the Arabs of Algeria, the coolies of India, and the blacks of Africa.

The seven other search warrants don’t necessarily mean the FBI agents and the Justice Department officials searched seven other physical locations.

This one changes from red to pink as the day progresses. Some daylilies just get kind of ‘greasy’ as the day goes along, only being good looking early in the morning. Not this one. This is an end of the day picture.

Incandescent daylily

A great example of a double daylily. Instead of 6 petals it has 12 but the inner six never fully develop to they kinda just stick out. The upper one is normal and the lower one is double. (doubling is not always 100% although they are breeding towards that).

Little Castaway daylily

My favorite yellow. Huge, stays strickeningly yellow the whole day and has nice ruffled edges.

Texas A&M University has suspended a professor after she was accused of allegedly “criticizing” Republican Lt. Governor Dan Patrick by a politically connected student snitch.

FL and TX are neck-in-neck for who is the biggest fascist state.

and if you didn’t, it wouldn’t.

Yep. I turned on the sprinklers yesterday and as soon as I shut them off, in came the rain. But since we had not had any rain for several weeks, it was all good. Should last a few days.

And Texas A&M also has the worst student demographics in the state. UT has much more diverse student populations. It already had a history of militaristic/fascist incidents. Going to lose some good tenured professors.

Imagine if your body could get upgraded videogame-style every time you accomplished a major task in life.

“Congrats on the promotion David! You are now fireproof.”

Fun. But then also think about how much of our life would be trying to find the damned ‘save’ on the level before the Boss’s minions found us. Otherwise we revert to an earlier self and really have to start over. ;-)

We had onew go to down on some metal sheathing on our house once. I really was horribly loud. I eventually scared it off with a fake owl.

We had one punch a softball size hole in the siding of our house. We eventually sent the flicker to a farm well outside the city, if you know what I mean…

*if* pence did that it - even tried to do that - it wouldnt have had the force of any law.
because it isn’t a thing.
it would not have created a constitutional ‘crisis’. the constitution is clear.
yes, it would have created a great constitiutional issue, mostly because it never happened before.
it would have got to scotus tout de suite.
and scotus would have likely said “wtf does ‘send them back to the States’? even mean?”

As I recall, the law says that the votes HAD to be counted on the 6th, not some other day or sent back to the states. So, when they reconvened later, after clearing the Capital, and it ran over into the 7th, they just declared it was still the 6th.

Heck at that temperature, spinning in the water with outstretched arms might be enough to get some circulation going. :-)
