re: #199 Nojay UK

It’s easy enough to burn oil to generate electricity to charge electric vehicles. We burn gas to do that right now because there’s a lot of gas but if the world requires for more electricity as EVs start to dominate the market and the price of oil falls then some gas consumption will be replaced with cheap oil.

The same market forces that make oil an increasingly unattractive source of energy for automobiles are also going to weigh against new power generation built around oil-fired boilers. Coal’s already cheaper than natural gas and has been for ages, yet few nations outside of developing economies are rushing to take advantage of such by adding new coal-powered plants. The cost of operating such plants, between cleaning up the emissions at the smokestack, dealing with the toxic ash, and maintaining employee safety outweigh any benefits from the cheaper fuel source. Oil faces the same issues going forward, even if they produce fewer emissions and don’t deal with the problems that exist with coal ash.

Nancy, you’ve been there long enough to know that the value of their “investigation” is not in actually going forward with impeachment, it’s in continually “asking questions” to maintain in the minds of those voters who are still on the fence the idea that Joe Biden is every bit as corrupt as Donald Trump. And that if even if you can’t be swayed to support Trump in the face of all their “evidence,” you can still be convinced to just sit out the election because “Both Sides Are Bad.”

Lawsuit alleges Sean Hannity and Fox News ‘conspired with’ Boebert to ‘defame’ political activist

alternet.org

Months after North Carolina activist David Wheeler hit United States Representative Lauren Boebert (R-CO) with a defamation lawsuit over allegedly making “multiple false claims about him and” his super PAC American Muckrakers, Fox News and host Sean Hannity will be “added as defendants,” News From The States reports.

“They conspired with Lauren Boebert to defame me,” Wheeler said Monday, according to the report. “I repeatedly asked to go on their news shows to discuss the allegations she was making against us and was either ignored or told ‘no’ over and over again while she continued to go on their shows bashing me.”

Per the report, “His complaint, in U.S. District Court of Colorado, alleges Boebert made ‘maliciously false statements’ about Wheeler and American Muckrakers on multiple occasions last summer, particularly during broadcasts of Hannity’s Fox News shows and on radio. Fox personality Tomi Lahren is also singled out in the complaint as having provided a platform for Boebert to allegedly defame Wheeler.”

The news outlet reports, “Last month, Boebert asked the Colorado court to dismiss Wheeler’s case, saying he failed to state a legally sufficient claim and that statements by her that form the basis of the lawsuit are protected by the First Amendment. She also said a new Colorado law that protects people who exercise First Amendment rights from the threat of lawsuits — known as an anti-SLAPP law — calls for the case to be dismissed.”

American Muckrakers, according to the report, “previously worked to unseat former Republican U.S. Rep. Madison Cawthorn of North Carolina,” and “targeted Boebert last year as she sought a second term in Congress,” by allegedly publishing “unflattering information” about the right-wing lawmaker.

This prompted Boebert to say she planned on “moving forward with a lawsuit” against Wheeler and Muckrakers, but News From The States notes that “She never followed through with her threat to sue Wheeler and Muckrakers, who now essentially claim that Boebert defamed Wheeler by falsely accusing him of defaming her.”

And who is going to be called at the first House hearing to impeach Joe?

You guessed right! It’s TURDLEY

rawstory.com

The House Oversight Committee announced its first panel over what they’re calling an impeachment of President Joe Biden.

The House has not voted on whether or not to impeach Biden.

Among those chosen was attorney Jonathan Turley, who still purports to support Democrats but regularly attacks them and supports Donald Trump in Fox appearances.

“This week, the House Oversight Committee will present evidence uncovered to date and hear from legal and financial experts about crimes the Bidens may have committed as they brought in millions at the expense of U.S. interests,” House Oversight Chair James Comer (R-KY) said in a release.

So I’m guessing
a) Russian EW did not land the drone. They might have tried, and Ukraine let them think they were successful.
b) A drone sitting on a runway doesn’t need to transmit anything. It only needs to receive the command “destruct.”

It’s amazing how many high-level military officers keep getting killed in stupid ways. The FSB official is a nice touch.

re: #162 Dangerman (sigh…only in America)

Cars used to need service / oil changes every 2500-3000 miles.
Now it could be 2x or up to 5x or more.

Putting service stations out of work

Previous thread on servicing cars.

My Smarts only need service every 10,000 miles now.

The 2013 (the one we bought new) was serviced in January when it flipped past 100,000 miles.

The 2009 we just bought used was just serviced. It’s not due for another 10,000.

On municipalities being attracted to electric vehicles, that’s only where the infrastructure exists to support them, or where the vehicle doesn’t require a range beyond what an EV can drive.

Thus my pitch to replace our ancient pick-up truck to the village board with an electric vehicle failed. An alternative suggestion to buy an electric car for the water operator to use instead of her own car and paying her mileage for round-trips to Scottsbluff also failed, because EVs are way more expensive than the the federal mileage rate.

Nebraska still generates 49% of its electricity with coal. The rest is wind, solar, nuclear, and hydroelectric.

We are sixth in the nation on personal energy consumption, which the Energy Information Administration attributes to our blazing summers and extreme winters.

In fuel oil usage, we are third after Wyoming and North Dakota.

In industrial electricity usage, we are third after California and Texas.

David McCallum had a long full life.

McCallum is survived by his wife of 56 years Katherine McCallum, three sons (Paul McCallum, Valentine McCallum and Peter McCallum), his daughter Sophie McCallum and eight grandchildren.

Peter McCallum, the actor’s son, issued a statement about his father’s death on behalf of his family. In it, he fondly described his father’s appetite for fostering strong connections with his family, his acting career and learning.

“He was the kindest, coolest, most patient and loving father. He always put family before self. He looked forward to any chance to connect with his grandchildren,” his statement reads in part.

“He was a true renaissance man — he was fascinated by science and culture and would turn those passions into knowledge,” the statement continued. “For example, he was capable of conducting a symphony orchestra and (if needed) could actually perform an autopsy, based on his decades-long studies for his role on NCIS.”

Peter also recalled how his mother and the actor’s wife, Katherine Carpenter, expressed a desire to have had more time with the actor.

“After returning from the hospital to their apartment, I asked my mother if she was OK before she went to sleep,” he wrote. “Her answer was simply, ‘Yes. But I do wish we had had a chance to grow old together.’ She is 79, and dad just turned 90. The honesty in that emotion shows how vibrant their beautiful relationship and daily lives were and that somehow, even at 90, Daddy never grew old.”
