“Should I leave the Republican Party?”
No, George, Anthony or whatever other name you go by. You got to stay!
Expelled congressman George Santos asked his fans and followers if he should leave the Republican party, and most of them said yes.
Santos, who is also facing criminal charges from the DOJ, posted a poll on social media on Friday, simply asking, “Should I leave the Republican Party?” At the time of writing, the poll has four hours remaining and it stands with 67.6% people voting for his departure from the party. The poll shows 32.4% saying he should stay.
The comments are a mixed bag, with some begging Santos to stay to fix a broken party and others condemning Santos as an alleged criminal.

‘A tour de force’: Experts reveal Jack Smith’s ‘sly’ additions to new Trump filing
Special Counsel Jack Smith’s team didn’t pull any punches in its new filing contesting Donald Trump’s claims of absolute presidential immunity in the former president’s D.C. election subversion case, numerous legal experts said on Saturday.
Smith’s motion, which former federal prosecutor Joyce Vance said could force Trump to move more quickly when it comes to his Supreme Court immunity appeal, argued that the ex-president was “wrong” to say his acts were within the parameters of his presidential duties.
But legal professionals online noticed some easter eggs, and flagged some other key points buried deep within the more than 80-page filing.
Several onlookers noticed, for instance, that the filing was targeted for Supreme Court review. Specifically, according to those who read the motion, it was meant to be read by the conservative justices on the bench.
Legal expert and former Justice Department prosecutor Andrew Weissmann commented on a post by a fellow legal analyst, pointing out that the filing was “classic Dreeben,” referencing former Deputy Solicitor General Michael Dreeben, a heavy hitter Smith brought on board to press the top court.
By calling the filing “classic Dreeben,” Weissmann says he means it is “a tour de force,” and that it’s “VERY geared to [Supreme Court] review.”
In a second post, Weissmann says Smith “slyly notes that Trump himself previously told the [Supreme Court] in a case where he sought (unsuccessfully) immunity from a state grand jury subpoena that he [would] NOT be immune post-Presidency and [would] not be thereafter ‘above the law.”
Legal analyst Allison Gill also chimed in on the high court aims for the filing, noting that the “shout outs to Alito and Kavanaugh were a nice touch.”
Christian Vanderbrouk, a conservative commentator who previously worked in the George W. Bush White House, also noticed the prosecutors focused on quotes from the conservative justices from the right-leaning Supreme Court.
“Jack Smith’s citations of Justices Alito, Kavanaugh and Thomas are particularly on point in this filing,” he wrote on Saturday.
Conservative attorney George Conway also noticed something.
“Also: ‘a president who sells nuclear secrets to a foreign adversary,’” Conway said, quoting the filing. “Interesting choice of hypotheticals.” He then added, “It took quite an imagination.”
re: #28 Joe Bacon ✅
That makes sense, when you think about it. Everybody - both us laypeople and all the people in the room where it’s happening - knows that this is going to be reviewed by SCOTUS sooner or later. By laying the groundwork for that inevitable appeal now, it makes the work easier later - in addition to making it more difficult for the opposition to make their case, when you can clearly state that your side has been arguing in accordance with Supreme Court precedent the whole time. (Not that precedent matters to the Calvinball Court, but it gives them a nice fig leaf when they have to do something unpleasant, like shutting down Trump.)

One of the unspoken “dangers” of working the overnight shift at a hotel is any guests who become “bored” or “restless” have a greater-than-zero chance of deciding that you are “lonely” at the front desk and need a friend to talk to. So you’ll find yourself in the middle of a shift suddenly stuck with a chatterbox who wants somebody to listen to them for the night. I put it as “danger” because if you really are feeling lonely or the extrovert at the desk wants to talk about topics that you’re interested in, then you might find yourself with a new friend who can help the night go by. But there’s an equal chance that you’re going to end up spending time you’d rather use to watch YT or playing games listening to somebody you don’t know tell you their life’s story or try to convince you that the Illuminati have it out for them.

Nah, brogressives never supported Biden, they just couldn’t convince enough Dem voters in 2020 that the party refusing to abandon the primary system and embrace Bernie as their One True Savior tm meant it had abandoned them and the proper response was to vote third party or stay home in “protest.”
So now they’re trying to convince Dems that the party should totally have spent millions of dollars and months of time running primaries where the incumbent faced one or more challengers for the nomination because refusal to do so means the party is abandoning “tradition” to anoint Biden and Dem voters should abandon the party to either vote third party or stay home in protest.

It’s 2012 again where the brogressives tried to convince anybody who’d listen that Bernie would totally have beaten Obama and lead the Dems to the Holy Land if only the party would have allowed Obama to be “primaried”…and if Bernie hadn’t waved off the idea and endorsed Obama.

Ayep, every four years we see the Bad Faith Olympics start up, where the brogressives spend months BSing the public that they don’t want a Repub to win, before getting to the fall and admitting that they’re totally cool with the Repub winning because the Dems refused to simply give the nomination to their chosen messiah.

Looks like China’s real estate crisis is continuing, with no signs of abating. Recent measures taken to arrest the decline seem to have been a damp squib.
The slide in China’s home sales accelerated in December, underscoring the challenges to arrest the country’s property slump.
The value of new home sales among the 100 biggest real estate companies fell 34.6% from a year earlier to 451.3 billion yuan ($64 billion), compared with a 29.6% decline in November, according to preliminary data from China Real Estate Information Corp. on Sunday.
That puts major developers’ full-year sales 16.5% lower than 2022, worse than the institution’s earlier estimate of a 15% drop. December’s sales were up 15.7% compared with the previous month.
China’s prolonged housing downturn has weakened the economy and hurt developers that are struggling to repay debts and complete projects. In the latest move to revive demand, authorities relaxed homebuying curbs in Beijing and Shanghai, two of the country’s biggest housing markets.
2024 already shaping up to be a bumpy ride.

Southern Baptist Convention settles lawsuit that accused former judge of sexual abuse
The Southern Baptist Convention and others have reached a confidential settlement in a high-profile lawsuit that accused a former leader of sexual assault, ending a six-year legal drama that helped prompt a broader reckoning over child sexual abuse in evangelical churches, expanded victims’ rights in Texas and showed that a prominent conservative activist and Texas House candidate repeatedly downplayed abuse allegations.
Pressler, 93, is one of the most influential evangelical figures of the last half-century, and is considered the co-architect of the SBC’s “conservative resurgence” that began in the late 1970s and prompted the faith group to adopt literal interpretations of the Bible, align more closely with the Republican Party, ban women from preaching and strongly condemn homosexuality.
Pressler — who formerly represented Houston in the Texas House and served for 14 years as a state appeals court judge — is also an influential figure in GOP politics. His endorsement has for years been sought by conservative evangelical politicians, including U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas. In 1989, Pressler was nominated to lead the Office of Government Ethics under President George H.W. Bush, though the bid was later withdrawn; and Pressler is a founding member of Council for National Policy, a secretive network of conservative judges, politicians, media figures, megadonors and wealthy business owners that is currently led by Tony Perkins, head of the anti-LGBTQ+ Family Research Council.
Pressler denies the allegations and has not been criminally charged for any of the alleged abuses. An attorney for Pressler did not respond to a request for comment about the settlement, which is not public.
In a statement, legal representatives for the Southern Baptist Convention and its executive committee confirmed that they had “entered into a confidential settlement agreement” despite being “fully prepared” to proceed to a trial that was scheduled for February after being postponed twice this year.
More proof of just how morally bankrupt the Southern Fried Baptists are.
Re: restoring old cars. A little over three weeks ago, I helped my nephew load my deceased mother’s 1957 Mercury Montclair onto a trailer, so he could take it back home East of the mississippi to restore. (It and I are in SoCal) It had been sitting in a garage unmoving for thirty-three years on four flats, frozen drum brakes, and with possums denning in a debris filled engine compartment. Just before Christmas, he texted to say he’d backed it off the trailer and driven it a bit under it’s own power. I guess he’s good at this. (He has restored several 50s vintage cars already)

Chinese EV makers are planning factories in Mexico—and the U.S. is worried it’s a ‘back door’ to undercutting the Big 3 carmakersElectric vehicles made in China—boosted by large government subsidies—are rapidly being adopted around the world. Over the past three years, China’s EV exports have jumped 851%, the New York Times reported in October.
But in the U.S., tariffs affecting China’s EV makers have made it nearly impossible for them to compete against vehicles made domestically or imported from friendly countries. That doesn’t mean they aren’t planning an assault, however: Chinese EV makers are instead focusing on another North American market, one that could prove to be a stepping stone into the U.S.: Mexico.
South of the border, sales of affordable Chinese-made EVs are booming. According to the Mexican Association of Automotive Distributors, Mexico’s imports of Chinese cars (both EVs and traditional ones) increased 62.6% during the first eight months of this year compared to the same period last year.
The Mexico advantage
More worrying for U.S. automakers, several Chinese EV makers plan to build factories south of the border. That’s concerning because Mexico has a free trade agreement with the U.S. and Canada (the USMCA). Among the Chinese EV makers scouting locations in Mexico are BYD, Chery, and MG, reports the Financial Times.Especially formidable is BYD, backed by Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway and poised to overtake Tesla as the world’s biggest EV seller. It owns the entire supply chain of its EV batteries, from the raw materials to the finished battery packs. Other Chinese EV makers have similar supply-chain advantages, to varying degrees, giving them a big cost advantage.
