President Biden crushed Trump’s balls so much that Trump finally remembered where they are.

He started the speech talking about WW2 and FDR. Then late in the speech he discussed his life story, demonstrating that he is a direct link back to that storied time. His age shows the progress of America. He was alive when FDR was and now he can lead us in a similar fashion. Wow. Great way to hit the age thing.

Biden is doing it again. Johnson can’t leave the room until he does and he’s on the floor asking if anyone wants to sit down for a quick game of pinochle.

Theses a very real chance that we lose Michigan because of this, and that means we lose the white house.

So you think Michigan Muslims are going to shoot themselves in the foot?

The primary was a protest vote. They know what’s coming if Trump wins.

Since I didn’t realize the speech had started upstairs, I’m re-posting this:

Been years since I bought a new phone, forgot how much there really is to set up. Add in all the new … “stuff” they’ve added (bloatware that needs uninstalling forex) and deciding how much of the “assistant” tech to actually enable: I’ll start off with a fair bit of it for now just to see if it really is of any assistance. It still feels silly to ask my phone a question “Hey Google” no matter how useful it might be.

I do like the folding capability, tucks into my pocket better. I’m slowly getting used to the gestures for the UI and there are actually some semi useful widgets these days. The little screen on the front when it’s closed is actually big enough to be useful - the reviewers seem to think it needs to be as big as the ones on the really expensive phones but not for me.

I wasn’t sure if wireless recharging would be a gimmick but I like having a specific place to a) put the phone down when I get home and know where it is and know it’s charging at the same time.

The camera, eh, who cares. I have too many real cameras to care. It will more than suffice for what little I use a phone camera for.

OTOH, the screen is nice, my games and music play well. Better CPU/memory performance, 2x storage & good battery life though the last phone had excellent battery performance so we’ll see on that.

First few days? 9/10 easily

I guarantee you - by the election, all these pro-Palestine people will not only be voting for Biden but be really excited about how he listened to them. He will accomplish what needs to be done in Israel. No other President in my lifetime is as good a politician as he is. He knows how to work the room and when to crack the whip.

Trust Biden. He has this covered.

Yes,I think they will sit on their hands and not vote at all because they are furious at being taken for granted and at seeing their compatriots and family members bombed to death with ordnance they paid for.

Speaker Jesusbot getting slammed

‘Unqualified twerp’: Experts mock Johnson’s constant ‘pained expression’ during SOTU

The Guardian reporter Hugo Lowell commented, “impressive how speaker johnson has managed to maintain the same pained expression for almost an hour.”

MSNBC legal analyst Andrew Weissmann wrote, “Mike Johnson needs an expression other than a smirk.”

USA Today columnist Rex Hippie said, “Mike Johnson, with his facial expressions, is perfectly encapsulating the d—ck-ish, smug, unjustified sense of superiority of the Trumpian right. An unqualified twerp thrust into a position of power. #SOTU2024”

The anti-Trump group Lincoln Project’s Rick Wilson added, “Mike Johnson won’t even stand in condemnation of Vladimir Putin. P—sy.”

Mike Murphy said, “Mike Johnson wouldn’t stand to clap for ending cancer #SOTU”

The Recount tweeted, “President Biden slams congressional Republicans in a remarkably straightforward way, saying ‘some of you here seek to bury the truth about January 6th.’ Behind him, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) rolls his eyes and shakes his head.”

Media Matters for America fellow Matthew Gertz added, “MIKE JOHNSON IS AGAINST EVERY CHILD LEARNING TO READ BY THIRD GRADE COME ON MAN.”

From down below:

re: #344 silverdolphin

Gantz isn’t beginning to emerge as the man who could replace Bibi - he’s been obliterating him in all of the surveys and projections since November, which have the Pro-Netanyahu political bloc effectively smashed to pieces.
It isn’t even close. A whopping 84% of Israelis want Netanyahu gone, and that includes many in his own party, some of whom are already publicly discussing the day after his inevitable post-war departure. Likud is currently staring into the abyss that is a staggering political crash not seen in decades (losing half its parliamentary power at best). This was reinforced in the past week after Israel finally had its municipal elections - postponed several times since October - and the Bibi-supporting parties all suffered badly across the country.
The asshole is on borrowed time solely due to a broad national view that “it’s bad to have elections during a war”, which he’s been taking advantage of.

He has the narrowest possible margin; if he loses even one or two seats his coalition collapses. And all the recent polls say if the election were today, he’d lose dozens.

Yair Golan is someone in Israel I have been following since Oct 7. On that day, the former member of the Knesset and a retired major general put on his old uniform, jumped in his car and drove down to the area to rescue many people.

He has been anti-Netanyahu for a while. He had ruined his political career in 2016 by discussing the parallels between Europe and Germany in the 30s and the slide to the right by Israel at a Holocaust speech.

But he is taking the Oct 7 events to revitalize his career and announced today he is running to lead the Labor Party. He waants to unite Labor. Meretz and the entire Left in Israel.

He may not succeed but I see his rise as a hopeful sign for real opposition to Bibi from the left.

The Fulton County Board of Ethics was expected to hear two complaints against Willis after her romance with a special prosecutor on the election interference case involving former President Trump raised concerns of a conflict of interest.

The board determined it does not have jurisdiction over Willis, who is a state constitutional officer in her role

Upon reflection, the SOTU was every bit the speech I thought it would be. I’ve been following almost every major speech Biden has been making on the campaign trail and they are all like this - pugnacious, unyielding, hopeful, angry, irreverant, folksy and biting.

I expect the MSM will now start to notice this since it is now trivial to write a many page inches about just how great Biden is despite his age. The MSM will reverse in an instant because they are lazy and these stories write themselves now. The comparison with Trump will result in the clicks they crave.

Well, the International House of Prayer Kansas City sex scandal is the gift that keeps on giving. A young man has started exposing his father, who, while not officially associated with IHOPKC, had been hanging around for two decades and gave them land and trailers at the beginning of the outfit.

A man known in charismatic circles for his prophetic ministry who has close ties to embattled International House of Prayer-Kansas City founder Mike Bickle is a con artist and a fraud, his son said this week.

Jedidiah Hartley, who was raised in the IHOPKC community and often traveled with his father to speaking engagements, said he could no longer remain silent about what he knew — and experienced — regarding Bob Hartley and his highly sought-after prophecies.

“I have never known how to address this publicly, but it has become clear that (it) is time for me to speak up,” he said in a thread posted on X, formerly Twitter, on Monday afternoon.

Then came the bombshell.

“My dad, Bob Hartley, who has been an influential prophetic figure in both #IHOPKC and #Bethel church is a complete fraud. His prophetic ministry has always been a con. For decades his process has been the same. He gets specific information about people, either through online searches, church directories, or most commonly, through conversations with pastors of local churches, and then he pretends as if he is divining this info.”

ca.news.yahoo.com

Note: the “Bethel” referred to here is Bethel Redding church, in Redding, CA. This church and its leadership holds a lot of sway over the town of Redding.

There was also a story yesterday that I’m not going to drop here because the person who published the story basically dragged the woman through the mud without considering that she may have been a victim of sexual abuse. So, yeah, it’s getting ugly.

And, apparently, IHOPKC is moving out of its campus in a strip mall (the home of the famous 24x7 prayer room) and moving to another property they own a few miles away. It’s been speculated that the scandals engulfing IHOPKC have really cut into giving, but it’s unclear if that’s the reason why they’re moving.

The idea that somebody came and deep-cleaned the kitchen for the photo occurred to me, but the total lack of ornamentation or personalization just makes it feel like they took the picture at an IKEA store. Any time I’ve viewed a room in an actual house that was that sterile, it was because the homeowner was the sort of deranged person who insisted any place that “guests” may see during visits be kept immaculate to avoid gossip amongst the neighbors. Like my sister’s friend whose mother kept an entire living room so pearly white that it glowed on its own, but it was strictly for “guests” and you could not even step on the carpet without first removing your shoes.

If she didn’t, then she was dusting and cleaning daily, because it looked immaculate both times I visited. But it also seemed that “guests” were not allowed past the living room, as the kitchen actually looked “lived in” as did most of the rest of the house. It was like she limited “guest areas” to two rooms: the living room and the bathroom that was equally spotless.

Was having an otherwise normal discussion with one of our guests that had turned to the military (ex-hubby is a retired Marine) and the matter of the DoD falling short across the board on recruitment came up. And in less than a second, she’d grabbed the wheel and yanked the discussion straight into “Did you know that they’re thinking about letting all those illegals from China earn their citizenship by serving? What’s causing the real problem is the monitor appointed during the fraud trial. If he was unsupervised, he’d magically find $100m in the couch cushions to put in escrow while he mounted his pointless appeals. But because everything he does with his money is being watched, he can’t just call up his buddies in Moscow to spot him the funds, nor are the usual banks he relies upon to launder said funds willing to float him a loan now that they know they’re not getting anything out of it and most of what he owns is leveraged to the hilt.

Legally, it’s bribery, and the still-illegal kind. Technically, Musk is an officer of a government contractor, and Trump as a candidate for office is considered a government official. I suppose you could make a case that it’s not if Musk applied normal loan underwriting standards and appropriate interest rates, but yeah sure.

It looks like Pres Biden delivered a great speech and made it pretty clear that there’s an obvious source of what is ailing us. IMO, it also has given democrats a lot of material, based on facts, to counter bullshit with. I don’t have a big insight to much these days, but I do see my son and his friends, aged 25-35 mostly, and they are pissed, worried, and plan on not voting conservative at all. So that gives me hope. They read and research too, so my complete despair is tamped down a bit by that. Most of them were raised conservative and have turned away from both the politics and the religious parts of that. Let’s hope my tiny circle is part of a larger shift.

re: #21 KGxvi

Why is this stepford senator smiling when she says families are hurting?

The GOP found the most offensively inoffensive woman they could to give the rebuttal. And her claim starts with a white nationalist hot take - that women and families like hers are suffering.

They can’t actually describe what they’re suffering from and how they’re doing worse than 4 years ago, because that’s just flat out bulkshit on a stick. They know covid was a thing, and more than a million Americans died from covid. We were eyeballs deep in dead bodies - morgues overflowing, families grieving and split apart because of safety measures designed to try and keep people safer (and families who were losing loved ones to covid couldn’t even grieve normally b/c of covid - funerals, wakes, and shiva were all not a thing during covid).

We couldn’t find toilet paper, wipes, disinfectants, paper towels, masks, and people hoarded same because of it. You were limited to 1 pack if you could find them at costco. None of that was normal.

We had a president who sat on his ass and hoped covid would wipe out NY and the other blue states who he hated because they didn’t love him. He called for people to drink bleach, horse paste, and ingest UV light to protect against covid, and slow rolled expert advice from Fauci and others who wanted more stringent methods of slowing the spread of covid. Even after vaccinations were widely available, Trump and GOP slow rolled their efforts, and pushed antivax opinions, which meant that GOPers died at a disproportionately higher rate than everyone else, and that per capita death rates in GOP controlled states were far higher than even the states where covid first struck and we had no clue what to do to save lives (NY, NJ, and CA have lower per capita death rates than FL, TX, and a host of GOP states).

The economy collapsed under Trump, and even if you peel away the covid damage, Trump did demonstrably worse than Biden’s first three years (stripping away the covid rebound). Trump gutted civil and voting rights, women’s rights, contraceptive access, and abortion access, and intends to do more (thanks to a Christian fascist judiciary he installed, including SCOTUS).

That’s what is at stake, and Biden did a good job laying it out last night.

He also did exceptionally well when heckled by GOPers on immigration. The clapbacks by Biden not only show he still has it, but he understands the issue deeply and innately. He might have swallowed words from time to time and coughed a few times during the speech, but it was overall a good one laying out the accomplishments from past 3 years and what he wants to do going forward.

Most importantly, he didn’t mention Trump’s name once. That had to chafe Trump more than anything else, because Trump is an attention whore who can’t stand being second fiddle to anyone or anything.

cnn tried very hard to find criticisms in its fact check

this is true, but…
this is true, in context…

and in two cases, focused on a one line sound bite/boast of an accomplishment and, surprise, said the ‘truth’ is way more complex and nuanced. duh. it’s a speech. it doesnt come with citations and you cant cover every facet.

then onto Britt’s response and their first fact check:
“this claim is false”

the second was this one:
“President Biden inherited the most secure border of all time. But minutes after taking office, he suspended all deportations.”

Facts First: This needs context. Hours after taking office, Biden did call for a 100-day pause on deportations, but not “all deportations.”

The moratorium excluded individuals suspected of terrorism or espionage, among other groups. But, more importantly, the suspension never actually took effect. A federal judge in Texas immediately blocked the action and it was never revived.

and that was it for her.

How bad is Britt and other people like her doing if she’s got two fucking sinks and a built in fridge (likely an expensive Sub Zero) in her kitchen, which is likely part of a McMansion?

Optics matter, and this lying Christian white nationalist wants everyone to ignore that she was involved in crafting the immigration security bill that had widespread bipartisan support until Trump called to tell them not to pass it because it would hurt Trump’s chances in November. So she sabotages her own legislation.

She’s a one and done congress critter. I know media outlets were breathlessly calling her a rising star in the party, but after that rebuttal speech, it’s clear that the GOP doesn’t have rising stars. They have heaping steaming piles of crap, and they think the wretched smell is something to spread all over the landscape to cover for their fascist kleptocratic intentions.

It never really was. Even by the ‘80’s we called it Newsbleat.

Back then, Newsweek offered a better range of views and wasn’t tied to RW propaganda. Its current depth of dishonesty was openly on display when, in the summer of 2020, it published an Eastman article screeching that Kamala was not eligible to run on the ticket because she wasn’t a natural born citizen. I am terrified that the current SCOTUS could indeed overturn the 1898 United States v. Wong Kim Ark decision and suddenly eliminate the established definition of citizenship.

OOPS!

Guest of far-right House Republican arrested for heckling Biden’s SOTU

But House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-California) responded to Biden’s speech with plenty of eye-rolling, and other MAGA Republicans in attendance did their share of heckling. Moreover, a Biden critic who attended at the invitation of far-right Rep. Brian Mast (R-Florida), Steve Nikoui, was arrested for being disruptive.

Nikoui is the father of a U.S. marine killed during the bombing of the Kabul Airport in Afghanistan in 2021, Kareem M. Nikoui.

After Biden said that “America is safer today than when I took office,” Nikoui shouted “Abbey Gate” and “United States Marines.”

According to Capitol Police, Nikoui had a chance to avoid arrest but wouldn’t quit yelling.

A Capitol Police spokesperson told Axios, “Tonight at approximately 10:15 p.m., a man disrupted the State of the Union address by yelling. Our officers warned him to stop, and when he did not, the man was removed from the House Galleries and was arrested.”

Nikoui, according to the spokesperson, was charged with a misdemeanor.

Mast commented on Nikoui’s arrest on X, formerly Twitter, posting, “The Sergeant at Arms is holding my State of the Union guest for yelling at @POTUS in protest because his son was killed in action at the Abbey Gate due to Biden’s incompetence. So much for the right to petition our government for the redress of grievances.”

But activist Fred Guttenberg, whose 14-year-old daughter Jaime Guttenberg was killed during the Parkland High School massacre in Florida on February 14, 2018, called Mast out in a tweet of his own.

Guttenberg posted, “Hey Brian, during final Trump STU, I yelled only once, ‘What about victims of gun violence like my daughter?’ I don’t recall your concern then for my arrest. I remember when you actually acted with decency towards me after the shooting. Sadly, you are pathetically lost now.”

He apparently got an insurance company to pay the bond, and he’s paying the cost for the bond being issued.

How does that work? Did he have defamation insurance?

Shouldn’t think the E. Jean bond would be that big a deal to him, he did very well out of the presidency. It’s the $450 million that bites.

The good news is that it keeps this story front and center, i.e., Diaper Don is an adjudicated rapist.

OMG. How was that real? (Not the “For Whom the Bell Tolls” part). I listen to a podcast called “News in Slow Spanish” to help keep up with my Spanish. The whole point of the podcast is that the presenters speak slowly and almost over enunciate. She sounds like she’s doing “News in Slow English”—which, given her target audience makes a ton of sense.

A bond is a promise from the bond company (usually an insurer) offering to cover the judgment if he loses his appeal and fails to pay. In exchange, the person must pay the company a fee and pledge collateral, including as much cash as possible.

The company gets a percentage of the fee up front, that depends on the size of the bond requested.

With Trump, anyone posting bond is going to find that Trump’s putting up the same properties he’s overleveraged as collateral, and they may get screwed too. It’s the Trump way. ETTD.

I have not seen an official report indicating who provided the bond.

I think their outrage is shared by anyone with a functioning neuron.

Uvalde families shocked and outraged over report that clears local PD officers of fault in the mass shooting response.

Jesse Prado, a retired Austin police detective, offered the report to the Uvalde city council during a meeting on Thursday. The report is contrary to many other reports about the shooting, including a scathing 2024 Department of Justice report which pointed to “cascading failures” by officers on the scene as well as the cowardice of waiting more than an hour to confront the shooter. A 2022 preliminary report from the Texas House said the officers’ “lackadaisical approach” may have cost the victims’ their lives.

Prado’s report claims none of the officers on the scene violated Uvalde Police Department policy and acted in good faith. The report found “many failures” in the law enforcement response, but did not identify a specific police officer who was responsible for those failures. However, he does cite Border Patrol tactical commander Paul Guerrero, who led the team that killed the gunman, for calling off a move that could have stopped the shooting a half hour earlier because he feared it would take too long too force open the locked classroom door.

It was a CYA whitewashing of a disastrous police response and failures up and down the chain of command.

Every time they do an active shooter drill on a campus, the local police force needs to be on scene so they can try to keep up.

The sad part of it is, Mitch McConnell knows full well that the president was guilty of a crime on Jan. 6. So for him to know how bad the president’s predecessor was on all of this, and then come to the conclusion that he would endorse him when we thought he was going to convict him — the word was, he was close to conviction, and now he’s endorsing — it’s really very, very sad.”

There’s some real anger on the far right this morning at Trump for taking credit for the COVID vaccine after Biden mentioned it in the SOTU. They love Trump, but they hate the vax more.

They’ve dug themselves into a hole with their need to pretend that fools are the real smart people, like Fox has been telling them for years.
