Indiana is putting its children to work. In Kentucky, the bill to allow schoolchildren to work full-time surprisingly lacked the votes to get out of committee.

Things that could have happened by now if we had a functioning government that wasn’t held hostage by a bunch of GOP chucklefucks:

1. Ukraine aid
2. Israel aid
3. Greatly improved border security
4. Roe codified into law
5. IVF codified into law
6. Federal mail-in voting bill.
7. Extension of the ACP program to assist with internet access for low income households.
8. A properly funded government and a properly armed military.
9. Allies who genuinely believe they can trust us.
10. Much stronger environmental protections.

The list goes on. The government doesn’t suck because no one wants to help, the government sucks because the GOP spends too much time fighting each other and sitting on their fucking asses.

Also, Trump having them by the balls.

You want change? VOTE.

The government doesn’t work because the GOP is the party of white supremacy and billionaires and isolationism. Even before Trump, since Gingrich, when a House was in GOP hands, it was obstruction all the time. And under Clinton and Biden, it’s been investigations all the time.

WOW JC did…A Music Video!

Jesus Goes To Court In Anti-Abortion Pill Music Video

Via press release from Christian Newswire:

The Moral Outcry National Petition Movement to make abortion illegal in all states has collaborated with Luminate Pictures’ new music video “Plead Their Case,” on YouTube and other music apps. The video illustrates a woman considering whether or not to take the chemical abortion drug protocol (mifepristone/misoprostol), while a U.S. Supreme Court justice labors over his decision on the abortion drug.

The US Supreme Court is considering The Justice Foundation’s brief representing 2,743 Women Injured by Abortion regarding the abortion pill Oral Argument on March 26. The brief references thousands of women’s experiences of severe emotional trauma, physical pain, and/or injuries. Since Roe v. Wade was overturned in 2022, the chemical abortion drug accounts for over half of USA abortions.

This video to help end abortion was filmed in the Kansas State Capitol’s Old Supreme Courtroom (Topeka) where Brown v. Board of Education - the case that ended racially-segregated education - originated. The lyrics reflect God’s message to the USA: “How long will you judge unjustly, ruling in favor of the wicked?” (Psalm 82).

Read the full press release. As you’ll see in the clip, a young woman is accosted by anti-abortion activists outside a pharmacy as Jesus appears in the gallery of a courtroom where a panel of judges are hearing arguments against the abortion pill. Then, of course, the woman changes her mind. It’s quite a production.

Well said:

If Aaron Rodgers, citizen, wants to swim in the fever swamps, we’d merely encourage him to wear a floatie. If Aaron Rodgers, NFL quarterback, feels compelled to share his insights, that’s more problematic because of his platform; still, with minimal effort he can be ignored.

But Aaron Rodgers, candidate for Vice President? Even if his ticket has no chance of winning, anyone considering a third-party vote has a right to know what they’re endorsing. The fact that Rodgers allegedly made these disclosures in private simply makes them more telling…

Rodgers is in danger of descending the Curt Schilling rabbit hole to oblivion. Like the Big Schill, Rodgers owns a healthy persecution complex that causes him to double down or deflect when an apology, or better yet, total silence, is what’s appropriate.

Republicans campaign on the government not working, then get elected and prove it. They’ve convinced generations of Americans that a divided government is the ideal because a paralyzed government affords citizens “freedom” and when legislation does pass it is “bipartisan.” Also, a “one-party government” is something to fear…unless that party is the GQP, then you’re supposed to be thrilled because they’re “getting things done.”

God, I hate my job. Not the actual work, but the bullshit around it, like “go to office three days a week.”

I learned today that simply being on call 24x7 some days of the week does not give me an excuse to not go into the office. This is, IMHO, completely and utterly fucked up. My hours are 8 am to 5 pm. But when I am on call, I am expected to join calls when I am paged any time from (for example, right now) from 5 am Wednesday to 5 am Friday.

I started work at 7:30 am yesterday because I got a page. We didn’t finish up until 3:30 pm, an entire day’s work of work. I told this manager (he’s a new manager for me) that if I had hopped into my car, I would have been in the middle of traffic when the pages got through, and I am expected to join the calls within 15 minutes (actually, as soon as possible). Oh, and then I got paged again at 7:30 pm, and worked an additional few hours. I could have been paged again overnight, or any time today, or any time until 5 am tomorrow morning.

But I am expected to go into the office, no fucking exceptions.

And yeah, I let Mr. New Manager have it. I told him that I was still angry about being stiffed out of a raise and bonus last year because I didn’t go into the office—my mother was on hospice. I told him I did not want ANY GARBAGE because I happened to be in my car when I got a page because now the expectation is that I need to go into the office. i told him I would be there three days a week, with bells on.

What gets me is that he and the other manager managers have someone to cover for them overnight. However, me and the other 15 people with my job are expected to be available 24x7 for whatever days of the week we’re on call.* This week, I was on call three days. And, as I told him, this job has changed. When I first took the job, there was only one person on call overnight, then there were two, and now we have three because there are so many more expectations around communications. (Oh, the things i could say about that!) But he has someone to replace him overnight. I don’t.

I’m thinking that if my employer expects me to be available 24x7, then i should be allowed to work from home. If they’re not going to allow that, and I have to drive into work on an an on-call day, I will turn my phone off while I am driving, even if I’m on call. I am not going to stress the fuck out for an employer that expects me to basically give up blocks of time for its benefit, but won’t even have the sheer decency to let us work from home. Sounds like a good fucking tradeoff to me.

/pissed.
*oh and if they can locate us when we’re not on call but one of our applications has died in a spectacular fashion, they’ll call or page us. It happened to one of my Not On Call coworkers last night. I’m going to put my phone on silent when I’m not working.

I did a demo event on 2 March (World Telemark Day) at Eldora, west of Boulder, CO. They’re on track to get four feet of snow in two days when the storm is done.

Had insomnia last night, so stayed up watching James Wan’s “Malignant” and oh brother is that movie a serious mind-fuck.

Didn’t help my insomnia much.

The road is under the direct authority of the state, i.e., police are empowered to restrict any attempt to flee the state along this road. This is to prevent Texan women from using this road to flee authorities in search of abortion.

What if they just want to get across the border to watch Pornhub?

Count Binface, who describes himself as an intergalactic space warrior, is standing in the 2024 London mayoral elections as it is time to “take the trash out”.

He told the BBC he was “gunning for a champions league spot” this year after finishing ninth in the 2021 election.

Binface has said he is the “only fresh thing on the menu given all other politicians are rubbish”.

The mayoral elections will take place on 2 May.

Asked about his policies he said he was unable to share his full manifesto yet as “another candidate might nick my stuff” but would “bring some much needed sanity to local governments”.

He also said that previous manifesto pledges would remain in place.

Those include a price cap on croissants, the renaming of London Bridge to Phoebe Waller-Bridge and bringing back Ceefax.

If elected he would also give royal palaces to the homeless and tie ministers’ pay to that of nurses for the next 100 years.

Binface told the BBC he was running in the election “for a laugh”.

“Despite all the flaws of the British democratic system, isn’t it remarkable that there is still this wonderful quirk that if you want to dress up like an idiot and stand next to the prime minister of the day, then you can,” he explained.

So after my VA doctor’s appointment this afternoon I took a hike along the Chippewa River. At one point I could see the power house of the dam holding back Lake Wissota. This will always be humorous to me because of the movie Titanic. See, the character “Jack” is supposed to be from Chippewa Falls and have fished on Lake Wissota. However the Titanic, of course, sank in 1912. The dam was constructed in 1917.

Oops! 😈

“So I gave my lecture yesterday. Despite lack of preparation, I spoke quite well and without hesitation, which I ascribe to the cocaine I had taken beforehand. I told about my discoveries in brain anatomy, all very difficult things that the audience certainly didn’t understand, but all that matters is that they get the impression that I understand it.”

Crypto has about an every 3-4 year cycle of pump and then crash. It is currently ramping up into it’s pumping stage for the next 12-18 months for all crypto coins. They all move at different times so it’s a little hard to predict when any one coin might sky rocket.

If your company has a policy that you will be on the phone in traffic, they are going to buy the bulk of the lawsuit when you squash a Good Humor truck.

Company I worked for had specific rules about phone usage when driving a car. Don’t use the phone, even in hands-free mode. If you’re driving then concentrate on the driving.

Did a bunch of van commuting between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh while working on a project. We did conference calls sometimes while on the road. The person not attending, usually me, was the driver when we expected those to occur since we usually left Philly for Pittsburgh around 1pm on Friday and there usually was an afternoon meeting or two.

Trying and failing to imagine how a real economy based on crypto-currency with its wild fluctuations in value could possibly work in the real world.

Your car payment would be $20 one month, then $1800 the next.

Feet of snow on the other side of the Continental Divide. This side? Meh. Few inches here and there, calm winds.

I despise upslope winter storm events. As probably does most of the Front Range corridor, which will get two feet in a lot of places.

Only about a foot at my place in the southeast part of the metro, but yeah, the foothills are getting socked. A friend in Evergreen had 32” as of midmorning.

16% is not bad for 6 months in the stock market, I’ve been stuck between 7-8% YTD since beginning of March.

It can’t work. That doesn’t mean that there isn’t a place for crypto. I find gold bugs(people hoarding/’investing’ in gold)ridiculous. BTC can be viewed as digital gold (there are obvious differences, but from the point of a store of value there is some merritt to this view… if enough people play along and if governments don’t decide to squash it).

Non bitcoin crypto can be created out of thin air and doesn’t have built in scarcity. Some non bitcoin crypto has interesting use cases (contract settlement without a central broker and such) but those uses just aren’t catching on.

Crypto is also young enough that it hasn’t been through a prolonged economic downturn. When the next recession happens, my view is that most (maybe all) crypto will go away.

Which is why I’m hoping it doesn’t happen before the election. There was probably nothing McCain could have done to win in 2008 once Wall Street melted down in September/October 2008.
