As a prosecutor, my strategy in the courtroom would be to make Donald Trump so angry that he dies

I watched a “federal protected witness” suffer a heart attack under cross examination by the attorney I worked for. The witness subsequently died, and our client walked.

I graduated from university 40 years ago and I remember being disappointed that our commencement speaker was the head of the University of Texas system board of regents. I don’t remember the guy. I do remember that he used his bully pulpit to get us to vote for a/some constitutional amendment(s) on the 1984 ballot. No, I don’t know what they were, and it wasn’t until I went to law school that I understood far more clearly why the Texas constitution is so fucked up.

But I definitely remember what a buzz kill this guy was.

Yeah, if he didn’t coat himself in yellow-orange spackle every day, maybe he’d get better courtroom drawings. Also, I might note, if he hired a aesthetician, they could likely do a MUCH better job in getting the color on and making it look decent. But no, he doesn’t want anyone to know what everyone knows, which is that he’s coated in foundation and he does it himself.

I expect they have him wearing diapers but what happens in court if someone really needs to exit for the bathroom? DO their lawyers have a sidebar with the judge declaring a short recess?

That’s a good question. I have no idea how a court would deal with such a situation. I’d imagine asking the judge for a short recess should work.

But things like that can come up on you fast, after all. By the time Trump’s attorneys make it to the bench to ask for a recess, it could already be far too late.

With that, I’m calling it a day. Have a good one, Lizards and stay healthy.

This has to happen frequently in regular longer trials. So they all have to have procedures in place to handle the situation, i.e. have to take bathroom breaks.

So I did a shallow dive and yes, if the lawyer or defendent needs a bathroom break, they can request it from the judge. A juror can raise their had and ask for a break. IN both cases, the court proceedings are stopped.

And a judge will be aware that this can be used as a stalling techniqie and can say no if they suspect that is so,

I do not want a medical emergency to let the Lord of the Trumpets off the hook. Much too easy.
I want him to sit there, day after day, in the narcissist’s hell of a situation he can’t control, squirming with every humiliation that worms under his thin orange skin.

And if that means his lawyers have to put up with the unholy stench as well as their almost inevitable career consequences, oh well…

Today I liked her short essay: The Manhattan courtroom is bursting Trump’s psychological bubble. Am quoting it here, privately, and can recommend TFA. [I also voted for Renato Mariotti for IL State Attorney General. He didn’t win. Sigh.]

Amusing how Steve Jobs’ design advice was interpreted across Silicon Valley, including at Apple, as “we can make the customers want whatever crap we give them.” No! The point is that customers aren’t designers! That’s your job, to figure out what you can do that they’ll want.

Every argument Trump makes for complete presidential immunity is an argument for Biden to do whatever he wants to Trump. It’s fun to think of the possibilities here.

Here’s the code that takes a Bluesky URL, reads the page at that address, finds the “oembed” link inside that page’s DOM, and then uses that link to get the blockquote code from Bluesky that will then be transformed into an embedded post when the comment loads.

This uses PHP’s DOMDocument and DOMXPath classes to parse the Bluesky HTML and find the oembed link.

<?php
function blueskyEmbeds($text) {
	return preg_replace_callback(
		$GLOBALS['blueskyURLRegex'],
		function($matches) {
			if ($source = @file_get_contents($matches[0])) {
				$dom = new DOMDocument();
				$dom->loadHTML('<?xml encoding="utf-8" ?>' . $source, LIBXML_NOWARNING | LIBXML_NOERROR);
				$xpath = new DOMXpath($dom);
				$url = $xpath->evaluate("string(//link[@type='application/json+oembed']/@href)");
				if ($url && $json = @file_get_contents($url)) {
					$oembed = json_decode($json, true);
					$html = trim(str_replace(['', ''], ['', "\n\n"], $oembed['html']));
					$html = preg_replace('~(?:<script[^>]*></script>)~is', '', $html);
					return $html;
				}
			}
			return $matches[0];
		},
		$text
	);
}

It’s a great quote that succinctly says something important but, Henry Ford not only never said that and apparently Jobs never said that either.

Unusual case of adding 2 different authorities to make a quote sound better.

But he said things not too far away:

We have a lot of customers, and we have a lot of research into our installed base. We also watch industry trends pretty carefully. But in the end, for something this complicated, it’s really hard to design products by focus groups. A lot of times, people don’t know what they want until you show it to them.

I think that person has their account set to only show posts to logged in users.

When you click the Bluesky 3-dot menu, if the menu DOESN’T have an embed option it can’t be embedded.

re: #59 Hecuba’s daughter

This has to happen frequently in regular longer trials. So they all have to have procedures in place to handle the situation, i.e. have to take bathroom breaks.

as i recall, when I did jury duty and got far enough into the process to where we met pretrial with the judge in the courtroom, they did mention a procedure by which a jury member could signal to the court that they were in urgent need of a brief recess. and i think it was actually less labored than trying to get the bailiff’s attention to pass a note.

Can I send you a couple of inches of snow from the Denver area? Would have to be quick, it’s melting and drying up already.

Someone has snuck a photo of his one side of very long hair hanging wet. Just do it you coward.

“DO their lawyers have a sidebar with the judge declaring a short recess?”

No, in this case the judge has to declare a shart recess.
