As long as they strictly adhere to that laws (background checks, cooking off period, etc) the only objection I have is simple one:

I wouldn't want my kids shopping for bicycles and video games have the opportunity to explore the gun cases unattended.

Guns are a serious adult business

If a farmer or rancher wants to teach his son or daughter to shoot, that's fine. That said, the purchase of firearms and ammunition ought to be restricted to adult area and minors ought to restricted unless accompanied by an adult.

It'd be nice if they started selling firearms in CA again. IIRC, they stopped because of multiple instances of Walmart not following legal requirements to the letter during the purchasing process, and the CA AG came down on them. WM decided to stop firearm sales altogether, perhaps as part of a deal with the AG office?

Anyhow, many still sell ammo. If they ever sold handguns in CA, it must have been a long time ago.

They sell guns and ammo at all the local ones as well as following all required federal laws. I get much of my ammo at Walmart as they're really cheaper. I buy firearms from my local Gander Mountain which, though somewhat higher in price, has layaway :D

Wal-Mart stopped selling handguns after Columbine. The bad PR made it not worth it.

I approve this decision by Wal-Mart, BTW. There is nothing wrong with them selling firearms, as long as they do so responsibly. And they do.

They never stopped long guns here, but they tend to carry low-end stuff (pink plastic .22 for the young princesses).
