Should be fired immediately, at the very least. What an insane douchebag. Taliban-style.

I guess it's only a matter of time before someone in the GOP starts screaming "Lynch them all!" This bozo should be brought up on terroristic threat charges. I'm waiting for the Republican outrage. Yeah.

Am I naive in thinking that Jay Townsend was being figurative, because if he wasn't it certainly seems like he was inciting people to commit violence against others.

Isn't throwing acid at women how members of the Taliban punish females who behave in what they see as an impious manner, I am not trying to godwin, but sometimes they make it really, really hard....

I am hoping this was simply a really poorly-selected figure of speech, yes.

What a fucking ass wipe even if he was speaking figuratively. These asses haven't learned a damn thing from the Giffords tragedy have they?

Even if it's being figurative, it's fucking terrible.

Not just the Taliban, and not just for impiety. Acid attacks have become a cultural way of lashing out at women: for scorning a proposal, for "stealing" a man from another woman, et cetera. Similar attacks with the same MO occur in South America and India, where battery acid is readily available from auto shops.

Which makes the use of the image, even figurative, really fucked up. Acid throwing isn't a common image, and to pick it out to use specifically when referring to women is just horrible. I have a hard time imagining someone coming up with that image off the cuff.

Yep. It's a problem in Cambodia as well, and apparently has been for quite some time, a fact I was completely ignorant of until recently. It's horrible because it's so...intentional.
