Wow, that's bad. I agree, there's way too much tolerance for anti-Jewish extremism at Mondoweiss.

The reason why people read the site, though, is because it's not ALL that kind of stuff. It's not really accurate to say it's a left-wing version of Pamela Geller -- there are actually well-written articles there that are not hateful.

But the problem is not just radical commenters, although there are plenty of them -- more than a few of their writers have crossed the line into (IMHO) antisemitism, and this is an example.

Well, at least one frequent commenter at this site thinks that this is a funny joke.

Interesting how the latest trend seems to be hiding behind, "it was a joke." Romney's birther comment was allegedly a joke. Now we find Antony Loewenstein comment about 6 million Jews dying is another alleged joke. So I guess Mr. Loewenstein is now in the comedy business making jokes about 6 million Jews dying.

That's not a joke; that's hate speech.

I get so frustrated with people who say "I am anti Zionist not Anti Jewish/Israel/Semitic"
Excuse me, WHAT?

They say that because they don't hate ALL JEWS, there are some Jews they like, like MJay Rosenberg and Mondoweiss. Those are the "good Jews" why can't the rest of those stinking Zionist occupiers, baby penis-cutters and magic sky-fairy worshippers be like those "good Jews"?

Respectfully I think Mondoweiss is beyond the Pale. And antisemitism isn't acceptable to true Socialists. For some reason, there are people in the US and Britain who are antisemitic and claim to be on the Left but antisemitism is against all our principles. It shouldn't be tolerated ANYWHERE on the political spectrum.

PS Dear Paul Ryan, "Above the Pale," as in Akin; give me a break. LOL.

re: #6 Learned Mother of Zion

You can be against Religious (or ethnic) nationalism, without being antisemitic or being Anti-Israeli. I just think that idea of a nation belonging to single ethnic or group is wrong and against the values of a Western-style Liberal democracy. I think that multiculturalism or even more basic that it belongs too it's Arab citizens just as much as it's Jewish ones is a fundamental value that a democracy must have.

Loewenstein was being heckled and he heckled back and it was a bad heckle - Sort of what happened to Michael Richards (Kramer from Seinfeld).

I find it hard to believe that Loewenstein, who is Jewish is calling for genocide of his own people.

Except that Zionism doesn't mean that "Israel belongs to the Jews... & no one else is allowed to live there, or, if they do, they will automatically be 2nd class citizens." Israel accepts & welcomes everyone who isn't trying to flat-out destroy her (& doesn't throw out those who are even when she could). Hardly undemocratic in any way.

We've tried living among those nations that value Western-style democracy, and it didn't turn out so well. We think we can do better, once the attempts to deprive us of life, liberty, and fraternity end.

re: #9 Destro

You have an interesting method of contradicting Jews who are making a point, by bringing up other Jews as counter-examples. As if Jews accept Michael Richards' rant, just because he's Jewish.

Michael Richards is---porcine. I think that would represent a majority opinion.

13 Destro  Mon, Aug 27, 2012 10:24:22am

Michael Richards was taunted and he responded back in an extreme manner - it is what happens when you are taunted. Loewenstein was being heckled and he heckled back and it was a bad heckle - Sort of what happened to Michael Richards (Kramer from Seinfeld).

I find it hard to believe that Loewenstein, who is Jewish is calling for genocide of his own people.

When are you making Aliyah away from this country and it's Western-style democracy you seem to think in your paranoid delusion will kill you?

Say it in English. It still won't be funny, but at least you can work on your grammar.

I find it funny you feel American / Western Democracy failed the Jewish people and they need to try something different or that the taunts of two people on the audio link proves anything about anyone.

re: #17 Destro

Why? You feel that capitalism has failed, and something different needs to be tried.

I find it funny you feel American / Western Democracy failed the Jewish people

I think a simple reading of history would show this--a position for which you vehemently argued the other day.

Don't argue with me. I came in at the end of this thread. Argue with everyone who posted before me.

Fair enough, you don't like western style democracies because they failed to protect Jews? even though most persecutions of Jews happened when there was no democracy so I don't get the logic there. The argument on your part should be to strengthen secular inclusive democracy and be against anything that would weaken that.

I never said that.

That's what I said. That's what I've always been saying.
