It’s times like these I wish there was a millionth level of Hell for John McCain to spend eternity in for unleashing this mega-moron upon the country.

Really appropriate language, “baptism” ha, considering waterboarding originated in the Spanish Inquisition

It must have been quite the NRA show. First LaPierre starts foaming at the mouth before throwing himself on the floor to gnaw on the lectern, then Crazy Sarah does some riff about good Mama Grizzlies, good guns, BAD IDs (only needed when black people want to vote), and I just don’t care any more.

No telling what she would have done if she remained governor of Alaska. //!
Quote from Wiki;
“Palin announced she was resigning her office due to the costs and distractions of battling ethics investigations describing the “insane” amount of time and money that both she and the state of Alaska had expended responding to “opposition research”, 150 FOIA requests and 15 “frivolous” legal ethics complaints filed by “political operatives” against her. She said the state had spent $2 million while she and her husband, Todd, would be spending “more than half a million dollars in legal bills in order to set the record straight.” While media sources backed Palin’s statement that she had incurred large, personal financial debts defending against the ethics charges, the Anchorage Daily News reported that much of the $1.9 million cost cited by Palin consisted of the normal state employee salaries. However, the Governor’s spokesperson said that in order to respond to the ethics complaints, staffers from multiple state agencies were diverted from their normal duties and state attorneys were pulled off their case loads resulting in “lost value to the state”, and “hundreds of thousands of dollars” spent on outside legal counsel and equipment. In addition to responding to the ethics complaints, the state attorneys had to review the public record requests including the 238 filed during Palin’s administration and 189 after she was named John McCain’s running mate.

Palin cited the decision to not seek re-election and resign from office would avoid her being a lame duck politician who is ineffective and “milk” the taxpayers by drawing a paycheck and funding useless travels. She said, “I’m not putting Alaska through that…” and “…it may be tempting and more comfortable to just keep your head down, plod along, and appease those who demand: ‘Sit down and shut up,’ but that’s the worthless, easy path; that’s a quitter’s way out”.

Palin declared that although she loved her job and it hurt to leave it, her decision was in the best interest of Alaska. She said she expected to continue her involvement in public affairs as a private citizen and the lack of an official title would not bother, nor hamper her effectiveness.
A crowd estimated at 5,000 people gathered in Fairbanks’ Pioneer Park to watch Palin turn over her office to Sean Parnell.

The press conference announcing the resignation was at the Palins’ lakefront home in Wasilla.
Palin officially stepped down as Alaska’s governor on July 26, 2009. She delivered a fiery farewell address in which she admonished the media to leave the new governor’s children alone.” END quote
Then she was walked onto the National Stage by John McCain to be considered as a viable vice presidential running mate. We have not recovered since because she continues to grift and idiots pay her. Sarah Palin is a brown bag grifter whose very paycheck comes from ignorance and duplicity. Best interests of Alaska. Please. Dolt. McCain has never apologized for this bag of offal offered up as a leader. Twit Inc. Thanks, Johnny!

Here, have an upding.

I will never, ever forgive John McCain and the GOP for foisting this dipshit on the rest of us.

Listening to her is its own form of torture. I think I could take the waterboarding as it would drown her out.

As an atheist I almost feel ‘blessed’ she’s not in charge. I feel relief, or joy, or some combination thereof.

We ALL dodged a bullet when McCain lost in 2008. The idea of this nitwit being a heartbeat away from nukes is frightening.

Holy fucking water-board me before I listen to this ignoramus.

10 Ryan King  Apr 27, 2014 3:13:45pm

One of the most shameful things I’ve ever done was vote for McCain. I was actually close to voting for Obama but my hand went Red right at the moment of truth. The wheels were coming with Palin but I had no idea she was this horrible.

Nothing like a classic Palin Word Salad to remind me of that shame.

Oh, Sarah, what did we ever do without you?

Watched Dan Quayle reruns.

Quayle wasn’t the smartest guy in the room, but unlike Palin, he also wasn’t the meanest, most hate-filled one either.

It took Sarah Palin to pull all of that together.

But she wouldn’t have gotten control of them as it turns out. John McCain has kept on living and would have even had he been president. Unlike Dick Cheney, McCain’s heart is quite strong even now.

One could argue that’s because he hasn’t been in the high-stress position of being president and then running for office for a second term.

But, you know.

Are *you* comfortable with the thought of sister Sarah being one heartbeat away from the presidency? I’m not.

I don’t give a damn. Just putting her in a position where she could have been POTUS is terrifying enough. I will never forgive John McCain or the GOP for that.

She embodies everything wrong with the modern Republican party. She’s ignorant, out of touch, hateful, and totally incurious. She lives in in her own alternate reality where slurping a Big Gulp is a profound political statement, Cliven Bundy is a poor, oppressed farmer, and Obama’s going to round up all the guns before sending everyone to Gitmo and declaring himself dictator for life.

RBS’s Political Prediction: Caribou Barbie will tease at running for President again, and once again, after getting all the publicity and cash she can cage from the RWNJs, will once again not run.

One could also argue, quite convincingly I believe, that if McCain had won twice, Palin would be the guaranteed nominee in 2016.

Let that sink in for a while.

She might even invite the Duck Dynasty yahoos and Cliven Bundy on a bus tour.

Quayle is Winston Churchill compared to this buffoon.

Incidentally, Quayle is still with us. He will be 69 in 2016. Maybe he should run for the GOP nomination. He can’t win obviously but he could redeem his reputation, since he would look like a genius and a statesman in comparison to the other likely offerings.

But then I googled and found the video…

The Robersons wouldn’t accept, since such a tour would be a money-loser. Phil Robertson is also far smarter than Sarah Palin (not talking about his views, just his IQ) and I’m not at all sure he could stand being on a bus with her for a prolonged period of time.

“Well, if I were in charge, they would know that waterboarding is how we’d baptize terrorists.”

Sarah Palin, calling for the forced conversion of (Muslim, I presume) terrorists so she can spend eternity with them.

That is why you baptize someone who is on the verge of death, right? To grant them absolution for their sins so they can go on to paradise?

23 The Ghost of a Flea  Apr 27, 2014 9:50:23pm

Let’s not get so caught up in the idea of Sarah Palin a heartbeat from the Presidency that we neglect to consider all the functions of the Vice Presidency that she could royally fuck up.

Of course he is.

He does and always will have a grievance against the Democratic Party and will always vote Republican, no matter the size of the moral conundrum that this presents.

You have no idea how McCain’s body would have handled the stresses of the presidency. i’m glad he’s stayed healthy but there’s literally no way you can say with 100% certainty that he wouldn’t have experienced health problems as president and remember VP is still a very important position. McCain made a terrible decision and he should do the right thing and own up to it especially now that Sarah is making light of waterboarding, an issue that he has an unique understanding of that she never will.

28 Bulworth  Apr 28, 2014 6:56:30am

Interestling, I have seen some significant push back against this latest Palin-speak by religious conservatives. Not liking the conflating of waterboarding torture with Christian baptism, at all.

29 Jay in Oregon  Apr 28, 2014 8:42:37am

re: #28 Bulworth

I’d be curious how many of those religious conservatives are okey-dokey with waterboarding. It’d be one thing to say “waterboarding is the exact opposite of what it means to be Christian, and I am appalled that Sarah Palin would attempt to compare the torture of a human being to accepting Jesus as your lord and savior” and another to say “C’mon, Sarah, pick up at a dictionary.”

If the pushback gets too strong, she’ll just apologize for using the wrong word and all will return to normal.

I agree, although realistically Sarah Palin is more of a symptom than anything else.

The GOP base gets stupider and more malicious every day under the influence of its self-inflicted propaganda. The prominence of hateful demagogues like Sarah Palin is only natural in such an environment.
