Dear GOP: A Word from the Right About Trump
My RWNJ friend forwards emails of interest from the energetic correspondents of the Right. One of today’s included a link to this editorial at Intellectual Froglegs.
Dear GOP… IFL 08/16.15
It’s easy to come up with a list of the GOP’s conservative promises…. (repeal Obamacare, stop executive amnesty, etc.)…the hard part is finding a promise they haven’t broken…and not just recently. The GOP has not only passively broken their promises—but they’re ACTIVELY helping the other team…
…The DC GOP hasn’t kept a campaign promise in over a decade…. and they blame Donald Trump for their woes— How Obama-esque! Claiming Trump is damaging the GOP.
How could Trump (or ANYONE for that matter) be worse than the GOP doing the POLAR opposite of their promises?
Even if Trump only does ONE conservative thing… that will be 100% more than the country club republicans have done in recent memory…
That my friend, ex-Navy buddy actually, forwarded this to me suggests that these sentiments are catching on. Though he’s moved far to the right since I first knew him my friend knows that I’m a liberal so most of the things he forwards are indicative of the hot topics and general temperature way over on the right. He is not, AFAIK, a partisan of Trump. He’s sent stuff both for and against the most-mentioned candidates save for Ron Paul.
The GOP has been pulling the old Bait-and-Switch on its voters, most notably the Evangelicals, for decades. The murmurs of voter discontent in the past were all subsumed in the spirit of beating the godless Liberals. The difference this time is that some of the most energetic cadres in the GOP are also the most disaffected. Another difference is that this time the disaffected have a candidate who happens to be handily leading. That alone will gain Trump numbers of fair weather followers at a crucial point in the campaign.
