It is so on. Go for it Mr. Khan—throw down and represent.

The reaction of Trump and many of his supporters is proof that for a portion of American citizens there is nothing a Muslim can do to gain the most basic respect and acceptance they extend to other Americans—not even giving one’s life to save fellow citizens in the service of country. It also puts the moral bankruptcy & cowardice of the GOP leadership on glaring display. I’m looking at you Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell, Chris Christie, etc.—all of you who are endorsing this lying sociopath.

How many other American mothers & fathers were spared Mr. & Mrs. Khan’s pain & loss through the selfless bravery of their son Humayun? How many American wives, children, brothers and sisters were spared loss? How many American soldiers in his unit, instead of being maimed or killed that day, went on to live their lives—to marry, have children of their own and grow old? In a few generations how many people will exist who wouldn’t have otherwise had it not been for Capt. Khan’s sacrifice?

Islam teaches us that saving a life is like saving all of humanity, and this is why (IIRC Judaism also teaches the same). Countless other lives are positively affected by that single action, just as, conversely, many more lives than just those of the victims are harmed by the killing of innocents in a terrorist attack.

People talk about “jihad” and Muslims have tried over & over to explain that jihad doesn’t mean terrorism, to no avail. Capt. Khan’s actions were a form of jihad—one of the very best forms—as are the efforts of his parents to defend his legacy, and in so doing also defend the rights & legitimacy of the American Muslim community.

That is not a small thing. Jazak Allahu khayran.

The irony ad importance of this moment cannot be overstated. Trump must lose, and lose big.
