An eight-year-old girl (and her entire team) were disqualified from a soccer tournament in Springfield, Nebraska, because “she looks like a boy.” Her team was disqualified from the final match. (Apparently, the organisers had no problem until the Omaha team reached the finals.) The objection was over the girl’s short hair. The family also claims they tried to show her physician’s letter stating she is indeed a girl, but the organisers refused to look at it.
Soccer star Mia Hamm invited her to attend her soccer academy after the disqualification:

No amount of appeal to the organisers was sufficient, including her parents showing the organisers her health insurance card and physician’s letter.
The Springfield Soccer Club refused comment, directing questions to their attorney (a non-lawyer opinion here means they think they’re going to get sued).
The organisers say that the family can appeal the decision to the Nebraska State Soccer Association. That of course won’t let her play in a tournament that is now past.
The girl is from Omaha. She is so proficient at soccer that though she is eight years old, she plays on a team comprised of eleven-year-olds.
The girl notes “there are other soccer tournaments” in an upbeat statement.
Fear fear fear. This is what conservatism sells, that a boy might sneak onto a girls’ soccer team, and against all evidence still disqualifies her. See also wingnut bathroom laws that destroy state economies (North Carolina) with no evidence of crime.
