I found it… it’s is used in Britain and Ireland, and it’s borrowed from the Dutch “kippe” and started out as meaning “alehouse” and has reverted to “common lodging-house for tramps and the homeless.” which I suspected, since the character is complaining about working at this “kip of a bar.”

I was just wondering if you had some clarification.
