OK, back from Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.

Overall, not bad. It’s 100% pure escapism of course. A popcorn flick (which is exactly what I had- popcorn and a beer) with some callbacks to films like Destroy All Monsters and other films from the Big G’s Showa series that Godzilla fans would recognize immediately. I’d give it a 3 out of 5. A good matinee film to catch at your local cinema, provided your local theatre does matinee showings. The human story is…OK, I guess. Of course, the actors are there to delivery expository dialogue, which they do well. The real fun is in all the kaiju action - cities leveled, iconic monuments laid waste, popular tourist destinations no doubt left uninhabitable for at least a century to come.

All in all, it’s what you’d expect from a Big Dumb Movie.

Which is what I liked about those movies and Pacific Rim.
